Caledon1981 November 19th, 2002, 10:17 PM yuk... 3.5/10 why do they build these kind of towers:?
Ersh November 19th, 2002, 10:59 PM This one looks really awkward. 5.5/10
Liz L November 19th, 2002, 11:26 PM 6/10 - The glass cylinder rising from the square stone of the lower part of the tower is effective, and the glass contrasts nicely with the stone. The strips of glass running down the entire facade are also a good touch. But the tower is too broad and boxy, and the stone needs, IMO more detailing.
The base seems to be fairly well done, though it's hard to tell, and there's more good contrast between glass and stone. But its different colors mean that it doesn't seem to go with the tower, so the overall effect is cluttered and fussy.
And the top doesn't seem to fit in too well, either, since it doesn't have anything much in common with the building underneath it.
SteelCity32 November 19th, 2002, 11:28 PM Its cool. I don't care for those type spires. The structure is good and I really like the idea of it on top of that market thing or whatever it is.
7/10
Bobdreamz November 19th, 2002, 11:38 PM this is a building in search of an identity!!..it can't decide what it wants to be..between the stone exterior and the cylinder tower and the top it looks like 3 buildings in one..i've seen designs like this in grade school....yuck!....4/10
D-Mac November 20th, 2002, 07:16 AM I think I'll echo what most have been saying: yuck! There is absolutely no coherence to this design whatsoever. 3.0/10
AG November 20th, 2002, 10:28 AM Too wide and fat. The dome at the top makes it stand out a bit, but the dome does not really fit with the rest of the building.
6/10
RafflesCity November 20th, 2002, 07:31 PM 7.5/10
I know this comes across as juvenile to many, but I cant help but feel that it is a cheerful design and at least its highly symmetrical.
Muse November 20th, 2002, 07:37 PM ...and yes, at the very least it is symmetrical.
Another scraper with a combination of forms and materials.
Although i do like the curved green glass, what intarnation is that multi-colored, multi-storey base :? .
A "tryhard" tall.
BTW Where is this "dome" that adelaideglenelg refers to? More like a spire or pinnacle me finks.
6 I kinda guess.
CG5 November 21st, 2002, 05:56 AM What???
Get this that some ritalin and call a facade doctor. Ew. EW. That is the epitome of BAD POSTMODERNISM. That tinker-toy disaster is lucky I can't vote in the negatives...
DamienK November 21st, 2002, 08:25 AM This ill proportioned building looks like a bizarre rocket ship, or something out of Toy Town. . . 5/10
Jasonhouse November 21st, 2002, 09:01 AM Complete and utter crap. This is exactly the sort of building that is giving Asian highrise architecture a very bad name around the World. Perhaps the Asian culture prefers this sort of chintz, but in my culture, buildings like this are ridiculed and derided.
3.5/10
SUNNI November 21st, 2002, 09:55 AM 3 or less.
this is the first time i had to give a bldg in the top 100 that bad..
looks like a toy lego, thing! even its spire doesnt match the bldg!
yuk !
Sunflower November 22nd, 2002, 12:01 AM sorry, but the base is terrible, and the crown, and the rest is only very slightly better...and none of the seperate styles fit togther at all.
And how exactly do you get a 5 year old building to look so dirty?
3.5/10 - I only give 3 or less to complete crap but this one comes very close.
De Snor November 23rd, 2002, 12:32 AM Come on this is an eyesoare a 0 !!
Jeff from Winnipeg November 23rd, 2002, 03:04 AM What the ***k? I've seen many a box better than this! My lowest score yet ->4/10

Cheap building materials.
Jasonhouse November 23rd, 2002, 07:16 PM Whoah! That nastiness is on the pedestal permanantly? I thought that these were construction pics, and that the cladding hadn't been put on the pedestal of the building yet... Yikes, that really is nasty and very cheap/chintzy looking...
Man, I think this is a real bonafide case of a building being more of an eyesore/embarrassment to the city, instead of showing us how "great" they are.
Pablo November 25th, 2002, 11:36 AM quite beautiful but more beautiful at night;)
TYW December 26th, 2002, 04:53 AM quite nice 7.5/10
SeeMacau December 29th, 2002, 06:30 AM The building is a bit fat
4/10

Probably one of the worst buildings I've ever seen in my life. Complete disgrace to all architecture.

