chayves4u August 9th, 2004, 02:03 AM Mmm. Stunning. How could you not give it a 10?
Rapid August 9th, 2004, 02:23 AM Back then, it would be a 10
Today's standards, it would be a 0, because its in ruins
Median of 10 and 0 is 5
So a 5/10!
Matthieu August 9th, 2004, 11:26 AM I'm not a fan of the Forum.

è inutile per quel che riguarda e monumenti siamo i numeri1..
peccato che non sia cosi anche per i simboli dell' archittettura moderna , come i grattacielei:-(
AcesHigh October 20th, 2004, 07:56 PM couldnt anyone post pictures of how it looked back when it was not destroyed?
CAESARS-PALACe October 21st, 2004, 01:21 AM Some basic computer reconstructions, there are much better ones though including entire "Virtual Reality"-movie reconstructions.

AcesHigh October 21st, 2004, 02:25 AM where people were living in Rome when all of this was destroyed? Like... in Medieval Times... were these buildings already destroyed? WHEN were they destroyed? Ok, Rome was sacked... many times... but didnt the powers there (the catholic church for example) rebuild ANYTHING of the old times?
And how could some of these ruins be simply covered by earth and had to be escavated later? Wasnt the city always populated?? How could people see earth accumulating over the buildings and dont take it out?
jmancuso October 21st, 2004, 02:39 AM just watch the movie, gladiator, it has some awesome re-creations of rome...

AcesHigh October 21st, 2004, 03:38 AM Rome in the Gladiator movie...
is the scale of people in this pcture correct?? They look SOOO small compared to the buildings and Coliseum!! Those strcutures around seem to be at least 15 floors tall!!

funny how Rome looks like a cold northern european country in this movie, as opposed to old movies about Rome from the 50s and 60s, which showed Rome as always sunny and bright. Here, they used some kind of blue filter to give a cold aspect...
these come from another movie... older movie, due to the bright colors

AcesHigh October 21st, 2004, 03:42 AM wouldnt it be cool if they restored that central plaza of Rome (Senate plaza?) to become exactly as it was in the glory days of Rome?
Fabio January 24th, 2005, 06:18 AM 8/10
for what it is now, because before it was 10 for sure
GVNY February 25th, 2005, 10:57 AM The Gladiator film was definitely out of scale and the layout was just plain wrong. There was no 15 story tall Coliseum or senate houses, no large round square as shown in the movie and the forum didn't head into the Coliseum. There were other buildings in front of it.
You know, I don't think the Romans would have wanted their magnificent structures to rot. I would love to see them rebuilt, along with the Coloseum. How amazing would that be? I rate the forums a 10. We are rating them for their architecture, not their ruins.

True! Still on it is necessary to look.
It should not be spelled, that it's too bad that there are no glass windows and air-conditioning.

10!
NYCD December 26th, 2009, 10:24 AM A lot of Roman structures were used as quarry in the Middle Ages, but what is truly sad is that I read in a book, "A Day in the Life of Ancient Rome." That the forums of Rome, were pretty much INTACT all the way up till the 1400-1500's! And only were they buried under dirt and debris, but were pretty much all still standing!!!!
It was only then that a Pope during the time decided to quarry the Forums, and take all of their stone, marbles, decoratve feature to help build Vatican City and other churches through Rome, Michaelangelo himself tried to persuade the Pope otherwise, but it did not work.
So basically the Roman Forums survived until about the Renaissance were they were destroyed and used to create other structres.
Sad that they lasted so long only to be destroyed by the wishes of a Pope. :ohno:
