View Full Version : PORT DICKSON - Klang Valley's favourite beach retreat
szehoong August 9th, 2004, 08:27 AM Port Dickson had always been the favourite beach retreat to KLites as it used to be the nearest nice beach to the city. It also used to be the favourite amongst the British during the colonial days. Rich tycoons used to built their retreat mansions along the famed beaches of Port Dickson.
But the insurgence of tourist in the 80s had made Port Dickson dirty. In the last decade.....the govt had been painstakingly restoring PD to its former glory. The past few years saw the uptrend in city folks buying up beach-fronting residentials there. :)
I took these photographs from the plane on my way back from Hong Kong (27th July 2004). The plane was flying quite low and its like 5 mins before touching down at KLIA ;)

The white mansion with extensive grounds that seems to be the epicentre of the resort is actually on a separate property (it had an impressive double arched gateway entrance to the property visible in this picture) is the home to Zaitun's owner (a famous Malaysian beauty and health products brand). ;)

When yousee a brown river would you say it'sa polluted river? when the fact is the brownish colour is caused by tropical silt. There is much more than one's appearance shows.

Seal surprise at PD beach
PORT DICKSON, Mar 11:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I could not believe my eyes when I saw a group of eight seals frolicking in the sea by the beach.”
Mazlan Ahmad, 34, was excited when he saw the mammals, which he had only seen before on television, in the sea at Bagan Pinang beach here last Monday.
He was strolling on the beach about 9am when he saw the creatures. When he tried to approach them, they disappeared into the sea.
The mammals, numbering about eight to 10, have caused the beach to be crowded with visitors who are eager to catch a glimpse of them. Seals have almost never been seen in this tourist town.
A marine researcher from Akademi Kembara Nusantara Sdn Bhd, Dr Razali Kemp Mohamad Rais, believes that the seals were migrating from the North Pole to the South Pole when they diverted their route to the beaches of Port Dickson.
He said the seals’ navigational system, which is based on sound waves being reflected from the seabed, could have been affected by the changes in the seabed after the tsunami.
"These changes could have caused the mammals to be diverted from their usual path, resulting in them passing by Port Dickson," he said when contacted yesterday.
Razali said the seals are easy to detect as they can only last about 10 minutes underwater and have to resurface for air.
He added that the presence of the mammals near here is a good sign as fishermen can look forward to a bigger catch.
“The seals usually follow schools of deep sea fish and herd them towards shallow waters,” he said.
He reminded fishermen not to harm the seals as they would actually help the fishermen increase their catch. He said the arrival of the seals also showed that the waters of Port Dickson are rich with protein source and marine life forms.

travellator October 2nd, 2006, 05:55 PM Good response seen for Banyan Curve
KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur Metro Development Sdn Bhd (KL Metro) hopes to sell 50% of its Banyan Curve Water Homes project in Port Dickson by year-end.
KL Metro director Datuk Low Tak Fatt said the company had already seen brisk sales of the units, priced from RM470,000 to RM550,000 each, even before the launch.
“Tomorrow (today) is the soft launch of the project. We have already sold 20% of the 249 units, comprising water chalets, garden chalets and serviced suites,” he told a press conference yesterday.
Banyan Curve, sited on a two-acre leasehold land, has a gross development value of RM110mil and is due for completion in 2008.
Located 4.8km from Port Dickson town, the chalets are built on stilts and are furnished with special stone works imported from Bali.

Each unit has a private pool, an open garden and a see-through flooring in the centre of the bathroom.
”We believe we are among the few who have developed chalets with private pools,” Low said, adding that the price of the chalets and suites was inclusive of fittings, furniture and furnishings.
Like the earlier Legend Water Chalets, Banyan Curve will be managed by the Legend Group of Hotel and Resorts, a member of the Metroplex group.
Low said the company targeted to sell 40% of the project to foreigners.
Facilities at Banyan Curve include a restaurant, lobby lounge, business centre, conference rooms, banquet hall, convenience store, mailroom, reception area, housekeeping and restrooms.
The company had sold 95% of the Legend Water Chalets and also completed the project ahead of schedule, Low said.
He also said KL Metro had teamed up with the Malacca Government to develop a water chalet project in Tanjung Keling by end-2007.

PENANG: Kuala Lumpur Metro group has sold about half the 249 units offered under its Banyan Curve Water Homes project in Port Dickson, and is confident the balance units will be snapped up within a year.
Believed to be the first of its kind project in the country, the scheme is being developed by Kuala Lumpur Metro Development Sdn Bhd, a member of the KL Metro group.
KL Metro Development director Datuk Low Tak Fatt said in an interview the RM110mil project was unique as each unit would have its own swimming pool.
He said work on the project, which is located in Tanjung Gemuk about 2km from Port Dickson town, began in October and would be ready in two years.
The units, which have built-up areas ranging from 1,040 to 1,312 sq ft, are priced between RM430,000 and RM550,000.
The project comprises 166 water chalets, 44 garden chalets and 39 serviced suites.
Low said the water chalets, built above the sea, would offer buyers a view of the sea through a solid transparent glass panel.
A special feature is that each of the water chalets will have an open air garden,กฑ he said.
The garden chalets and serviced suites would be located on land. This project guarantees a rental return of 8% per annum or 104% for 13 years,กฑ Low said.
He said the furniture and fittings of the units were comparable to a five-star hotel.
The firm will hold an exhibition on the project in Penang this weekend. The lead property agents for the project are Raine & Horne and EDBiD Properties Sdn Bhd.

ABOUT 70 per cent of the Legend International Water Homes in Port Dickson, a prestigious project undertaken by the Kuala Lumpur Metro Group, has been sold even before completion.
Located at Tanjung Gemok, about 2km from Port Dickson town, the project is the second phase of the Legend Water Chalets, and is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2009.
The first phase, opened to the public in 2006, saw all 392 units sold with the majority opting for the rental payment scheme. The scheme allows owners to lease back their property to KL Metro for six per cent rental income per annum in return.
The second phase was recently launched by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Ja'afar Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
A majority of the buyers are from the Klang Valley while overseas buyers, who make up about 30 per cent, are mostly from North America, Western Europe, the Gulf region and Asia Pacific.
Almost 70 per cent of the 249 units on offer for the second phase, which offers a more high-end concept, have been snapped up.
The units include 166 water chalets, 44 garden chalets and 39 sky pool villas. Prices range from RM300,000 to RM1 million.
As in the first project, the second phase will also be managed by the Legend Group of Hotels and Resorts.
The Legend Water Chalets is designed with a Tropical Balinese touch, offering choices of tumble stone and tropical hard wood floorings and elevated bedrooms. One unique feature, and a selling plus point, is that each unit has its own private pool and open air garden.
KL Metro is now working on developing another resort project on a joint venture basis with the Malacca state government.
rizalhakim February 15th, 2008, 02:46 AM Three phases of stalled Palm Springs Resort to be launched this year
By LOONG TSE MIN
KUALA LUMPUR: Resorts operator and property developer Tanco Holdings Bhd will, for the first time in 10 years, be launching this year three phases of a previously stalled major project, Palm Springs Resort, in Port Dickson.
The company had been launching several small phases of its Bandar Country Homes development in Rawang in the past few years, but these had been slow, business development director Andrew Tan told StarBiz.
For Palm Springs Resort which comprises 15 phases, Tanco aims to launch Duta Grande comprising 800 units of 410 to 830 sq ft resort suites with a gross development value (GDV) of about RM260mil ; SPA Village with 70 chalets ranging from 1,200 to 1,400 sq ft worth RM70mil in GDV; and Palm Springs Boulevard consisting of 24 shop lots with built-up areas of 1,200 sq ft with a GDV of RM15mil.
The company, which came out of PN17 classification on Jan 17 after debt restructuring and the emergence of a new lead banker in Lehman Brothers Commercial Corp Ltd, also plans for more launches at its Rawang development.
Andrew said the Rawang development was mature, with about 10,000 homes and 45,000 residents.
The company plans to launch in Rawang phase 2 of its Greenwood Park district consisting of 155 terrace houses of about 1,700 sq ft priced from RM240,000. The total GDV for this phase is RM70mil.
It will also launch Ivory Heights, comprising 52 bungalows with built-up areas of 3,200 sq ft, with prices starting from RM600,000.
In the company’s debt restructuring, Lehman provided a two-year loan facility of about RM239.6mil in November last year to repay Tanco’s existing debt obligations, to mainly local banks.
Tanco director Datuk Lynne Tan said with only one lender now, the company would be able “to work on our assets” and re-launch its projects as well as the timeshare sales that it had been so successful with in the past.
Tanco was also looking to build up its landbank, she added.
Lynne said the focus in the near term would be on Palm Springs Resort, with another 400 acres of undeveloped prime seafront land with condominiums, a hotel, a waterpark and marina in the works.
Tanco would be banking on selling most of these projects en bloc to foreign investors, Andrew said.
He said as many international portfolio funds were mandated to invest in the Klang Valley or in resorts, given that property prices in the Golden Triangle had doubled in the past 12 months, the country’s resorts could attract such funds.
Monument February 15th, 2008, 08:53 AM Will this development, Palm Springs, make a big difference to the perception and image of Port Dickson? Any views?
nazrey April 14th, 2008, 05:59 AM Multi-million ringgit plan to transform Negri beach resort
Monday April 14, 2008
By SARBAN SINGH
TheStar
SEREMBAN: Port Dickson will have a duty-free zone and a new Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex after a multi-million ringgit land reclamation project is completed.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the facility would be similar to the one in Stulang Laut, Johor. The other tourist support facilities planned are a multi-purpose jetty, hotels, shopping complexes and office blocks.
“Since PD already has the necessary infrastructure, we hope this will further boost tourism and business.
“We need this project as there is no shopping complex in PD which is one of the top tourist spots in the country,” he said in an interview at Wisma Negri.
The MB said that as land along the popular beach stretches had been taken up, the state had decided that the best spot for reclamation would be the Port Dickson town beach front.
He said a new jetty was necessary as the state government hoped to attract more tourists, particularly from Singapore and Indonesia.
“Since PD has already been earmarked as a wellness zone, we also want to help promote medical tourism,” he said, adding that cruise ships could also dock at the jetty.
Mohamad said a firm had been commissioned to conduct an Environment Impact Assessment study for the project which would be privately financed.
“Our priority is the environment. In fact, one of the world’s top petrochemical companies wanted to invest several billion ringgit here but we told them that we did not have the land they required.
“Also, we did not want to locate such a major petrochemical industry here,” he said.
Mohamad said the project was also timely as the Federal Government had earmarked Seremban, Nilai and Port Dickson as the greater Klang Valley area.
“Since there isn’t much space left in the Klang Valley, Negri Sembilan will benefit most from the spill-over effect.” He said there were also plans to set up a corporatised body to promote tourism in Port Dickson.

rizalhakim April 17th, 2008, 05:29 AM MB: Projects in PD will benefit people
By : Patrick Sennyah
SEREMBAN: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has lashed out at bloggers over development projects in Port Dickson.
He said they should check their facts before criticising the projects which would benefit the people.
Mohamad Hasan had announced that the popular beach destination would have a duty-free zone and a new Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex after a multi-million ringgit land reclamation project is completed.
The other tourist support facilities planned are a multi-purpose jetty, hotels, shopping complexes and office block.
Speaking after the state exco meeting yesterday, Mohamad Hasan said the project would not destroy any part of the beach as the reclamation would be carried out near the town.
He said the public would get a chance to give their input.
He said the Seremban-Port Dickson train service proposal was another project which the state hoped would boost tourist arrivals to the beach destination.
He said work on the RM400 million Central Sewage System for Port Dickson had already started and was expected to be ready by 2010.
He also said the state through Yayasan Negri Sembilan would ask the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board for 50 taxi permits which it would lease out at RM10-RM20 per day.
"This is because we want to ease the burden of taxi drivers in the state who now have to pay about RM60 a day for rental."
rizalhakim April 24th, 2008, 04:36 AM Developers in a fix over rising material cost
SEREMBAN: Many property developers are delaying the launch of their new projects due the rising cost of construction materials.
The Negri Sembilan Real Estate and Housing Developers' Association (Rehda) chairman Datuk Soam Heng Choon yesterday said the developers could not fix the prices for their properties due to the unstability in prices of building materials, especially steel bars and cement.
"They are worried that if they launch the properties at a certain price this week, the price of building materials may increase the next week."
He advised developers to do research before they decide on their projects.
"The property market today is about launching the right product at the right price and time. Now is the right time for consumers to buy property because we anticipate property prices to rise because of the high cost," Soam said.
He expects property prices to increase between 15 and 20 per cent.
Soam was speaking after announcing the 2008 Malaysia Property Expo at Seremban Parade, from May 2 to 4, where 2,594 property units worth RM380 million would be on display.
On another matter, he said Negri Sembilan Rehda lauded Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan's announcement on development projects in Port Dickson.
"We are positive the number of visitors to Port Dickson will increase. This will improve the hospitality side of the property market as well the demand for holiday homes there," Soam said.
Monument May 16th, 2008, 11:34 AM I went down to this development about 2 weeks and was remarkably surprised on the upside.

Friday October 24, 2008
FOUR foreign and three local companies have submitted plans to develop a duty-free zone on soon-to-be reclaimed land fronting Port Dickson town.
According to Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, the foreign companies are from the United Arab Emirates, Holland and Singapore and they have local partners and proven track records for undertaking big projects.
”These are consortium-based corporations and are keen to participate in the development of the duty-free zone in Port Dickson,” Mohamad said.
“Others are still welcome to submit their plans until the end of this year,” he said.
Mohamad told reporters this after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting at his office in Wisma Negri in Seremban on Wednesday.
He said the three local companies which submitted their bids also had impressive track records in the construction sector.
”They will be asked to present their plans to us early next year. Our priority is the environment. We do not want any development which could adversely affect the eco-system in Port Dickson,” he said.
In April, The Star had reported that a duty-free zone would be set up in Port Dickson to spur tourism activities there.
It would be similar to the Stulang Laut duty-free zone in Johor which also houses a new customs, immigration and quarantine complex, a multi-purpose jetty, a shopping complex and hotel.
Mohamad did not say how big an area would be reclaimed in Port Dickson as this would depend on the bidders’ plans.
He said they were free to develop the area, but in return would have to build the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex for the government.
The state government, he said, had decided to reclaim the area fronting the town as most stretches of beaches had been taken up.
”We will also get an environment impact assessment report done before allowing the project to go ahead,” he said, adding that the reclamation and construction project would be a privately financed initiative (PFI).

Helping to save the environment: Raja Ahmad Murad ( second from right)
launching a recyling campaign at the opening of the Health, Safety, Security
and Environment (HSSE) Week in Port Dickson. With him are representatives
from NGOs and local residents associations.
The Shell Refining Company Bhd (SRC) in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, may have won many awards for its commitment to safety and the environment, but its employees are not about to rest on their laurels.
To ensure these are not compromised, employees have been reminded to remain focused towards a “goal zero target” which includes zero injury, zero significant incidents and zero fatalities and to protect the environment.
Shell chairman Datuk Saw Choo Boon gave this reminder during the company’s annual Health, Safety, Security and the Environment (HSSE) Week recently.
Saw said Shell Malaysia was doing its part in addressing environmental issues, hence its focus on the environment for the 2008 HSSE week.
“For this year, the HSSE committee has decided to focus on a much talked about subject — the environment. At Shell, we often talk about the three hard truths which remind us that the demand for energy is growing rapidly, the supply of conventional oil will struggle to keep up with this growing demand, and that carbon dioxide emissions from energy sources will rise.
“Understanding these three hard truths is important — doing something about it is critical,” he said.
The refinery in Port Dickson won the Malaysian Business “Corporate Social Responsibility Awards” 2007 in the environment category, Environmental Award at the Prime Minister’s Hibiscus 2006/2007 Award for Notable Achievement and the Negri Sembilan Award for its environmental management performance in the state.
Held simultaneously with Shell’s plants and offices nationwide, the HSSE Week (Oct 21-24) was part of the company’s efforts towards building a strong safety culture as an integral part of its business.
Saw said the company had won awards for its efforts to protect the environment and it was proof the company was doing its bit for the environment.
“This recognition is testament to our efforts in 2007 to reduce the carbon footprint of our operations,” he said.
At the launch, SRC managing director Raja Ahmad Murad highlighted the HSSE performance and achievements at the company’s operations in Port Dickson.
“We have achieved a major safety milestone here — that is the achievement of nine million exposure hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI) in July and there were no spill incidents in Port Dickson this year.
“The Port Dickson refinery also won the grand award at the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSHOSH) Awards this year,” he said.
Raja Ahmad said the company’s safety performance had also been commendable as there were no major safety or environmental incidents involving its employees or contractors.
A recycling campaign was launched at the opening of the HSSE week.
The 11th Hour, an environmental documentary, was screened for the benefit of guests, who included Shell employees, representatives from government agencies, non-governmental organisations as well as local residents associations.
Presentations on gas cylinder safety at home, safe handling of lubricants and road safety were also held during the week.
For the benefit of schools, SRC also organised an environmental seminar for students which included talks on the environment, a video session, a quiz and an art competition.
A tree-planting programme was also carried out at Sekolah Datuk Haji Abdul Samad, Port Dickson.

