thu thiem will be the new and modern downtown for saigon... its across the river from district 1
I know about Thu Thiem. But Dist1 is important place. We can have 2 modern downtown in SaiGon. Government can move those small house out of dist1. It won't take over 5 year to build new modern downtown at Dist1. :)

It seems like very week we have at least 2-3 new construction projects in Saigon. Hopefully by 2010 we'll have at least 200+ highrises and transforms the skyline dramatically.

whats the rush? we can easily reach that goal but Saigon would much be much better with a few unique, iconic highrises rather than hundreds and hundreds of boxy plain buildings.... looks at Seoul...Korea we do not wanna be there..

well merry christmas everyone

don't know what peoplr are talking about 100-200 buildings in years to come......if you do the math.....SG is currently planned to build 30.000 apartment units, plus sg sport city, Sg pearl and another big $200mil complex in SG june next year.....Sg should have atleast more than 100-200 buildings in the short future

note: sg pearl complex cost $120mil and they manage to build 10 buildings ranging from 37 -40 storeys
then $200 mill invests in SG south by the Korean next year will be a bunch of 40 storeys French style towers.
(I still don't know why they keep putting French architecture in modern satelite city, while comtinue to destroying the historic center with modern concrete block? I'm not happy with neither)

December 24th, 2005, 09:26 AM
Sg center district 1 has lots of big empty spaces......but they aren't being used appropriately and sufficiently
take a look at some of the panoramic view of district 1 on webshots.com......type in search "sai gon" 2 separate words and you'll see

The new Youth Cultural House will be built in mid 2006, when the Student Cultural House project is completed.
I think they had chosen the first design, cause it had won the 1st prize in the Youth Cultural House design contest. This one is just from a contestant, and maybe won another prize.
However, I love both of them, and please to see either.

I believe this 55-storey Me Linh project is the one from 1995 but it was cancelled and now they modify the project to a 35-storey Bonday Ben Thanh instead.

on Me Linh square there are two sites....a pentagon block which according to ashui will be the Vietcombank 35 storeys tower replacing the previous project invested by the German with twin 55 storeys towers.......the German pulled out during the asian financial crisis.......the new one will start construction June of 2006........hopefully there is no delay with this one.

the long retangular block next to it , so far hasn't any new updates, except for the 65 storeys tower designed on archetype.

so people who hasn't been back to SG for a long time mistaken these 3 different projects on MeLinh square as 1.

hehehe this is funny , you stupid naive kid born in foreign country....
yeah I was thinking that too, but I think soon when more people come there to live.....by that time VN police will have to chase them around town....and play hide and seek with each other
but as right now I think SG south is an oasis for people who wants to get away from the bustling and craziness of the inner city. for young lovers go there and hold hands and kissing , seniors go there to do Tai Chi without getting hit by cars...........drug addicts go there to do drug etcetera

Where are the Riverpark and the Son Kim located?

Bang, the Indochina Park Tower is still being finished. No change in recent months, just a bright green monolith. The park area between the building and the river is still a construction materials holding yard.

Yes, the two other apartment towers on Nguyen Huu Canh seem to be suspended at this time... also suspended:

Times Square: almost no machinery on site now.

Kinh Do Plaza: the crane is gone, I believe.

An Khanh: two towers x20, nothing since they drilled the caissons.

Orchard Garden: probably nothing is happening.

Horizon Tower: yes, they've started drilling caissons a month ago.

Ben Van Don--very interesting area. Will post some more photos later. In general I don't take photos these days because the weather is so bad..

REX hotel

Tiện nghi Khách sạn
Kích thước 17,372m2; 95 pḥng
Giá 11,500,000 USD

The Rex was originally designed as a garage in the early 20th century, then extended in 1959 to become a 6-floor building successively used as a trading center, an American cultural center, a press center (used by the American Information Service during the Vietnam war), an entertainment center (including 3 cinemas and a dance hall), and a hotel. Despite a renovation carried out in 1995, the hotel’s structure still reflected its complex history and needed a full refurbishment as well as an extension to comply with 5-star international standards.
The extension will accommodate 71 additional guestrooms and suites (increasing the total number to 278), two large conference rooms with banquet facilities, a rooftop swimming pool, a shopping gallery and a 2-storey underground car park. The renovation of the existing wing will include the complete renovation of the facades, of the lobby , of the restaurants and of the spa.
An adjoining art-deco bus station was demolished to allow the extension and the design concept was mainly inspired by its exceptional architecture. While constraints such the as height limitations, setbacks and the compulsory use of tiled roofs were added by the authorities due to proximity of the rococo-style City Hall, reminiscences of the old art-deco garage are omnipresent in the project. The interior design also incorporates many features such as moldings, steelwork, and floor patterns that were directly taken from the preexisting art-deco garage.

Great info about the Rex. This also increases the chances that the apartment building on the other side of the street (between the Rex and the Opera) will not be destoyed. But do we know for sure that this is the design they are going with? We now know that the 9-story addition to the Continental has been scrapped...

Titanic, I don't see how the Vitek Building is 13 stories, I counted in person a couple of times... how did you get 13?

From some Vietnamese news articles and they vary.

This one from the contractor saying 12 floors

I very like such Venedig-style urban areas like the Quy hoạch chỉnh trang bờ kênh Tân Hoá Ḷ Gốm....so lovely, romantic and natural. Uh....instead of streets which is fully of mopeds and cars anyway lets use the small river...a good idea huh?...so u would have even more space if u just want go to the next mall or supermarket....so funny and so environment-freiendly...and keep on living in a vn way...:colgate:

thanks Jaro!

I don't believe it....Ben Van Don building broke ground on summer of 2004 and now they're starting.....the indochina tower I thought completed yearsss ago and so is the horison.
things are so slow in VN.......the empire building in New York construction was so quick they managed to put up 1 floor each day.....and that was almost 100 years ago.
VN is sad.
trust me that 60 storeys building will take another 2-3 yrs

those images you got from archetype website is almost a year.....I think some of the projects have different designs now
like the Majestic hotel addition is to be a 27 storeys tower.
not sure about the Rex......but that sketch is sure ugly....the design is not symetrical....and the roof looks like nothing

you know last time you took pictures of bank buildings? why didn't you get that one underconstruction right next to the Bank? it seems pretty tall on ashui

If I wasn't wrong, that building is Fideco Tower.
But as you wish, may be in next 2, 3 days, I will make a ride to this area to take photos.

LS I'm pretty sure I know what ashui was talking about, becasue when i'm in VN i saw 2 empty sites on 2 sides of the Ham Nghi Boulevard, on the right is the current Fideco, and the left is another site still under land clearance..........an at the end of Ham Nghi are two proposed buildings 40 storeys spaceship on the right and 60storeys financial tower on the left.
hopefuly these buildings get off the ground soon because Ham Nghi is a big wide but short and stubby in height.

also a bank behinds the VN national bank (the french building) is soon to be expanded, not sure how many storeys.....this should be Ngo Duc Ke or Nguyen Tat Thanh st
