Suncity...AHI, Mumbai is too good. It looks like a very upscale Heart Institute. Just look at the cath lab, OR & 2-D echo lab. Its like having bypass in a 5-star restaurants without the masseurs. I guess the beautiful nurses will substitute that.

But you wil have to spend plenty of money too

these are BEAUtiful hospitals! I LOVE the Sathya Sai hospital...who says hospitals all have to have a standard look to them? The Asian Heart Institute definitely looks like any modern hospital in the West! Very professional.

Philippine Heart Centre - Quezon City

The Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City was established through Presidential Decree No. 673 issued by then-president Ferdinand E. Marcos in 1975. Its original name was the Philippine Heart Center for Asia and was changed to its current form in 1975. It was inaugurated on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1975 and graced by renowned cardiovascular experts such as Dr. Christiaan Barnard, Dr. Denton Cooley, Dr. Donald Effler, and Dr. Charles Bailey.

The first Director of the PHC was Dr. Avenilo P. Aventura (1974-1986), a cardiovascular surgeon who performed many pioneering operations in the Philippines including the first successful renal transplantation in 1970, the first CABG in 1972, and developed and implanted the first ASEAN bioprosthesis, the PHCA porcine valve. The first patient to be admitted to the PHC was Ms. Imelda Francisco on April 14, 1975.

Philippine General Hospital - Manila

The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) is a tertiary state-owned hospital administered and operated by the University of the Philippines, Manila, the University of the Philippines System's Health Sciences Center. It is the largest government hospital administered by the university, and is designated as the National University Hospital. It is located at Ermita, Manila in the Philippines. It is the biggest hospital in the country with a 1,500-bed capacity. It is a mixed-use hospital, with 1,000 beds for indigent patients and 500 beds for private patients, and offers some of the lowest rates for patients and is generally known as the hospital for indigent patients.

PGH celebrated its centennial in 2007, one hundred years since the US government passed a law establishing it. The hospital has seen the worst of tropical epidemics during its early existence and the worst of the war in the 1940's. It is one of the very few Philippine hospitals that remained open all throughout the war.

PETALING JAYA: Assunta Hospital was the proud recipient of a prestigious award conferred by the Hospital Management Asia (HMA) at the Ninth HMA Awards Night held in Seoul recently.

It was among seven international hospitals shortlisted for participating in the HMA award category for Marketing, PR, or Promotional Project. The hospital won for using social marketing tools to inspire women to use available resources for breast and cervical health.

The award finalists were grouped into seven categories, namely: Marketing, PR, or Promotional; Customer Service, Human Resource Development, Community Service, Internal Customer Service, Patient Safety/Quality Medical Care, and Departmental Service Improvement.

Assunta's entry was shortlisted out of 281 projects submitted by 58 hospitals from 10 Asia-Pacific countries.

Awards were given to hospitals in the region that had implemented or enhanced outstanding and innovative projects, programmes, and best practices last year. The annual awards ceremony recognises and honours hospitals in Asia that carry out best practices in hospital management.

The Asian Hospital Management Awards (AHMA) is the recognised hospital management awards programme for the Asia-Pacific.

Passionately You: Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness is a community project by Assunta Hospital and three volunteer partners -- Asia Assistance, Jaya One and PJ Live Arts.

The project was effective in reaching out to the target group, resulting in an increased use of the women's health services and promotion of the hospital. The project was first launched in 2008 as Passionately PINK to advocate education on breast cancer and raise funds to treat underprivileged cancer patients.

Subsequently, Passionately PINK progressed to Passionately YOU last year, launching a new battle against cervical and breast cancer.

This project, while centred on women's health, was also organised to celebrate all cancer victims and survivors' fighting spirit.

Staff volunteers participated in campaign activities educating women (and their husbands) on breast and cervical cancer, the availability of screening tests and benefits of early detection.

Members of the public also received free health screenings. Women underwent breast examinations and were taught to conduct self breast examinations.

Discounted HPV vaccinations and subsidised mammograms and pap smears were also done.

Choy Wah Wei, the hospital's chief executive officer, said the success of the project was due to dedicated team effort and the commitment of hospital staff and its volunteer partners.

"This award is a recognition that we will cherish."

