SVP, aidez un forumer de Vancouver - 3 questions qui lui fera tres plaisir si elles sont repondues.
Je vous remercie beaucoup.
There is a proposal to bring French guided bus technologies to the Northeast
Sector of the Greater Vancouver area. Originally, the NES was suppose to
get a skytrain extension but because of the RAV Line that was pushed forward
because of the 2010 Olympics, funding for that line has vanished.
Translink, our transit authority, is sending a team to French cities; Lyon,
Caen and Strasbourg to check out these cheaper "rubber tyre trams". I think
such vehicles will not do much to meet the rapid transit needs of the NES
since the bottom line, those are still buses and it won't attract people out
of their cars and spur high density development in the area.
I was able to speak to the Translink Board as a delegate and informed them
of the technological disaster that is the Bombardier TVR in Nancy. Whether
they will take my speech seriously or not is beyond my control but I'm
hoping that they would at least think twice before implementing such
technology for the NES.
Another technology that they are also looking is the optically guided bus
called the Iribus Civis. Its an optically guided bus used in Rouen,
Clermont-Ferrand and recently went on service in Las Vegas. While the buses
themselves do look futuristic, I think its a poor substitute for the more
traditional light rail vehicle. Rumour has it that the vehicle is present
in Lyon but it could simply be a false rumour since Irisbus supplies the
trolley fleet of that city.
1) If the rumour is true, have you seen these guided buses or ridden in one
of them? And if those buses don't exist in Lyon, have you ever been to Rouen
or Clermont-Ferrand and perhaps ridden in those cities?
2) As I mentioned, Irisbus also supplies the trolley fleet in Lyon which is
called Chrysalis, which are virtually unguided versions of the Civis. Have
you ridden in them? If so, how are they like?
3) One weakness of the Civis is possible visual impairment. It rains 9
months a year in the Vancouver area plus we get snow. We all know Las Vegas
doesn't get much rain and snow because its in a desert. Do you happen to
know if Rouen or Clermont Ferrand has lots of rain or snow? Or are those
places fairly warm?
Je vous remercie beaucoup.
