South Africa is bidding to host the 2015 African Nations Cup.
South Africa has put in its bid to Caf to win the hosting rights of the 2015 Africa Nations Cup.
This news comes on the heels of a successful hosting of football’s biggest showpiece, the World Cup which Spain won in July. South Africa won their first and only Nations Cup crown the last time they hosted it – beating Tunisia in the 1996 finals.
According to reports from South Africa, Safa boss Kirsten Nemantandani made a request to CAF on Tuesday following a decision that was taken at a management meeting in Johannesburg which was influenced by the success of the World Cup.
“We are still enjoying the success of the World Cup and we hope it will be good for us in our bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations.“ There will be no question of infrastructure because it is here, accommodation is here. There will be no question of transport because it is here, world-class stadiums are here too. “We have everything. We are going to update the government about this development,” Nematandani is quoted as saying.
The next edition of the competition will be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea in 2012 and the following year when the tournament switches to odd numbered years will be staged in Libya.
