View Full Version : Basilica de Nuestra Seņora del Pilar | Zaragoza, Spain
Matthieu August 8th, 2004, 12:29 AM This is a Baroque church, built in the 18th century. It's a very nice church and I enjoyed visiting it. I don't know much about its history. Some works inside it are made by Goya, the great artist of Zaragoza.
All pictures by me.

Matthieu August 11th, 2004, 05:55 PM Who the hell gave such crap notes to this church? (I voted 9)
dumatod August 16th, 2004, 02:55 PM 9.5
SUBLIME! :master: :master: :master:
dumatod August 16th, 2004, 02:57 PM Anyway, who gave 3.5? :sleepy: :poke: :lurker:
pedro October 25th, 2004, 04:39 PM As I'm native from that city I'll vote for 9,0. HOwever i prefer the gothic cathedral beside this basilic. I've posted some months ago a post in the Spanish forum with views of the city from the NW tower o the Basilic.

This picture isn't from the Basilic of our Lady of the Pilar. That's another small church very close (300 m) to the Basilic. It's just beside the main night life area "El Casco Viejo".
Phobos October 31st, 2004, 05:14 AM Looks like a mosque from the outside, and besides the central dome is quite beautiful, the rest of the structure isn't interesting IMO.6/10
zafiris November 7th, 2004, 09:47 PM Phobos I do not see any resemblance with a shitty mosque.
This is Nuestra Seņora del Pilar ("Our Lady of the Pillar"). 10!

I didn't say it resembles a SHITTY mosque,I only say it resemles a mosque ok!
Aquarius November 7th, 2004, 11:14 PM Yes the form is different, Visually reminds more to a mosque that not to a Christian church.

pedro January 9th, 2006, 10:02 PM Perolk the key to make pictures inside a Church in a discrete way is to use a digital camera without flash, just turn the iso selection into a high value. The only problem is the grain, however as you have a 350D you can select even ISO 800 without any grain.
Good luck with it!
pedro January 9th, 2006, 10:15 PM About the similarities with a mosque it's curious but the church wasn't built over an existing mosque.
The legend says that when St. jacob was in Spain claimed for help to convert the iberians. Then the virgin appeared and give him a Pillar saying "over this pillar you`ll build my church". Before the existing temple there was another smaller church but never a mosque.
Only 200 m away from the temple there's the Cathedral of El Salvador. This gothic temple was built over the remains of a mosque when the city was conquered in 1118 AD. There are still some remains of the muslim art in a wall of that cathedral.
The mosque was built over a former church which existed before the muslim invasion in the 8th century. And the church was built over a Roman Temple (the remains of the roman forum are underground between the Cathedral and El Pilar).
If anybody has any other question regarding this building I´ll try kindly to answer.
Regards.

Thanks! I now remember why this Church is familiar. In the Philippines, it has a "sister city" - Ciudad de Zamboaga The people here speaks a Spanish creole and an old Spanish fort can be found Real Fuerza de Nuestra Seņora del Pilar de Zaragoza.
Zamboanga to sign sisterhood pact with Zaragoza, Spain (http://www.mindanews.com/2005/04/10nws-sisterhood.html)
Espero que usted pueda tomar las fotos del interior. :okay:
