La Rue Française, near Lyceé Galatasaray, was recently restored (painted and fixed) and opened two weeks or so ago. It's an entire district of cafés, pubs and restaurants that resembles similar areas in Vienna - but a lot larger.

I was there yesterday night, at the Place de l'art. The food is good, but a bit expensive. And since it was Saturday (extremely crowded), the service was a bit slow. But it's a very beautiful place (every terrace and roof is also a bar, pub or restaurant, with a view of the Golden Horn)

Here are a few photos taken right after the completion of the restoration works. Another small piece of Istanbul's history is recovered charmfully. :)

I don't really recognize french street : generally flat , and the colors aren't so shining ! Purple, yellow, .... in true old french cities, claddings are tired and grey ;)

Actually these were all stone buildings (some of them marble) but they decided to paint them (a cheaper restoration) instead of cleaning the stone façades (more expensive and difficult), which gave the neighbourhood a more "Viennese" character rather than French. :D

The lamps were a gift from the Municipality of Paris.

It looks "a bit" like Nice on the French Riviera (very influenced by Italian architecture), but definitely not a typical French street imo.

so this new district is a lot larger than the old parts of vienna? that must be a huge project, how big is it?

it's look like more than the old center of lyon : le vieux LYON
with a lot of color and with the great picutre on the wall (one of the main definiton of LYON) and of course with the street not really flat when you go to Fourviere
