james2390 April 5th, 2005, 06:12 AM 10/10
Very beautiful!
SoboleuS April 5th, 2005, 11:36 AM Really beautiful, in "Rate Our Architecture" it would be 10/10, but in "Rate Our Skylines" only 6/10 (some nice tall historic towers)
Medo April 6th, 2005, 07:41 AM Enchanting! 10/10
MattSal April 7th, 2005, 04:08 AM Sorry, but it's called "Rate Our Skylines", so I vote on skyline. It sucks, I give it a 4/10.
[Kees] April 7th, 2005, 09:05 AM Great city. Nice historic buildings! 9/10

TallBox April 17th, 2005, 09:01 PM i visted bruges in 2000 (maybe 2001 - can't remember). it's so small but very beautiful, so quaint - and i love the gardens in front of the main train station
carfentanyl April 18th, 2005, 07:48 PM i hate it
You already mentioned it. Three times. You must be stupid, ignorant or fucking blind saying Brugge/Bruges is ugly. OK, no scrapers, but buildings don't need to be to be beautiful.
I've never been there but I'm planning to visit very soon. Judging from all the pictures I saw, I think it's a beautiful place...
Kenwen May 1st, 2005, 08:07 PM mmmm.........where is the skyline........

cwilson758 May 2nd, 2005, 06:32 PM Brugge is gorgeous! I feel in love with the City when I was there.
Van der Rohe May 3rd, 2005, 06:06 PM this is NOT a skyline
3 or less
I'm afraid you guys are having serious language problems...
Skyline doesn't have to be made of skyscrapers (skyscraperline?)
Gothic church towers sometimes make better skylines than a group of boring boxes.

i've never thought to visit this town when i lived in Lille... and now i live in seville (spain), i've made the trip and i have to recognize that this city in really beautifull. it's a real exemple of flemish city like gent, anvers, brussels and Lille in some ways, with a really "art of life", so quiet, so respectuous... maybe a bit less than Gent lololol. and if you cross the city you can notice some beautifull (little) modern building made during brugge 2002, european capital of culture.
cwilson758 October 6th, 2005, 04:53 PM I loved Brugge when I visited. We took the train from Brussels and really enjoyed the city. From there, we went up to Oostend and walked along the sea wall. At the time, that was my first visit to the North Sea!
AMS guy October 6th, 2005, 05:24 PM Been there several times. It's a real beauty from a fairy tale.

Benonie January 2nd, 2006, 09:44 PM There are 3 high towers and several smaller towers in Brugge, the tallest is the cathedral which is 124 meter high. It was built in the middle ages, when New York was still a swamp. Brugge has got an old skyline, but it is a skyline, so 10/10 for the city ànd the skyline.
Liwwadden January 2nd, 2006, 09:51 PM I've been there a few years ago and this city is so nice and friendly that i would give it a 10, but this is 'rate the skyline' , so i'll give an 8.5 :D i'll hope you like it to

gebô January 2nd, 2008, 11:26 AM The discussion about "the skyline" of Bruges has it's own special history. Bruges used to be one of the most important cities in medieval Europe. Later, at the end of the 19th century, the city was one of the poorest... Afterwards this ment the saving of the medieval architecture in the city. During the industrial revolution, there was simply no money in the city to build big and new buildings and factories. That's the reason why Bruges still looks like a medieval city. Nowadays Bruges is once again a whealthy city, thanks to the new harbour, new industries and ... tourism.
Because of the situation in the second part of the 19th century and in the beginning of the 20th century there are no tall buildings in Bruges beside the medieval churches and now there are building regulations that prohibit new buildings higher than five stories in the inner medieval city. So Bruges will never have a "skyline" as some describe as necessary to compeed in this poll.
Only one exception was made in 2001 with the building of the new concert hall.

vank July 29th, 2008, 07:24 PM I live near Bruges, and if you looking for a skyline with highrise buildings you won't find them in Bruges.
But I believe that they are planning a policetower on the docks, I hope that the policetower is just the beginning of a masterplan for architectural highrise buildings on the docklands in Bruges.
The majour of Bruges said some weeks ago that every highrise building will destroy the charm and skyline of the city (Not true of course).
If you like historical buildings, than you must visit the city.
There are 3 worldfamous landmark towers. You can visit them it's only 5 minutes walking.
CityVibes October 10th, 2008, 04:36 PM There are 3 high towers and several smaller towers in Brugge, the tallest is the cathedral which is 124 meter high. It was built in the middle ages, when New York was still a swamp. Brugge has got an old skyline, but it is a skyline, so 10/10 for the city ànd the skyline.
That is not correct, the tower of the cathedral is 80 meters high. I think you are confusing the cathedral with the tower of the church of Our Dear Lady, wich is 122 m high and the highest in Brugge.
Ramses October 10th, 2008, 09:41 PM 10/10
Old buildings can make a more beautiful skyline than new ones, Brugge is the proof of that.

c6josh October 28th, 2009, 04:21 AM voted 5.5/10 cool architecture but no visible tall buildings in the area.
