A report by Jones Lang La Salle determined that Sydney CBD office space figures were positive for the first quarter since March 2001. A net demand of 4000sqm was recorded for Sydney, while increases in Canberra numbered 22,000sqm, with sightly less in Perth and Brisbane. Jones Lang La Salle national head of leasing, Stephen Conry, said the national leasing market looks positive for the remainder of the year.
Melbournes june quarter had only 7,000sqm absorbed and is unsustainable with some 30,000sqm coming on line in Docklands. It also has 318,000sqm uc or refurbed and has only 67% pre committed.

What are the actual % figures for empty office space in Aussie CBD's? And what is the median price being offered per square meter around the place?

Just wondering because it seems that there is now a market driven by developers rather than tenants - in Brisbane at least anyway.

euwepeup, I think the crux of the story is that SYdney's CBD has been shit for 3 years because of its internat exposure and this is the 1st time its gone positive. Places like Singapore and KL are also recovering as well.
In the meantime Melb has been in a different part of the office cycle and continually been absorbing space so its not news.
Meanwhile Brisbane has been at the top of its cycle and has been shitting over everybody !!!!!!!

Yeah - from memory Brisbane had an annual absorbtion of 22,000sqm (I think). It may have changed now.

i got word last week from a city planner that the 50storey John Boyd tower approved as a resdiential tower or an office tower, will soon commence construction as an office tower!! this is the best news for Sydney. Its design is brilliant and will stand 188m!!
