This tower is currently during the 13th floor BTW.

I think the design is boring.

I hope they have updated the design a little to make it more modern looking. But hey, at least it's taller than before :)

I'm not sure about the design change, because they increased the height which I'm still wondering that design have to be changed as well, either a lot or not much.

What is the big tall building in the background?? How old is this rendering?? It looks really nice. Seem a little outdated though.

Too bad no mass transit besides buses runs through that area. It'd good to get people out of the cars when they want to visit the BMA.

In case you guys are interested what other new City Hall project in other place looks like, here are some pics from San Jose, California. San Jose is the biggest city in the Silicon Valley. It's also the biggest city in the San Francisco Bay Area with population of about 1 million. The Bay Area Metro area has about 6 million + people. This project has caused a lot of contraversies since it has large amount of cost over run. The building itself is estimated to cost $388 million and maybe up to $ 415 million, depends on who you ask.

BMA to raise B15bn for major infrastructure projects


The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is raising 15 billion baht through a bond issue and mobilisation of public funds to finance three major projects, two of them infrastructural improvements.

Panich Vikitset, the Bangkok deputy governor, said the Kasikornbank would be hired as a consultant and planner for the investment.

Five billion baht would be spent building four more Bus Rapid Transit routes, branching out from the existing Mor Chit-Kilometre 8 and Rama II Road-Ratchapruek Road routes.

The second project, costing five billion baht, would involve construction of a waste water treatment facility at Klong Toey.

The BMA would issue bonds to obtain funding for the two projects which were likely to attract public interest since they would solve traffic and environmental problems.

Another project _ the five-billion-baht fourth-phase construction of the second city hall in Din Daeng _ would require investment of public funds to start off. After the building was complete, state agencies renting office space would pay rent which would pay the investors back as dividends.

The bonds would likely be issued in October, the deputy governor said.

He said, however, the bonds deemed to increase the public debt would need government consideration. Kasikornbank would study the viability of each project.

Hey, I'm just wondering....what's teh difference between the reinforced concrete commonly used in Thai highrises and those big steel pieces used in America?

The reinforce concrete is way much heavior than the steel, which is good for the windy situation and the constrction technics is more familiar to thais. Also the cost of materials are cheaper than steel...

waiting for more info.

Steel Frame :

Quicker construction speed, More expensive, greater flexibility and wind resistance, In the case you mentioned that most US building use Steel frame structure there is a reason that US is one of the largest steel manufacturer in the world which can provide cheaper material to local constuction industries.

Concrete rainforced :

Slower construction speed, Economically cheap, and infact most Residential structures that has more DL (dead load) than those Office towers are mostly use rainforced structure due to stronger weightload resistance level.

Concrete is better for Fire-resistance. If WTC were built of concrete, they "MAY" not be destroyed...

For the Windy situation, steel tower will "sway" more than concrete tower due to the weight of the tower...but for earthquake, the flexibility is needed, so, most of the buildings in the region are built of steel...

The reason why they are not seen in eu or us is also about the workers. Concrete structure need nore time to complete and the wage compensation is way higher...since the remuneration here in southeast asia (except Singapore)is cheaper, it's not a problem...but for the european or us...hehehehe

Yeah, you are right it's kinda boring to see another white box standing right there but look!! it is not hotel or condominium but it is a new city hall so don't expect too much from it cuz it is a governmental office so they see no need to decorate it extravagantly cuz it's waste a budget and 37 storey is really great though. Look at the pic above , see how tall it is. furthermore it is absolutely better than nothing there or even low-rise one. Do you agree with me?

Anyway, I myself really hope that our city hall would turn out to be better than its rendering though.

ายพนิช วิกิตเศรษฐ์ รองผู้ว่าราชการกรุงเทพมหานคร (กทม.) เปิดเผยความคืบหน้าการระดมทุนจากภาคประชาชนเพื่อนำมาเป็นเงินนอกงบประมาณของ กทม. ว่า เป็นที่แน่นอนแล้วว่า กทม.จะออกหุ้นกู้เอสพีวี หรือที่เรียกว่า การแปลงสินทรัพย์เป็นหลักทรัพย์ จำนวน 5,000 ล้านบาท โดยจะออกเป็น 2 ชุด ๆ ละ 2,500 ล้านบาท เพื่อนำมาใช้ในโครงการก่อสร้างอาคารศาลาว่าการ กทม. 2 ดินแดง หลังใหม่ 27 ชั้น ซึ่งเป็นการระดมทุนรูปแบบเดียวกับที่รัฐบาลใช้ในโครงการก่อสร้างศูนย์ราชการ จ.นนทบุรี วงเงิน 24,000 ล้านบาท

Personally, I like the 3rd prize the most. It's modern and contemporary design.

