Is that a reliable source? a regular guy come on and chatted about betting. most was about Olympics ect and he was asked about the election and that was the date has has been told be "reliable" sources. :) lol tays Fabian August 12th, 2004, 02:14 AM They have reason to be correct. Howard told MP's at partyroom meeting on Tuesday that there will no meetings of parliament for the remainder of this term after Thursday's night session. He also wished all his MP's all the best for the future. Also Howard is rushing legislation to clear the decks for the campgain including the FTA with the US and maratime boundaries with East Timor. Macca-GC August 12th, 2004, 02:10 PM I doubt he'd call it during the olympics. They're also thinking he may wait until after the US election. jacobsian August 12th, 2004, 02:16 PM a regular guy come on and chatted about betting. most was about Olympics ect and he was asked about the election and that was the date has has been told be "reliable" sources. :) lol tays It wasn't so much that he had reliable sources, more so that September 18 was where all the money was going. Jimmy James August 12th, 2004, 02:27 PM Check out this new thread: Jimmy's Top Tens (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?p=2027042#post2027042) TOP 10 Signs John Howard is going to call an election 10. Jana Pitman bungs up knee - that was the secret signal!!! chrisaus August 12th, 2004, 02:31 PM they are all doing a very shitty job of trying to buy my vote kota16 August 12th, 2004, 04:11 PM Howard is banking on Australia doing well at Athens Olympic Games, so that Australians will feel good about 'Johnny the sport', so an election after the games would suit him. On the other hand, there is a strong chance the USA Bush Govt will change to Kerry, so he will want it before Nov 2nd. But whatever, one only votes for the candidate in local electorate. The party decides who the leader is, so essentially the only votes for Howard are coming from the seat of Bennelong, in Sydney. :) Jimmy James August 12th, 2004, 10:57 PM Well I don't give a shit who the local member is - what do they do anyway? On the other hand I vote for the party not the candidate, usually whatever party is pissing me off less. Tony P August 12th, 2004, 11:18 PM I care who my local member is. I have this goose. http://www.vhood.net/vandal/war_cabinet_files/abbott.jpg I may have to vote twice, nay, thrice to get him out! ;) Flatiron August 12th, 2004, 11:25 PM What do you suppose would happen if both Kerry and Howard get in? Think the White House will finally nail up the doggie-door? jacobsian August 13th, 2004, 01:12 AM Well I don't give a shit who the local member is - what do they do anyway? Vote in favour of Howard's policies, and use their question in question time to ask Nelson, Howard, Costello or Downer how much of a fantastic job they're doing. ABS August 13th, 2004, 02:36 AM I don't even know which Federal election seat I'm in. I know I'm in the state seat of Moreton with Judy Spence and the local seat of Wishart with Graeme Quirk. But I have NFI about the federal election. Aussie Bhoy August 13th, 2004, 11:53 AM Guys, all local members toe the party line when in parliament, whichever party they are. And for those calling Howard a lap dog to the US. Do you seriously think, that had a labor government been in office for the last couple of years, that we wouldn't have joined the US in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars? Look at the Blair Labour government in the UK, they are accused of the exact same stuff as you guys have a go at Howard about. Hawke sent forces to the first Gulf war, I know, I was on one of the ships. Jimmy James August 13th, 2004, 02:21 PM Vote in favour of Howard's policies, and use their question in question time to ask Nelson, Howard, Costello or Downer how much of a fantastic job they're doing. True Nuff - they may as well get them to unzip while their at it! :puke: Jimmy James August 13th, 2004, 02:26 PM Guys, all local members toe the party line when in parliament, whichever party they are. One of the things wrong with this country - look at the US - in congress and the senate they 'cross the floor' all the time to support the objectives of their constituents, that's why local members in this country are useless, they tow the party line, basically all their there to do is fill a seat so the government has a majority vote. Jimmy James August 13th, 2004, 02:34 PM I don't even know which Federal election seat I'm in. I know I'm in the state seat of Moreton with Judy Spence and the local seat of Wishart with Graeme Quirk. But I have NFI about the federal election. Check out this threadWho they voted for at the last election (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=115592) Here are the outer brisbane federal electorates http://www.aec.gov.au/_content/who/profiles/images/brisbane.gif And the Brisbane City Electorates http://www.aec.gov.au/_content/who/profiles/images/brisbane2.gif By the look of this map your State Seat is Wishart and your federal seat is Moreton (they never overlap on names) For Briz city you would be part of a ward - I wouldn't have the first clue what that is. ABS August 13th, 2004, 03:02 PM Thanks Jimmy James. Looks like I'm in the Federal seat of Moreton. Aussie Bhoy August 13th, 2004, 03:48 PM I'm registered to vote in Brisbane by that map. Jimmy James, that's how the Westminster style of government works, the whips ensure that party members vote with their parties. Otherwise the members would be dis-endorsed from the party, and just about no-one can be elected with the backing of a major party, especially in the lower house. At least unlike the Brits, we have an elected upper house, they have a hereditary and appointed upper House of Lords, we have the senate. ABS August 13th, 2004, 03:50 PM Historically the upper house in Queensland was abolished because they kept blocking the lower house. Aussie Bhoy August 13th, 2004, 03:58 PM I'm amazed the other states outside of Queensland feel there is a need for an upper house in a state government. The Canadian provinces, Scotland, Wales and many other countries (not sure about NZ) are also unicameral legislatures. Qld did it under the Labor government in 1922. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicameral http://www.gu.edu.au/text/centre/qsc/docs/content6-link1.html ABS August 13th, 2004, 04:04 PM The Queensland government have been screwed up since thier inception. Whether Libral or Labor the QLd government have always been shitheads with NFI what they are doing. Aussie Bhoy August 13th, 2004, 05:18 PM What do you base that upon? People love to have a go at politicians, but someone has to do it, they do get somethings right. And they aren't all idiots either. |
