I particularly like Vilnius skyline with this new tower, looks way cool... Hope Tallinn builds similar way - great skyline... ch1le August 22nd, 2005, 05:56 PM i think that lowrise (ehhe) was from Klaipeda, the render seems to be done by a 8 year old ShuMi August 22nd, 2005, 06:27 PM ^^ I thought about that too :D Between, what did that ehhe mean? :sly: And what will be the exact height of the towers? ch1le August 28th, 2005, 11:29 AM Its really tall now :) View from Radisson: http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/4523/tt7al.jpg Dysfunctional August 28th, 2005, 01:29 PM Like 10-11-12 now? Very nice indeed! The guys with their offices in the Postimees bld. must be very happy now :tongue3: BTW that's a very good picture! ShuMi August 28th, 2005, 01:35 PM ^^ Who cares? It`s important that ch1le is happy :D Dysfunctional August 28th, 2005, 01:43 PM Hehe yea! :) Hey, what are those green thingys in the middle of the road? ch1le August 28th, 2005, 02:06 PM yeah Indeed LOL, postimehe people must be happy :) That reminds me... look at the density when Tornimäe is finished.... there will be no light at Postimehe building side when Tornimäe is done! ;) the 11th floor is UC... The green thingies are for ventilation, they also serve as commercial space :) (there is underground parking below the road...) oh and Shumy... the height should be 114.9 for the residential and 109.5 for the hotel.. so they are tall, very Tall! Gatis August 28th, 2005, 10:10 PM the height should be 114.9 for the residential and 109.5 for the hotel.. so they are tall, very Tall! Hope that somebody from HongKong does not pass by, otherwise he will laugh his ass away ;) No, of course, for Baltics it is not bad. ShuMi August 28th, 2005, 10:32 PM Doh, it will be a few meters taller than our tallest residential :bash: ch1le August 29th, 2005, 09:14 AM Hope that somebody from HongKong does not pass by, otherwise he will laugh his ass away ;) No, of course, for Baltics it is not bad. hehe ofcourse :) but we are not competing with New York or Tokyo here anyway... this is about the baltics... and by european standards ... 115m isnt that small news :) Obstacle August 29th, 2005, 01:16 PM someday, someday i'm sure Tallinn will have a 150 one, but probably only one. And that is the max. ch1le September 3rd, 2005, 09:01 PM http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/2039/tt4er.jpg lol... the lower floors are just HUGE! :D ch1le September 4th, 2005, 12:45 PM did someone say this tower is boxy?! LOL.... you ought to be tarred and feathered... heres the Apartment tower floorplan, got it from DOKA webpage (the formwork) so... their systems are also on the floorplan... (the yellow stuff around towers) http://www.doka.com/imperia/md/images/doka/german/references/kc/kc1-sk/319.jpg and the HOTEL tower: http://www.doka.com/imperia/md/images/doka/german/references/kc/kc1-sk/320.jpg ch1le September 9th, 2005, 06:00 PM http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/44/untitled1copy0hs.jpg that floor is now uc... 11th floor... but the design of the facade fools you to think its the 14/15th floor :P mic of Orion September 10th, 2005, 04:58 AM great project I think, it will create great skyline for Tallinn, at least top 3-4 in ex-commie states.... Siberian September 10th, 2005, 09:37 AM http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/44/untitled1copy0hs.jpg The building is great and quite tall for Tallinn, but it looks too boxy IMO Whose Homepage September 10th, 2005, 09:44 AM On the whole I don't have too many problems with this building (I've seen worse :D), but those matchstick "colums" at the bottom are just ridiculous. Sorry. ch1le September 10th, 2005, 11:55 AM Siberian: Its not boxy look at the floorplan Wh: sorry you dont like them, but they are important, you see it creates integration with the urban fabric, the same "matchsticks" are also with Union, its like a space cut in the side of the tower :) also, do you know that the base of the two towers is as wide as the base of the Sears Tower  Siberian September 10th, 2005, 01:51 PM Siberian: Its not boxy look at the floorplan I meant that design is too simple. The building looks like the skyscrapers of 60's, for example like most of the skyscrapers in Midtown, NY. But mostly new high-rises in Tallinn have much modern and interesting design (Radisson SAS, Hansapank, the surrounding buildings like Postimees and that black&white just opposite the new building, etc). I think Tallinn deserves unboring architecture! ;) ch1le September 10th, 2005, 01:52 PM hmm, its not ground breaking, true, but its elegance is in its glass... i think it will be spectacular! But yeah, im afraid we wont get designs like Union bank here for some time... we really need some hard architects to come to Tallinn and see what they can do... Eerik September 10th, 2005, 10:24 PM Despite its scale, perhaps Tornimäe will perform more as a background building in the Tallinn skyline than anything else. With the striking silhouette of the Union Bank tower and the Radisson, Tornimäe will add a serene presence to the skyline, one which is already punctured by the newer buildings, as well as by the older church spires. I can’t think of any better means of doing this than by using a modern vernacular; the look and feel of 60s and 70s International Style is one thing missing in the new Tallinn skyline, and will add density to a new downtown that has filled up with too many buildings seeking to claim attention. The matchsticks are misleading. The often-portrayed image of the completed building does not portray the entire streetscape. The matchsticks help create a loggia of sorts, again something not found on many Tallinn streets. I’ve been anxiously watching progress on this building from Washington DC. I was hoping to be in Tallinn again this past summer, but didn’t make it. Does anyone have (or could anyone post) photos of the building from a distance, say Pirita or further out? The building should begin to emerge on the skyline very soon, no? ch1le September 10th, 2005, 11:24 PM Eerik, you have a way with words! And yes, the building is already doing its part in the skyline and is seen from Pirita and most other places! I think tornimäe is a very good addition because its sheer height, it is just plain simple and will add much needed height to roof to Tallinn, it will make Radisson/Union smaller, and it will demand presance like WTC twins in NY! :) I dont have any photos of Tornimäe impacting the skyline, but i will take some soon... Oh heres one i took some time ago, its definatly higher now http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/1530/img1208s4af.jpg also, one thing i admire about this building... is ofcourse the sheer height (hehehe)... imagine seeing this rizing behind Union, DOMINATING IT :D sander September 11th, 2005, 11:09 AM I agree with Ch1le and Eerik. Imo Tallinn needs some simple-looking towers, which would help to form a nice skyline. ;) S.T.A.S. September 11th, 2005, 03:58 PM Everyone says that boxy buildings "destroy the beauty of a city", I think boxy buildings like City plaza and the Olumpia hotel, is what this city needs to make it look more modern, than it is already now!!! Dysfunctional September 11th, 2005, 08:52 PM ch1le - Could you make a render in that picture, can't really picture the height :) http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/1530/img1208s4af.jpg ch1le September 11th, 2005, 09:45 PM http://img351.imageshack.us/img351/8364/tornim1rd.jpg well then i hope this will help you.... drew just the outlines of apartment tower... rough guess... dont take it as pure gold ch1le September 13th, 2005, 06:12 PM update(guess its about 12 or 13 floors now) http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/9440/img19063nl.jpg ch1le September 16th, 2005, 06:20 PM 13th Floor UC http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/7648/img20090iz.jpg :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: sander September 16th, 2005, 08:47 PM Wow, this structure looks already quite tall. Gatis September 16th, 2005, 10:27 PM Brrr, that residential was a mistake. You should enclose it among nice highrises ;) Jarmo K September 17th, 2005, 04:18 PM ^^ i agree! (: Dysfunctional September 25th, 2005, 04:31 PM Bah! It doesn't show that much anyways :) ch1le September 25th, 2005, 04:49 PM 20th August 2005 http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/1530/img1208s4af.jpg 24th Sept 2005 http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/6466/update3fg.jpg sander September 25th, 2005, 05:28 PM Pretty fastly buildings have rised... That`s good. ShuMi September 25th, 2005, 05:32 PM Maybe some pics from closer? S.T.A.S. September 25th, 2005, 07:22 PM To ch1le: Which part of Tallinn you took those last 2 pics from, I wanna check it out next time I'm in Tallinn??? ch1le September 25th, 2005, 09:26 PM closer? PLease! http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/8936/img2507s1vq.jpg @Stas Its taken from the cellulosise plant, next to Fahle (www.fahle.ee) is another similar building, which isnt under renovation yet, and you can climb to its top quite freely, but you have to have balls of steel (hehe), because the ladder is like a zillion years old and rusted to bits :) S.T.A.S. September 26th, 2005, 12:02 PM Alrite thanks! Enoch Root September 26th, 2005, 02:00 PM Estonian Harju County Rescue Service spokesman Kirill Teiter issued a following press release: "On Sunday, September 25. at 10.20 PM the rescue service received a call that on the top of a tower crane Tornimäe 3 [the Tornimäe twin towers building site], a dead-drunk and angry female crane operator is sitting in her cab, and wants to climb down by herself.   The cab was placed so high, that the rescue services' lift could not reach it. Rescuers then climbed up and assessed the situation. Using a rope to rescue her would be too dangerous. Because her sober boyfriend was with the woman, the agressive lady was left up there, under his supervision, until next morning. The rescue service was also told that the woman was boozy already in the morning, :bash: when she started operating the crane. Nevertheless she was allowed to start working at great height." This story is mind-blowing. :naughty: It's hilarious  but then again a serious accident could happen. :wallbash: Fortunately, it was prevented :applause: Gatis September 26th, 2005, 02:38 PM She must repeat it when crane will reach full height - then rescue service would have really hard time! ch1le September 26th, 2005, 04:12 PM OMFG that is insane! mic of Orion September 27th, 2005, 01:26 AM Estonian Harju County Rescue Service spokesman Kirill Teiter issued a following press release: "On Sunday, September 25. at 10.20 PM the rescue service received a call that on the top of a tower crane Tornimäe 3 [the Tornimäe twin towers building site], a dead-drunk and angry female crane operator is sitting in her cab, and wants to climb down by herself.   The cab was placed so high, that the rescue services' lift could not reach it. The facade is, well, its okay, cant really say right now, since there is a "blastic bag" coating over it, so it doesnt get damaged and dirty, i have no idea when they will remove the coating. Expect pics today, ill try to whaule my camera to the site and make a zillion pics of it, but remember, theres that coating on it right now! But general assesment... I think its quite good ;) edit: Also, this piece isnt a tester or whatever, its the real thing and other pieces will start following now ;) The facade will go up quite quickly, they installed that piece in about 3-4 hours, and its not a small piece, its rather huge ch1le October 4th, 2005, 05:59 PM once again... this isnt what it will look like, the coating of plastic is dirty, and it is think... :D http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/8983/img2726s5lk.jpg http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/302/small8iz.jpg http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/9591/img2752s3ml.jpg closeup of the "dirt and plastic" http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/4599/img2710s4xv.jpg sander October 4th, 2005, 07:10 PM That`s really cool. Enoch Root October 10th, 2005, 12:26 PM According to Eesti ekspress weekly last week, the price of apartments at Tornimäe twin tower - there's 188 of them - is up to 50 000 EEK/m2 (1EEK=15,6466 €). Only 20 apartments are yet unsold. ch1le October 10th, 2005, 01:52 PM S.T.A.S its about 600+ mio EEK, tartu mnt 15 (35 storeys) is keeping a low profile... should start construction any time soon, as far as i know they have all the permits now! sdes October 10th, 2005, 07:39 PM I like the black color of the facade, and how it reflects the light, even that the plastic is covering it. Looks tall already :) ch1le October 10th, 2005, 07:42 PM 15th floor is UC... so basically we can say by floorcount (if we exclude boiler floor) its 50% done S.T.A.S. More info in regard to Tornimäe.... this thing never seaces to surprise me. A restaurant will be on the 30th Floor. Now, the thing thats weird, is that it seems illogical that this would be in the residential tower, so it seems it will be in the hotel tower, now.... the remarkable thing... as of current sources, we know the hotel will be 28 