View Full Version : Trances pulling out of UAE and heading home
Trances August 16th, 2004, 12:18 PM Well as you all know I have had my time in Dubai and have found it rather hard. So after 6 months decided that I cant adjust to life here and just to home sick. And that better opportunities will exist in other places for me in the future.. I have been looking for work in Sydney and hope to get a response over the next month or so. Once that happens I will make arrangements to end my contract here. So yes I know it will take a long time to move back but now that I have thought about it its just a release, given me hope and maybe saved me from being coming more bitter and upset.
Well let you know how it goes over the coming few weeks
Bahraini Spirit August 16th, 2004, 12:22 PM we'll miss you man, your the key man in this forum. Well a lot of people feel home sick when they're away, especially in your case where australia is about 16 hours or so away. if you don't mind me asking, is it just that you are home sick that you found it hard, or is it somethin in general?
Trances August 16th, 2004, 12:31 PM Home sick for my friends and lifestyle I guess thats what it is mostly
Though i could focus on my work for now but far to immature for that need every thing eles that was my life. So easy way to fix that would be to recreate it here. Not possible. Return when I can and capture it on holidays, not possible as cant afford it. Leaving the choice to return ! :)
I have done my work here on this forum and many other fine people are working on it Now. SO i need a new assignment. What forum needs a few 100 threads ? And just cause i am not here does not mean I wont check in.
Dubai-Lover August 16th, 2004, 12:32 PM oh man!!! :(
sometimes it's crazy how people think about dubai. i can understand that you feel home sick, maybe your family is down under?
i myself can say that i would prefer to live in dubai than in germany. but i didn't have any job experience yet. i'm sure that working in dubai is a bit different from this tourist view (wow, everything so amazing, luxurious hotels,....).
for sure: we'll miss your engagement and work for this forum, because you won't be able to get insider info and these amazing pics anymore when you're home!
i hope you will continue as our uae forum moderator, won't you?
SA BOY August 16th, 2004, 01:41 PM sorry to hear that mate, we will continue the good work and hope it goes well for you in back in Sydney. Have a beer for me at Cargo or Establishemnt
AltinD August 16th, 2004, 08:34 PM Well mate, Good Luck whereever it might be.
BulldozerGirl August 17th, 2004, 01:13 AM For sure, coming to Dubai as a visitor is much more fun. I think I love it here because of family and because I am not working. If I didn't have either of these my hair would go white.
Thanks for organising this forum, Trances.
Dubai_Boy August 17th, 2004, 03:20 AM Well as you all know I have had my time in Dubai and have found it rather hard. So after 6 months decided that I cant adjust to life here and just to home sick. Just out of curiosity how long have you been here?
I have been here 9 years and I hated it the 1st year. It was only after I found out there were in fact some normal people here that I started tosettle in. Now I love It.
Trances August 17th, 2004, 07:36 AM only 4 months !
Well been in and out from June last year but only living from Mid March
ANd I still have a few months not leaving until I have a good idea that I will get a postion in sydney
AltinD August 18th, 2004, 10:31 AM I have been here 9 years and I hated it the 1st year. It was only after I found out there were in fact some normal people here that I started to settle in. Now I love It.
Exactly!
SA BOY August 18th, 2004, 11:07 AM Exactly!
Im lucky cos I had mates here and have been here before so I knew what I was getting into. But I agree you need mates here or you are stuffed because of the huge cultural divide
dubai888 August 18th, 2004, 12:02 PM There is a common sentence in arabic .. "When Evil Comes, Angels Go"... Is that so , Trances !
Just joking :)
Trances August 18th, 2004, 12:09 PM no to question but it make more sense to me the other way around
When Angels Go, Evil Comes
dubai888 August 18th, 2004, 01:41 PM i think Evil Power is more than Angel Power these days... Angel will not go unless Evil come !
anyway ... goodluck with your career ... although job oprotunity in UAE is good specially your profession .. IT is wanted ... btw .. how many years experience do u have, coz it is an issue here ?
Trances August 18th, 2004, 01:43 PM 3 years
dubai888 August 18th, 2004, 01:48 PM Good ... i think it is enough to work in good companies ... i have 0 experiance .. but i'll complete my procedure to work in Etisalat- internet and e-solution - security section ... salary is DH. 11500/- first year ... then it'll start 15,500/- .. +1000 if married .. not counting Bonus... it is around >38,000/- per year
what about you .. are u expecting better salary in Sydney .. .i know your problem is Home-sick issue, but i'd like to know what is the difference in salaries coz i've never been outside my country !
Toronto75 August 26th, 2004, 03:26 PM TRANCES,
Is certainly one of the greatest cities on Earth, but please look back to my 1st post.
Sydney, Toronto, New York, Chicago are the great cities of the World. But they are already fully established, set in thier ways.
Dubai is new, and it's exploding with growth and unparalled projects. Ride the bandwagon, the growth be a part of the excitment. Develope yourself with it. You cannot go wrong.
Don't make a decision based on career, it's not like Dubai, is lacking in job growth. Dubai's job market is as feverish as it's building boom. You are in IT, there's a huge demand for it.
I'm sure if you more aggressivley build a network of contacts and focus a major portion of your time aggressivley looking into a better carrer you will find it.
And in Dubai, I'm sure once you find that career, and make big money. Like anywhere else with lots of money you'll have a much better life.
Besides, you cannot leave Dubai, before I move there, we need to o out for a beer
Trances August 26th, 2004, 03:50 PM well am only leaving if i dont find a new job

Trances August 30th, 2004, 11:17 AM Just one last ditch attempt to ask as many people as possible
I don’t believe I am quite ready to leave Dubai but am so close to packing up and leaving
I believe its my current job and the situation it places me in
I have looked for work but to no avail yet and was just asking here in case any one had ideas, pointers, contacts and or resources !
So PM me or post here if you don’t care if you have any advice at all !
Thanks
Dubai_Boy August 30th, 2004, 04:39 PM I want to say be pateint and wait , but ! its your life
If you know you can get a better job some place else for more money , then i advice you to compare that city with Dubai and hopefully you can decide
BulldozerGirl August 30th, 2004, 05:27 PM PM me some details about what kind of job you're looking for and maybe I can give some suggestions.
Prince of Dubai September 1st, 2004, 01:42 AM trances, my old room mate (flat mate, which actually makes more sense since we didnt share a room) at college was austarlian, nice guy from perth ( and yes i know all you people from sydney hate perth) anyways we were both very homesick when we were at college in the states, but we found out that alot of drinking with some good friends can make you feel alot better, although tom did get mad and violent when he got real drunk, but he would never hurt a fly plus i think he had low self esteem. anyways drinking is an option. and the fact is things will get better. you will feel homesick, for a year or even two, but by that time you will make some really good friends and you will find a lifestyle you like. as for the job thing i dont think you were actually complaining about it in your intial post so i dont think its the main reason your leaving, and trust me anyone working for anybody always wants to find a better job with better pay. Oh and dont forget beer or even a few shots of hard liqour will make you feel better for at least a short while. by the way im a recovering alcholic, and im not doing to well since im drunk right now. J/K Hope you feel better and if you need someone to drink with you know i'll be there for you.
DUBAI September 1st, 2004, 02:50 AM hehe totaly agree with u, if it haddent been for some timely pints of beer, i would never have survived my first year of studying in rainy england after living in dubai for my whole life.
dont go overboard though! it doesnt solve everything. after changing course life their became much more or a realistic option!
