The national park of Gouraya is one of the coastal national parks of Algeria. It is located in Béjaïa Province, near the town of Sidi Touati. The park is located 30 kilometers north of Jijel. The park includes the 660 meter (2.165 feet) high mountain of Gouraya, where the park got its name, in addition to many beaches and cliffs, which make the park a swimming destination for many Algerians. It is a UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserve, with a varied flora and fauna, including Barbary Macaques and jackals who live in the forests in this park; the Barbary Macaque is a primate with a very restricted range of portions of northwestern North Africa and disjunctively in Gibraltar.

Le parc national de Gouraya se situe au nord de l'Algérie, en Kabylie, au bord de la Méditerranée, dans la wilaya de Béjaïa. Avec de merveilleuses falaises, c'est un des sites naturels les plus beaux qu'on puisse visiter. C'est une zone protégée. Elle accueille environ 1 200 000 visiteurs par an, surtout en période estivale. Ses plages de sables et ses eaux cristallines participent à son attrait. Le mont Gouraya avec ses 660 m domine tout le parc.

Taking its name from the Djurdjuran massif that lies within its boundaries, the Djurdjura National Park in the North West Region of Algeria consists of three main sections – eastern, western and central - extending into the districts of Bouira to the south, and Tizi-Ouizou to the north. With its many dense forests, deep gorges and unusual grottoes, the park is widely considered to have some of the most beautiful scenery in Algeria. It is also home to varied flora and fauna, including the endangered Barbary Macaque.

The outstanding physical features of the Djurdjura National Park include the mountain peaks of the Djurdjuran massif of the Grande Kabylie, part of the Tell Atlas Mountains of Algeria. At a height of 2,308 meters, Lalla Khedidja is the highest part of the Djurdjuran massif, and one of Algeria’s highest mountains. The north escarpment face of the massif contains deep valleys, potholes, fissures and gorges, with ancient glacial action having left its mark on a number of the cliff faces. The park is well watered by springs and streams and has a number of glacial lakes within its boundaries. On the south-eastern slopes of the Djurdjuran massif there are dense Atlas cedar forest groves, while at lower altitudes there are endemic pine and juniper trees.

The Djurdjura National Park is a refuge for a wide variety of fauna including hyena, wild boar, crested porcupine, hare, wild cat, jackal, mongoose, weasel, red fox and the Barbary Macaque, sometimes referred to as the Barbary Ape, although it is in fact not an ape, but a member of the Old World monkey species. Birding enthusiasts will appreciate the variety of birds in the park, which include a number of raptors such as the black vulture, booted eagle, long-legged buzzard, kestrel, golden eagle and peregrine falcon.

The main visitor center for the Djurdjura National Park is located at Tikjda, along with hotels and campsites. The park was created in September 1925 under the French colonial government of the time, and following the independence of Algeria it was re-established as a national park to protect this unique ecosystem for the people of Algeria, and for visitors to this fascinating country to enjoy.

Tikjda est un site touristique situé à l’est de la wilaya de Bouira, à 1475m d'altitude au coeur de la chaîne montagneuse du Djurdjura et siège administratif du Parc National et Biosphère de l'UNESCO du même nom). Tikjda est dans les années 1990 devenue une commune, est connue à l’échelle nationale, et encore peu à l'échelle internationale mis à part des résidents étrangers en Algérie. Tikjda est aussi une structure réservée, ou le tourisme, à l'entraînement des sportifs en condition d'altitude : footballeurs avec le stade d'Asswil - depuis la fin des années 1990 -, pour les pratiquants d'arts martiaux, une ancienne tradition, outre bien entendu le sport phare de la station : le ski dont la saison s'étale de décembre à avril, tout comme dans les Alpes. Le site est particulièrement exposé à un cumul neigeux exceptionnel pour la région Méditerranée (comparable à la région du Mercantour dû à la minéralité ferrugineuse du sous sol et la proximité de la Mer Méditerranée.

