Hey guys!!! I started a thread in the Citytalk and Urban Issues forum about which city in Asia is most likely considered the Pearl of the Orient? I said it was Hong Kong because of its economy, quick way to get from rags to riches, dynamic history, and cosmopolitan feel. I also justified my answer because the British gave Hong kong the name. I'm really interested in what you guys think (especially those who live in HK.) It'd be very much appreciated if you expressed your opinions in thread in the Citytalk and Urban Issues forum.

Shanghai is widely known as Pearl of the Orient

Shanghai was named as "Paris of the Orient" before WWII,and the city don`t have any title since communist occupied in 1949.The term "Pearl of the Orient" is used to represent Hong Kong for at least 30 years, now even the official in the China central government calling Hong Kong as "Pearl of the Orient". :)

I think of HK as Asia's NY City. The cities are so similar in terms of skyline, finance, hustle bustle, mix of cultures, etc.

except hk doesnt ahve any amercian style "urban sprawl" :)

urban sprawl means a vast area of a city dominated by houses or low density housing with a really dense CBD/dwontown in the city. Cities with urban sprawl are usully quite large. :sleepy:
