That's some uber-fast construction speed. I mean, from less than ten stories in February 2010 to top floor (40th floor) in January 2011.

In less than a year. Damn that's fast

^^Yep, that's really impressive. Hats off!
I remember when I was wandering around in last January, and that I thought it was a wasteland. At that time I didn't know that there they would build this gorgeous building! But I soon realized:)
Great redevelopment, together with "Shinjuku Front Tower". I love the gradation after the branching of the road: a 70m. building, then a 160m. one, and then a 200m. one.

BTW, it may answer this question:
Once a skyscrapers foundations have been laid, how long does it take to top out the frame?

Japanese construction companies ARE fast:banana2:

This area will not stop to rise! Apart from the 3 buildings (130m,160m,209m., See the compilation thread!) proposed in Shinjuku 5-chome, here are two projects/proposals very close to this thread's one:

Just behind this thread's project, there's a proposal for 30 floors building. They seem to be really ready to start, but there's strong opposition from the locals. The reason is that it would be inside Naruko shrine which is an important historical place, with many curiosities (For example there's huge engraved stones that were used for training by Edo era sumo wrestlers, etc.). They would even move a part of the home of the deity. But I can tell you, it's really really narrow. If you'd see it, you couldn't believe that they plan to build a high-rise in such a narrow space. If built, it would probably a record in land use ratio!!!

Here's a pic I took last spring (don't mind the watermark please).

http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/5783/hantai.jpg

And this is from 01/20.

http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/2702/tenjin.jpg

http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/8610/tenjin2.jpg

Another redevelopment plan in the area has more chances to start soon: The Leopalace 21 Replacement Plan.
It's really in front of this thread's project, just on the other side of the road.
It's supposed to be 30 floors/ 140m. I think it's still awaiting approval (not sure), but the plan is to start construction this year for a completion in 2013.
It was mentioned on this picture:

The more I look at it the more I love this tower.

(It looks like it's tainted but it's not, it's the reflexion of the sunset light, and the black side is the shadow of Shinjuku Front Tower)

The wind was incredibly strong in between the 2 towers. A real wind corridor!!

The site (or at least part of the site I can't completely translate the post) has been sold to Daiwa House. This means there will be a residential tower instead of just a new office. When there's more news I'll post it in the news thread.

I'm wondering if this building is 198 M or 196 M?
I found in many resources around the web that the actual height is 196 M.

Momo1435
August 25th, 2011, 06:43 AM
I see, I missed the height reduction and since this tower is almost completed I never really pay attention to it anymore other then when the regular blogs post about it.

And it's actually just 195.25m.

最高部195.25m、建築物188.80m(オフィス棟)
(注意)最高部198.20m、建築物192.61mから変更

What's more, since the tower is officially days away from completion it surprises me that it still doesn't have it's final name. But maybe that will be announced together with the notice that the project is completed.

Yeah!
Btw, I love Tokyo's trees and greenery always look very leafy and vivid green. Sometimes I even think it gives a look kind of luxury, it is hard for me to explain it in english . I don't know if it is related to the species of trees that are planted in Tokyo.

Also, I've heard many people complaining about Tokyo being a city that lacks a lot of trees, but from what I've seen in pictures, maybe Tokyo doesn't have big parks (as big as Central Park) but I think it has way more trees in the street, distributed around the entire city and not just in one green area, than other major cities like New York.
