Anyone playing this GREAT game?

Maybe it's not a skyscraper-wonderfull game (unthough you can build up to XX stories by editing the businesssettings.lua, the models stay the same) but it is a great competative game!

AND you can create your own skins and soforth, I did some and will post them tomorrow when I have time.

FINALLY!
With Doom 3 and Transport Giant out on the shelves this month has got to be the best in a very long time (gaming wise that is ofcourse).

I am yet to try Transport Giant but it looks VERY good, I've been missing such games ever since the classic Transport Tycoon Deluxe back in the early/mid 90's!
Fortunately, Transport Giant looks just like it, only that it's far more superior in terms of the graphics and content ;)

Info and features:
This is the year 1850. It's an age of radical change and new departures.
The era of mass production and mass transportation has just begun. The resourceful entrepreneur has plenty of opportunities. It's a time to build empires with just a little capital and a clever business idea.
New manufacturing plants are springing up everywhere. The world craves goods of every kind. Towns are growing at a breathtaking rate.
But how to get the goods to the customers? How can workers get to the plants? Who will haul the vast amounts of raw materials?
The time is ripe for a big and powerful haulage firm. Industry transportation in particular is getting out of hand and conventional methods just can't cope anymore.
Invest your little starting capital wisely, buy modern vehicles, and slowly build up a growing enterprise.
Present yourself in a favourable light to your customers, and oust your opponents from the market.
You'll need all your know-how and your skills to survive two centuries of changing economic tides and changing demands.
For a start, steam locomotives might do, but later on you'll have to replace them with monorails or even superconductor trains.

The world is your oyster - grab your chances!

- Simulation of a complex but easy-to-grasp transportation cycle,
- State-of-the-art iso graphics,
- Set-up of transport routes complete with infrastructure,
- Carriage of goods and passengers,
- Two different scenarios (Europe and USA),
- Ingenious signalling and guidance system for trains,
- Bridges and tunnels,
- Freely selectable company colour scheme for all vehicles,
- Company colours modelled on real-life railway companies,
- Over 130 vehicles (trains, monorails, superconductor trains, lorries, ships, aeroplanes and helicopters),
- Extremely long trains of up to 64 wagons,
- First appearance of a multiple traction option (i.e., more than one locomotive per train),
- Stations can be expanded at will,
- Over 60 different products and industries,
- Over 500 different buildings,
- Several campaigns for Europe and the USA,
- Ramified missions, embedded in a developing storyline,
- Numerous endless maps for Europe/USA,
- Realistic country scenarios,
- Changing seasons,
- Changing economic situations,
- Special missions and special events,
- Adjustable difficulty levels,
- Intuitive and well-tried interface

Wow it looks great. I recentley downloaded a version of transport tycoon that works on windows XP and have been playing it since. The only problem is that after so long the graphics did seem poor and it was a bit too easy. I still love the concept though and look forward to this new version :)

This is a 3D city, called Skyscraper City. It will not look like a regular city, yet a city full of every skyscraper person's dream, skyscrapers! You may design any type of skyscraper you wish, but it has to be tall, or meets the specs that are in the picture, ie. if its a mall or stadium.
These are the files types that can be sent:

-TrueSpace (.cob) Versions up to 4.0 are supported. Material properties are supported.
-VideoScape (.vsa) All versions are fully supported.
-VRML1 (.wrl) Imports all properties relevant to Bryce, including camera, light, and surface and material textures.
-LightWave (.lwo or .lws) Both objects and scenes are supported. The camera, lights, and all objects (with material information) are imported. Versions 6 and up are not supported.
-Heightfield (.hf) Used to import descriptions of heightfields (terrains).
-USGS DEM (.dem) All forms of DEM files are supported.
-USGS SDTS (.ddf) This format is the new USGS format which will replace DEM files.
-Portable Greyscale Map (.pgm) Used to import descriptions of heightfields (terrains).
-3d Studio® Objects (.3ds)
-3DMF (.3mf)
-AutoCad® (.dfx)
-Direct 3D (.x)
-Wavefront (.obj)
-WCS Elev (.elev)
-WorldToolKit® (.nff)

Please claim your real-estate, or lot number, so I can reserve it for you!

Here is the lot map, take one that isn't sold while you can!

Just see if any program you have can create a file of any file types above, then claim a piece of real-estate, a number/block from the map that is not sold, and that becomes yours! You can create a building to go there, send me the model, then i'll put it in!

I'll post up renderings of the city as it grows!

the game DOESNT have great skyscrapers or any form of developing NEW parts of a city.

next to that the city ALWAYS is the same, and only a few blocks.. it's really a MICROcity.

but then it's the best playable retail simulator ive seen; It's so much fun having your clothes store competing with your opponent clothes store on the other side of the street :)

I bought it.. it's okay, but way too easy!

I made a review for Gamespot.com, I might as well post it here too

So you think you can do it better than Trump?

The games starts you off with letting you pick either the Sandbox mode or the Build New York mode.
The sandbox gives you the entire island of Manhattan, to do what you want with - with the exceptions of the loved landmarks and parks.

It's up to you if you want competition or just play around forever in your pace. This is a nice feature but does get a bit boring in the end. Especially the ristrictions with what buildings can be in what areas is annoying, and quikly made me stop playing that mode.

The other part is the main game "Build New York". It starts you off in a small area and guides you just enough to get started. The games works by You chosing a buisness, a home or an office building and puts it in an empty area on the map. You do not decide how the buildings look - and the amount of different buildings are very limited. But you can give the buildings personality by customising it with differnt signs and upgrades.
This works fine at first, but when you have to do it to the 1000s of different buildings it quikly get's to be a boring chore.

The computer doesn't really compete with you at any time. What it does is it fills up the empty areas along with you. If you build a shop it builds a house, if you build a house it builds a shop. It never tries to compete with you, only help. This makes it's almost imposible to fail, and does leave a lot to be disired. Especially when you have the sandbox mode, incase you just want to relax.

What it all comes down to is a very easy and at times a bit boring game.
This is no way a Sim City killer, not even close. But it does give you the opotunity to create New York City the way you like - as long as you like it with a very limited amount of different buildings.

Basicy it not a bad game at all, it's visually beautiful, when you zoom in to streetlevel it really feels like New York. And the different areas does have the different personalities we love or hate.

It is fun to play Donald Trump. What drags it down is the very limited amount of options, and the very easy gameplay.

Personly I like it a lot, but I would strongly surgest playing the demo before buying it.
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/tycooncitynewyork/player_review.html?id=266816

I rarely play it anymore, but it's still greatwhen you want that special Manhattan feeling :D

I made my own imaginary city but only through sketch. Some of our buildings even look the same. Good example is that green one with one phase overlapping the other of some sort, i hope that someday i could make an animation like yours... Btw i knamed my imaginary skyscrapercity as Blue island, but it is built on my homeland Legazpi city quite like Global City on Paranaque. I would suggest Crimson tower for that building bcoz it will look crimson on sunsets... And for your i.city, i would name it Goldbay or Skycity..
That building (green one) looks like the 7 star burj hotel in Dubai, and the tallest bldg, (dominating the skyline) looks like the tallest building of Los Angeles, the row of 5 look alike buildins seem to be the red version of a Hongkong row of 5 buildings disarranged... And also that building where the top part is bigger than the bottom looks just like a building in New Jersey... And finally, the short building w/ dark blue color looks quite like the bldg in davao... It's quite funny to think like that.
So, Goldbay or Skycity, it's up to you...

However, living in the US, having experienced the calamaties of tall buildings like in New York City, the train attack in Spain, you can understand the devestation that it would bring upon it's people who live and work there particularly in these uncertain times. Not even Muslums are safe. With Peace we can let our minds sore and start a new golden age. It is a shame that the world does not spend the same energy towards peace!

Amazing!

:okay:

And did work out a bit?:)

Wow.. that's really awesome stuff. Your transportation networks weave so well together. How long did it take you to make that? Are you a city planner by chance?

Thanks, I made it in kind of fases, I think all different fases combined makes about a 1 1/2 years of drawing. I always wanted to be a cityplanner, did some schools but unfortunately dropped out early for various reasons.

Amazing!

Ah you've studied it properly:) Dalfen was in history the playground for the royal family like Versailles for Paris was. It used to be a quiet little city because all the lands surrounding Dalfen were owned by the king.
In the early 1850's, The king sold his land around Dalfen and mostly richer people fleed the smelly big city and moved to a new big house in this once quiet little town.

It's now the richest city in the district.

Indeed my tallest is an inspiration of library tower and exportbank plaza in makati. Its acutally one of my earliest designs even have a actual model of it. The condos there is a fusion of honkong towers and a more colorful ala tropical motif design

This city has a lot of space left

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l296/thegreat184/ciudadutopia38.jpg

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l296/thegreat184/ciudadutopia35.jpg

Indeed i haven't even used 25% of the lots available. My latest addition will be a board walk spanning the coastal side of the city

Good job dude!

Hey since youre good in designing a city, why dont you try designing a new city in NAIA. Let's just say there's a dream being drawn and wished.

Here's the idea, NAIA will be replaced by a new commercial district like what the Philippines did before in Makati (RP's 1st int'l airport was located at makati, called "Nielson Airport", and makati ave and pasay rd was used to be the 2 runways.).

Try this:

1. Freeways with north, south, east and west bound. Crossing the city with an interchange connecting SLEX at the south bound, C5 at east & extending it to the west bound as well, and a new super highway at the north bound crossing downtown manila connecting to the NLEX.

2. T1 being replaced by a new Hospital, or a police/fire staions, or perhaps the new NBI headquarters.
3. T2 being replaced by a new college/school perhaps.
4. T3 being replaced by a new central station for all buses, and trains/LRT, with a mall connected to it.
5. The rest are all of your imaginations.

:)

you really gotta play around with it alot...
just from the top of my head, some really primitive buildings...try making a cube...make it the size of a floorslab (about x20 y5 z20..or something) and then choose the multi-replicate tool and set the y offset to around 5....then make one huge cube for the windows

Ahh! But we are designing a completely new city in a location of our choice. Our city governments are very inept so we will show them how work is done. The project can and will work since I have the photoshop skills to make it happen. I just need to learn how to make renders.

Yeah, what about Gwadar Simcity?

It did not work out because of the difficulty I had with terrain.

That's very ambitious of you. To make renders, you need more than simply photoshop. Photoshop can be used to aid in making textures. To make good renders, you would need 3ds Max or some other 3D editor with rendering capabilities.

Seems you are asking for help. If you have any of your own building designs, I could mesh them up and render them for you.

This will definitely be a project to watch. What kind of participation are you looking for?

How far into development planning are you? What is the overall theme we are looking at?

We need some baselines to go off of. Jut as Washington D.C. was planned out, we should have at least a city layout. Then we need to identify what we woul like to include in this city. Perhaps if enough people get involved with the project and are given a specific 'fictitious land plot' with what planned use the plot has, they can come up with a building for that particular area.

I have a multitude of concepts and ideas that I am working on as well as this is an area that has always fascinated me

Ive got an idea... which those with too much spare time on their hands (well..) can participate in, if this idea materialized, ofcourse...

Now the idea being that some moderator or someone picks a site, provides a couple of details of the area...

And our goal? To design something to that location :) Basically a architecture tender :)

Any takers?

1. Takes place over one month to allow people to take their time
2. Although quality of design is important, its a balance of concept and design
Integrating google earth and sketchup might help. Although I will provide images of the site and as much information as I can you are free to use what you think is best.
3. No open public voting. I think three to ten people from various parts of the world will be selected and form a "judging pane". They will also ensure that various projects from around the world are include.
4. The design will need to include a MAX of 1 page to allow you to explain the concept.
5. Ideally you work on your own and are referred to by your "consortium" or architecture firm name. This is the same name you use to register before the comp.
6. It may not start out this year but if 10 designs are entered, this may be shortlisted to five etc.
7. Each design comp will have a different scoring breakdown.
8. Not all designs will be start from scratch. Some competitions might ask for a roof to be added to a stadium. An upgrade of a building or simply a masterplan concept.

You guys are free to add more. Will open a thread to measure the interest soon. Basically you get to "Register" your company name.

I will not be entering, instead running the comp along with the selected judging panel.

Well once we see what the interest is. From there a project will be made available along with a resource pack.

The resource pack will consists of a pdf file of links to information and images etc.

The aim is not to flood threads with images but to provide the links to all information.

Once we know what sort of interest there will be, then we can form a judging panel from each contintent (ideally). At the same time a breakdown of the scoring criteria will be released.

The aim is to keep things simple but to keep the creative juice flowing.
Of course a short project brief will be included with the resource pack so that you know what we are looking for.

Here are some pictures. I've started a new city where I can build a nice kind of skyline. The first picture is an old building in an old city. It wasn't build yet so I made it with paint;

This next picture is from my new city. The buildings are not ready and not al the lots are being build. Because I have Windows Vista The Sims 2 doesn't work quit well. But that is going to be fixed. This picture is from my new city;

http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/2206/screenshotrd3.png

The next picture is a construction update, because al the building aren't done yet. One building is almost ready, it has 13 floors. In this picture there are also 3 of the 4 buildings being build that are going to be around 20 flours;

http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/8365/screenqx5.png

In the next picture you can see al the buildings being build and the other lots. The 3 buildings with one lot in front are going to be the highest buildings in MeerStad with, from left to right, 19 floors, 20 floors, 18 floors. The other line in the back from left to right, 10 floors, I don't know how many floors, 13 floors, 13 floors and 10 floors, I don't know how many floors, yet;

Ok guys sorry been away, one more week of advertizing..please get the message out there!

ive decided on the first project which can be simple but also not simple at all
this is very informal but a more formal "resource pack" will be attached.

The first project will be an olympic aquatic centre, def cheesy, but i think its a good start to allow everyone a chance to sort of display their style of design. Of course the site and location etc. will all be included in the resource pack.

will create a pdf in a few days time along with timelines..again going to really try and keep it simple and at the same time realistic.

i have three additional judges in mind, one of them has worked on an olympic aquatic centre before.

I'm building this buildings with windows and colors but if I build any higher than 9 floors it's going to be ugly, because the floors are disapering. My new project is to build a boulevard along the beach with building of 9 floors and lower. Nice shops and disco's.

Here is a picture of a part of a shopping center;

It's lower than in Dubai, offcorse. It are different lots with many high buildings. Right now I have 3 lots done. It's for office space. One lot is with 3 buildings, the other with 2 and one with 6!

I was thinking of purchasing this game, has anybody bought this? It looks promising, and there seems to be a free environment build add-on, so you can actually create your own buildings, I'm thinking this is similar to the Sim City games except...better, and in a true 3d environment. If anybody has had experience with this, tell me what you thought of it!

Here are some pics (btw: I'm downloading the demo right now)

I've heard it's a truly horrible game in comparison to Simcity 4. The graphics look too cartoony and the lack of being able to zone makes the sense of control just that little less appealing. It's not exactly a fitting sequel to Simcity 4! They ought to rename this to just "Societies" and reserve the name "Simcity" for a truly good game fit enough to be a proper sequel.

Tsoman
November 30th, 2007, 07:14 PM
It seems to have too much direct control... the fun of simcity was its indirect control.

Frankfurter_Bockwurst
November 30th, 2007, 07:36 PM
its an average game :D
the camera is somewhat hard to handle!
y its vey direct..you have to crate buildings for creative people and so on, but i thinbk its not negative...its is one of the good parts....
but its not very special and got not many buildings :(

Alright, this idea is back and we have some work done on it. I have contacted a few members of SSC to help in the process. Currently, we are working on the transportation system and after that we will start zoning. Once the zoning and transportation system is complete we will need help designing buildings for the city. Once that is complete we will render 3d models of the entire city and display the plans.

Community City: A new idea of life!

http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/4439/comcitygj7.png (http://imageshack.us)

hello everyone! :)

I want to make with you a complete new city, a capitol!
And all people can help and built the city with me!

Ok, what the goals?

- Planing the city; what syl? American, Asian, Arabic or European?
- Infrastructure? Trains, subway and/or elevated railroads? Transrapid?
- An Airport?
- you know, it's a capitol, so we need the goverment buildings, how they look like? (what architecture?)
- What programs? a 3D City or like the Superpolis project? (Pixelart or 3D?)
- we can plan it with maps, paintbuildings and so on.
- finally we can make a city map or other interesting things.

I hope enough people have interesting to plan a city. :)
I can do Cinema4D, 3DsMax, Gmax and Photoshop (and Paint, lol), I hope it's enough.
But you need finally no knowledge to help us!!!
Post here your ideas!

Firstly I think most people use some form of 3D, whether it be sketchup, C4D or 3DsMax, so 3D seems the logical and personally most flexible way foward. I'm interested. I may post some concepts soon - as to architectural style, well keep your options open I say:).

Ideas....

I did this sketch this morning which is a conceptual overview for one possible way the city could be planned. Its in effect a grid orientated CBD which gradually breaks up into more random suburbs. Its encased by two beltways/ringroads rather like Beijing. The CBD is a combination of Chinese masterplanning, La Defense and American Grid layouts.

WOOOW. Really nice...amazing!!!
I hope more people give ideas in this thread.
At this moment I worked on my own ideas. :)

Edit: pingayo, Flying Dutchman, Junao and Joey131: Do you want to come in our team? We can plan it here and/or in MSN or ICQ, too (when you want and you have a messenger, please tell me (PM) when, would be really helpful).

And I think SketchUp would be the perfect program and someone or two/three peoples can render it in a other program, too.
We can make a good plan first, no problem, when something think this should be to fast or so. ;)
