High guys, i started this thread so you can post photos and info about schools in iran so we can get a feel of the atmosphere of how schools are (unfortunentaly i dont think they are very good, in various reasons).

also, it would be nice if you post info and photos of schools underconstruction and or being planned.

Depends on the school. I personally had the best primary school experience, great teachers, friends, leisure and food (Koobideh for lunch!).

Most private schools are sucky now, only a few good ones, top public schools are on the rise however.

As Shapoor said it really depends on the school. There are very good ones, but also bad ones. There are some with quite big area and some just converted from a house to a school. The sad thing is that nearly all schools get money (public schools) from people to let the pupil get into the school. It's actually not allowed, but unfortunately in recent times especially just money talks or pupils with extra high grade are accepted (like above 19/19,50).

Yeah I noticed the same thing, I just didn't want to comment on the way the girls in the video looked lol.. I have no idea, but girls in Iran who have not finished school yet are not usually very attractive. It's not just school girls in this video.

I have read some studies which say like over half of Iranian teenagers have thought of killing themselves. Apart from the Islamic laws, I think maybe the setup of the schools might even play a role in why so many of Iranian teenagers are depressed. I am not surprised when you look at the way the schools look!! And I doubt they pay much attention to sports or other courses that can make one happier or more mentally stable and sane.

Schools in Iran aren't perfect, as I mentioned there are many big problems. But school can't really be a reason for the youth to think about suicide. I mean there are far more and bigger reasons behind this. Which I think is because of the strict rules of the government that even goes into the personal lifes of the people.

i mean schools are different, for example ive seen pics and videos of my cousins school (boy) and its pretty normal and the teachers are relaxed and funny etc. but ive seen girls schools where they all dress like potato bags and sit in a class with these old witch lookin teachers it makes no sense to me.

and yea irans schools are far to "conservative" i mean even in highschool they practically force the students to learn and get good grades. it shouldnt be like that, the teacher should only come and teach and not care about what the student does after school. they try to discipline the student not teach them academicaly, that method is good for primary grades but not in older grades .

the atmosphere in my opinion is a very simple (in a bad way) and closed atmosphere where books and study is the only thing. i doubt that schools have a proper sports council and have teams that play other schools. like thats something essential for a school. and the educational system isnt bad but they should cut the amount of tests and pop in more assignents and essays and arrticles. everything depending on tests is like from 1920s. and also, students should have a larger choice and chose each of their subjects when in highschool so they have various compulsury courses and some that the other that they choose, as they proceed to higher grades, they cut the number of complusury courses and they have more of a choice, so it seems more like a university. university style is also how the schools should be more like.

and about like other stuff like girls and boys, its all dependant on the gvrnment but anyway it should be mixed (and they should have some separate schools for people that dont like mix). and they should let the students be more free, in many things, from going outof school property in lunch times and dressing ..........

but again all these are dependant on the beloved govornment LOL

Iran's 1st IT primary school(1 pc for 1 each student) is in Tabriz,but the cost is about 3million toman which is abit expensive

one of the good things about Iran's educational system is that Iranian student have always or most of the time very high grades and also Tehran university is amongst the top 500 universities in the world, to be honest I never saw smarter kids than Iranians :)

Iranians are smart,but the school system is really boring and unstandard.I would say iranian's talents get WASTED in iran's schools.

yeah but that has to do with Iran's bad economy and job market, but like the best doctors and sientist people of the world are almost all Iranian, yeah but on the other hand maybe if school wasn't boring students wouldn't had such a great grades...
also the current situation in Iran pushes people to study harder and to have good grades so that they can go eventually to a good university and get a good job, some of them are lucky others aren't, let's hope Iran's economy gets better so that people can get more jobs.

thats exactly what im saying, the system is old and is still based onn the cram 23048234 pages into your head. iranians are smart but we can make ourselves 423984 times smarter with a proper system

yeah ofcourse I never been to any of those Iranian school so I don't know the situation, but like the pressure helps students to gain better grades, anyway I might be wrong..

The pressure you're talking about is not only in Iran, so it can't really be the problem of educational system. Sure, the pressure could be a bit less, but learn-pressure in schools is really needed, unless pupils wouldn't learn that much.
The bad thing about the concour is that you have to learn one year for 1 day! If you're somehow ill, tired or even simply not so well at that day, then it can destroy your future. Therefore teh stress-factor is somehow high. But this is getting better, since the grades from grade (10 &) 11 are also counted for 10% more every year. So after this, you haven't such a high pressure. All people want to go to dollati, but if you're not accepted there you can go to Azad univesity! The worst one is Payam-e-Noor, which is still a university. So, you always get the chance to study.
The pressure isn't as high as many might think.

I forgot to add,students study harder,get better grades.but in useless theory-only lessons.

that is something like a test to see how it goes and the price is for limiting the people who can attend it.if it was cheaper then everyone would want to go there.it shouldnt cost so much,pc would cost 1million toman but the children arent gonna buy them,they will use them for a year and then lend it over to the other students.if they take good care each pc could atleast work for 5years.

^^Very disappointing that only pupils from rich famies can attend this school. A pc for every pupil isn't so much needed I think... . Anyhow, I hope it goes well

any ideas on mixing schools?? to be honest mixing schools in iran can lead to solving many of our social issues, in a very simple manner, hamin masaele ehteram gozashtan be jense ruberu (ehteram ke mizaran valy hame jaha na), and allowing people to grow more socialy secure when they are used to being mixed.

my opinion, if there was an option of mixing schools in iran (lets not consider islamic revolution), i would have smaller grades mix first and then year by year add another grade to the "mixed system", so after a few years the new generation is all in mixed schools. and alll grades should be mixed from 1-12. also, for the more conservative famillies, there should also be segregated schools, so its fair for them two

for example, out of every 10 schools, 6 are mixed and 2 are girls schools and 2 boys. although this can vary dependant on the needs of the population in that specific area,

I went to Marjan High School (fekr konam esmesh shod Lalehaye Enghelab, bad az enghelab) in Tehran and graduated in 1980. It is located on Pahlavi street, one street north of Foroshgahe Korosh.

Keeping the wheels of education spinning; students sing joyfully as their new school building is opened. This is only one out of dozens of schools (http://www.presstv.ir/detail/225838.html#) built by generous donors in Iran every year. This intermediate girl’s school is one example. It has been demolished and built from scratch by Ali Zargar Kashani who spent nearly two million dollars of his own money on the project.

Donating to build a school is traditionally regarded as a sacred act in Iran and those who take part in it are very much respected by the people. Today the Society of benevolent school builders helps build or renovate schools along with Iran's state organization of schools renovation and development.
Official figures put the number of students (http://www.presstv.ir/detail/225838.html#) in Iran at above 12 million. Figures show that during the past three decades some 24000 schools have been built by Iranian donors. Makeshift schools can still be seen in some parts of Iran despite efforts by both the government and donors. Aging school buildings and lack of enough classrooms still remain as challenges ahead of Iran's education ministry.
Iran’s education ministry says that such donations are multiplying every year. Only during 2011 the people’s contribution to school building has been more than 200 million dollars. The government itself has allocated more than 4 billion dollars during the past five years to build and reconstruct schools across Iran.

Rural areas etc have very poor learning facilities, they need to focus on building them there, around 20% of Iran's population is still analphabetic so yeah..

According to the UN Human Development Index 2011 around 80-90% of Iran's population is literate so yeah, something around that..

i would say it is less than 10 % today.

Education has been of prime importance to Iranians across the ages. Clay tablets dating back to the Achemaenid era have been discovered bearing marks made by elementary school students some 2500 years ago.

However Iran's modern educational curriculum was compiled back in 1888. Before that there was an elementary system of education called Dar al-Funoun that fell short of expectations by today's standards.

Last year when i was in Iran i read my little cousin's schoolbook (she is 6 years old) and when i saw the content i just wanted to cry and laugh at the same time. They had written "The Islamic Revolution brought freedom blah blah blah" i literally wanted to tear out the page and torch it on fire, seriously.

All it did was to destroy a nation otherwise so rich in every aspect, and just like you said, "to please the mullahs". :ohno:

some nice schools in esfahan, this is how they should be like, the 70s style brick thing is really suitable for schools, it gives such a nice feel, but they need to be a bit bigger , i think one major highschool that can hold 2000-3000 kids in one area is better than 4 that can hold 500, and green space and trees are certainly needed, instead of this fenced/walled asphalt field i wish they could open up highshcools like the university style and have them be free or atleast have a low , gate type of thing rather than walls like this (which should be standard for elementary schools) , but whatever for now

I'm pretty sure those Apple laptops are owned by the children, seems like all the kids brought their own personal laptops to class. But the dell desktops in the classrooms is pretty surprising!

Iran to build 480,000 classrooms for the poor

TEHRAN, Feb. 19 (MNA) – Head of School Renovation Organization of Iran says this organization has built 480,000 classrooms to replace portable classroom settings.

Morteza Raeisi said that complete elimination of portable school classrooms has been in our agenda, and we have replaced these portable classrooms with building new schools, or pre-built school classrooms.

In an interview to Mehr News, he said there have been enough funding provided for the School Renovation Organization, and so far, the Organization has replaced 1,200 portable school classrooms across the country.

He also emphasized that the number of portable school classrooms approaches zero and said: “if there are a few portable classrooms left in some areas of the country, is due to the migration of these people and the mobile-style of their living, and thus they are forced to hold single (http://www.iranmilitaryforum.net/science-and-technology/iran-to-build-480-000-classrooms-for-the-poor/#) class-room style out there.”

Forgive me if this is not allowed. I've a request to make. Has anybody here a recent photo of Merat High School in Tehran? I'm a direct descendant of the school namesake.

I lived in Tehran for a year as a teenager in the mid-1970s (attended Community School which was shuttered in 1979) but never got to see Merat High School. Here in the U.S., I've run into former students of the place but that was some 30 years ago.