floors. The plot thickens.... not only does the render portray what to me seems like a minimum of 32 floors.... anyway.... download this PDF file and drool over the Renders, dont forget to zoom in. I fell in love with Tallinn. This was the first time for me visiting the city and although I've heard a lot about it and seen so many pictures I was really surprised in a positive way. I especially liked it how well the old town was preserved and how a new modern skyline was being built pretty close to the old one but so that neither destroys the otherone and so that they both in co-operation create a very beautiful city. It's also nice to see so much construction going on, I'll definitely visit Tallinn over and over again in the near future just to see the development in my own eyes. It's faschinating. Mystery21 January 29th, 2006, 12:09 AM i like :D ch1le January 29th, 2006, 11:22 AM glad you liked it, although i can imagine the harbour area had to be a shock tournesol January 29th, 2006, 02:28 PM Wow!! :) Cool photos :okay: How close to topping out is Tornimäe? ch1le January 29th, 2006, 04:51 PM 6 to 8 floors more to go sander January 29th, 2006, 09:10 PM Tornimäe towers look already quite tall. He especially referenced the construction of these "two towers" in the city-centre and how impressive they look. Hats off to those who initially proposed the extension of Tartu mnt. But its thankfully just the tint of the protective plastic cover on the facades... those along with the transparent (but still dimming etc) covers will be removed when tower is completed. karackhal April 27th, 2006, 10:37 AM damn that blue stuff scared the stuffing out of me too but thankfully i noticed a small uncovered patch in the facade where the normal facade can be seen ... YanXenus April 28th, 2006, 03:42 PM dont worry about the blue stuff :D .... its thankfully just the tint of the protective plastic cover on the facades... those along with the transparent (but still dimming etc) covers will be removed when tower is completed. I have some ideas here about that blue thing. First - it is some another material there for sure .( some another type off glass than on rest surface of facade) It is not logical to have a same glass blocks in differently colored protective plastics. And the fact that all blocks of this color are instaled in one place only just confirms this. Other question is - what type of glass is it? And that blue color - is this the color of coveral plastic or a color of glass- itself ? Usually this plastic is transparent (on high reflecting, dark or other color glass block) cause - one can see glass- itself without problems during of construction. And the sole reason (i see ) to have such colorful protective plastic - is the transparent glass. Workers must see it during the work ( the elementary safety). ch1le April 28th, 2006, 04:54 PM the blue thing is DEFINITELY the protective plastic. in one place a strip has peeled off.. showing the normal facade behind. and the black facade at some places also has a weird bluish tint on it. so theres no point to argue, its just the cover! ch1le April 28th, 2006, 04:56 PM and workers would have no problem seeing the facade without the plastic :D they are absolutely huge pieces with alot of aluminium details... mlm April 28th, 2006, 06:37 PM /\ Sorry for getting into this but, he also says that the blue thing is platic: "And the sole reason (i see ) to have such colorful protective plastic - is the transparent glass." I don't think anyone questions that. Anyway, I'm also curious WHY this platic cover is different for this one floor. Could the reason be that this floor is used for something else than the others (maybe mechanical of some kind? spa? something 3rd?), and therefore the glass is less transparant than the on the "normal" floors (but will still have the same look from the outside)? ch1le April 28th, 2006, 08:27 PM i think it was just a patch of glass that was made in the factory with that kind of cover. The floor is still for apartments. All of the plastic on the tower will be removed when its done... and the facade will be muuuuch better than... ch1le April 28th, 2006, 08:34 PM heres the uncompressed version... clearly you can see "strip" where the blue thing isnt on.. http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/5370/facade2wo.jpg the plastic is quite obvious  DrT April 28th, 2006, 09:06 PM @Ch1le, nice pics and goodlooking project.
