Torre Santander 198 - 200 mts / Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects

Banco Santander To Build 42-Story Tower In Monterrey, Mexico

MEXICO CITY (Dow Jones)--Spanish banking group Banco Santander (STD) said Monday it plans to invest $110 million to build a new office tower in Mexico's northern industrial hub of Monterrey, aiming to finish the project by the end of 2013.

Santander said in a press release that its new tower will be close to 200 meters high, with 42 stories, "making it the highest, most modern and most efficient office building in the north of the country, and becoming an icon for the city of Monterrey."

The bank's real estate subsidiary, Santander Global Property, will be in charge of renting out the tower's 50,300 square meters of office space and its 1,000-square-meter commercial area.

Santander said it plans to occupy 6,000 square meters of the building, where it will concentrate about 350 employees from Mexico's northeastern region.

"This is the first project of Santander Global Property of Mexico, and it marks the beginning of a series of big, new, world-class real estate developments that will be carried out soon in the country," Santander said.

Construction of Santander's tower is expected to begin in the first half of 2011. The U.S. architecture firm Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, which designed Malaysia's Petronas Towers and New York's World Financial Center, has been contracted for the project.

University of Monterrey - Gate of Creation

Tada Ando (His first project in Latinamerica)

http://i55.tinypic.com/23vc36r.jpg

SWA Group won a master plan and landscape architecture design competition focused on improving the sustainability of the 247-acre (100-hectare) campus of the University of Monterrey in Mexico. The project will include a site-design for the Tadao Ando-designed Art and Design School Building. Tadao Ando won the 1995 Pritzker Prize.

According to the news release, SWA Group will help make the campus more walkable and bikeable, designing a shift from a “vehicular orientation to one that encourages pedestrian, bicycle and transit use.” Focusing on the broader sustainability of the campus, the plan calls for the use of ”indigenous plant materials, natural water-retention and filtration, low maintenance landscaping as well as site-design strategies to enhance the learning and collaboration among students and faculty.”

The master plan aims to site Tadao Ando’s structure, called the Gate of Creation, a $34.5 million project encompassing 94,000 square feet (8,719 square meters), which includes ”spaces for design, research, teaching and exhibition, as well as 22 laboratories and workshops.” Rene Bihan, SWA Group’s San Francisco Managing Principal said: “We will be working with the architect and the university to provide a proper landscape backdrop to what is considered one of the most significant architectural buildings in all of Latin America, while also helping the university move its campus to a higher level of sustainability.”

Read the article, and learn about another SWA Group project in Monterrey — the Monterrey Open Space Master Plan project. SWA Group has won numerous ASLA professional awards, including a 2009 award of excellence for its Buffalo Bayou project. Also, see more drawings of Tadao Ando’s Gate of Creation.

OMA Opens the New Terminal B at Monterrey International Airport

Opened This October 2010

http://i55.tinypic.com/2up7gol.jpg

The building's infrastructure and innovative design addresses the needs of all airport users. It will provide passengers easy and rapid access to all facilities, from the parking area to the boarding lounge. During their passage through the terminal, passengers will also discover a 2,100 m2 commercial area with a wide range of shops, restaurants, and other services such as a children's play area and business center.

The overall scope of the Terminal B project includes, in addition to the building, a platform with thirteen aircraft positions (six contact positions with boarding through passenger jetways, four remote positions, and three positions for regional aircraft); taxiways; parking for 594 vehicles with automated access and payment systems; and access roads. The entire complex represents an investment by the Monterrey Airport of approximately Ps. 800 million.

Terminal B is the only terminal in Mexico and Latin America to have two-way aircraft taxiways, providing greater agility for airline operations and facilitating greater connectivity. These characteristics help make Terminal B a strategic asset that will support OMA's initiative to make the Monterrey Airport the most important transit hub in northern Mexico.
