IT IS GOOD TO SEE INDONESIA GREEN AND BLUE!! NICE PICS!!
BUT I WONDERED WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THESE PARKS AFTER A FEW YEARS AS YOU KNOW (SOME INDONESIAN DON'T KNOW HOW TO APPERCIATE AND DESTROY IT)
SO JUST HOPE THEY GOVERNMENT PRESERVED IT / MAKE TOURIST DESTINATION AND NOT DO SOMETHING SILLY LIKE BURNING THE FOREST POLLUTE THE SEAS AND BEACH!!

April 14th, 2005, 12:35 PM
I totally agree with you ,as many corruptors destroyed the beautiful forest only to benifit themselves, They don t care if Indonesia will have no rainforest at all.
They sell Indonesian plywood to China <Malaysia , and these countries make furnitures and claimed the wood as local plywood. Indonesia is stupid enough to sell these plywood so that other countries get richer. ( those countries can preserved their own forest )

I think the dirty part is not so bad, I don't like the horde of street peddlers who continuously talk to you into buying their stuff. I think tourists deserve some privacy and the opportunity to enjoy the beach.

BARACK Obama's coming visit to Indonesia will mix a sentimental return to his childhood home with some forthright diplomacy to secure US influence in the archipelago.
http://images.theage.com.au/2010/02/02/1087657/Barry-200x0.jpg
A bronze statue of a young Barack Obama at Menteng Park in Jakarta.
The US President is hugely popular in Indonesia after spending four years in Jakarta with his anthropologist mother, Ann Dunham. His trip was compared by the US embassy to the Indonesian rite of ''pulang kampung'', where families laden with presents pile into cars, trains, buses and motorcycles and return to their villages, usually to celebrate the end of the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan.
While the itinerary for the March visit has yet to be confirmed, Mr Obama is expected to take his wife and two daughters to his former home and school in the leafy, colonial-era Jakarta suburb of Menteng. Mr Obama was known as ''Barry'' to his school friends, and a controversial statue depicting him as a child stands in a Menteng square.
There has been speculation he may make a major public address in Jakarta.
The US leader will also open a ''comprehensive partnership'' with Indonesia, the country with the world's largest Muslim population and one the US regards as an exemplar of moderate Islam that embraces democracy, religious tolerance and women's rights.
Dino Patti Djalal, a spokesman for Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, said Indonesia was keen to ''recalibrate'' its relationship with the US to reflect Indonesia's emergence as a vibrant democracy after decades of dictatorship.
''There are still those [in the US] who think of Indonesia like it was back in the Suharto days, particularly in Congress and among NGOs [non-government organisations],'' Dr Djalal told The Age.
Indonesia is a member of the G20 group of economies and Dr Yudhoyono, who had three stints studying and training in the US during his military career, has described it as his ''second country''.
But China is making increasing inroads into the region, both diplomatically and economically. A free trade pact with the Association of South-East Asian Nations, led by Indonesia, has just taken effect.
By contrast, the economic relationship between Indonesia and the US has stagnated in recent years. Defence ties have been improved since they broke down during East Timor's bloody independence vote but the US military continues to ban any co-operation with Indonesia's notorious special forces unit, Kopassus.
''It is about a contest for influence in the region,'' said Anak Agung Banyu Perwita, deputy director of the Indonesian Institute for Strategic Studies. ''The US is very much concerned about China's rising hegemonic power.''

What NATIONAL PARK is, and What LOCAL/COMMUNITY PARK is ...
