cntower August 20th, 2004, 02:36 AM Is Afganistan part of South Asia, Middle East or Central Asia? I've always pondered that question; some say South Asia others say Middle East and I've even heard Central Asia.
BulldozerGirl August 20th, 2004, 02:37 AM Afghanistan is a good place for an RPG.
cntower August 20th, 2004, 03:18 AM City vs City Thread I would love to see

kronik August 20th, 2004, 10:04 PM May those Taliban neatherdals rot in hell for shooting innocents in the Kabul Stadium.
What do you think members, should Afghanistan be a part of SAARC? if not now, then a few years later, when hopefully they are stronger as a nation.
Nainawaaz August 25th, 2004, 04:38 PM Kabul's city planning was good when King Amanullah was in power back in the early 20's. Regrettably, as always, the british, interefered with afghanistan's politics and helped arm his foes. After losing power, afghanistan's infustructure went with him. Although afghans make kabul seem like Paris; it is not. Even at the height of afghanistan's prosperty, Kabul was a very neglected city. Kabul's infustructure was really improved during the communists. They really started to build new buildings, univerisities, mosques and roads. Then came along the " freedom fighters" and destroyed everything. I prefer the other cities in afghanistan, like Herat city, Mazar e shareef, and jalalabad.
Sultan September 1st, 2004, 10:05 AM May those Taliban neatherdals rot in hell for shooting innocents in the Kabul Stadium.

I think Afghanistan would be part of SAARC, but not anytime soon, but then again, Afghanistan is not in South Asia, its in Central Asia, but we need to Afghanistan for transit trade to Central Asia, thats why we need peace and stability in Afghanistan, with us getting access to Central Asia, Afghanistan makes big bucks for transit trade, and prospers, and so do we :)!
that way maybe Afghanistan could become part of SAARC.

It was actually renovated and opened a long time ago.
Reconstruction of Habibia High School in Kabul (http://meakabul.nic.in/ir/2006/02/02ir01.pdf)
Habibia High School, founded in 1903 by King Amir Habibullah, is located near the famous Darulaman, just in front of Babur’s mausoleum. The country’s luminaries like President Hamid Karzai and Baba-e-Millat studied in this prestigious school. The 100-room school was extensively damaged during the decades of strife when its facade was dismantled, its furniture burnt, its ceiling lined with rocket shots and its walls punctured with bullets. Gaping holes stood in the place of the once well built windows.
India took up the task of rebuilding the school in September 2003 as New Delhi committed over $5 million for the restoration. In less than two years, the work was completed. The facade now looks elegant and the school has regained its lost glory. The destroyed laboratories don a new look. Computers are being set up for the kids, with the innovative approach of ‘Hole in the Wall’ project. This will allow children to learn skills on outdoor computers.
Most facilities, including a new electric substation with transformers, and power back-up with generators in acoustic enclosures are functional. To encourage sports amongst children, a football field and a basketball court have been laid.
Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai and Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had jointly inaugurated the rehabilitated Habibia High School on August 28, 2005.
Currently, the school has 17,000 students studying in three shifts. Besides the principal, three vice-principals and 300 teachers form the faculty of the school.
Sayed Naasir Askarzada, the principal of the school and a much respected man in Kabul, wears a happy expression on his face and a special sparkle in his eyes, as he expresses satisfaction over India’s help. When the new school session begins after winter on Navroj, the students will return to a new building, new laboratories and new playing fields, adding one more page to the long saga of India-Afghanistan friendship.

Borg-e- Shar Aaraa (Tower of City Beautification) In 1181 Islamic era Timor Shah moved the seat of his thrown from Kandahar city in the south to Kabul city in the North East as the result many architects and builders moved to Kabul and begun to work there, at the time Kabul was emerging as the heart of the country. At the head of these builders and architects was a man named Murad Kahn which today a district of the capital city is named after him as Muradkhani. These builders built some of the magnificent buildings of their times. Their work was not confined to Kabul, they built many buildings through out the country. When they built the Baag-e-Jahan Nama (World reflecting Gardens or world like gardens) Emir Abdul Rahman Khan liked their work and invited them to Kabul to build the Borg-e-Shar Araa (Tower of city beautification). At the time cement was not available so instead eggs were used to make the binding mortars. The mortar used from the white of an egg is called Saroo, Saroo is a building material made up of the white of eggs + sand + white Lime + ash and water, it has strong binding properties and little or no contraction or expansion, once dried it has strong resistant to water.
