View Full Version : Tour CBX progress
PornStar August 15th, 2004, 08:15 PM I'm sure you're all very impatient about how CBX is doing here in Paris, so here it goes, Tour CBX a couple of nights ago:

But the tower still has a long way to go until it reaches its 150m
Also the construction of Tour Exaltis started recently:

And Tour T1 should start before the end of the year :) Yay!

Monkey August 15th, 2004, 08:30 PM Excellent pic.
What's the height of Tour T1 going to be?
PornStar August 15th, 2004, 09:00 PM @wjfox2002:
well it should be around 190m, but I guess we're gonna know the very exact height only when the construction starts :dunno:
dom August 29th, 2004, 09:27 PM looks as though la defense is a bit of a dark horse.
london talks about all these lovely projects but it is paris that is actually building them!
Ning August 29th, 2004, 09:34 PM looks as though la defense is a bit of a dark horse.

On the average, French are pessimistic and doesn't talk much about a tower only in projet whereas Brits are optimistic and talk about a tower even if it's not 100% sure that it will be built.
De Snor September 2nd, 2004, 08:01 PM I didn't know T1 has 2 buildings ?
Phil September 3rd, 2004, 11:47 PM Some great pictures, by JP.

It must be a tough logistical challenge to build in a tight spot like that!!
PornStar September 30th, 2004, 06:31 PM @yvanh: that's a neat image you've got, but could you PLEEEEZ reduce the size of it to smth like 900x700, otherwise my brain will explode, thus there'll be alot of cleaning up to do! :bash:

SinCity October 1st, 2004, 02:04 PM Wow ........ PornStar those are fantastic pics. Hopefully you'll keep us all up to date with this beauty! :)
PornStar October 8th, 2004, 02:12 PM Thanx you guys about the pix, and I'll sure try to take more soon.

According to the developer, at the moment the whole T1 complex is one of the most important projects in Paris/Region, with more than 100,000sqm of office space. The complex will contain several buildings, parks, shops and so much more, but the main accent of course will be the main T1 tower. You can see how big/important the project is in this plan:
http://www.olipar-lucia.com/images/photo_quartier.jpg

The construction according to the developer and also some of our spies in the French forum is about to start very shortly, there is also quite some activity on the site already...
PornStar October 8th, 2004, 02:20 PM Here's also a couple of visuals of Tour CBX, found by ERIC from the French Forums:
The CBX doen't look that tall in this one, even though it's got ~150m
http://patrickdaniels.tripod.com/GALLERY1.JPG
Here you can see how massive the building actually is, that's why sometimes it doesn't look that tall. This is the CBX at the street level, all in somewhat metal high-tech style

the tower is looking better than I thought, the facade especially is much better than on the renderings

This building is not massive or it's relative . With the same height there is in Brussels a tower around 200.000 sq meters and another under construction around 100.000 sq meters. But CBX is around 44.000 sq meters.
Phobos October 9th, 2004, 05:15 AM The curvade facade looks good.

De Snor October 15th, 2004, 06:02 PM What a fantastic building it has become
>> I would like to see a list of all buildings at La Défense when they were built from the Esso building until today ?
gm2263 October 16th, 2004, 10:04 AM So, if I am correct, the topping-out of the T1 will signify a breaking of the height record for La Defence, which now if I remember correctly stands slightly above 180 (is it 185m? I don't rememmber) with the tours Framatome (I mean the ex-FIAT tower) and ELF. THAT's a remarcable addition. Can you imagine what it would be to even surpass the Tour Montparnasse? Is this likely?
Anyway, I see some mobility in LD and this is good. However, Paris still needs to make a strong statement (above 250m). We all know, especially the... older ones (that's for me and the moustache man :):):), Stephan where r u hidin'? ) what good old LD stands for, but time passes quickly, especially now that London is coming up THAT strong.
Phil October 16th, 2004, 01:06 PM T1 will be 185, just below Total (187m) but Ahead of Areva (184m). Granite will be 183, ahead of Gan (179...). So there won't even be 10 meters between the 5 tallests buildings.
LD currently hosts 3,4 millions m² of office space, and built Egee, Adria, EDF, or Coeur Defense in the last 5 years (all 150m+), and now CBX, and soon Granite and T1. I know this is not CW growth, but well, still not too bad.
The current problem as you say is height, LD would just need at least 1 taller tower to
look much better as a cluster.
Except that, this is the design for the twin towers project in Levallois (planned for 2008) :
http://ladefense.free.fr/levallois/titre.jpg
gm2263 October 16th, 2004, 01:25 PM The Levallois look fine, remotely reminding me of the Toronto city hall building. Nice touch. Well, we've been so many times in this discussion between LD and CW that I don't need to say anything more here. LD will be for some time the most elegant and mature cluster in Europe. The point is that the future looks a bit blurry after the years 2007 - 2010 let's say. Anyway, I wish we had in Athens the 1/4 of the towers you got there BUT in absolute terms, when you rest on your laurels and you've got hungry followers (because what LD did is that it legalised the right of the historic cities to have a modern suburb outside them where the constructions would be seen as "heretic" at least), things change. I mean From Madrid to Istanbul, I see a new era of tall towers emerging and also think about cities like Bratislava or Talinn that come into play. Think about Vienna for instance. The tops on this list (and excluding London which is, after all, London) may be a real threat after 2010, not counting the other giant called Moscow...
Also, perhaps you Frenchies should tell the rest of the Euroscraper natchos here about the lowrise, yet FANTASTIC developments in La Villette. I mean, 300m towers are not the only objects of fully deserving admioration in your country, albeit still quite impresssive.
Phil October 16th, 2004, 01:46 PM LD future is always blurry actually, we never know about projects a long time before they start, but the good side is that since a few years, they almost always actually start and no major project were cancelled in LD since the Tour sans fins, modified at most.
As for other cities catching up, that's only fair, they started late, LD oldest towers are almost 40 years old now (Initiale was built in 1966). LD also built like crazy in the past, look, between 74 and 75 , we got Areva (Fiat back then) , Gan, AXA (UAP then) , Ariane, Defense 2000, and Manhattan.
Actually, I think the current building situation is the best we had in LD since 1975 : several 150m+ towers recently built, plus 2 more in project, getting denser with several low or mid rise....
ERIC October 17th, 2004, 10:35 PM The CBX Tower will be like this when completed, perhaps a bit darker.
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/autresmondes2/img/CBX.jpg
De Snor October 18th, 2004, 08:42 AM @ ERIC , what is going to happen with that awful construction on the right side of your picture ?
ERIC October 18th, 2004, 12:01 PM It will be completely transformed, with elegant glass façades.

nukey January 17th, 2005, 02:28 PM its a great building. Is it by KPF? It is a sort of funkified West India Quay. Do alot of people live in La Defense or is it something of a City of London type area. I guess what Im getting at is aksing whether there is any life, culture etc there?
gun57 January 17th, 2005, 07:17 PM about 20 000 people lives in La Défense and there some museums and shopping malls
nukey January 17th, 2005, 07:55 PM so its definitely not dead then. I think i remember there being an Imax too if im not mistaken. Hopefully Canary Wharf will get museums and more housing soon too to make it a destination for more than just office workers. I see you hail from Metz... what do you think of the new Pompidou and does the public support it there?
kony January 17th, 2005, 08:44 PM There is no museums in la défense ! except an open-air museum of 60 modern scultpures
nukey January 18th, 2005, 11:50 AM um, so are there or not? I think that urban art is good, but not enough to keep a place lively in terms of being a destination.
kony January 18th, 2005, 04:54 PM except the one i mentionned there is no museum in la defense....but the authority of la defense area has said recently that they will do whatever necesary to develop the leisures in this district...to make it more lively at night and on the week-ends.
the imax is still there (at least the structure) but will be coverted in a giant movie & leisure complex next year.
nukey January 18th, 2005, 06:21 PM god, yeah... imagine going out clubbing amongst all those towers, that would just be wicked.
