View Full Version : Music That Compliments the Winter
koolio November 14th, 2010, 04:43 AM Hey. With the onset of the Canadian winter right on the horizon, I was wondering whether there are any particular songs/artists/albums/genres that you think compliments the weather.
Right now, I have too many songs on my iPod that I realized remind me of the summer. I think I would get depressed listening to them during the winter so I'm open to a massive overhaul of my playlists. The songs could be festive/christmasy in nature but certainly not limited to that genre exclusively.
With that said, here are a few songs in my library right now that I think work well with winter for one reason or another:

beautiful song indeed,Thanks TB.Its reminding me of long love lost.
davidivivid November 14th, 2010, 06:28 AM Ok, considering the title of the song, this choice might seem a little too obvious but I just adore that artist and for as long as I can remember, I've always associated this song with the first snow...Enjoy!

A pleasure! But don't pine too long for lost love.. love is like a bottle of Champagne. When it is empty we do not try to fill it up again; we get a new one!

Looking/Up November 14th, 2010, 02:54 PM I posted this video last year at Christmas. The Huron Carol is one of the only Canadian originated Christmas Carols. This version is sung in Huron, French, and English.

vid November 14th, 2010, 08:49 PM Every winter I find a few songs that act as a sort of soundtrack for that season, and when I hear them I am reminded of that year. I think Silver Swans - Secrets (http://hypem.com/#/track/1228581/Silver+Swans+-+Secrets) will be one of them, since it has been stuck in my head all morning and we just got our first snow.
Others include Black Tie Dynasty - Crime Scene (2007/08); Foals - Electric Bloom (2008/09) and The Papertiger Sound - Sing it All Away (2009/10).

Already bought three new bottle of Champagne but nothing taste the same, for some reasons that old bottle still can not replace in my mind.Must be vintage.:)
vanboy2 November 14th, 2010, 09:55 PM This is the song says it all why I missed my first Champagne bottle.

koolio November 15th, 2010, 03:45 AM Some very good recommendations. I think most people have the same idea as I do. Atmospheric sounds and stuff that would otherwise me considered dark normally goes well during the winter. Good call on the shoegazing stuff too:

Liking the Christmassy stuff as well. Some stuff never gets old.
MattToronto November 15th, 2010, 05:53 AM I seem to relate music to the season I first heard it in, that's why 65daysofstatic is always winter music for me.

davidivivid November 16th, 2010, 02:56 PM One of the best song of this particular group and the video is pretty sweet as well. I've tried to translate the lyrics as best as I could so even if it isn't perfect, you'll get the idea:
Under a bridge warming in time
The freezing morning cold
When winter with its white gloves
Blows a wind burning hands
Flashback of a hysterical mom
Zoom on his father's fist
Escaping towards closing credits
With only one name
To escape the sombre fate
When the old décor tumbles
Spitting on good appearances
A sting in the injured soul
Walking for kilometres
And passing through the years
Park bench and public baths
Caravan of lost dogs
In the straightest of curves
The descent is unnoticed
To escape the sombre fate
When the old décor tumbles
To escape fate
Under a bridge warming in time
The freezing morning cold
When winter with its white gloves
Blows a wind burning hands
His body was found