La station de Tikjda, dont le nom provient de "Tgjdit", en référence aux puissants troncs des cèdres ayant servi comme piliers centraux et symboliques aux maisons kabyles traditionnelles, permet la pratique régulière de tous les sport de montagne, été comme hiver. La piste de "Tigounatin" aménagée dans la cédraien a toujours été la plus populaire contrairement à celles vertigineuses et nues de l'Akouker - les téléskis n'ont fonctionné que quelques semaines avant que le climat tempétueux ne les neutralise. Les randonnées, le trekking, la spéléologie et l’escalade de haut niveau (au vu des aiguilles calcaires qui composent la chaîne du Djurdjura), sont aussi très populaires avec l'introduction encore timide du parapente en dehors de quelques pratiquants chevronnés. La station compte 2 télésièges, plusieurs remontées mécaniques aujourd'hui obsolètes et hors d'usage, qui permettaient aux skieurs du chalet du Kef et de l'Hôtel Djurdjura de rejoindre le haut des pistes.

Tikjda est en outre le siège d'une riche flore et faune endémiques (macaques, lynx, sitelles, aigles royaux, vautours, faucons, chacals, sangliers, panthères...cèdres, chênes verts et zéens, pins noirs, érables, peupliers géants...). Quelques Français y ont implanté plusieurs chalets privés ou hôtels tel le Chalet du Kef (bâti sur un ancien kef, c'est-à-dire baraquement de chasseurs), la Résidence des Chemineaux, le Refuge du Djurdjura - devenu après l'indépendance le complexe hôtelier avec son auberge et ses appartements « Djurdjura ».

Mr. Muller, Allemand d'origine et partisan de l'indépendance de l'Algérie a longtemps et fermement présidé aux destinées du Parc National du Djurdjura avant d'être nommé à la fin des années 1980 à la direction du Parc National du Tassili (il fut à l'origine de l'initiative heureuse de l'arrêt en Algérie du polluant Paris-Dakkar qui traversait ce site fragile - . Il aura aussi fondé l'école de ski, aujourd’hui caserne de la Garde Communale de Tikjda. Un agent forestier y donne aux visiteurs des informations et recommandations importantes sur les sites du Parc ainsi que les divers restrictions propre à la gestion des parcs nationaux que doivent observer les visiteurs : interdiction d'arracher/cueillir les plantes, le ramassage des graines, la coupe du bois, nourrir les animaux, la sensibilisation aux risques d'incendies.

Tikjda constitue le point de départ pour de multiples périples panoramiques surplombant au nord le Massif Central de Kabylie où se nichent en nids d'aigles près d'un millier de villages berbères, et au sud, la kabylie de la Soummam et celle des Bibans, riches plaines fertiles du pays kabyles aux abords des Hauts Plateaux. Sinon, une infinité de chemins pastoraux de haute montagnes permettent de passer d'un massif à l'autre (rejoindre Tala Guilef au nord de la chaîne occidentale du Djurdjura, le Haïzer, de découvrir les cédraies endémiques soit en touffes isolées en très haute altitude (au-delà des 2000m), soit en forêts telles celles de Tigounatine, Tiwlalt, ou plus loin, la fameuse forêt des At Ouabanes (cèdres/chaînes/érables/peupliers/mélèzes dont les couleurs revêtent celles de l'été indien nord-américain), siège de nombreuses légendes et comptes kabyles. Depuis tikjda on peut rejoindre Tamda Goulmin (le bassin du lac), une sorte de marre, ou lac, d'altitude assez particulier, et bien d'autres.

Enfin, Tikjda offre le plus beau point de vue sur les sommets phares du Djurdjura : la Pyramide de Tamgout Amghor Lalla Khlidja (plus connue sous Lalla Khedidja, 2308m), et Aqerru Timedwin, vertigineuse montagne nue aux paysages lunaires et pictée sur sa crêtes de nombreux bassins naturels ou de profonds "trous" ou se nichent eau et glaces dites "éternelles" (d'où son nom de Timedwin), alimentant les innombrables sources qui coulent continuellement de part et d'autre de ses versants.

La zone humide du Lac de Fetzara

Le lac Fetzara s’allonge sur 17 kilomètres d’Est en Ouest de la ville d’Annaba à l’extrême Est de l’Algérie et sur 13 kilomètres dans sa partie la plus large. Le plan d’eau libre, dont l’eau douce est relativement temporaire selon l’intensité de la saison des pluies dont il dépend presque exclusivement, est généralement d’une étendue de plus de 5.800 hectares, auxquelles se rajoutent 4.000 hectares de terres inondables en saison hivernale constituant ainsi de vastes prairies humides.

Cette zone humide, sur le plan ornithologique, était au début du 20e siècle le site de nidification et d’hivernage le plus important de l’Est, après des travaux d’assèchement effectués durant l’époque coloniale, le lac s’est asséché durant de longues années et, de ce fait, a perdu ses qualités de site de nidification le plus important notamment pour la nidification de 12 espèces d’Anatidés, dont accidentellement, l’oie cendrée.

Lac de Réghaïa : Un lieu de villégiature et de détente

Le site d’importance internationale est un réservoir de biodiversité, mais aussi un lieu de villégiature par excellence.

Le long d’une roselière sur une route sinueuse bordée d’une ceinture étroite de maquis que caractérise une végétation, l’entrée de la réserve naturelle de Réghaïa n’est perceptible qu’au dernier virage de la tortueuse route. A peine le portail franchi, c’est une nature radieuse qui s’offre au regard des visiteurs. Le rivage sur la gauche est ponctué par de petits débarcadères presque enfouis sous une végétation à grosses tiges, mais qui laisse apparaître au loin des nuées d’oiseaux. Sur le flanc droit, ce sont les agencements dédiés au public qui se mêlent à une végétation merveilleusement entretenue. Bien qu’aménagé, le lac n’est guère visité.

L’allée principale de la réserve se trouve ainsi désertée et n’est foulée que par les travailleurs du site qui vaquent à leurs occupations. « La réserve est dotée de nombreuses commodités consacrées aux visiteurs, telles que les aires de jeu, les cafétérias, les kiosques et les toilettes », nous indique-t-on sur place. En effet, les promeneurs peuvent, le temps d’une virée à la réserve, savourer des boissons tout en contemplant le lac et sa population d’oiseaux, ou s’asseoir sur l’un des bancs confectionnés à partir de troncs d’arbres. Les enfants, peuvent s’adonner aux plaisirs des balançoires et des toboggans installés entre les arbres.

Pour les promeneurs, en dehors de l’allée principale, des sentiers pédestres leurs sont spécialement aménagés. « La réserve a été fermée au public pendant un laps de temps, elle n’a rouvert ses portes que dernièrement, et c’est la raison pour laquelle les visiteurs se font rares », affirme un travailleur de la réserve. Avec la réouverture du site, qui de par le passé s’est forgé une réputation de lieu de villégiature par excellence, les travailleurs espèrent qu’il retrouvera, dans les prochains jours, sa dynamique d’antan. D’autant plus qu’une bonne partie du lieu est exclusivement réservée aux visiteurs. Elle est délimitée par un autre portail qui se trouve sur l’allée principale et qui scinde la réserve en deux parties distinctes, indiquant que les promeneurs doivent s’abstenir de le franchir car c’est une zone qui sert de lieu de ponte : les nids y sont à foison, et il n’est nullement permis au grand public de perturber ce processus fragile.

Lac de Réghaïa d’Alger : Une réserve naturelle nationale

Situé à 30 km à l'est d'Alger, le lac naturel de Réghaïa et ses alentours sont un patrimoine naturel protégé inscrit, depuis 2003, sur la liste de la convention internationale des zones humides d'importance internationale "Ramsar" et appelé à devenir prochainement une réserve naturelle nationale.
La zone humide côtière et marine du lac de Réghaïa s'étend sur une superficie globale de 1.500 hectares (ha) dont 75 ha occupés par un bassin d'eau douce, 600 ha de terres continentales et 900 ha d'espace marin.
Elle comprend cinq écosystèmes différents :
1- Un écosystème marin représenté par un îlot appelé "île Agueli" et qui est une zone de frayère d'une douzaine de poissons et crustacés dont la "grande cigale de mer +Scyllarus Latus+". L'îlot est aussi une zone de nidification de deux espèces d'oiseaux à savoir "le Goéland leucophée et le grand Cormoran". Il constitue, par ailleurs, une zone de flore remarquable.
2- Un écosystème marécageux composé d'un pré et des bords d'eau, milieu intermédiaire entre les prairies et les oueds en amont et en aval du lac. C'est la partie idéale pour la nidification de nombreuses espèces.
3 - Un écosystème dunaire qui est une barrière naturelle entre la mer et le lac, colonisé par une végétation à base de groupements à "pancratium maritimum, lotus creticus, amophila arenaria et chamaerops humilis".
4 - L'écosystème lacustre est un réservoir permanent d'eau douce (75 ha) entourée d'une végétation hydrophile à base de Typha, scripe roseaux et iris. C'est le lieu de repos et de reproduction pour les oiseaux d'eau.
5 - L'écosystème forestier représenté par quelques vestiges de l'ancien maquis composé principalement d'oliviers sauvages et lentistiques. Il constitue une barrière, plus au moins étroite, autour du lac permettant une protection pour l'avifaune et les autres espèces animales.
S'agissant de sa richesse faunistique, la zone humide du lac de Réghaïa abrite plus de 200 espèces d'oiseaux dont 55 sont protégées par la réglementation algérienne et 4 classées en tant qu'espèces menacées par l'Union internationale pour la conservation de la nature (UICN). La zone compte, par ailleurs, 21 espèces de mammifères telles que le chacal, la genette, la mangouste, le renard famélique, le porc-épic, le sanglier et la chauve souris. Y réside aussi 71 espèces inventoriées de reptiles et d'amphibiens dont les tortues Emyde lépreuse, la cristude et la tortue mauresque ainsi que le caméléon commun, le lézard vert et certains genres de serpents. La zone compte également 170 espèces d'invertébrés dont 20 espèces d'insectes protégés par la réglementation algérienne. Quant aux poissons, les eaux douces du lac de Réghaïa sont peuplées de mulet et d'anguilles, alors que la partie maritime de la zone compte 12 espèces de poissons et crustacés.
Quant à la richesse floristique de la zone humide du lac de Réghaïa, elle regroupe 233 espèces de plantes inventoriées, dont 3 espèces endémiques à l'Afrique du Nord et une espèce rare sur le littoral, ainsi que 25 espèces de la flore marine (plantes vasculaires, gorgone, et algues) inventoriées dont la posidonie.

ALGER- Le ministère de la Culture prépare actuellement un dossier pour l’inscription de l’Ahaggar sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO, a affirmé, mercredi à Alger, la ministre de la culture, Mme Khalida Toumi.

"L’Algérie s’attelle à obtenir l’inscription de l’Ahaggar dans la liste du patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO et prépare des dossiers sur d’autres sites pour être classés dans cette liste", a indiqué la ministre lors de la conférence organisée par le Conseil de la Nation sur "le développement des politiques en relation avec le patrimoine culturel dans le champ d’activité de l’UNESCO et des organisations internationales-cas de l’Algérie-".

L’Algérie, a-t-elle ajouté, et avec l’aide de l’UNESCO s’emploie à présenter des dossiers de classification de villes historiques et deux dossiers sur le patrimoine immatériel qui seront présentés à l’UNESCO avant la fin de l’année en cours.

Dans le même ordre d’idées, Mme Toumi a souligné que le ministère de la culture a demandé à l’UNESCO l’envoi d’une mission d’experts pour s’informer des fouilles effectuées par un particulier à quelques mètres du parc du Tassili classé site mondial.

Concernant la Casbah, la ministre a précisé que son secteur travaillait avec l’UNESCO pour la préservation de ce patrimoine mondial. C’est sur cette base, a-t-elle dit, que le plan permanent de préservation de la Casbah qui doit être soumis au gouvernement pour adoption et exécution a été mis en place.

Mme Toumi a rappelé que l’Algérie qui a signé toutes les conventions de l’UNESCO, possédait sept sites répertoriés par cette instance que sont le parc du Tassili, le site archéologique de Tipasa, ceux de Djemila et de Timgad, la Kalâa de Beni Hamad, la vallée du M’zab et la Casbah d’Alger.

L’Algérie possède également, selon la ministre, 10 secteurs protégés classés au niveau national.

Chott Melrhir

Le chott Melrhir (en arabe: شط ملغيغ) est un lac salé endoréique du nord-est de l'Algérie, ses coordonnés sont 34.3, 6.3 (http://maps.google.fr/maps?q=Chott+Melrhir,+Wilaya+d%27El+Oued,+Alg%C3%A9rie&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&hl=fr&geocode=Fd0CCgId5R9hAA&split=0&hq=&hnear=Chott+Melrhir&t=h&ll=34.264026,6.363831&spn=1.096347,2.705383&z=9).

Il a une surface d'environ 6700 km² et il est le plus grand lac d'Algérie. Il se trouve à 40 m sous le niveau de la mer, ainsi il est le point le plus bas de la géographie algérienne. Dû a une forte évaporation, il devient régulièrement un désert de sel.

Les villes de Biskra, El Oued et Touggourt se trouvent à proximité.

Le chott Melrhir est une zone humide protégée par la Convention de Ramsar.