By PATSY KAM
Experience the first floating spa in Malaysia.
THE concept of a spa can be misleading given today’s interpretation. Some people reckon as long as there are a few scented candles in the room and flower petals in a bath tub, you’ve got a spa going.
Aspects of well-being and an ambience of relaxation should be deemed essential for a spa. The Oxford dictionary defines a spa as “a resort providing therapeutic baths or mineral springs” or a “fashionable hotel”.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/12/10/lifeliving/f_10avispa2.jpg
On air: The balcony just outside the lounge area in Avi Spa, Avillion Hotel, Port Dickson. It goes almost one full circle and the water feature with infinity edge surrounding it gives the impression that one is suspended above the water.
The Avi Spa at Avillion Port Dickson is a bit of both. It’s also probably the only floating spa in Malaysia, built above water, located at the very furthest of the resort on the Straits of Malacca.
Avi is the brainchild of director Gricia Gan who worked with Axis Network Design Consultants, the same interior design company that worked on the hotel 10 years ago, to realise her concept.
The spa is divided into three venues – avi lounge; avi spa suites that offer seven luxury suites including two rooms for couples and a premium suite; and avi spa space.
Owned and managed by the Avillion Hotel Group, the word “avi” means sun in Sanskrit and also denotes the first two syllables of the hotel’s name. Thus, it seems only fitting that the spa should be all about light.
“The interior offers a play of light and space, and serves to let in the element of nature,” explains Gan.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/12/10/lifeliving/f_10avispa3.jpg
Sheer bliss: The twin treatment room at Avi Spa, Port Dickson where clients can sip tea on the balcony after enjoying their treatment.
Hence the generous use of glass in the reception and the lounge areas, which are framed by glass walls on one side to reveal the open sea. The glass doors at the lounge open to a gorgeous circular balcony framed by an infinity-edged fountain.
This uniquely designed relaxation area gives one the sensation that you’re “floating” above the sea and is set to be the primary attraction of the spa as guests will surely be drawn to the open concept, barring rainy days, of course.
Canvas sheets imported from Germany make up the high roof of the 650.32sqm double-storey pavilion from which hangs a contemporary central light styled after a chandelier.
“Thanks to the white canvas which gives a lighter touch to the design, the imposing height of the ceiling isn’t so obvious.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/12/10/lifeliving/f_10avispa1.jpg
Panoramic view: Clients can look out to the sea while sipping ginger tea after their treatment on the balcony outside the treatment rooms.
“This spa is really a modern translation of the kampung house, after which the chalets are styled, done in white. This way, you get a brighter and more spacious effect,” she adds.
Traditional dark wood would have infused a heavier mood to the ambience. Nonetheless, the wood grain is carried through in the design and there is a clever mix of textures as seen in the use of timber, glass, the soft furnishing and mod furniture. Italian tiles on the sides of the bar counter resemble the old-style Malaccan peranakan tiles and were specially chosen for their antique edge.
The clean and simple lines decor of the spa come off looking stylish and contemporary, refreshingly different from the many Balinese-styled spas around town today.
The Avi Spa is littered with deck chairs and footstools where enthusiastic therapists offer hand or foot massages if so required. This is more of a private pampering station suitable for group consultations with friends or private functions.
Facials and body massages are taken up to the next level of luxury in the cosy treatment rooms, and couples or girlfriends can opt to have their treatments together.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/12/10/lifeliving/f_10avispa.jpg
Eclectic combo: The Avi Spa is a modern translation of the kampung house in white and modern materials. The roof is specially imported German canvas for a light airy feel.
What’s even more appealing is the thought of sipping ginger tea on the open verandah just outside the room after a relaxing massage, caressed by the sea breeze with a view to match.
“This is more of a relaxation spa, a place for people to unwind. As the hotel is now moving into regional and foreign markets, it is only fitting that we offer more lifestyle services,” adds Gan.
Guests may choose to have a massage, scrub, wrap, bath, hair treatment, manicure or a facial. There’s also special “rituals” offered such as the “velvety batik” or “dondang sayang”.
The spa menu comes in three sections – signature, traditional and marine treatments. The signature treatments are mapped according to one of four moods (valour, ardour, lightness and poise) based on elements of nature: water, earth, wind and fire. They are 100% custom-made from pure essential oil blends and each of the oils are based on an emotion inspired by the four classical elements.
“At Avi Spa, you choose to counter or reinforce an emotion. As such, you don’t just go for a spa treatment – you take home an experience,” says Gan.
Avi traditions are peranakan-inspired treatments with a blend of indigenous ingredients and natural remedies from Malay and Chinese traditions. What’s interesting is that there’s even an adjacent “spa garden” where the herbs used for the treatments such as limau purut (kaffir lime), pandan leaves and basil are home-grown.
For marine goodness, the therapeutic benefits of seawater and algae rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals are in the various body and face treatments offered by the brand Phytomer.
...........wow!!!!!........

PORT DICKSON 28 Dis.

rizalhakim January 28th, 2009, 05:52 AM Giving Port Dickson a wide berth
A FEW of my friends from the United States were in Kuala Lumpur recently and I had to take them sight-seeing. Since they were going to be here for only four days, I wanted to take them to the best spots within that limited time frame.
While I was gathering information on the places to see, a friend recommended Port Dickson. I cringed.
"No way. I am not taking them there. They just flew in from Bali (Indonesia) and are heading off to the Maldives after visiting Malaysia.
"They would assume all our beaches are like Port Dickson. I need to give them a good impression of Malaysia," I said.
We went to Teluk Cempadak in Kuantan, Pahang, while on our way to the Kuala Gandah elephant sanctuary.
Suffice to say, mission accomplished. A bunch of happy campers!
I was impressed with the cleanliness of the Teluk Cempadak beach, even though there were a few restaurants in the vicinity including two fast food joints facing the beach. It was a far cry from Port Dickson.
Port Dickson had over the years turned into an ugly duckling and is slowly being given the cold shoulder by local and international tourists despite it having the potential to become a beautiful swan.
The once-upon-a-time esteemed holiday destination has lost its charm because of massive pollution.
Not wanting to be unfair, I asked those who have visited the place or live there for their opinions. Not a single one gave a favourable response.
A resident, who declined to be named, said: "It is like having visitors come into your home, litter and leave without any guilt."
One friend, Subashini MacGuhan, who was born and bred in Port Dickson, said the beaches were cleaner years ago and many still have distinct memories of white sandy beaches especially after the eighth mile.
"Port Dickson has so much potential, it has history. Its Minangkabau culture is unique. It's sad to see this uniqueness fade away leaving behind a beach strewn with rubbish," she said.
Subashini, who lives in Kuala Lumpur, added that she and her family would rather travel to Cherating, Pahang or Terengganu for a beach holiday than go to Port Dickson which is closer to home.
"What puts me off is the haphazard development in the coastal areas. That has not only spoilt the beauty of the beaches, it has also caused massive pollution. Let's not forget the filthy restaurants in Teluk Kemang," added Subashini.
Another friend, Jeff Lim from Kuala Lumpur, said he would rather go to Pulau Redang or Langkawi or even Phuket, Thailand, than spend a weekend in Port Dickson.
"I prefer to spend my money holidaying in places which may be a bit far rather than go to Port Dickson and end up being frustrated with what I see there," said Lim.
While there are various efforts being made by the state government to boost tourism in Port Dickson -- a host of state-of-the-art projects are in the pipeline -- the main concern that needs attention is cleanliness.
Many have blamed the authorities for not keeping the beaches clean but the real culprits here are the holiday- makers.
Despite efforts by the Port Dickson district council to get private companies, non-governmental organisations and residents association to help clean up and educate the public, the problem persists.
The beaches look like a dumpsite especially over the weekends when all kinds of rubbish including diapers, bottles, styrofoam containers and plastic bags are strewn. These could so easily have been disposed of at the numerous rubbish bins.
What baffles me is the attitude of these holiday-makers who assume it is not their responsibility to keep the beaches clean.
Maybe it's time for the authorities to crack the whip and issue heavy penalties on those caught littering. This should include errant beach-side stall owners who dump their rubbish near the beach.
It's sad to see the Port Dickson beaches in the state they are in but unless there are concerted efforts to change, Port Dickson will remain an ugly duckling.
rizalhakim February 6th, 2009, 11:07 PM 5 syarikat bangunkan Port Dickson
SEREMBAN 6 Feb.
rizalhakim February 6th, 2009, 11:25 PM Comprehensive Development For Port Dickson, Says MB
SEREMBAN, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- Port Dickson is to see comprehensive development, with a duty-free shopping zone, leisure marina, convention hall, seaport terminal and customs, immigration and quarantine complexes.
"With these facilities, the popular holiday spot will become a year-long crowd puller," Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said today.
"All this while Port Dickson has been known to be a weekend tourist spot but with the ambitious development plans, it will no longer be a weekend tourist destination but throughout the day.
"Our intention is to develop Port Dickson into a tourist attraction to provide revenue to the state government.
"We want the tourism industry as one of the industries that can diversify the state government's sources of revenue," he told reporters after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting.
The plan, which involves heavy investments, would be undertaken by the private sector, he said, adding that the state government would only provide the land.
"In this way, the state government will receive returns, both in cash and kind or in other forms," he said.
Mohamad said the state government has shortlisted five companies, including foreign firms, which have shown interest and have the expertise to undertake the project.
"We have prepared the terms of reference as a guide for the project and the companies have to comply with them.
"We are to call them for a briefing soon and to present their plans to the state government before we decide which company meets the state government's requirements.
"The bidders will be given an equal chance to make their presentations but the state government will pick only one company to implement the project," he added.

