HK999 August 31st, 2010, 12:39 PM the tower is proposed for downtown brooklyn. according to emporis and other sources it will have 65 floors (or more).

Name: City Point
Alternative name: The Center at Albee Square

Virtual address: 126-140 Willoughby Street
Address as text: Willoughby Street at Flatbush Avenue Extension, SW corner
Block: 149

also, emporis mentions a completition date in 2011(!) but that seems highly unlikely.

Citypoint Tower: 65 Stories on Flatbush
The Citypoint website for the project that is going up on the site of the Albee Square Mall doesn't go out of its way to highlight the height of the tower that will rise with the huge development planned for the site. (Brownstoner first drew attention to the site on Monday.) In fact, most renderings of the project has downplayed the tall building. A small rendering appears on the project's website and a somewhat larger one has popped up on the Greenberg Farrow website. The building is planned at 65 stories, far taller than the Williamsburgh Savings Bank building, which is Brooklyn's tallest structure. Here's what the architect's website has to say about the development:
City Point will enliven an already bustling office and retail district in the heart of Brooklyn. Next to the Metrotech office complex and along two major thoroughfares in central Brooklyn, this 1.9 million square foot development features over 500,000 square feet of retail, approximately 280 hotel rooms and 800 residential units along with 250,000 square feet of offices. This signature tower will rise to over 65 stories, rising above the Brooklyn skyline.
Is 65 stories too tall for Flatbush Avenue? Will there be any questions raised about the size of the Citypoint tower? Stay tuned.

droneriot August 31st, 2010, 12:56 PM FINALLY a building that tall for Brooklyn. I really hope this gets approved and built, it would be absolutely awesome if NYC's skyline could spread out into all boroughs. Imagine it, an ocean of skyscrapers. ;)
ChitownCity August 31st, 2010, 05:02 PM I second that :dance2::dance2::dance2:
Eastern37 September 2nd, 2010, 11:02 AM I agree, it really is long overdue, design looks fairly good........
Ni3lS September 2nd, 2010, 02:33 PM I don't want to be rude but don't get over your head, HK999. I understand that you are enthusiast just like any other NY fan but getting info from Emporis and a project located in NY just doesn't go together. I'd like to know 'the other sources' you stated in your post.
HK999 September 2nd, 2010, 03:23 PM ^^ lol, that's because HK has no 200m+ projects going on right now except the New World Centre which is currently under prep. and ICC is completed.
there are three sources to back up this proposal:
1. emporis
2. CTBUH, see here http://buildingdb.ctbuh.org/?do=building&building_id=8981. it also says 65 floors but the height still remains unknown.
3. several articels, i posted one above.
don't worry, i'm not going to create a thread simply based on speculation or from hearsay. ;)

kingsc September 8th, 2010, 08:17 AM Brooklyner is the tallest building in Brooklyn. This look a lot like a supertall that got the can in brooklyn.

Immediately thought of Heron when i saw this. not that Heron is a bad tower or any like it, congrats Brooklyn.
bennyboo September 10th, 2010, 08:10 AM if this is 65 stories tall and not all residential than shouldn't it be much taller than around 650ft? not to mention the spire. perhaps more around 800? :S

that's the why the title says "656ft+". we don't know the exact height.

Here it is — Brooklyn’s tallest building!
Developers showed off this rendering of the skyscrapers planned for the former Albee Square Mall — the long-stalled Downtown City Point retail and residential complex on Flatbush Avenue Extension between Willoughby Street and DeKalb Avenue.
The mock-ups, which were presented to Community Board 2 earlier today, showed two gargantuan skyscrapers on Flatbush. The plan needs the approval of the city before it can move forward.
The two towers — the taller of which could rise to 65 stories or more — would be completed in 2015 and 2016, according to Paul Travis, of Washington Square Partners, which is part of the team of developers behind the plan.
Here's a look at the retail component:

desertpunk March 23rd, 2012, 01:14 AM While the towers await final approval, the retail base of City Point is already under construction:

first phase of the mixed-use CityPoint is opening this summer. It will mean 50,000 square feet of retail just along Fulton Street. A second and third phase, consisting of half-a-million square feet of retail and 1,000 more residential units, will break ground this year

royal rose1 March 23rd, 2012, 02:01 AM That is what I'm talking about! They aren't wasting any time haha
Fardeb March 23rd, 2012, 02:32 AM That first building is pretty much done going by the pics on SSP. Hopefully the tower is up in the 800ft + range.

Yeah, I went ahead and updated. ;)
rencharles March 23rd, 2012, 05:15 AM Awesome. I've got my fingers crossed for the population to accept their full height, and be built soon. :|
chjbolton March 23rd, 2012, 09:16 PM They stole it from London -.-
aclifford March 25th, 2012, 03:09 AM I think he just means the name, there's a tower in London called City Point.
Skyscrapercitizen March 26th, 2012, 04:01 PM Wow getting tall in Brooklyn now! The downtown Brooklyn area is growing denser and denser, which is a very good thing! A 200m+ tower right next to Juniors, who could have imagined that 10 or 15 years ago!
3tmk March 28th, 2012, 06:01 AM Since they only call it Brooklyn's tallest, I can only assume it won't be taller than the Citigroup building in order to claim to be L.I.'s tallest?

It may be a moot point for some time:

City Point's Actual Plans and 'Totally Imaginary' Tower
http://www.brooklyneagle.com/sites/default/files/City_Point_Aerial%5B1%5D%20HIGH%20RES_Cook%2BFox.jpg
It's difficult not to fixate on the image of a 65-story tower standing over DoBro's Albee Square, but the plans for Phase 3 of the City Point development that includes the tower still have renderings that are "really totally imaginary," according to Tom Montvel-Cohen, a representative of Albee Development LLC. The development consortium is just finishing up Phase 1 of their project—45,000 square feet of retail space that is about to get its Temporary Certificate of Occupancy—and concrete details about Phase 2 are now being released. The second stage of development consists of two towers—a 250-unit 19-story building, and a 400-unit 30-story building—connected by a four-story structure containing half a million square feet of retail space. Both buildings will be rentals, with the taller building leasing at market rate and the shorter building renting at a 50-30-20 mix of income levels, according to the Brooklyn Eagle. Any plans for that 65-story tower rumored for Phase 3 are still far in the future.
---
So I'm guessing the developers either want to proceed without approval for anything beyond Phase 2 or are just waiting for the condo market to return before they're ready to build Phase 3. The tallest tower is really a bit much for rentals in BK.

Unveiled> City Point Phase Two
Cook+Fox designs a pair of towers in Downtown Brooklyn.
http://archpaper.com/uploads/image/bk_city_point_01.jpg
With a four-story retail complex ready to open along Brooklyn’s Fulton Street Mall, City Point’s second phase, designed by Cook+Fox with Lee Weintraub Landscape Architecture, is ready to move forward. Phase two consists of two residential towers—standing 19 and 30 stories and holding a combined 650 units—sitting atop a 500,000-square-foot retail podium. “The whole project is envisioned conceptually as one project, a big mixed-use transit-oriented development,” said Cook+Fox partner Rick Cook. “This is a perfect spot for a tall building in Brooklyn.”
Cook said the towers’ skins are currently being designed, but each building will have its own identity. “We intend to play off a similar fenestration pattern and skin” of the first phase, Cook said, which could incorporate the same custom-glazed white terra-cotta tiles. Landscaped areas are subtly incorporated into the site and on the rooftops. “We’ve created a series of recesses on the street wall where we could incorporate green spaces,” Cook said. A glass market hall leads through the site to the planned Willoughby Park by Michael Van Valkenburgh. A future third phase calls for an even taller building that Cook said will anchor the corner with a strong sense of verticality.

erbse May 2nd, 2012, 01:42 PM Great development for Brooklyn! :okay: Are there even more towers in the pipeline?
yankeesfan1000 May 2nd, 2012, 04:38 PM Great development for Brooklyn! :okay: Are there even more towers in the pipeline?
Yeah. By late summer the two tallest buildings in Brooklyn will be U/C, seen below. Plus the Atlantic Yards area around the Barclays Center will see a handful of towers of varying heights over the next few years, but a lot of those are more long term plans, that are probably at least a year or two out. Plus the waterfront on the Brooklyn side is really booming price wise within new developments, so that area will be developed, but I doubt anything of real size goes right on the water, probably at most mid 300s. Sorry that a little off topic as that news was released several months ago.
Brooklyn's New Tallest Tower Will Break Ground in 2012

"The Brooklyner's reign as Brooklyn's tallest residential building was nice while it lasted. But next year ground will break on two new buildings vying for the Borough's Tallest title. The Journal reviews the contenders: 388 Bridge Street, which just got a much-needed loan and will break ground early in 2012, and Avalon Willoughby West, which expects to begin construction later next year.
The 388 Bridge project, at 590 feet, will contain 234 rentals on the lower floors and 144 condos on the upper floors (a format that's all the rage these days). The Avalon project is expected to be—ruh-roh—596 feet tall, with 861 rental units. According to the renderings we've got on file, both towers were designed by SLCE, so it seems the firm's the real winner here."
Fardeb May 2nd, 2012, 05:08 PM ^^^ Yeah those two and whatever gets built in the third phase of this should form a nice little ~600ft cluster, perhaps a bit higher than that for this site.
There is also The Hub, which should be in that height range as well. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1488338

City Point lands Century 21 as anchor tenant needed to launch construction
http://therealdeal.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/CityPoint.jpg
Century 21 has agreed to open a store at the Fulton Mall in Downtown Brooklyn, the Wall Street Journal reported, expediting the groundbreaking of the long-awaited City Point development. The discount retailer is the first new traditional department store to open in Downtown Brooklyn since the 1970s and will serve as the anchor tenant for City Point, a planned development of 675,000 square feet of retail and commercial space and 690 housing units at Dekalb and Flatbush avenues.
With the tenant in hand, Acadia Realty Trust and Washington Square Partners plan to break ground on the project this summer and have pushed forward the ground breaking date for the last phase of the complex, a 680-foot residential tower, to 2017.
“We would not have moved forward without an anchor. Century 21 was what we really needed to make this project a reality,” said Washington Square President Paul Travis.
[...]
And away we go! Hopefully the tallest component can begin sooner. Market forces will determine...
Fardeb May 10th, 2012, 11:07 PM Good news about the anchor tenant. So the two smaller buildings one with 19 and one with 30 stories should begin this summer.
I'm sure the 680ft for phase 3 isn't completely etched in stone at this point but that would indeed make it the tallest building on Long Island. Glad to see it get a bump in starting date as well even if it is still a long ways off.
Eric Offereins May 11th, 2012, 12:56 PM Definitely good news. So there will be 2 towers rising soon.
