City population (2004): 450,000 (96 sq mi)
Metro Population (CSA, 2004): 2,100,000
California's fourth largest metropolitan area. First incorporated city in CA, and largest northernmost city in the state. Birthplace of the California Gold Rush when gold was discovered 20 miles east of downtown in the Sierra Nevada foothills (Coloma) in 1848. Was also the western terminus of the Pony Express, Wells Fargo and the first transcontinental railroad.

Nick in Atlanta August 4th, 2004, 12:53 AM 5/10 for the skyscrapers, but I think the city is very pretty with the snow-capped mountains in the background. As I'm sure your'e aware, Sacramento is one of the fastest growing cities in the US. I'm sure we can expect a lot more growth downtown.
P.S. How are the housing prices when compared to other California cities, especially the coastal ones?
Kaneda August 4th, 2004, 01:27 AM 5.5/10 Allrigth, not nothing really good.
What that big flat pyramid shaped thing ?
Rapid August 4th, 2004, 05:52 AM Im going for a quick visit there in September, It would help if more pictures were working. Ill vote when I come back.
SacTown Andy August 7th, 2004, 01:58 AM What that big flat pyramid shaped thing ?
That's actually an office building known locally as the "Ziggurat". It used to be the regional HQ for the Money Store before they went under and now houses state government offices. It was actually the first building in the United States designed and built completely using the principles of Feng Shui. It's usually completely lit up at night and is very unique looking right on the banks of the Sacramento River:

Compared to much of coastal California, Sacramento is still considered a "bargain". (Thus, the continuing mass influx of former Bay Areans and Angelinos). Being only about an hour NE from San Francisco, many are willing to trade a longer commute for a bigger house. Though times are quickly changing. The current Sacramento housing market cannot build enough homes to meet current demand, thus quickly rising prices and lot values. I believe the average home has appreciated an average of 36% in the last year alone.
And when I say "bargain" please keep in mind that is by California's rediculously high and over-inflated standards. The "bargain" median home price in the Sacramento area is now well over $400,000 USD.
SeeMacau August 9th, 2004, 07:04 AM The skyline is not bad for it's size ... 8/10
Fabio January 26th, 2005, 12:54 AM 6.5/10
looks ok
hauntedheadnc January 27th, 2005, 12:55 AM Rather pleasing, and Sacramento can especially be proud of its lovely capitol building and of the "Ziggurat." I give Sacramento an 8.
Blahb January 27th, 2005, 01:17 AM 7.5.
Can't see much in the pictures, but from what I've seen of it, it looks good!
BHK25 January 27th, 2005, 02:51 PM Looks nice and quiet. I kinda like that flat piramid shaped building, especially on that last picture. 6.0
GUTO4EVER January 27th, 2005, 03:50 PM The last building is very interesting...
B@dGuYoM January 27th, 2005, 03:53 PM 6/10
mic January 27th, 2005, 03:55 PM yer what can you say 5/10
MuddyZehbra32 January 29th, 2005, 08:55 PM Actually the skyline "is" pretty bad for its size whover said it wasn't...Sacramento is a pretty decent sized city (as of now lately), granite these pictures do it little justice but still I'm suprised this city looks the same it did 4 years ago...
Imperfect Ending January 29th, 2005, 11:11 PM 7/10
for my state capital
SoboleuS March 26th, 2005, 05:12 PM Surprisingly boring skyline :sly: I was expecting something more from California capital ;) 6/10
MattSal March 26th, 2005, 05:19 PM A lot nicer than I would have expected it to be. I give it a 6.5/10. :okay:
Darrell March 26th, 2005, 08:20 PM Pretty setting. Dismal skyline for the size of the metro area. Sacremento metro is at or near 2 million and cities with half the population, such as Hartford and Austin, have better skylines. It's the capital of our largest state. Should be a lot better.
4/10

Because it has grown so fast, I would think that the downtown area is lagging behind the population. Like I said earlier, give it time and I think it will be a great downtown, IMHO.
Do the Bradfords still live in Sacramento? Actually, on a serious note, does the Arnold live in Sacramento or just commute back and forth to Maahreeeaaahhh and the kids in LA? Probably flies one of his planes up for the work week.

Austin is growing faster than SacTown and its skyline is keeping up. weak argument.
Jaybird March 27th, 2005, 12:56 AM 6/10, I'm kinda disappointed with its skyline for some reason. Probably because it's California's capital or something. I think the metro area could be part of it as well. Probably a nice city, though.
Gladys8it March 31st, 2005, 01:31 AM I really like Sacramento. It has such beautiful trees and neighborhoods. The areas around the River are very quaint and interesting. Sacramento is a great town!! :)
Cheers!! :)
Yankee BOY March 31st, 2005, 01:46 AM I used to live there 8 years of my life..I miss it so much..great people..great weather..had the time of my life when living there.
james2390 April 5th, 2005, 06:59 AM Sac-town has quite a nice skyline with some good sized buildings.
8/10
UZWEEM April 18th, 2005, 11:56 PM These pictures don't do Sacramento justice. If I weren't such a newbie, I'd figure out how to post some better photos of SacTown. Anyway, Sacramento is a very nice city with lots of potential. Right now, I'd give it's skyline an 8. It just needs some better photos...

Austin's metro is about 1.4 million, so Sacramento isn't twice as large. Also, the city of Sacramento itself is only about 430,000, while Austin is at around 660,000 (2004 census figures). So it would make sense that Austin's downtown would be more built up, in that respect.
ltsmotorsport July 27th, 2005, 08:50 PM Wow, I havn't seen some of the pics posted above before. Some really good photography there.
ltsmotorsport July 27th, 2005, 08:58 PM Thought I'd add these to the thread that wasn't closed.

sbarn July 27th, 2005, 10:48 PM Some local Sacramento projects. I think the skyline will look significantly different in 10 years.

Kerfloozles July 27th, 2005, 11:52 PM Yeah, and I really like the 621 Capitol Mall building. Their website is pretty sweet.
Kerfloozles July 28th, 2005, 12:00 AM Oh, and I'm pretty new here. What does it mean when a thread is "closed", and what is it that makes it closed?
ltsmotorsport July 28th, 2005, 12:25 AM Your's was a duplicate because this one already existed so an administrator closed it. No one can post on it so it will eventually fall into obscurity.
Kerfloozles July 28th, 2005, 12:35 AM Aaaah, sweet. Yeah, I searched around before posting it, but wasn't able to find it. This one's better anyway.
SacTown Andy July 28th, 2005, 08:28 PM Like many have said before, anyone who's been following Sacramento developments over the last few months knows that the city is about to explode vertically. Numerous highrise proposals - both office and residential - will dramatically change the skyline in the next 2-5 years.
Highrises ranging from 150 feet (Marriott) to the 450-500 foot range (Parthenon, 701 L, Aura) and even three new towers exceeding 600 feet (Towers on Capitol Mall and Epic) are all moving through the development process as we speak. As well as thousands of residential units of mid-rise urban infill throughout the central city.
In terms of population, job growth, culture and entertainment, rapid transit and skyline, Sacramento is definitely the city to watch over the next few years.
UZWEEM July 28th, 2005, 08:50 PM There are now two Sacramento threads under the "Rate Our Skylines chart". Someone should probably remove the closed Sacramento thread so that people who want to rate Sacramento won't get discouraged when they come across that closed thread. They might not realize that there is still an open thread on the list and just skip rating Sacramento altogether.
ltsmotorsport July 28th, 2005, 08:56 PM Eh, let them skip it for now. They can come back in a few years and rate it, if you know what I mean.
