Heerim Architects & Planners Co. Ltd. has prepared a design for a new skyscraper administrative office for the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan. The building is slated to be 200 meters high, around 100 000 sq. m and to accommodate more than 2,000 employees. The building will have 2 underground and 40 overground floors. Construction works are expected to start in the mid 2010.

Tekfen Construction signed a new contract of USD 235 million for the turnkey construction of SOCAR’s (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic) new headquarter complex in Baku. Starting in June 2010, the project is scheduled for completion within 32 months.

Designed by Heerim Architects form South Corea, the two towered project will rise from an elongated, canopy-like podium and snake their way skywards. Curving into each other, the seemingly shorter tower almost looks like its resting its head on the chest of the taller tower, the taller towers peak slightly bending over it in a confident, reassuring manner. The towers will have 40 floors, at a height of 200 metres. Covering an area of 12,000 square metres and providing 100.000 sqm of usage area, the headquarter will mainly house office space but will also have conference and sports facilities, a guest house and retail spaces, food outlets to keep the expected 2000 employees in the tower firing on all cylinders.

Ilham Aliyev attends ground breaking ceremony of SOCAR’s new building

The ground breaking ceremony of a new administrative building of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic was held at Heydar Aliyev’s Avenue.

According to the official website of the President of Azerbaijan, the ceremony was attended by President Ilham Aliyev. Initially, the head of state watched the video and the scheme, reflecting the building in its finished state, its sketches and models.

SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said that the new office building fully meeting the needs of the company will also comply with international standards. The building of 200 meters in height will consist of 40 above ground and 2 underground floors and cover 5 hectares of land.

The building design will be based on a composite system of steel construction with reinforced concrete walls. The project of the building, resistant to nine-magnitude earthquake by the Richter scale, was tested in special international labs in Canada in a virtual environment, designed for the wind with the speed of 190 kilometers per hour.

The building, designed by South Korean Heerim Architects & Planners Co. Ltd, based on the concept of "wind and fire”, will be built by Turkish TEKFEN İnşaat.

The head of state lowered the capsule into the foundation and poured concrete solution. President Ilham Aliyev congratulated the participants in the ceremony.

Successful excursion to 'SOCAR Tower'

On 15 September 2011 Caspian Engineers Society ( CES) was organized excursion to SOCAR Tower’s construction field. Firstly, experts from SOCAR, Tekfen, Heerim Architects & Planners Co companies gave a presentation about general information of Tower to students. It’s been presented that design of the SOCAR building is being firstly used in the region which is the composition of “fire” and “wind”. This includes Damper system, Automatic Facade Cleaning system, Twin Elevator system, etc. Explanations about each system were given by specialists separately. After presentation, questions of students were answered by the presenters.

Then excursion was carried out to the construction area of building. Students got familiar with the modern technologies implemented in this project, provided information about the working principles of each machine under direction of expert engineers, it’s indicated that equipments in use made in Germany with application of latest technology, that mainly for eliminating problems of piling drilling device.

Approximately, 40 students from local and foreign universities, such as Khazar, Qafqaz, Azerbaijan Technical University, METU attended the excursion with interest. Also young engineers from different companies and experts from SOCAR took part in this excursion.