KPJ to build specialist centre in Iskandar

JOHOR BARU: A new specialist hospital on a 500,000 sq ft of land will be built in Bandar Dato' Onn in the Iskandar Malaysia development region in Johor Baru.

Specialist hospital operator KPJ Healthcare Bhd will collaborate with Johor Land Bhd to build the modern hospital.

The project will be undertaken in two phases, KPJ chairman Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim said yesterday.

The hospital will have the capacity of 400 beds, encompassing 280,000 sq ft. The first phase of the construction with 150 beds, is expected to start by the end of 2012.

Its total invesment has yet to be determined, but an average of RM1,000 is budgeted for a bed.

"Approval for zoning has been obtained from the Health Ministry and the details are being finalised," Kamaruzzaman said.

Kamaruzzaman, who is also Johor Corp chief executive and president, said the new hospital will house a "Centres of Excellence" featuring a heart centre, a geriatric centre, cancer centre and a cosmetic and reconstructive centre, among others.

"It will serve as a one-stop centre for all medical services of the highest standards to cater to both local and foreign patients to promote health tourism," he told a press conference yesterday.

At the same time, the group is currently developing new specialist hospitals in Bandar Baru Klang, Muar, Pasir Gudang and Kuantan.

KPJ is investing between RM50 million and RM80 million for each hospital.

It recently completed a deal to buy Sibu Specialist Medical Centre and Sibu Geriatric Health and Nursing Centre in Sarawak at RM28 million on April 6.

Kamaruzzaman expected the new project in Bandar Dato' Onn to further sustain its consistent financial growth in the coming years.

For the year ended December 31 last year, KPJ posted a total revenue of RM1.65 billion, up 13 per cent, compared with RM1.46 billion previously.

Group pre-tax profit improved16 per cent from RM143.89 million to RM166.69 million.

On another note, KPJ is venturing into the retirement and aged care market following its agreement to buy 51 per cent interest in Australian operator Jeta Gardens Waterford Trust for RM19 million.

The deal is expected to be completed by September this year.

"There is a huge market for retirement and aged care. We are in the midst of studying the business and is planning to build several retirement villas around the country," Kamaruzzaman said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Gleneagles Hospital under its parent company, Parkway Pantai Ltd, is set to open two more hospitals by 2014 in Malaysia at an approximate cost of RM700 million.

In addition to the new openings, the hospital operator is in a continuous lookout for more landbank in the East Coast region, its Regional Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles Hospital cum chief executive officer of Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur, Amir Firdaus Abdullah said.

He said the two new hospitals, located in Iskandar Malaysia and Kota Kinabalu, are now seeing earthworks development and by 2014, should be fully operational.

"We have the aim of establishing at least 2,000 more beds by 2020 from the current 380 at the Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur and Gleneagles Penang.

"The hospital in the Iskandar region will host an initial 150 beds but boast a total capacity of 300, while that in Kota Kinabalu, will have 200," he told Bernama in an interview, here today.

Both the Gleneagles medical centres are part of Pantai Holdings Bhd, the operator of private hospitals in the country under the Pantai and Gleagles-brands.

Amir said the hospital operator is also in the midst of identifying new landbank in the East Coast region to open hospitals.

"We are also looking to acquire smaller hospitals in the region," he said, without naming any company under Gleneagles' consideration.

On the Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur, Amir said the company has started the ground works to build a RM140 million, 10-storey block, specially designed for a comprehensive suite of modern healthcare facilities.

"Construction has started and completion is projected for 2014.

The new building will host 100 more beds and an additional 40 consultant suites.

"This brings the total number of beds in the Kuala Lumpur branch to 430," he added.

The Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur boasts a total of 1,200 outpatients and 300 inpatients daily.

St.Luke's Medical Center (SLMC) in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig is in the Top 25 most beautiful hospitals in the world, edging out hospitals from the U.S. and Europe on a list by a healthcare website.

According to HealthExecNews, an information network for healthcare executives, SLMC ranks 11th in the world based on "interior and exterior features and their health-promoting qualities."

"Designs including warm woods and nature-inspired elements, soft color schemes, and exterior facades designed with regards to their natural settings placed these facilities on the list," it said.