It's sad to see the Port Dickson beaches in the state they are in but unless there are concerted efforts to change, Port Dickson will remain an ugly duckling.
rizalhakim May 18th, 2009, 05:58 AM PD project yet to be awarded
By SARBAN SINGH
THE state government has yet to award the multi-billion ringgit Port Dickson duty-free zone project, to be built on a soon-to-be-reclaimed area fronting the resort town, to any party.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said although five companies had been shortlisted, a final decision would only be made in two months.
“The shortlisted companies will be called in next month to brief the state authorities on their project concept. We will take another month to announce the successful bidder,” he said, adding that one of the five companies was foreign.
Mohamad was asked if the project, which would, among others, include the construction of a Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex, a convention centre which can seat up to 3,000 people, a hotel, duty-free shopping mall and offices, had been awarded.
“Nobody should go around claiming that they have been awarded the duty-free zone project ... we will make it public when the successful bidder is chosen,” he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting at his office in Seremban.
Many are confused over the status of the project as a local company in Port Dickson claims that it had obtained approval from the Port Dickson Municipal Council (MPPD) for a similar project.
The two projects are to be built on adjacent parcels of land.
International Maritime Gateway (Image) Sdn Bhd managing director Mohd Azman Ahmad, when contacted, said the project to be built by his company would also have a CIQ, duty-free mall, hotel and apartments, a convention centre, marina and a deep-sea jetty.
Mohamad, when asked, said he had no knowledge of this.
Mohd Azman said his company’s project, to be built at an estimated cost of RM350mil, had been planned some time ago. “We are a private entity and are not involved in the project mentioned by the Mentri Besar. In fact, we had also briefed the Mentri Besar on this,” he said.
He said the project’s Environmental Impact Assessment report was also ready and copies would be submitted to the Department of Environment (DOE) and MPPD next week.
Asked how a CIQ complex could be built by Image when one would be built in the project proposed by the state government just adjacent to it, Mohd Azman said his company had had meetings with the Home Ministry as well as the Marine Department on the possibility of one being built by them.
”I was told that if I can provide the building and infrastructure, they would have no qualms about opening the CIQ offices here,” he said.
Mohd Azman said he also held talks with several business friends who had obtained duty-free licences from the Treasury previously, on the possibility of opening a tax-free mall within his project.
His company, Mohd Azman claimed, had also held talks with the Railway Asset Corporation two years ago on the possibility of developing the parcel of land owned by Keretapi Tanah Melayu that was located adjacent to his proposed project.
Asked if it was true that his company had already started selling and marketing units to be built in the project, Mohd Azman said these were not being sold but leased under the “super value programme”.
“Under the programme, the buyers don’t get to own these units. They will only have the right to use them,” he added.

Poser over private 'Customs, Immigration & Quarantine' complex in PD
No economic sense to PD developer's move to build CIQ facilities, says Customs
Masami Mustaza
Friday, May 22nd, 2009 08:26:00
http://www.mmail.com.my/sites/default/files/imagecache/large/pd.jpg
THE plan by Maritime International Gateway Sdn Bhd to build a private Customs, Immigration and Quarantine
(CIQ) complex to be integrated in its duty-free zone project in Port Dickson is raising many
questions.
"The developer is calling it a CIQ complex but does the developer really understand its functions and what
it will entail?" said a source from the Royal Malaysian Customs headquarters in Putrajaya.
"The building of a CIQ complex is usually a State affair with the cooperation of relevant enforcement agencies. One thing is for sure, it is not going to be cheap to build and maintain especially if you're looking at having the latest equipment," added the source.
Other issues, he said, included matters of security and manpower.
"There are close to 10,000 Customs officers stationed all over the country. I cannot say how many may be
needed for the complex in Port Dickson should the developer proceed with the project. It all depends on the
kind of traffic that is expected," he said.
It also does not make sense for the development to have its own CIQ complex when there is already aCustoms Department building in town, very close to the proposed project.
The source could not say if the company had brought the matter up with the department but admitted that
he had heard some "rumours" about the project some time ago.
"When the developer said they were looking at having a private CIQ complex, does it mean that they are planning to lease the building to the government or are they looking at privatising the Immigration services?
"If it's the former, they have to find out if there is a necessity for such a facility and if the government is willing to accommodate them. But if it's the latter, it is going to be impossible," said Immigration Departmentdirector-general Datuk Mahmood Adam.
"Immigration officers are given powers and authority by the government under the various Acts we have. Different levels of officers will be accorded different levels of authority. You cannot say that a person hired as a private Immigration employee can assume the same powers as that of a regular government- appointed officer.
It's not as simple as that." Mahmood said he had never come across plans to have a private CIQ complex in Port Dickson.
Meanwhile, the Home Ministry rubbished claims by the developer that it had obtained permission to build a private CIQ complex.
Acting secretary-general Datuk Raja Azhar Raja Abdul Manap said that he "had no knowledge about the project" and that "if no application came to the Immigration Department, I don't expect that it will be forwardedto the ministry".
"The Home Ministry is only one of the many agencies that must give its recommendations as to the feasibility of the project, so we cannot be the only one to make the decision for approval," he said.
On May 5, Malay Mail reported that Maritime International Gateway was selling time-sharing seaview apartments to potential customers despite not acquiring approval from the authorities.
Checks with Council Town Planning Department director Ahmad Hashim Bakar revealed that the project was currently on hold and that the preliminary approval and development order only applied to the initial plans submitted by the company as the developer had made amendments to its development plans.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

rizalhakim June 23rd, 2009, 07:12 AM Port Dickson bakal berubah wajah - MB

rizalhakim June 30th, 2009, 04:13 AM KL Metro in final sales push for Port Dickson project
By Chong Pooi KoonPublished: 2009/06/30
PROPERTY developer Kuala Lumpur Metro Development Sdn Bhd will continue to push overseas sales for a tenth of the total units left unsold in a Port Dickson water homes project, just months away from its opening.
The Legend International Water Homes, located at two miles off Jalan Seremban in the beach town, started construction in January 2007 and will be opened to owners and holidaymakers this October.
"We will continue to market the project overseas," executive director Datuk Yap Chuan Thai said at a media briefing in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Over 90 per cent of the project, with gross development value of RM150 million, were sold to mainly foreign buyers from the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, the Gulf states and some European countries, Yap said. Buyers have the option to lease back with an 8 per cent gross rental income return a year.
The project has 166 water homes, 44 garden chalets and 39 sky pool villas that are priced between RM400,000 and RM700,000 each.
With an average size of 826 sq ft to 1,312 sq ft, they are all studio units equipped with private pools, designed in Balinese concept.
Mandy Chew Siok Cheng, president of The Legend Group of Hotels and Resorts, which will manage the property, said it expects 68 per cent occupancy in the first year. Room rates average around RM400 per night.
Yap said the global economic turmoil has not affected Kuala Lumpur Metro's sales. The company plans to start another similar project called the Hibiscus in Penang next year.
"We have not finalised the layout yet, so there's not much details. But with our strong marketing network overseas, we are confident sales," Yap said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur Metro Development Sdn Bhd expects a 68% occupancy rate in the first year of launch for its Legend International Water Homes project in Port Dickson, said managing director Datuk Low Tak Fatt.
Scheduled for completion in August, the project had achieved a take-up rate of almost 90% thus far, he said after the hotel management agreement signing between the company and The Legend Group yesterday.
He said the units could be purchased from the developer and leased back to the company.
The Legend Group of Hotels and Resorts, a member of the Metroplex group, will manage the project.
Low said he was confident the project, which has a gross development value of RM150mil, would be fully sold out.
"We will continue to market the remaining 10% to overseas buyers.
“Most of the buyers are from countries like Britain and the United Arab Emirates,” he said, adding that the units were priced from RM400,000 to RM700,000 each.
Low said he did not expect the sales to foreigners to taper down despite the global economic slowdown.
“We have a strong marketing network overseas. We are confident of the sales,” he said.
Meanwhile, KL Metro chairman Mat Hassan Esa said the Legend International Water Homes was designed mainly in response to the market for high-end resort homes.
“This project has also won the prestigious CNBC’s International Property Awards in London in 2007, under the category ‘Best Architecture’ and ‘Best Development’,” he said, adding that the award had inspired the company to develop more innovative and quality resort homes like the Hibiscus Project in 2010.
rizalhakim July 7th, 2009, 05:12 AM PD's very own Baywatch unit
By C.S.NATHAN
THE St. John’s Ambulance Malaysia (SJAM) chapter in Port Dickson has recorded a first by becoming the only team to have its very own Baywatch unit in the country and possibly in South-East Asia.
Although the word “Baywatch” may conjure up images of red swimsuit-clad women running slow motion on the beach, this 60-member team bears little resemblance to the TV series of the same name other than its shared passion for saving lives.
The brainchild of Negri Sembilan SJAM Area Two Commander Dr Mahadevan Deva Tata, the team will be on duty on weekends and school holidays when the beaches are the busiest.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2009/7/7/central/m_10rescue.jpg
For practice: SJAM Baywatch members rescuing a victim from near drowning during a mock rescue operation at the recent launch of the rescue unit in Port Dickson.
“I embarked on the project with the support and encouragement of our national commander-in-chief Datuk Dr Low Bin Tick who had talked about forming such a unit years ago.
“We both shared a dream of making Baywatch a reality. As a student in the West Indies, I saw how their Baywatch teams helped save lives,” Mahadevan said after the launch of the SJAM Baywatch recently.
He said the resort town swelled up with some 30,000 visitors on weekends, which means the Baywatch team has their work cut out for them.
Baywatch unit in place: SJAM commander Datuk Goh Siow Huat (right), state speaker Datuk Razak Mansor (centre), Kumaravel (left) and Dr Mahadevan at the launch.of the unit.
“Having served at the PD hospital, I understand first-hand the necessity of having such a unit to adminster basic first aid to those who require it, especially at the beach areas.
“It wasn’t an easy task as we had to draft our very own beach first-aid guidelines but it was definitely worth the effort,” said the doctor.
Stationed along the 8th mile beach (which sees the most visitors), the six-man team works on two shifts from 8am to 7pm daily.
Victims of beach or water-related injuries are treated at a beach-side first-aid post and an ambulance is on stand-by in case of emergencies.
Mahadevan said the team had been treating 10 to 15 cases a day since operations started a month ago.
“Those are pretty high statistics considering there never was a Baywatch team before this. However, the bulk of cases involve minor injuries like cuts, bruises, bites and sprains.
“Since we started, there have been a couple of near-drowning cases and just last week our team managed to save a young boy from drowning. This is what we are here for — to save lives,” he said.
Team members come from diverse background and include men and women aged between 20 and 55.
Apart from being SJAM members, these volunteers have one thing in common — the passion to make a difference, as every one of them sacrifices their days off to help others.
Volunteers are only given a food allowance and yet many come from as far as Kuala Lumpur and Bahau to patrol the beach here.
Mahadevan said the volunteers deserve their due recognition for their selfless service.
“Team members went through rigorous training with our own medical team and with the Fire and Rescue Services Department’s scuba diving team before we went public,” he said.
The unit is led by team commander Datuk Capt (R) R. Kumaravel, a former military man and assisted by SJAM area medical officers which consists of a team of three doctors and five staff nurses trained in handling emergencies.
In addition to learning how to treat minor injuries, members are trained to operate equipment such as jet-skis and rescue boats which are essential in search and rescue operations.
Mahadevan said he had received positive feedback since the Baywatch team was unveiled and had been urged to do the same for other beaches in the area.
“But we don’t have the manpower and the resources to do so at the moment.
“I can only hope the success of our team inspires others to join us and help save lives and make our beaches a safe place to be,” he said.

THE Thistle Hotels Group UK has moved into Asia with the launch of its first hotel, Thistle Port Dickson Resort, yesterday.
The hotel's general manager Dean Rossilli said with more than 40 years of experience in the industry, Thistle is ready to promote its brand in Asia.
"The choice of Port Dickson for the first hotel in Asia is based on the location of the beach resort which fulfills every need," he said in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, yesterday.
Rossilli said the resort' s location on the edge of the beach, surrounded by natural greenery, provides an apt background for various attractive activities.
"There are no other resorts like ours within the vicinity and we are proud to offer a resort with so many facilities.
"The resort also faces the Straits of Malacca with 80 per cent of the rooms providing the most beautiful view of the beach in Port Dickson," he said.
Thistle Port Dickson Resort offers 251 rooms packaged as Deluxe, Premium, Suites, Indigo and the Presidential Suite with rates of between RM428 and RM3,888 a night.
The resort, which covers 36.4ha of land, also has a dining hall which can accomodate 2,000 people, two tennis courts, three restaurants, two bars and three swimming pools, including one near the beach.
Rossilli said the resort, which began operations in June, was previously known as the Guoman Hotel and underwent refurbishing at a cost of RM20 million.
Thistle is part of the Guoman Hotel Management (UK) Ltd and is owned by Guocoland (Malaysia) Bhd, a subsidiary of the Hong Leong Group.
The Thistle Hotels group has 34 hotels in the UK, including 11 in central London. This makes it the largest hotel group in London in terms of rooms. - Bernama
rizalhakim August 3rd, 2009, 07:38 AM Resort set to raise the bar with its high standards of hospitality
By C.S. NATHAN
YOU are now in Thistle country, says the sign as you approach what is the first Asian hotel outside Britain for the Thistle group.
That alone is enough to pique the interest of curious travellers looking for a more luxurious brand of rest and relaxation just an hour’s drive south of Kuala Lumpur.
Located within a sprawling 36ha seafront site, Thistle Port Dickson was recently unveiled after a RM20mil facelift.
Formerly known as Guoman, the property, managed by Hong Leong Group subsidiary Thistle Hotels, is set to raise the bar among resort hotels in Port Dickson with its high standards of hospitality.

Perfect chill spot: For drinks and snacks with a view, head to Cumulus with its infinity pool deck, ocean in the horizon and entertainment provided by a resident deejay and live bands.
Poised to make a difference in the local hotel industry, the hotel offered something unique for all its guests, GuocoLand Malaysia managing director Paul Poh said.
“We are making a significant investment in the industry and will not waste this opportunity on a cookie-cutter approach to hotel management.
“Our resort provides the best of Asian hospitality coupled with the experience Thistle UK brings,” he said after the resort’s official launch by Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Ng Yen Yen recently.
Describing the hotel as premium high-end, Poh said Thistle PD would also benefit from the many other tourism attractions in one of the oldest beach resorts in the country.
“The Thistle Group will also invest heavily in driving incoming tourists to the area through various promotional activities and partnerships with the European travel trade.
“We are also in talks with two airlines to bring more inbound tourists to Thistle PD. Since we are located so close to KL and the KLIA, we must grab the opportunity to attract more tourists, particularly those from the Middle East and Europe,” he said.
Poh revealed the company would rehabilitate certain rocky sections of Thistle PD’s beachfront. This, he said, would be carried out after Hari Raya.
“We will need to bring in sand for the purpose. The area is quite rocky and we wish to create more sandbacks where sailing, canoeing, snorkelling and wind-surfing activities could be carried out,” he said, stressing that this would be completed within four months.
Taking a look around the property, one cannot help but agree with Poh when he suggests that the resort hotel is not quite like others in the area.
“We are thrilled to offer one venue with so many options. Our beach location and lush green backdrop are an ideal spot for a wide range of activities, from water sports to other recreational activities such as SWAT camp training or the eco-park trail,” Poh said, adding that Thistle PD had been given a “soft” five-star rating by the authorities.
Thistle PD general manager Dean Rossilli said the resort was also an excellent MICE venue, with boardrooms and conference space available year-round.
“We are situated along one of the best stretches of beach and almost all our rooms offer a breathtaking view of the Straits of Malacca. It’s the perfect spot for business or leisure.

Inviting: The lobby, with its high ceilings and unimposing decor, plus the sea breeze that greets one, welcomes visitors to a respite from the hustle and bustle.
“Port Dickson’s geographical positioning, facilities and accessibility make it a perfect destination for just about anything you have in mind,” he said.
Rossilli brings with him a wealth of experience, having served in and managed hotels in his native Australia, England, Scotland and the United States.
The 251-room resort hotel has extensive facilities, including a spacious ballroom, nine function rooms, three restaurants, three outdoor swimming pools, a fitness centre and health spa, and a breathtaking view of the straits, making it an ideal retreat for jaded travellers in need of some pampering.
You know you are in for a treat the minute you walk into the hotel’s lobby, with its high ceilings, unimposing decor and the sea breeze that greets you – a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle.
Take a breather and step into the aptly named lobby lounge Steps, which lets visitors bask in the luxury of panoramic view of the ocean.
Positioned for the high-end market, the resort also sets itself apart by offering classy dining options.
Patrons have a variety of options at the hotel, which include Fresh, a contemporary-style restaurant offering a daily international buffet spread; Chinoise, an outlet showcasing Oriental cuisine, and Glass, which boasts a sophisticated dining experience and an impressive wine list.
For drinks and snacks with a view, head to Cumulus, the perfect chill spot with its infinity pool deck, ocean in the horizon and entertainment provided by a resident deejay and live bands.
Cumulus also offers three VIP rooms for private parties.
Visitors can choose from its deluxe and premium rooms and suites with rates between RM368++ and RM3,888++ per night.
The seaside “ocean lawn” is also a great venue for outdoor events like weddings as it can host up to 2,000 people.
Thistle PD marks the hotel chain’s debut into the Asian region. The hotel group, which has a portfolio of 34 hotels in Britain has since opened Thistle Johor Baru (formerly known as Hyatt JB).

2009/09/17
PORT DICKSON: While political parties are busy preparing their campaign materials and strategies for the Bagan Pinang state by-election, hotel and resort operators at this beach resort are looking forward to a hectic but profitable time.
According to hoteliers, most of them received almost 60 per cent bookings under individual names from Oct 1 to 12.
One hotelier said: "We began receiving bookings as soon as the Election Commission announced the dates for the by-election.
"However, we have yet to receive group bookings from political parties. We expect this to pour in after the Hari Raya celebrations."
There are 25 three-star and four-star hotels and resorts registered with the Malaysian Association of Hotels (Negri Sembilan chapter), while there are more than 30 budget hotels and chalets here.
Another hotelier said: "There are more than 7,000 rooms and apartments in Port Dickson and we expect all of these to be snapped up by the end of this month."
He said hoteliers and resort operators had employed more part-time staff and ensured sufficient food and other supplies. "During that period, there will also be the weekend holiday crowd (Oct 3 to 4 and 10 to 11), which is going to be hectic for us. However, we expect it to be a profitable time."
sepul September 18th, 2009, 10:06 AM the beaches in terengganu are much prettier than PD.. on sunny day Pantai Bari is so beautiful (somehow resembles a carribean beach cuz the sea is very beautiful n azure), nearby Pantai Merang too is so beautiful fronting pulau bidong, pulau lang tgah, redang n perhentians n the sea is super clear and dark azure in colour.. I walked far into the water till it was at my chin n still could very clearly see my feet through the azure water (but there was a lot of small stingrays in this area).. not to mention the vastest beach in t'ganu, Pantai Batu Burok, just at the back of the state hospital in the city of KT itself tho the water around here n chendering aren't as clear as other beaches in t'ganu tho it can easily beat that of PD.. what i want to say here is if these beautiful beaches could be exploited optimally e.g. building world class resorts n promote water sport etc, they can generate the economy of local people whom most of them residing by the beaches are coastal fishermen (except in chendering, the beach is filled with premises selling local products).. in consideration of the environment of course..

rizalhakim September 30th, 2009, 04:38 AM PD now known as Army Town
By ZULKIFLI ABD RAHMAN
PORT DICKSON: This popular beach resort will be known as “Port Dickson — Army Town” in recognition of the services of the army in defending the country.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who made the announcement, said that as a beachfront town, Port Dickson also housed a large concentration of army camps and training centres, which had produced many recruits.
“The armed forces, especially the army, has made a lot of sacrifices for the sake of national peace. The new term Army Town should be given to Port Dickson, which houses tens of thousands of army personnel,” he said at the Hari Raya gathering at the Army Basic Training Centre (Pusasda) headquarters here yesterday.
Najib said the Government would implement a number of major development projects for the army in Port Dickson, to make the name Army Town more meaningful.
He called on Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the top brass in the army to provide ideas on how to develop the Army Town.
Najib said historically, as the largest partner in the armed forces, the army had carried out their duties well and exhibited professionalism in fighting off the threat of the communist terrorists and the Confrontation.
He reminded the people that the threat of communist terrorism still existed in countries such as the Philippines and Nepal, adding that the Government appreciated the army’s duties. Najib said he had been Defence Minister for 14 years and had implemented many programmes for the benefit of the armed forces — including increasing their remuneration and providing new equipment.
He hoped Ahmad Zahid would continue to provide his best service to the soldiers in his capacity as Defence Minister.

2009/10/02
PORT DICKSON: Members of the Malaysian Ex-Servicemen's Association here said they felt proud that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak declared Port Dickson an "Army Town" in their honour on Tuesday.
"We were very proud when we heard this and are grateful to the prime minister for acknowledging our sacrifices," said Major (R) Ghazali Abdullah, 53.
"This proves that the government recognises the deeds of the soldiers, many of whom had lost their lives for the country."
Ghazali, who is also the association's Port Dickson branch deputy chief, said Port Dickson should be developed further not only as a tourist destination, but also to reflect the strong armed forces' presence.
"The armed forces' history began in Port Dickson in 1933 as part of the experimental Malay Regiment.
"Most of the people here are army officers and veterans and it is befitting to call it an 'Army Town'," said Ghazali, who served in the army for 28 years.
Another veteran, Abdul Hamid Mahmud, 47, a retired warrant officer, concurred with Ghazali.
"We are proud to be part of a historic town and we hope visitors who come to Port Dickson will appreciate the area, not only for the beaches but the army's presence as well."
Expressing his gratitude for all the government had done for veterans, he however said there were retired officers who found it difficult to secure jobs, and hoped that the government would look into this.
"There are not many job opportunities for us when we leave the armed forces and I hope something can be done."
Retired Corporal Bahari Latib, 53, said it was an honour for him to serve the country and for Port Dickson to be recognised as an "Army Town".
"I have served in the armed forces for 18 years and lived in Port Dickson for 11 years.
"I feel it is timely that the place is recognised for being a town affiliated with the army, considering there are many army camps here and the rich history behind it."

EAGLE Ranch Resort, owned by Traksons Corp (M) Sdn Bhd plans to spend more than RM15 million to develop new facilities in the next few years in efforts to turn the resort into a major tourist attraction, and in same time further boost revenue.
Located on the 14th Mile of Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, and about one-and-a-half-hours drive from Kuala Lumpur, the resort is the only place in Malaysia and Southeast Asia which offers the unique concept of a Home-On-The-Ranch holiday.
The choice of accommodation includes cowboy styled log cabins, kampung houses over a fishing pond, paddock chalets, bandwagons and tepees.
At present, it can accommodate up to 400 people at one time but the numbers are expected to increase with the expansion of its facilities.
"So far, we have developed 6.4ha out of the 12.8ha we have and invested more than RM10 million since we opened for commercial operations in 2004," said its managing director Tee Wah Kuang.
He said Traksons is now seeking investors with the business expertise and resources to take it to the next stage of development and realise the full potential of the resort and its property.
Tee said the company is offering potential investors a unique opportunity to acquire or participate as a strategic equity partner.
Among near future developments include tree-top houses and villas facing the sea front, a clubhouse and many more.
Traksons is principally involved in the business of resort, recreational and sports facilities operations.
Datuk Radzali Hassan who is also Eagle Ranch executive chairman holds a 45 per cent stake in the firm while Faizal Rahim Moidunny holds 30 per cent and Tee with 25 per cent.
Eagle Ranch Resort earned about RM8 million in revenue in 2004, with contribution coming mainly from rooms, sports activities, and food and beverages.
"Our average occupancy level is at 45 per cent (comparable to PD industry average) and there is potential to grow this up to the 75 per cent levels which should be the measure of good performance for strong profitability and returns," said Radzali who was also present at the interview.
He forecast sales to jump to RM21.9 million by 2013 or some 120 per cent growth over 2007. Current net profit margin is about 25 per cent.
Radzali said apart from family holidays, Eagle Ranch mainly caters to corporate events like team-building and leadership programmes as well as family days.
nazrey October 6th, 2009, 04:40 PM Port Dickson Will Be Developed According To Zones, Says Mohamad
October 06, 2009 21:41 PM
PORT DICKSON, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Port Dickson will be developed according to zones, namely industrial and tourism so as to bring about planned and structured development, said Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
He said the tourism zone would stretch from Port Dickson town till Batu 13 while the industrial zone from Lukut up to the Negeri Sembilan/Selangor border in Sepang.
"Although Port Dickson is famous as a tourist destination, the district also holds potential for industries," he told reporters after presenting prizes to the winners of a telematch competition in Taman Eastern here Tuesday.
He added that heavy and light industries would be developed in the industrial zone.
"We want development in Port Dickon to be carried out in a structured manner and not done haphazardly. If housing it must be housing only, no mixing of housing and industries and likewise for tourism.
"It will also help in matters of environmental pollution," he said.
Asked what the benefit was in declaring Port Dickson a garrison town, Mohd said the state government would be establishing a task force which would be headed by himself and comprising respresentatives from the military apart from development experts to draw up the terms of reference on the business model for it.
"It could take the form of Westpoint or Sandhurst ... the main concern is that it must be beneficial to members of the military here and their familes.
"There are a lot of things we plan to do like building a fully residential school where 80 per cent of its students are children of military personnel, upgrade the Army's Museum here which even now is a tourist attraction and many more," he said, adding that all the plans would discussed with the Defence Ministry first before being brought to the Cabinet for approval.

rizalhakim October 7th, 2009, 07:13 AM Bring glory back to PD
NOW that the national spotlight is on Port Dickson, I hope the Government, in particular the Negri Sembilan state government in collaboration with the Tourism Ministry will seriously focus on its development as a haven for local and foreign tourists.
Its proximity to Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and even Singapore makes Port Dickson an ideal location for tourists seeking a quick weekend getaway and for those wishing to have a longer seaside holiday.
Looking at PD’s potential as a popular tourist destination, one wonders why the state government did not have the foresight to augment its development in a better-planned way. One wonders why they did not realise that in order to woo holiday seekers, a beach resort needs more than economy hotels and cheap apartments scattered along the Teluk Kemang beach front.
In fact, some of these developments are so badly designed that they have become architectural eyesores alongside the environmental pollution of the area’s beaches and waters. At the top of the agenda must be the completion or replacement of these projects with more credible ones and a spring cleaning.
Old buildings like the rambling government guest houses tucked into the coves and lagoons have been demolished and along with it the state’s history and legacy. Ru Lodge, the VVIP guest house with its sprawling grounds and bridge connecting it to an off-shore gazebo, once hosted the country’s rulers, leaders and visitors.
When the tasteful colonial structure should have been restored and preserved for posterity, it was torn down and replaced by an uninspiring modern development.
The Blue Lagoon and the fifth mile stretch in front of the army camp once boasted clear waters and clean sands and were the haunt of holiday makers and picknickers who received an extra bonus with the amazing views of the horizon and sunsets.
Quaint motels like the Si Rusa with its friendly water sports and vendors selling mengkuang hats have been replaced by the heavily commercialised larger hotels and craft markets.
When a national site like Port Dickson is been blessed with scenic landscape, the effort to develop it for modern life and its amenities must be done with the utmost care and attention.
The development of infrastructure must be planned and streamlined tastefully, not in the haphazard way that PD has endured in the last 25 years. Let’s hope that with the promised reinstatement of Tan Sri Isa Samad as ADUN of Bagan Pinang, Port Dickson will enjoy the status it deserves as an attractive tourist destination equipped with the best facilities for a fulfilling beach holiday.

nazrey October 28th, 2009, 07:09 AM KL Metro plans to launch projects worth RM300m
By Sharen Kaur Published: 2009/10/28
Boutique property developer Kuala Lumpur Metro Group will launch two resort developments and a housing project worth a combined RM300 million in Port Dickson, Bangi, and Penang, over the next eight months.
The low-profile group, which made a mark in property development when it launched its landmark project - the Legend International Water Homes in Port Dickson in 2003, is also planning to expand into China and Vietnam.
"We are looking at resort developments in China and Vietnam. We believe there is a market for resort-type products. We have identified the local partners, but plans are still preliminary," said KL Metro managing director Datuk Low Tak Fatt.
Locally, KL Metro will launch Phase 3 of the Legend Water Homes valued at RM45 million and 30 units of semi-detached houses in Bangi, worth RM25 million, by December.
By mid-2010, KL Metro will launch The Hibiscus in Penang, which features 460 units of five-star water homes at Teluk Kumbar.
The Penang development is worth some RM200 million and KL Metro is targeting buyers from Asia Pacific, Europe and the Middle East.
"Demand for water homes in Malaysia is greater than supply so we expect our projects to do very well," Low told a media briefing on the second phase of its Legend Water Homes in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Phase 2, which will open on November 1, offers 166 water homes, 44 garden chalets and 39 sky pool villas.
Priced from RM400,000 to RM700,000 each, some RM160 million or 99 per cent of the properties have been sold, Low said.
Majority of the buyers were from the Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, the Middle East and some European countries, with an option to lease back at an 8 per cent gross rental income return a year.
Low said he expects 50 per cent occupancy in the first year, with average promotional room rates starting from RM550 per night to RM900.
He said KL Metro is aiming for occupancy to grow by 10 per cent per year via aggressive marketing.
"Despite the downturn of the economy and credit crunch worldwide, we still managed to complete Phase 2 three months ahead and sell all the units. We are proud of this development," Low said.
Phase 1, which has 329 units, was completed in 2006 and fully sold within two years.
The Balinese-themed resort took the "Best Architecture" and "Best Development" titles at the CNBC International Property Awards in London in 2007.

Also present were Negri Sembilan Tourism, Culture, Arts, Heritage and Unity Committee chairman Mohammad Razi Kail, Libur magazine editor Azlie Halim and Karangkraf Group executive publisher Firdaus Hussamuddin.
”This category is one that we aspire to win and we are thankful to the Government and corporate sector for choosing us as their preferred venue for family days,” Cheong said.
Cheong said there would be a back-to-back celebrations with employees as the hotel’s Anna Thai restaurant was also voted the best food outlet in Negri Sembilan for 2009 recently.
”Both wins are testament to the skills of the whole team in meeting the needs and expectations of our guests.
”Once an award is in the bag, it is much easier to lose it than to hold on to it,” he said, adding that the Libur Excellence Awards was the benchmark within the hospitality industry which helped to promote a healthy competition among resorts and hospitality properties.
The awards are an initiative by the Karangkraf Group recognising popularity, excellence and distinction in national tourist destinations.

SHAH FIRDAUS January 14th, 2010, 06:59 PM Pantai PD selamat dikunjungi
Oleh MOHAMMAD YASIR JAAFAR
utusanN9@utusan.com.my
PORT DICKSON 13 Jan. - ''Pantai peranginan Port Dickson selamat.

February 18, 2010, Thursday
KUALA LUMPUR: For Port Dickson, the Chinese New Year began with a demand for accomodation, soaring 95 per cent. This was evident for the period of between Feb 13 and 15, a survey conducted by the Negeri Sembilan Tourism Malaysia Office revealed.
Sixty-five hotels, resorts, apartments, bungalows and recreational clubs were on hand to cater to the holidaymakers, with a total of 7,694 rooms.
Tourism Malaysia Office director Hishamuddin Mustafa said, to ensure the safety of visitors, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras had been installed at various locations and patrols increased by local authorities.
In a statement yesterday, he said that among other attractions expected to receive a flood of visitors were the Army Museum, the PD Mini Zoo, the PD Ostrich Show Farm and the Lukut Fort and Museum.
“Port Dickson’s 18km-long beach and tourist accomodations are what makes it a popular choice for local and foreign tourists, especially Singaporeans, during the festive season,” noted Hishamuddin.

By SARBAN SINGH Friday March 12, 2010
PORT DICKSON: Campaigns by the state government to promote this resort town as the premier tourist destination hit a snag when authorities closed almost half of the 31 food premises inspected here recently for two weeks for poor hygiene.
And this barely days before the week-long school holidays begin.
State health director Datin Dr Zailan Adnan said the operation was conducted to ensure the eateries prepared food hygienically as holidaymakers would descend on the resort town in droves next week.
“This is our strategy to ensure the restaurateurs adhere to all provisions under the Food Act 1983,” she said, adding that 14 out of the 15 premises ordered closed were restaurants.
The operation was held along the popular beach stretches from KM1 to KM14 Jalan Pantai.
Forty-five health officers from here, Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, Tampin, Rembau and 14 from the Port Dickson Municipal Council (MPPD) took part in the exercise.
“The restaurants were ordered closed as they scored less than 65% (cleanliness) in our assessment.
“The proprietors must within the two weeks take steps to remedy this,” she said, adding that the MPPD officers also issued 31 compounds totalling RM9,000.
Dr Zailan said that among the other reasons the premises were ordered closed were because the food handlers failed to get typhoid jabs, wear aprons and cover their heads.
“Their cooking utensils were also broken or dirty.
“Some did not even have a proper place to wash their dishes or to dispose their garbage,” she said, adding that some of the restaurants had dirty floors, walls and ceilings.
“We don’t want the patrons to become victims of food poisoning or contract typhoid or cholera,” Dr Zailan said.

