I just started playing sim city 4 and no matter how many times it try I can never build a high density residential building. does anyone have advice that would help me to gain the demand for them?

Haha I am playing too! I think sc4 is really harder than sc2&3. I took a while to develop a high density residential building too. But the biggest problem is money. And because a high density res building can live a lot number of people, more industy and comm. zones are required to provide jobs. So I prefer a high density res zone with jobs around, and some parks. You can see the demands of different kinds of zones by clicking on the ind com res bars. It will show the demands of low, medium, high density of ind, com, res. Hope helps~

You need water, at least 30,000 residents in the whole region, and pretty good demand (enough jobs to handle a big swing in population.) Bunny is right though, it's good to have plenty of jobs and parks nearby.
