I was inspired by the pics in the 7 Wonders thread to make a thread of ruins of castles, cathedrals, abbeys, etc. I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to castles and such, so seeing pics of ruins and reading about the history behind them makes me a super nerd because I'm a history nerd too. In all seriousness, if I could spend a couple months in Scotland visiting many of the castles and ruins in the country, I would. Maybe it wouldn't get me a job or anything much, but just knowing what the stories behind these castles were before they deteriorated to their current state is something much of the people of Scotland have not done.

Any pics is highly encouraged and I'll post both pics and background stories of each interesting ruin I post on here. :)

Poltalloch House in Argyll, near Kilmartin. Apologies for the dark pics, they're a few years old and it was definitely in the gloaming by the time I found the place, but it seems kinda fitting in a Dark Towers way...!

Built slap-bang in the middle of the 19th century as a seat for the Malcolm family, roofless since the 1950s. Listing description here:
