Classée Monument Historique le 17/11/1903 (JO n° 7 du 28/1/1968)


En 1067, EN-NASSER IBN ALLANAS prince de la Dynastie des Hammadites, choisit Bejaia (ex: Bougie) comme capitale politique, économique et culturelle.

Citadelle gouvernementale, la Casbah a été principalement édifiée par les Almohades sous le règne de Abdelmoumène vers 1 154 de notre ère. Protégée par des murs épais et très élevés, la forteresse qui s'étend sur une superficie de 20 000 m² possédait une porte unique et avait sa propre mosquée où l'illustre Ibn Khaldoun donna des cours de jurisprudence aux tolbas.

En 1510 les Espagnols sous Charles Quint...,Ferdinand V, prirent la ville au début du XVIe siècle pour mettre un terme à la piraterie qui régnait dans ces eaux. On peut lire ces inscriptions, en latin sur la porte de la Casbah:" Ferdinand V, illustre Roi d'Espagne, a enlevé par la force des armes cette ville aux perfides enfants d'Agar en l'an 1509".

Et plus tard sous Charles Quint fils du précédent:" Cette ville a été pourvue de murailles et forteresses par l'Empereur Charles Quint l'Africain, petit-fils et successeur de Ferdinand. A Dieu seul honneur et gloire !".

Charles Quint restaurera le Fort Sidi Abdelkader et fera bâtire la Casbah et le Fort Moussa qui portera plus tard, à l'arrivée des Français, le nom du général Barral.

Le rôle joué par la Casbah et dans la transmission du savoir au Moyen âge est confirmé par les séjours plus ou moins longs de personnalités scientifiques et littéraires prestigieuses, versées dans tous les domaines de la connaissance:
le métaphisicien Andalou Ibn Arabi
le mathématicien italien leonardo Fibonacci
le philosophe catalan Raymond Lulle
l'historien Maghrebin Ibn Khaldun
le Poète scilien Ibn Hamdis

Il en est de même pour les personnalités religieuses (Sidi-Bou-Medienne, Sidi Bou Sa`id, ath-Tha`aliby,...) et les voyageurs (al-Idrissi, Ibn Battuta, Léon l'africain,...).

Au moyen age...avant d'entrée à Bejaia (ex: Bougie)...on passe d'abord par Bir Eslem...on ce purifié avec l'eau du puit...ensuite on entre dans la ville.

Ibn Khaldoun n'est pas algerien, il est né dans l'actuelle Tunisie de parents Yéménites.

Oui Ibn Khaldoun est issu d'une famille noble et raffinée qui vécut dans la région de Séville (Andalousie) pendant plusieurs générations

mais L'essentiel C'est un Maghrebin et grâce a lui on connais l'histoire de l'Algérie et le Maghreb en général

Il n'est pas de parents yéménite, il a seulement retracé son ascendance généalogique jusque là-bas. Ses ancêtres de l'époque du prophète étaient (semble-t-il) originaire d'une tribu du Yemen effectivement. Par la suite, sa famille a emigré vers l'andalousie, et y a residé durant plusieurs siècles! Un turc serait plus proche chez moi qu'un yéménite chez ibn khaldoun!
