Turkmenistan upgrades estimates of gas reserves of South Yoloten field
On the completion of the regular phase of exploration work by specialists of the State Concern "Turkmengeologiya" at Southern Yoloten - Osman fields, there was obtained new geological and geophysical data, in accordance with which the estimate of reserves of these deposits has been upgraded to more than 21 trillion cu. m. of gas.
As the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports quoting the State Concern "Turkmengeologiya", new studies have allowed geologists to make a more accurate estimate of the resource potential of the field, which in 2008 was estimated at 14 trillion. cu. m. of gas by independent experts of British company "Gaffney, Cline & Associates."
To fully clarify estimates of the geological structure of Yoloten, Minar, the south-western and north-western part of this group of fields, to finalize estimates of its oil and gas resource potential, as well as to prepare the optimal solutions for their development extra seismic and geological exploration drilling will be needed, the State Concern said.
The State Concern "Turkmengaz" together with foreign companies from China, Korea and the UAE, who are under the service contracts, is currently implementing the project for development of South Yoloten field totaling nearly US $ 10 billion.http://www.turkmenistan.ru/?page_id=3&lang_id=en&elem_id=18174&type=event&sort=date_desc
Oil pools with high-flow rate discovered at Barsagelmes field
Specialists of the State Concern "Turkmennebit" (Turkmenneft) discovered promising oil pools during the exploration activities at Barsagelmes field in Balkan province. Turkmenistan guarantees gas, Pakistan security for trans-Afghan pipeline
ASHGABAT, November 14 (Itar-Tass) -- Turkmenistan guarantees gas and Pakistan pledges security of the prospective trans-Afghan pipeline TAPI (Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India).
The promises were made at the eighth meeting of the TAPI working group, which ended in Ashgabat on Friday. The Pakistani delegation presented an action plan, which would keep safe the future gas pipeline. All the four partner states attended the meeting together with a delegation of the Asian Development Bank that sponsors the project, the Turkmen government press office said.
The largest gas deposit in Turkmenistan, South Yolotan, will be the source of raw materials for the prospected facility. Deposit reserves were certified in 2008 by a British company and presented by Turkmenistan at the eleventh meeting of the pipeline managing committee in September 2010.
Ashgabat said in October that the appraised reserves grew from 14 to 21 trillion cubic meters in a survey done by Turkmen geologists.
The working group coordinated drafts of an intergovernmental agreement on TAPI project, a framework agreement on the gas pipeline and gas contracts with Turkmenistan. The documents will be presented for signing at the summit of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India due in Ashgabat in December 2010.
There will be one more meeting of the working group and the 12th meeting of the TAPI managing committee before the summit.
The negotiations have been on for over 15 years. The pipeline cost is estimated at up to $7.6 billion. The pipeline will have the annual capacity of 33 billion cubic meters. http://www.itar-tass.com/eng/level2.html?NewsID=15681010&PageNum=0

Iran, Turkmenistan inaugurate gas pipeline
TEHRAN — Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov inaugurated on Sunday the last section of a pipeline to export Turkmen gas to northeast Iran, media reported.
The leaders inaugurated the final half of the 1,000-kilometre (620 miles) pipeline which links Tehran to Khangiran refinery near the northeastern Iranian town of Sarakhs, said the official IRNA news agency and state television.
The pipeline has a daily capacity of 58 million cubic metres or more than 20 billion cubic metres per year, Iran's deputy oil minister, Javad Owji, said ahead of the ceremony.
Despite having the second largest gas reserves in the world, Iran's own production of 600 million cubic metres per day barely meets domestic consumption.
Iran, which injects gas into oil wells to better exploit its oil reserves, also imports about 20 million cubic metres of Turkmen gas per day and exports about the same to neighbouring Turkey.
With an overall cost of 1.2 billion dollars, the Sarakhs-Tehran pipeline extends a cross-border pipeline launched in January between Turkmenistan's Dovletabad gas field and Iran's Khangiran refinery.
The cross-border pipeline between Iran and Turkmenistan has an annual capacity of six billion cubic metres or 16 million cubic metres per day which is expected to eventually double to an annual 12 billion.
Since 1997 Iran has also imported Turkmen gas via another pipeline with the capacity of eight billion cubic metres per year linking the Turkmen field of Korpedje on the Caspian sea to the northern Iranian town of Kord-Kuy.
Iran's gas imports from Turkmenistan are expected to reach 40 million cubic metres a day (about 14 billion cubic metres per year) this winter, Owji said in June.
The Sarakhs-Tehran pipeline would also allow Iran to become a regional "gas hub," by increasing its gas swap capacity with neighbours and having Central Asian gas transit through its territory to Europe, Owji was quoted as saying Sunday by Iran's English-language Press TV.http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hHnRHcAkGrTPI6uyTQrjzOO-z6DQ?docId=CNG.caa947eb1ef1c68668f8ac4bd71f5355.81

Platforms to lift Turkmen development tempo
ASHKABAT, Turkmenistan -- The first of two new wellhead/production platforms under construction for the Cheleken Contract Area fields in the Caspian Sea should be completed late this year, according to operator Dragon Oil.
The Dzheitune (Lam) C platform will support a jackup rig and will have up to eight slots for drilling. It will be installed in the western part of the Dzheitune (Lam) field between the Dzheitune (Lam) B and 29 platforms. Drilling will target reserves beyond the reach of the existing platforms.
Early in 2012, the Dzhygalybeg (Zhdanov) A platform should be completed, and this will be placed in the eastern part of the Dzhygalybeg (Zhdanov) field, with a bridge link to an accommodation platform. At least eight wells will be drilled from this facility, which will be able to support both a land rig and a jackup.
Dragon has also commissioned a new 100-metric ton (110-ton) floating crane vessel, scheduled for delivery in 4Q 2011. It will support the company’s ongoing drilling and infrastructure projects.
And the company has initiated a front-end engineering and design study to provide a template for further construction of platforms in the Cheleken Contract Area. This will serve to improve and standardize Dragon’s platform design, to optimize drilling, and to reduce platform construction costs.
Dragon has further plans to perform dredging in the area of the Aladja jetty onshore Turkmenistan, the aim being to enhance the operational and crude loading capacity. http://www.pennenergy.com/index/petroleum/display/2971858285/articles/offshore/field-development/oilfield-development-caspian-sea/2011/January/platforms-to_lift.html

Turkmen export to Russia
Turkmenistan is ready to increase its level of gas being exported to Russia, stated the Turkmen Minister of Oil and Gas Industry. Until 2009, when Turkmenistan started supplying China with natural gas, it exported this product primarily to Russia who would then sell it on to Ukraine and other European markets. This year it is planned for Turkmenistan to export to Russia no less than 10 bln cubic meters of natural gas. The analysts paid attention to the fact that this announcement was made after decision of NABUCCO shareholders to delay the implementation of this project. It is significant that the European Parliament has also recently refused to sign the document on cooperating with Turkmenistan because of human rights violations within the country. This is probably why the Turkmen arrived at the decision to increase the volume of cooperation with Russia.http://www.messenger.com.ge/issues/2370_june_6_2011/2370_econ_three.html
