The fiery Brand Hong Kong logo is now blazing a trail above Kuala Lumpur's streets, adorning the paintwork of one of the city's monorail trains.

The vibrant paintjob, promoting Hong Kong as Asia's world city, will run on the Malaysian capital's mass transportation system until mid-September.

Train campaign: The Brand Hong Kong monorail train runs through the heart of Kuala Lumpur after Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office, Singapore, Director Rex Chang (right) helps launch it.

Clearly displayed on the train's body are the dragon logo, the Asia's world city slogan, and the five core values underpinning the brand - stable, free, progressive, high quality and opportunity.

Launching the train today, Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office, Singapore, Director Rex Chang said the highly visible promotion will be seen by tens of thousands of KL-folk daily.

"We hope the Brand Hong Kong train will make a positive impression on the people of Malaysia," Mr Chang said.

HK in KL roadshow
By Doreen Leong, 30 Dec 2005 3:24 PM

A delegation of high-profile regulatory officials from Hong Kong, including its Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Frederick Ma, will be attending a roadshow in Kuala Lumpur early next month to promote portfolio investments in the special administrative region of China.

The participants will also include Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd (HKEx) chief executive Paul Chow and representatives of some 10 companies from Hong Kong.

Sources tell FinancialDaily that the roadshow, which is being organised by stockbroking house OSK Securities Bhd, will showcase portfolio investment opportunities in Hong Kong.

It is believed that this will be the first time that a high-profile delegation from Hong Kong will be here in Malaysia for such a roadshow.

In an email reply to queries from FinancialDaily, HKEx vice president (corporate communications) Lorraine Chan confirmed that Chow had accepted the organiser’s invitation to attend the roadshow.

“HKEx occasionally participates in conferences organised by different brokerages in the US, Europe and Japan.

“HKEx also from time to time organises conferences to introduce the services offered by the Hong Kong securities market, including those held in China and Taiwan,” she says.

A source says the roadshow would also help promote OSK Securities and provide its investors alternative markets for investments.

He says OSK had invited a few Hong Kong-listed companies for corporate presentations at the roadshow, which could be spread over a couple of days.

Last year, OSK Holdings Bhd had entered into a 50:50 joint venture with Equitable Investment Co (Hong Kong) Ltd to carry out the business of integrated financial planning.

The source says the roadshow would target local fund managers and institutions.

He says the Hong Kong companies invited to the roadshow would not be limited to any particular sector or market capitalisation.

As at Dec 21, 2005, the market capitalisation of HKEx stood at HK$8.26 billion (RM4.03 billion).

Among its largest companies by turnover up to Dec 16 are HSBC, Hutchison Whampoa, PetroChina, China Mobile, Cheung Kong, Sun Hung Kai Properties, Sinopec, CNOOC, China Life Insurance and BOC Hong Kong.