DrumCorpsAlum February 22nd, 2003, 10:24 PM A bit gaudy, but it's unique. 7.5/10.

But that's about it..
5.0/10
Chi-town February 24th, 2003, 07:37 AM This building is hideous. I gave it a "3 or less". Really it deserves a 1.
ShangHigh February 25th, 2003, 09:49 AM Bluga and me are probably the only ones here who have seen this beauty in real. It's especially gorgeous at night. It suits Wuhan very well...
9/10
Monkey March 24th, 2003, 08:46 AM Several things are quite unfortunate about Jiala Plaza, I'm afraid, although it also has redeeming features. It rises quite awkwardly out of a bases that seems hardly related to the tower. Almost the entire top third is a patchwork of different elements that don't relate to each other. Yet I like the color combination of the tan stone and the green glass, as well as parts of the design of the lower portion of the building. A 5.5.
Fabian April 5th, 2003, 11:46 AM The top is terribly ugly and very poorly designed. It has not been incorporated well into the rest of the tower.
A real disappointment
3/10
Renx April 5th, 2003, 04:05 PM The tower is nice, but the lower part doesn`t fit to the building in my opinion.
huaiwei April 8th, 2003, 05:07 PM If not for the section jus below the crown, it would have been a much more successful tower. 7/10.
Evergrey April 11th, 2003, 03:16 AM 3 oh my, this thing is ugly!
AndrewC April 17th, 2003, 07:13 PM Shame on you all! Its not that bad!

kiku99 April 24th, 2003, 10:21 AM 7.5/10 I don't think it looks that bad.
coldstar April 24th, 2003, 10:47 AM at least, I don't like it AT ALL. 2 or 3/10
Chad April 24th, 2003, 01:06 PM Oh my GOD!!! Who is the Architect that designed this building!!!......4/10
jonathan April 24th, 2003, 04:36 PM It oughta be illegal for things like this to be built :puke:
Downtown April 25th, 2003, 01:03 AM What? I can see a few people finding it awkward but just about everyone hates it. When I opened the thread I thought I would be seeing some nasty, horrible colored box. But this skyscraper is different, maybe too different for some of you but I like it.

great analysis. I agree with you completely. If the top is matches more with the body and if the base uses the same colors as the body, I would've given a 7.
4/10
AtlanticaC5 May 12th, 2003, 05:38 PM It looks like a mix of the Conde Nast Bldg, Westin Peachtree Plaza and....and...something more.
4/10
Wisma May 14th, 2003, 12:32 PM Looks ok when it's dark. 5.5/10
rj2uman May 26th, 2003, 06:30 PM ok here is my attempted to be objective here. what really makes this bldg not attactive is the base. without the mall there it would look at look taller and detract away from the busy top. Also they should have done something better with the roof cone. The flat sides make it look like a shiny cell tower. All in all this one is just too busy for its own good. Hopefully other taller bldgs will crowd it out or surround it for its own good.
It does look good at night though....... 6.5/10

7 World Trade August 22nd, 2003, 07:06 AM i don't get it, why so many ppl rated this one so badly? it's such a unique building. i like how the architect made contrasts glass and masonry on this building. they just need to reclad the base to meke it correspond with the tower more.

