Hi guys, here you can see the pics of my recent travel to Bucharest. This city surprised me a lot, the big avenues and squares, the nice and enormous parks and the people, funny and very very kind. I recommend you a visit to this fantastic european capital.
-A view from my hotel's room:

Calea Victoriei Street, in this street we can find some interesting buildings:

-Romanian Senate, former headquarters of the Romanian Communist Party. In that balcony Ceausescu did told his last speech to the people before he was arrested and executed:

-The Romanian Atheneum:

-The Cantacuzino Palace, which holds the George Enescu Palace:

And, now, to the south and the Parliament Palace:

-The great Bulevardul Unirii:

An now..... the Palatul Parlamentului with 87 metres high and 270x240, the second largest building in the world, after the Pentagon. This pharaonic building was the "crown of jewel" of Ceausescu's madness.
You can see different and detailed views:

And now, to the north, to the Victory Square, with the building of the romanian government. This square is gorgeous:

-The Arcul de Triunf (1939):
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v348/Torn2/Bucuresti/arcul.jpg

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v348/Torn2/Bucuresti/satului1.jpg

And now, one of my Bucharest favourites, the Casa Presei Libere (Free Press House), with 104 mts high, I think is Bucharest's tallest. Pure stalinist building built in 1956.

Yes, Kommandant, a lot of old buildings are now in renovation, and the city looks pretty but it needs a lot of work to be more nice. In the next years I hope will be the time for this development.

Didn't know Bucharest had such nice buildings.
As I say renovation of old buildings is essential for a city.
If they manage to lay out some gardens and push back commie style blocks Bucharest
could be high rated in the region.

This city can be as popular as Prague and Budapest.

Well it needs visitors i personally the fact that is that Romania is underperforming because of its corruption and being underrated. Though everything looks okay on the surface there are serious problems with poverty, unemployement and education.

I almost feel sorry for Romania to be in such a mess.

you are not telling me that after chauchescu and his crazy wife Romania managed to turn Bucharest from almost nothing to this relatively pretty
city. I don't believe you. I think its more the downtown that was, still is being renovated. Look behind this surface and you'll get something different from what you see. :)

I'm not telling Bucharest is ugly or something;no ;it's developing in the right direction(see pics) but you need time.

The reason is its so strange ( dont have a fals impression i purely love the building :D !!) is because the building wasnt allowed to be brang down by the City Hall and the owner of it just build the building he wanted over it :)

Hey Torn have you got to take a 100 % turn of Herastrau Park ? Started from the entrance in Arch of Triumph and all around the lake till the Baneasa Bridge that limits Herastrau Lake and Herastrau 2 Lake then back around and watch the sun go down next to the Press House really beautiful then go on the island and eat at the restaurants and maybe if you want a boat ride across the lake i can say i enjoyed those moments alot though not many firends of mine listen to me on this because they dont have a idea what theyre missing i did it by ocassion in March when the water is a bit lower i got to walk on the edge of the lake like it was a beach , the Primaverii zone is superb no doubt , i wonder why you didnt take pics of WTC just next to Press House , 2 diferent buildings one comunist , one american .
For me i`l never leave Bucharest , first because its my city , 2nd because i will never have as much fun as her in no city ever , i just love going out in University Square in the summer on the roof of National Theatre with my friends , taking a beer .
I have no reason to leave it theres no better city in this world for me i lived in Venice and New York but still i can say for me its still Bucharest .
Im happy you enjoyed the hugeness of the Parliament , the interbelic art of Victory Road the old Bucharest of Lipscani im very sorry you didnt see if you didnt it was veery close from where you stayed its where Bucharest started off hundrets of years ago .

Torn

@MCLAREN; yes, Bucharest is beautiful but I had no too many time for discover all the city. I 'll try to go there again the next year.
@KOMMANDANT, the river Dāmbovita is very narrow and when I was there the operators were cleaning it, with no water, and I didn't find it so nice for pictures.....(but you can see its banks in the 10th. picture)

Dambovita is always soacked out all summer because it rarely rains here in June-August , this summer was a bit rainier but 2000 i think it rained not even 2 days in 3 months for example .
Dambovita is a constructed river , its urban made river not navigable . Though under it there is a escape river the flows the other way its one of the 2 i know . Actually is not such a big secret as Dambovita goes underground under unirii square while the other river has a entrance at the History Museam ( situated in the same square as the old-modern building and the senate )

Bucharest has the Northen River witch takes lake shapes like Herastrau1,2 , Floreasca,Pantelimon etc etc , each lake is linked by another by a small narrow .

Nice to see new photos. Bucharest and probably the whole Romania is improving. Even less Dacias in the streets. A real Mini Buenos Aires or Rome!!! Thanks for the photos.

Less Dacia`s more Dacias Logan :) , heh Dacia is not a problem in Bucharest anymore .
I have my doubts on Buenos Aires but il have a look on South America to have a idea .
The interbelic nickname of Bucharest was Little Paris it lost it in the comunism because the comunists didnt care about other citys in the world . Now i guess at 2,5 milion people it can have its own intitulation :P .

i heard a lot of beautiful bucharest, especially from the 30's where some beautiful art deco and modern buildings were built....there once was this tv program on bbc called "dreamspaces" and they paid a visit to bucharest showing a bueaty of modernism, unfortunately the buildings were in bad condition since noone renovated them from the time they were built....maybe you have some pics of bucharest art deco? i wish i could see that

Nice city. The buildings would look nicer if the grass was cut and gardens were maintained. Bucharest will be a great tourist destination by 2010. How are the Black Sea beaches?