Gulf Petroleum is leading a consortium of Gulf banks and energy firms to build a RM17 billion integrated oil and gas complex in Port Dickson next year
Qatar-Based Gulf Petroleum Ltd expects to start construction of a US$5 billion (RM17 billion) integrated oil and gas complex in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, next year.
"Once we have finalised all matters, including the purchase of 1,000-1,500 acres of land in Port Dickson, we expect to begin work next year," Gulf Petroleum (M) Sdn Bhd (GPLM) chairman Dr Omar Zuhair Abdulgader Hafiz told reporters after a signing ceremony in Seremban on Wednesday.
GPLM signed several agreements and memorandums of agreement, including with South Korea's GS Engineering & Construction, Saudi Arabia's Haykalah, the United Arab Emirates' Geodynamics International Co and Singapore's Gas & Oil Support Services Pte Ltd.
The agreements covered the financial, construction, operation and maintenance, equity-holding, off-take arrangement for end-products, and technical aspects of the project.
Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan witnessed the signing between the company and its consortium partners.
Gulf Petroleum is leading a consortium of Gulf banks and energy firms to build the integrated complex, which will serve as the hub for its Asia-Pacific activities. The complex will have an oil refinery, a petrochemical project and storage facilities.
Omar Zuhair expects restructuring of the current shareholders and other technical aspects of the project to be completed by end-May.
"We have groups from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Malaysia, and expect others from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman to come on board," he said.
GPLM managing director Nor Azmi Abdullah said it had received proposals from "various groups from the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Asia-Pacific, Europe and the US, including foreign governments", to participate in the project.
It was reported that Gulf Petroleum would invest between US$1.5 billion and US$2 billion (RM5 billion and RM7 billion) to build an oil refinery with capacity of 100,000-150,000 barrels a day under the first phase.
Mohamad Hasan said that Port Dickson was chosen to be the site because of its strategic location on the international seafaring route and the existence of refineries in the area.
He said the state government had approved the project in principal, taking into account its positive impact on the country, and the state's economy in particular.
"We are proud that Port Dickson was chosen, and am confident that it will not only generate growth for the local economy but also open up new job opportunities for locals in the area," he added.

PORT DICKSON: Thistle Port Dickson Resort (TPDR), a 251-room five-star resort which opened its doors just over a year ago, is starting its second phase of refurbishments.
TPDR general manager Dean Rossilli said the added investment is expected to further boost the resort as a favourite destination among travellers to Port Dickson.
"This investment is important for TPDR to ensure that our guests experience unparalleled world-class facilities. We hope with this upgrade we will be able to attract more international and local tourism to the area and play a pivotal role in boosting the sector," he said here on Wednesday, Aug 18.
The second phase will involve upgrading, restoration and construction of a total of 119 garden view rooms, a 3,000-square foot spa and wellness centre under Thistle's own brand called Santai Spa and some mechanical and engineering works at specific areas of the resort.
The meeting rooms will also be undergoing a makeover with new carpets, enhanced lighting and fresh wall coverings.
The Santai Spa will offer a unique combination of East and West wellness treatments, Rossilli said.
"We are also excited to introduce our own brand of spa for the Thistle Hotels chain expansion in Asia," he said.
Rossilli said in the later part of the refurbishment phase, TPDR's nine-hole golf course, a popular destination among Kuala Lumpur golfers, will also be upgraded.
"The 4,552-metre par 35 course will add to the many facilities enjoyed by guests at the hotel. Avid golfers can expect a challenging course, maintaining its signature Hole 8, a par 3 course as its signature hole with the tee stunningly set at 15 metres above sea level," he said.
"Cumulus Beach Bar, a trendy outlet in Port Dickson featuring live bands and an infinity pool, will be undergoing works during this period too."
Rossilli said the resort, the first to be opened in Asia by United Kingdom hospitality giant Thistle Hotels, will remain open during the renovation period and measures will be put in place to ensure minimal disruptions to guests.

rizalhakim January 14th, 2011, 05:55 AM UCSI plans RM1.13b expansion drive
By Azlan Abu Bakar
Published: 2011/01/14
DIVERSIFIED firm UCSI Group plans to spend up to RM1.13 billion to expand its business and education-based operations over five years, its chairman Datuk Peter Ng said.
The group, which operates the UCSI University, is in the midst of developing three five-star hotels in Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and Bandar Springhill in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan.
Ng said in Bandar Springhill, UCSI is planning to build a university medical centre on 13.9ha with investments of RM500 million, besides a RM200 million resort hotel and convention centre.
Bandar Springhill is also where UCSI University's main campus will be located.
"Initially, the medical centre will hold 400 beds and will expand to 1,000 beds," he said, noting that it will feature state-of-the-art technology and a hostel for nursing students.
The resort hotel and convention centre, meanwhile, are being built on a 5.6ha site comprising a 17-storey hotel with 319 rooms.
Ng said the hotel will feature nine restaurants and eateries with indoor and outdoor seating, a sandy beach, a full-service spa, a roof garden, four meeting rooms, conference and seminar rooms, function hall and grand ballroom.
A 14-storey residential block for students with 390 rooms will be built next to the hotel.
"These projects are expected to be completed by May 2012," Ng said after unveiling the expansion plans at UCSI University's 25th anniversary celebration in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Also present was UCSI University chancellor Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Arshad.
Ng said UCSI University is committed to strengthening Malaysia's position as an international tourist destination.
"To ensure the success of the university medical centre, we have to be involved in health tourism," he said.
He said at present, Malaysia's health tourism was still low, with revenue of RM350 million recorded in 2010.
Ng said this was due to lack of hospitals involved in the niche market.
Apart from the two projects, UCSI is also setting up an international school in Bandar Springhill costing RM50 million whereby the project is due for completion by year-end.
Others include UCSI CityIsland Hotel in Kuching worth RM180 million, a RM200 million UCSI tower and hotel in Cheras and an office building in Cyberjaya.
"We are funding all of the projects via internal funds, disposable of fixed assets and borrowings," Ng said.
The government recently appointed UCSI University to lead a national initiative to help the country achieve its goal of becoming a high-income nation by 2020.
The university will chair the hospitality and tourism discipline cluster (Entry Point Project 10), one of the 131 projects under the Economic Transformation Programme.

SEREMBAN: The country’s first proposed mainland-to-island cable car will be built in Port Dickson as part of the RM2bil PD Waterfront project.
The cable car project, spanning 750m, will link the new PD Waterfront township with Pulau Arang, an uninhabited island.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the project would further help boost tourism in Port Dickson.
“The project owners have decided to add the cable car in order to add value to the PD Waterfront project. I am confident that this will be an instant crowd puller as it will be suspended above the sea,” he said.
Mohamad said phase one of the project, carried out on the 2.5ha island by a listed company, had been completed, adding that this included shophouses, a seafood restaurant with a capacity for 2,000 people, a hypermarket, and several other facilities.
Phases two and three, he added, would see the construction of convention and medical centres, hotels, a private college, an international school, a theme park, factory outlets, a recreational park and apartments.
“We have also asked the developer to build a multi-purpose jetty for a more organised entry of foreign tourists,” he said, adding that the state had also applied to the Federal Government for the construction of a CIQ (Customs, Immigration and Quarantine) centre there, and a duty free zone.
“That will be another incentive for tourists to come over any time of the week,” he said, adding that there would also be a 2km-long boardwalk along the beach.
Mohamad said the entire project would be financed by the private sector, adding that the state government planned to double the number of tourist arrivals to the resort town, which now stands at 1.5 million annually.
On a separate matter, Mohamad said that the state government would also pay a half-month bonus or a minimum RM500 to all state employees in conjunction with Hari Raya.

it was still fresh. moreover, it's the first mcdonald's in PD. so of course the PD folks got very excited and decided to eat in mcdonald's every single day of the week.
but this seafront/waterfront is ace. hope to see more exciting projects there. a decent shopping mall with a cinema would be nice since PD currently has NONE, which is quite surprising to me.
