The Design District, about 30 to 40 blocks north of downtown, is Miami's Square Mile of Style. It has nothing in common with the other fashionable districts in Miami -like Chic South Beach,or Classy Coral Gables, etc....but it retains an authentic charm like no other place in South Florida. It's too late for Miami's newly discovered secret , someone let the cat out of the bag and now this place is transforming into a "hot spot" ....hopefully it doesn't turn into one of Miami's cliches!

This place fills up on weekend nights, luring a young sophisticated crowd (aka yuppies)...and there are always new events and galleries openings. Every second thursday of the month there's the 40th st block party where crowds gather to see great art, exciting furnishings, with wine tastings, light hors d'ourves and live music, and over 50 participating galleries and showrooms.
If you're up for small surprises...stroll by the District.....

WOW! Great tour, streetscapeer!

I gotta tell ya, I've lived in this town most of my life but I felt like a tourist scrolling through these pics. I honestly didn't know there was this much to the design district. It's been years since I actually did anything there (saw a hilariously bizarre play there that a friend of a friend of mine was in about 10 years ago) so I guess I need to get out more.

BTW, which school is that you showed? DASH?

Again, great job!

More on Midtown Miami

The Buena Vista Yards consists of 56 acres of vacant land and is located south of N.E. 36th Street, north of 29th Street, west of N.E. 2nd Avenue, and east of North Miami Avenue.

Once finished, the project will consist of two major components: The Shops at Midtown (retail) and Midtown Miami (residential), providing approximately 600,000 square feet of retail space, 3,000 condo lofts and 350 apartment units. It will have an estimated development value of $1.2 billion and will generate an estimated 1,700 permanent jobs.

This enormous project will transform the neighborhood into a vibrant urban center and is destined to become one of the most dynamic new retail locations in South Florida.

http://barnworth.com/v3/gfx/miami1.jpg http://barnworth.com/v3/gfx/miami3.jpg

Phase I of Midtown Miami broke ground in May 2004 with a flagship 336-unit luxury condominium that was immediately sold out and with a waiting list for the upcoming residences. It is expected that Midtown Miami will be valued at approximately $835 million when fully built.

I haven't been in this area for a while but it is truly emerging as one of Miami's most dynamic neighborhoods...in fact the area always had potential even in the late 80's...do any of you remeber a club called Fire & Ice back then??

STREET, yes I checked Again TODAY ( Mon, Oct. 4th ), THIS ARIA TOWER is ON !!!, I got a chance to talk to the Developer and its only the DELAY of Hurricane JEANNE, that they had to removed the Construction Cranes starting to pound the PILINGS into the ground. He said it has a height of 200 Feet with 19 stories, TALLER than the BILTMORE HOTEL in Coral Gables, which still is the Tallest Building in CORAL GABLES. This Building will SHINE OVER THE DESIGN DISTRICT, wow I can't wait. He expects completion by LATE 2006.
