View Full Version : Voting Intentions, August 2004
Bluestar August 18th, 2004, 04:13 AM I think it's about that time..an election will almost certainly be held in the next 4 months, so is it Mr John 'my head looks like a malteaser' Howard or Mark 'suckhole congaline' Latham...or one of the other folks?
For me, Liberal, only for ideological reasons rather than a specific endorsement of John Howard.
Blue
jacobsian August 18th, 2004, 04:14 AM It's protest vote time!
Bluestar August 18th, 2004, 04:17 AM Is that protest vote as in minor parties, or the Ficus?
kota16 August 18th, 2004, 04:31 AM I usually support those that get things done.I am quite happy with the performance of my retiring Liberal Chris Gallus, her efforts helped Adelaide get a new updated airport. So I will support Simon Birmingham to replace her, as he will be good for tourism to SA. I will be glad to see the end of Howard who is always wanting to stand in front of the military, and eventually there are younger talented people to take over from him. If Turnbull wins the seat of Wentworth in Sydney, he will be a politician who is better educated than Howard. :)
Tony P August 18th, 2004, 04:31 AM Labor, but they've got about as much chance of winning my seat of Warringah as Simon Crean has of winning a Miss World contest. I'll settle for anyone but Howard or Tony Abbott being Prime Minister, though, and that includes you.
jacobsian August 18th, 2004, 04:40 AM Is that protest vote as in minor parties, or the Ficus?
The marijuana party used to run for election in my seat, but i've now been moved to the marginal seat of Hindmarsh, so i'm not sure if they contest that seat yet. Suffice to say, if i'm not able to vote Green, i'll vote for the greens instead.
Not that i'm ideologically bound to the greens, in fact I can't stand them, but my votes going with whichever party is a strong 3rd (RIP democrats).
hoffburger August 18th, 2004, 05:43 AM labor, its time to get a leader who has some balls imo
jacobsian August 18th, 2004, 05:50 AM labor, its time to get a leader who has some balls imo
He definitely has balls - balls to make up policy on issues he doesn't know anything about, right on the spot.
"Restart the negotiations" with East Timor....
Even Kevin "I'm Smart And You're Not" Rudd couldn't get around that one..... bang up job there Latham!
Randwicked August 18th, 2004, 01:33 PM Labor for the house. Latham's a tool but he's better than the alternative. Also, that means a vote for Peter Garrett.
I like to break my preferences at the Senate level between the Dems, Greens and other parties. Sometimes the Liberals, but not this time around.
AtD August 18th, 2004, 01:47 PM I like to break my preferences at the Senate...
Remember to bring a packed lunch.
fro August 18th, 2004, 02:01 PM It's interesting to see how people vote. Most of the time it's for seemingly minor, non-National significant issues, like what Mr Opposition leader said to that nice reporter or how Mr Prime Minister didn't shake the hand of that sweet little boy... bah!!
Time for a change in the left direction! Labor!
Arunava August 18th, 2004, 02:34 PM Greens, for this reason:
Not that i'm ideologically bound to the greens, in fact I can't stand them, but my votes going with whichever party is a strong 3rd (RIP democrats).
tayser August 18th, 2004, 02:43 PM House: ALP.
Senate: Democrats.
greynurse August 18th, 2004, 02:47 PM Greens the second pref to labor hopeflly Latham will be PM I would really vote for the ABH party (anyone but howard) :bash:
chrisaus August 18th, 2004, 03:05 PM frankly they are all a pack of wankers who are going to do a crap job, can't vote the minor parties in protest because they suck too, so ill vote for who ever bribes me at the door if not who knows.... its also a scary thought having all labour govts but I guess Ive managed to live 3 terms of howard so im sure ill survive....
latham plays the little I was a poor aussie boy from the burbs vote for me game, and people are sick of that little animal looking PM, so I would say ALP would have it in the bag ATM.
Aussie Bhoy August 18th, 2004, 03:18 PM The economy has never been better, there are big plans ahead for defence with the Coalition, especially the 2 helicopter carriers (Labour is a joke on defence issues), and Latham is a head kicking, faction driven, vote chaser.
I'll stick with the Coalition, although I would prefer to have a Republican like Costello in charge rather that Howard.
If anyone thinks Labor would be much different on issues such as Iraq, then look towards the "all the way with the USA" Labour government in the UK. The exact same thing would have happened here had the ALP been in power.
chrisaus August 18th, 2004, 03:25 PM With Costello as leader the libs would have no chance in the world imo
MrTall August 18th, 2004, 03:45 PM Libs all the way. The other mob couldn't organise a root in a brothel.
Adder-Laid August 18th, 2004, 04:30 PM Libs all the way. The other mob couldn't organise a root in a brothel.
And your mob would outsource the root because it makes good sense! :P
Randwicked August 18th, 2004, 05:00 PM Remember to bring a packed lunch.
Haha. No prob, I'm the kind of obsessive-compulsive who likes to number every box.

Are you allowed to vote from o/s?
Billy the Kid August 19th, 2004, 02:20 PM Ill be voting Labor and hope we get anew leader with some vision for the future not another US arselicker.
chrisaus August 19th, 2004, 04:02 PM vision what to the next election:D
jacobsian August 19th, 2004, 04:38 PM Ill be voting Labor and hope we get anew leader with some vision for the future not another US arselicker.
"A leader with some vision" ? You should be happy with latham, that sounds like the perfect Latham-Throw-Away-Line.
afterall, he "advocates good policy" . But hey, don't ask me...
"that's for the Australian people to decide"
Union rep arselicker.
I can use the word arselicker now - it was a latham word, until he became important and decided to wrap himself in the star spangled banner. We Wuv Woo US (except your taxi drivers). Oh but seriously, on the taxi drivers, say what you want about them.... but for gods sake leave their familes out of this.
Aussie Bhoy August 19th, 2004, 05:02 PM Are you allowed to vote from o/s?
Yes, just have to go along to Australia House on the Strand with your passport.
Billy, I'm not sure how old you are, but what part of the Labor governments years in power between 83-96 makes you think they are not going to be "US arse lickers" as you like to put it. As I have already said, for an example look to the Blair Labour government in the UK.
On foreign policy issues, surely the most despicable thing done by the ALP during those years was the blind eye turned to the atrocities of the Suharto regime in Indonesia, and Keating's 1995 "security treaty" with Indonesia.
MrTall August 19th, 2004, 06:27 PM Bill's just a digruntled communist lamenting the fact that we've had a government in power that has provided an excellent economic environment and higher living standards.
He'll be a much happier camper if/when the union tossers are elected into government and we are poor and unemployed again, albeit apparently "more equal".... (and have far less skyscrapers UC).
bearbrass August 20th, 2004, 12:12 AM Pretty harsh to call Billy a Commo Im not one but I do also want to see the back of Howard and his sydney centric cabal.
Whats old Johnnies vision then? to suck further up Bushes bum?
If I recall the Keating Govt had the ecomony in good shape and heading in the right direction before they lost in 1996 and that Howard as Treas under Frazer he had massive interest rates in place.
kota16 August 20th, 2004, 02:13 AM Interest rates were 17% under the last Labor Govt, and treasurer Costello has through good management got them to where they are today. One of the causes of the property boom. As far as Howard is concerned, he has been one of the most decietful PMs of all time. He has turned up to to perform duties which should have been done by the Governor General, and since he is mixing with elite heads of state when overseas, with 21 gun salutes and banquets, it has all gone to his head. He thinks he is gods gift to Australia. Perhaps he should be known as Mr 1914/1918, as he uses the RSL and military to prop his image up with the media. In the meantime Mrs Megawati Sukarnoputri will not accept any invite to Australia, and this is the country next door with 210 million people, with a large muslim population, and one where it is no longer safe for visitors to walk around with an Australian flag on a backpack. Little wonder that he is known as King John of Oz. But the waters beyond are muddied and murky!.
GMAC August 20th, 2004, 03:30 AM While I am traditionally a Liberal voter and will probably vote that way again, I do think its time for Johnny to step down, even though I think he has done a decent job. There is no way in the world that I would vote for Labour, I dont mind Latham, but his treasurer is Simon Creane which for me would be taking a step back in time to the 80s when he fucked up the economy last time.
I hope that people dont vote on any international issues like the war or our support of the US, which might be totally different in a few weeks when Bush hopefully gets the boot. Both Liberal and Labour will treat international issues similarly but its almost guaranteed that this is all we will hear about from the media.
Macca-GC September 18th, 2004, 01:15 PM I support the Liberals. I can't believe so many people have voted Greens.
AtD September 18th, 2004, 02:15 PM Labor in the House of Reps, my local member is Trish Draper and I don't care too much for her. Possibly Liberal in the Senate, not sure. I neither want the Liberals having both houses nor the Greens having the balance of power, so I'm not sure.
Blend September 18th, 2004, 02:35 PM If i could vote, id vote Liberal.... Some of the policies that theyve been putting out are good. And although Howard is a conservative ass.... he seems MUCH more competant than that other guy whom i forgot his name its so bad.
