View Full Version : KABYLIA: Land Of Beauty and Freedom
Kameel02 December 8th, 2010, 08:06 PM At the requests of some forumers here I'm opening this thread about this special place in MENA.
Intro: From Wiki
The Kabyles or Kabylians (in Kabyle language: Iqvayliyen) are the largest homogenous Algerian cultural community and they consider themselves exclusively Berber. Their traditional homeland is Kabylie (or Kabylia) in the northeast of Algeria. It is part of the Atlas Mountains and is located at the edge of the Mediterranean Sea.
Berbers are one of the 2 constitutional recognized nations of Algeria (Arabs representing the other one). Nowadays, Kabyles represent nearly 80% of the total Berber population of Algeria, and both concepts seems to be assimilated in this country.
Kabyles speak the Kabyle variety of Tamazight, the generic name for the Berber languages. Since the Berber Spring in 1980, they have been at the forefront of the fight for the official recognition of the Berber language and secularism ("laïcité") in Algeria.
The traditional religion of Kabyles is Christianity, including Donatism and Arianism heritage. Since the 19th century, they're are a vast nominal Sunni Muslim community. Recently, there has also been a rapidly growing Protestant (chiefly evanglical) community among the Kabyles.
Amoung Kabyle Muslims, the main tradition is Maraboutism, a version of heterogenous Islam mixing sunni tradition and many Kabyle cultural elements.
However, Kabyle society is known for its strong secular tradition. Religious cleavages plays minor role in political and social life.

Kabylia is about the same size and population of Lebanon.
I will try to find the pictures you want - though it's not the main purpose of the thread :P

That's not my problem, I just get annoyed when nationalism hijacks threads on SSC, this thread on the other hand is patriotism, and I'm fine with that.

Very nice place!!!!
i always knew Berbers are part of that place, but to be honest, never thought they look that European :S
Well most Kabyles are genetically classified as Eurasians.
I went with my family recently to a Lebanese wedding and they thought we are Armenians. My mom, based on her appearance, was once refused access to a conference in Cairo because they suspected her of being an Israeli spy.
Arab countries 4life December 10th, 2010, 03:26 PM Wow! Really beautiful people! Nice colour of eyes!
I have never seen 100% berber people, because most of them you can't see wheter there arab or berber... But they look more european then spanish people

Beautiful girls!!!
Kameel02 December 12th, 2010, 10:52 PM ^^ Thanx. Some of them are pretty dark and atypical by Kabyle standards (and might even be called the "N" word in Kabylia :D) but they still have the Kabylian look / charm.
What's the biggest city in the region? And do you have any photos of it?
The biggest city in Kabylia is Bejaia (Vgayet in Kabyle). You can see pictures of it through my signature link.

you mean a bond? Yea just like Arabs have a bond with each other. We also bond in hating Arabs ;)
We can understand each other a little bit but not too much. Just like Arabic, the Berber language has are very diverse dialects.
smussuw December 13th, 2010, 11:16 PM Are there normal Berbers who are not half naked and don't drink? Many of the pictures being posted seem like those berbers live abroad and and dont actually live in Amazighistan.
What is interesting in my over 6 years in this forum I came to realize (according to those people), that first Pakistanis hate us, then it become Iranians, Turks, Lebanese and now Berbers. What else to come? :)

:lol:These photos threads are all about showing the hottest and most sexually liberated girls from *insert country name here*, otherwise who would view the threads?;)
Seriously though its a beautiful country. I don't believe the stereotypes. I have a very good female friend originally from kabylia who doesn't hate Arabs and in fact speaks Arabic pretty well. She's one of the sweetest people I know + she's quite pretty like a lot of the girls in this thread. I think the biggest problem in general with people in the MENA is that they're too busy talking about who they hate or can't stand (usually anyone who isn't part of their ethnic group/religion/tribe etc) bc ya know it's a lot easier to be angry at others instead of fixing your own problems
btw Kameel02 the above comment isn't directed at you:lol: it's just a general observation that I wanted to get out of my system. I'm enjoying the scenery in the pics a lot. keep it up:cheers:

It's called Kabylia smartass.
And what do you mean by "normal" Berbers? Just becasue they drink and dont wear the ugly hijabs they are abnormal to you? Keep your cave mentality at your home please :)
And Kabyles in partciular are NON religious wherever they are - it's in the nature of our culture :) Many in Kabylia like me converted to atheism for Pete's sake.
The few religious Kabyles live in Arab cities. It's obvious why they became religious.

No it's okay I mentioned the word "hate" as a joke.
But in general, we view ourselves as very different (culturally and mentality wise) from Arabs. So different that many of us wish for autonomy.
People who think like "smussuw" just disgust and annoy us. And many/most Arabs think like her.

And I'm not even talking here about what Arabs historically and presently are doing to Berbers.
So " Arab hate" here seems natural and justified.
KWT December 14th, 2010, 01:45 AM Kameel if you hate Arabs so much why are you constantly in the ME section? Why don't you go get a life somewhere else?
You know, open that thread I suggested earlier and you and your racist friends can troll it all you want.
Ramy H December 14th, 2010, 01:49 AM I've decided I dislike....
1) People who recognize themselves as arabs (culturally, ethnically, politically whatever) and make me feel like I have to be one of them or else I have no identity
and
2) People who hate the arabs (culturally, ethnically, politically whatever) and make me feel I have to side with them or I am just another 1)
Really guys? From showing pictures of Kabylia to "these people hate us" and "we are better because we don't think like them" discussion. And I thought the arab union thread would have gotten the ignorance out of everyone... soub7an illi 5ala2kon
abdeka December 14th, 2010, 02:01 AM It's called Kabylia smartass.
I think you live in a parallel universe or something like this. No ?
The wilaya of Tizi Ouzou have more than 8000 mosques. This represents half of the number of mosques in Algeria.

