Newcastle looks very cozy, nevertheless a tad small when you take into account its half million inhabitants.

great pics :)

Newcastle has lovely streets and wonderful buildings and I have to ask myself what is behind the problems in it's CBD. Blaming the rail line is not justifed.

I just think it's sheer laziness by some including the bureaucrats in Macquarie Street, Sydney.

Love all the old buildings, but the new developments are a bit average. But I do like that new tallest.

I'm in agreeance with the poor political state at local and state levels. The developers themselves are just as bad especially GPT's decision to pull out because the rail line in their view hinders the city.

I can understand the need for David Jones to move out of their existing premises but why haven't they taken the initative to find a suitable site and develop it to their needs?

yes new highrise are ok, def high standard, but newcastle needs an iconic tower. which should be mixed use.double height of any atm. topped with ob deck and restaurant.soemwhere located centre of cbd.prob near railway station.

^ It's never going to happen in the centre of the CBD, it's all pretty well set as lowrise so as to protect all the heritage built form. Just off the CBD out from Civic or at Wickham (which is pretty much going to be an extention of the CBD anyway) is where the potential is with some areas having a 90m limit. Not quite double the existing height though but maybe in time.

I haven't visited for nearly 30 years. Great pics - thanks. I hope a later photo installment will include some views of the university.
