CHARMINAR (4 Minarets), The Most Important Landmark of South India located inOld City aka Purana Shehar, Hyderabad

Completely neglected throughout the post Independence history as this 1980s picture shows. It largely has to do with cash starved central & state governments. It has gone under major renovation from mid 1990s thanks to Indian Department of Tourism, Archeological Survey of India & Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad & globalization of economy.

Also knows as "Arc de Triumph" of the East, Taj Mahal of the South India, for its exquisite beauty.

This monument was built by Quli Qutub Shah of the Qutub Shahi Dynasty in 15th century to mark the end of the Plague epidemic that residents had to abandon the city for a long while.

In an efforts to give it an extra boost, expensive permanent lighting system was installed for the 2003 afro-asian games by Department of Tourism. The result. Now, Charminar changes colors all night till dusk.

Golconda Fort looks spectacular under color changing lights. Its a sight to behold like nothing else. absolutely stunning visually.
