Very nice! :okay:

Anymore?

The first two pictures are not really shophouses.
They're row buildings.Like Ogilvy Centre.

I am really sure those are not row buildings.....those are shophouses ;)

Some shophouses in KL (like the first picture) have rich owners building em in 3s and then they rent out all 3 individual units to different tenants. All 3 shophouses are seperate entity ;)

The McDonald's shophouse in the second picture is actually a corner unit so it looks like a row building but in actual fact it is a shophouse. It is actually not that big but just that it is fronting Central Market and a busy street making it looks grand and big :)

I dun really have any colonial row building pictures here but I could name a few (which people might mistaken them for shophouses) :

- Straits Building
- Chow Kit Building
- HSBC Building (demolished in the 70s)

Ah ... shophouses! :)

I first became familiar with the term "shophouse" in the Singapore forum. There are quite a few that have survived there, and they are sooooo beautiful!

I did not know that Malaysia also has shophouses, although I don't see why not. ;) Somehow the shophouse buildings I've seen in this thread so far look quite different from those in Singapore ... again I don't see why not, because after all they have every right to be different, no?

I am warmly hoping that the shophouses in last picture of baq's opening post will be restored ... they look so sad and abandoned! :angel1:

Nice pix of KL's shophouses... I always pass by the Lebuh Pasar-Central Market area when going to the Sultan Ismail precinct but yet never seem to be able to appreciate these heritage buildings...

Btw, what's the difference between row building and shophouse? Getting quite confused here...

Actually it is not called the Boom Boom Club but it is the Boom Boom Room ;)

It is the most happening club in the early 90s - like the Zouk and Beach Club of today's KL. It was closed in the late 90s. Now this building is empty and that is why it is not restore or anything. :(

The 'shophouse' facade in front of Bintang Warisan hotel is fake. There is not even any shophouse there bofore the construction of the hotel. I believe they did the fake shophouse facade to make the hotel sellable as an exotic hotel hehehe ;)

baqthier

Originally that row got shophouses lah but now mostly converted into others. I think somewhere oppossite BB Plaza's entrance is where the original facades are..i think left only 4 lots. But the warisan one got some facelift into a more kampung look lor.

Nope.....I personally saw the construction of the hotel when I frequented BB during my teenage years. There are no shophouse WHERE THE HOTEL NOW STANDS. I did not say BB got no shophouselah so no need to explain lah :bash:

In fact the most impressive of shophouses there is opposite KFC. It is now a miserable carpark after they torn down the whole thing

Or else BB could be a much much better place ....more aesthetically pleasing ;)

The shophouse frontage integrated with a modern development is quite popular in Singapore hotels.

I believe you saw some as you drove past Balestier Rd at night while you were in Singapore :)