there is something about this tower that I don't like.
MCC November 12th, 2003, 11:29 PM 4/10 Because it has some height.
Trances November 14th, 2003, 12:59 PM bit of a mix of styles
almost like 3 towers in one
like someone has jumble low mid and high rise
Still its some what special and does have roof feature and some height ratio over width

manx_bkk November 20th, 2003, 08:07 AM 7.5/10
Nice shape & facade but the crown does not seem to match with the rest of the building.
MJ939 January 19th, 2004, 01:35 AM Ugly. It would be a bit better if the white corners went up higher and there was less of that glaring solid green center.
I give it a 2.

yoyo22 July 28th, 2004, 08:19 PM 4/10
Its not a bad building, but its not that great either. It is a unique use of space, and the design is somewhat unusual (although not by any means unique). I like the general shape (minus exteraneous and juvenile architectural details) of the tower. Still the WHOLE thing feels like a mall (not just the mall part), a lot like a "plastic/commercial" feeling mall in the US, or like a toy for a toddler. Like the color, and the mix of glass and masonry, and from a business standpoint its interesting, but thats it.

Oh my.... the only thing mildly redeeming about this oddity is the glass effect of the cylindrical portion of the tower. They need to build 8 really tall buildings surrounding it.
Taufiq December 3rd, 2004, 03:33 AM Love the facade at the top, but it's height doesn't exactly flatter.
Caiman December 5th, 2004, 01:10 AM 5/10 its not very attractive at all!

Nice height, and extremely pleasing at night.

looks like shit,i've designed better buildings than that when i was in middle school.
lets start from the top,the pyramidal roof doesn't fit in it tries to copy messeturm(sp?),the spire has to go.the green glass is ok and i like the circularshape at the top but whats up with the square finy things.the stucco facade should be removed, make the complete structure that circular glass type at the top.the base is horrendous and needs to be destroyed..........

Scruffy88 January 9th, 2006, 09:35 PM I like the bottom and middle with the green glass and the white stone. They look great together. But once the stone ends and all thats left is the green cylinder, all hell breaks loose. the four squares are atrocious and the crown isn't much better. ruins the whole project.

rxpilot February 25th, 2006, 07:57 AM The interior looks extravagant, but the exterior seems a mismatched patchwork of differnt styles - pathetically patched together. Agree with Pablo that it looks better at night - maybe the darkness hides some of the patchwork? =D

Erebus555 June 18th, 2006, 05:10 PM It just doesnt seem to know what it wants so it just rams a load of different styles into one to create a piece of architecture which looks like Picaso under the influence of drugs and alcohol whilst trying to feed a baby.
Tom Ace June 20th, 2006, 03:41 PM 5.5/10. Would look really nice if it was a different color with different colored glass and the top didn't have those huge blue squares on each side. Also seems way to wide.

What a mess! A clear pattern has emerged for highrises in mainland China - in a totally misguided effort to look "modern", incompetent Chinese architects (and equally incompetent and meddlesome bureaucrats) try to cramp all kinds of shapes and styles into a highrise project regardless of their architectural merits.
The result - a bunch of ugly, garbage-like eyesores far worse than simple cubes.
It's not just inexperience or bad taste anymore; it's a sheer lack of common sense.
(Common sense is in spite of, not the result of, education.)

The architects of this building are obviously unqualified. My guess is that they got the job through "back door" - the way of life in mainland China.

Most mainland Chinese architects are incompetent. We all know that through their atrocious designs. But one thing you probably didn't know is their huge ego. They readily consider themselves among the best, if not the best, in the world. The rabid attacks on French architect Paul Andrew over the design of Beijing's National Grand Theatre were more than enough to demonstrate their arrogance.
As for the building ...

It doesn't matter how new a building is in China. Most of the time it looks dirty before the construction is complete and stays dirty afterwards. I theorize that it's an extention of the bad personal hygiene of mainland Chinese ... the spitting, the public toilets, the smoking etc etc.

It is not carried down to the base but is flat surfaced.....not sure i like that too much. at least they carried the glass down. the material they used to construct the base looks super filthy...that's that good chinese air.....a 7