You're a sick person.

People keep trying to be civil to you, and you keep acting like a smartass. Just because smussmuss or whatever insulted you, doesn't mean you can go along insulting all Arabs, cave mentality? LOL, it looks like you barely get electricity over there. Also, to the other self-righteous people here, saying Lebanese hate Arabs, why don't you keep your generalizations to yourselves. If some Lebanese hate Arabs, then that's their business, at least they are not parading it on this forum, therefore it is none of your concern.
Herzeleid December 14th, 2010, 02:33 AM At least the Venezuelans love them! :D
where is the ignore button when u need it.....:ohno:
חבר1.0 December 14th, 2010, 03:01 AM where is the ignore button when u need it.....:ohno:
Herzi, you can't ignore the truth.
CologneOujda December 14th, 2010, 03:20 AM Kameel02 stop talking for other Amazighs! Amazighs are very religious people. If not why are they still muslims when they already drove out the arabs?
And why do Kabyles have an arabic name when they don't like the arabs?
P.S.: It's Amazigh and not Berber. Berber was given to us by the romans.
smussuw December 14th, 2010, 07:58 AM ^^
u are forgeting druze, kurds and jews....:)Well, I don't remember any campaign here from them so, maybe when we get more druze and Kurd forumers. As for the Jews, we historically hate each others so its fine :P ...
The few religious Kabyles live in Arab cities. It's obvious why they became religious.Well, seriously, with the exception of those village pictures people, even the ones wearing the Kabyles traditional clothes look like they are participating in some folklore ceremony or something in France maybe?
And I can say the same thing about why those particular Kabyles living in the west became atheist.
Arab countries 4life December 14th, 2010, 12:16 PM We, Amazigh of Morocco, we have no hatered toward the arabs ...
We love Saudi arabia, kuwait, EAU, Egypt :D ( those people are our bothers )
That was what I always was saying to him! But he and some Israeli guy wouldn't believe me!

The idea of having a flag representing a race/ethnicity is pretty stupid and racist to me. You are acting as if Algeria is the only multi-ethnic or multi-cultural country in the world.
Its sad to see many amazigh putting this flag rather than their own countries' flags.
FreeMan1 December 14th, 2010, 08:29 PM Why is it sad to put up a flag representing a proud minority people?
Nothing racist about it at all!
Kameel02 December 14th, 2010, 10:46 PM Well, seriously, with the exception of those village pictures people, even the ones wearing the Kabyles traditional clothes look like they are participating in some folklore ceremony or something in France maybe?

All I can say is that every picture posted here is of 100% Kabyle people.
Mostly in Kabylia, but also in France and Canada, the 2 countries with the highest Kabyle communities. And believe me there is no difference mentality wise between a Kabyle from France and Kabylia, they are both as proud of their culture.
Also this thread is specifically about Kabylia and Kabyles, a very exceptional subgroup of Berbers.
There are religious Berbers yes, but they are NOT Kabyles.
Please get the difference between Kabyles and the rest of the Berbers.
Kabyles are the most rebellious and freedom seeking of all Berbers.

This flag specifically represents who we are before anything else: Berbers.
The Algerian flag represents Islam - and honestly it doesnt represent me as a non-Muslim and fails to seperate state from religion. I hate flags with religious symbols.
Kameel02 December 14th, 2010, 10:54 PM I think you live in a parallel universe or something like this. No ?
The wilaya of Tizi Ouzou have more than 8000 mosques. This represents half of the number of mosques in Algeria.
Yet the people of Tizi ouzou are actually the least religious people I know with the highest number of bars and atheists.
Those mosques are empty. In my village the mosque has been locked up for years and people wanna destroy it coz nobody uses it.
Kameel02 December 14th, 2010, 10:58 PM :lol:These photos threads are all about showing the hottest and most sexually liberated girls from *insert country name here*, otherwise who would view the threads?;)
Those girls are 100% Kabyle.
Google image "Kabyle" or "Bylka" and see what you get.
And those are pretty normal looking Kabyles.
Kabyle beauty is legendary.
þopsï December 14th, 2010, 11:01 PM Does Kabylia have representatives or parliament members or any political party/movement active in the Algerian political scene?
Gorgeous landscape btw, thanks for sharing.

FFS and RCD, the two main opposition parties were leading by Kabyles. The P.M is a Kabyle, Ahmed Ouyahia

Kameel02 December 14th, 2010, 11:14 PM Popsi: Yes we do have government representatives that specifically run and negotiate Kabyle affairs with the Algerian government.
There is also a Kabyle government in Europe (MAK) that is lobbying for Kabyle autonomy.

Better humble and mentally-evolved than rich and retarded.
We are fighting for all kinds of freedoms and decades ahead in our thinking than most Arabs.

That's what I thought. You do not know much about Kabylie. People there are very religious.
