Ditto, ditto, ditto 'n ditto.

All the cool blues and prurple tones at night are unique to Melbourne. Love them.

Q: How far are the trams coming into Docklands along Collins to this point in time?

Q: Are all of the red features disappearing from the pedestrian bridge?

There are no longer any Collins Street trams into the Docklands to allow for the construction of SCS.

With regards to the Wood Marsh Bridge, I think most of it, if not all ( :( ) will be removed (except the deck, of course).

Congrats on a really terrific photo essay. Just on number of locations alone it is obvious a lot of work went into it (was this all done on one night or how many ??)
Anyway wanted to say this because i think it was a 'lift' melb forum needed for overall skyliners just now. For all the good contributions even the big E core rises have become a bit repetitive imho, and will remain so until it starts its shape-changes: YE5 is taking a long time to get its 'top,' and while QV and PWC are adding, there's a bit of a half-time pause until RDT, E&Y, FWP, and SX office begin to have wider skyline impacts. Really well done! :okay:

Excellent shots, u summed up the heart and soul of Melbourne in around 15 shots, well done, saved the best for last aswell, amazing how much the Crown fire throwers light up the whole SouthBank area, sheer brilliance! :)

Imagine FWP2 and Prima between Crown and FWP1, it would be a solid wall of 150m+ towers :-)

You guys must have been out all night !! Fair bit of territory covered..

Love that fountain thingy in Docklands - more of that action ploise..

Still can't believe they're demolishing the beautiful whales-ribs Bourke St Bridge so soon after it was completed !!

Real nice shots. Love your work!
BTW, how often do the Crown 'fire thrower' displays happen?

Great work silvermb, and dotti,
(or her tripod!). Obviously well-planned beforehand.

They are going to demolish the "whale-bone" bridge? Hmmm. What will follow? At least all those photos taken there will mean something ... one night.

Silvermb. Those are wonderful shots, they really highlight that there is possibly no better time of the year to photograph Melbourne's skyline at night than in mid Winter when the sky is clear and there are no leave on the trees to obstruct the buildings.

Nice work.

Cheers.

Silvermb old son, do you still have the original of this shot?

The displays happen hourly after 6pm in the winter and probably after 9 in summer correct me if i am wrong about the start times, i know they happen hourly tho when its dark.

thanks everyone, the display is on the hour and follows a set routine which i've seen many a time so if you want to take pics , it's not too hard to pick the sequence and snap at the right second

yes dotts had to explain how the tripod worked, it looked more like a launch platform for an icbm, but i think i might have to go and buy one.

tays, its in your pm bin

ahh time to revive a dead topic.

just the one picture, its by night, very very dark (as you can see) of the two talls from the MCG, thats why it is dark, there are no lights looking form there to the city, exept for the MCG lights, but they face the other way. kind of blurry, but you can see the Rialto's blue lights, and Eureka with a nice big crane on it.

but yeah, sorry for the darkness, and blurryness.

I'll post one or two of my own night pics now too. Was out on the town last night and snapped many around town... but most turned out waaay unfocused :(. Dunno why as all my Caulfield and other pics were clear as a bell. Perhaps because I was using the 'Night' setting on my Kodak CX7330 ("Use at night to capture both subject and background"). Should I have used the normal 'auto' setting instead, or had I had a few more than I thought? (I am pretty sure I was holding camera quite still when taking the pics... because I can see the few definately mega blurred where I did move... most are just unfocused). Anyway, a couple of the ones that sorta turned out OK below. Tips on taking night pics appreciated.

Haven't done much night-photography yet, but obviously slow shutter-speeds lead to blurring. The Canon software that came with my new camera displays shutter speed and aperture, not just for my new camera but for my old Kodak camera as well: so presumably all these things are written into the file header.

Buy a tripod! I got one for $30 from Teds. It also helps to set the camera to take a photo after 2 seconds so that you don't move the camera while pushing down the trigger button. :)
But yeah, a tripod will help heaps.

But could it be due to the 'night' setting you think? Because my pics during the daytime just using the auto setting come out perfectly clear.... that was the first time I'd used that setting.

Yep the 'night' setting causes longer shutter speeds making it impossible to take good low light pics without a tripod or stable base.

As previously stated a tripod is essential for night pics, then you can start playing around with really long exposures. :)

Good luck.