It tends to gets uglier and uglier as the prize gets closer to the top...lol

I think reasons the 1st prize won is easily because Energy efficiency, Only lOW-E Glass use for the 3rd prize isnt enough. and Traditional architecture influences in the 1st prize which are quite strong, set-back windows, triangular gable, Double Glazing Windows and Fenestration Curtainwalls, daylight efficient, Wind shadow prevents.

but the winner is not that bad..........

The third one reminds me of that building in Philadelphia designed by Murphy Jahn, I forgot the name. There are similar spires at the top.

^^ BMA spending money on the BTS instead?

In a way I hope it's delayed so much they decide it's time to change the original design. Maybe a facade that is more contemporary and exposes less of the painted concrete. A design that advertises BMA as open/transparent and ready for the future. But not at any cost :)

ปลัดกรุงเทพมหานครตรวจความคืบหน้าและตรวจรับการก่อสร้างอาคารศาลาว่าการกทม.2 ซึ่งการดำเนินงานเป็นไปด้วยความเรียบร้อย สถานที่จอดรถรองรับได้กว่า 2,400 คัน เตรียมหารือเพิ่มเติมแก้ปัญหาการจราจรบริเวณรอบอาคาร คาดแล้วเสร็จและพร้อมเปิดใช้งานทุกโครงการปี 2555


ดร.พงศ์ศักติฐ์ เสมสันต์ ปลัดกรุงเทพมหานคร เปิดเผยภายหลังลงพื้นที่ตรวจความคืบหน้าและตรวจรับงานโครงการก่อสร้างศาลาว่าการกทม.2 ระยะที่ 3 ครั้งที่ 22 คืบหน้าเกือบ 90% เร็วกว่าแผนที่วางไว้


ปลัดกรุงเทพมหานคร กล่าวว่า ในการลงพื้นที่ตรวจความคืบหน้าและตรวจรับงานโครงการก่อสร้างศาลาว่าการกทม.2 ระยะที่ 3 ครั้งที่ 22 ในวันนี้เป็นส่วนของอาคารสำนักงานสภากทม. ซึ่งเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของอาคารศาลาว่าการกทม.2 ในภาพรวมการดำเนินงานก่อสร้างเป็นไปด้วยความเรียบร้อย รวมถึงสถานที่จอดรถที่เตรียมพร้อมไว้ให้บริการรองรับได้กว่า 2,400 คัน ระบบระบายอากาศและการป้องกันอัคคีภัยเป็นไปด้วยความเรียบร้อยตามแผนงานที่กำหนดไว้ และจากการหารือร่วมกับผู้จัดการโครงการและผู้อำนวยการสำนักการโยธาคาดว่าจะแล้วเสร็จทันตามกำหนดเวลา ส่วนโครงการที่ 2 ที่เกิดความล่าช้าสาเหตุเกิดจากมีการปรับเปลี่ยนแบบบางส่วน ในขณะนี้ได้ข้อสรุปแล้วและจะเริ่มดำเนินการต่อได้ในเร็วๆ นี้ นอกจากนี้ในเดือน พ.ค. 51 จะหารือกับสำนักการจราจรและขนส่งเพิ่มเติมในด้านการจัดจราจรรอบศาลาว่าการกทม.2 เพื่อให้เป็นไปด้วยความสะดวก รวดเร็ว และป้องกันการจราจรติดขัด โดยเฉพาะการเชื่อมต่อการจราจรรอบๆ ศาลาว่าการกทม.2 กับเส้นทางหลัก เช่น ถ.วิภาวดี ต่อไป


สำหรับการส่งมอบงานโครงการก่อสร้างศาลาว่าการกทม.2 ระยะที่ 3 ครั้งที่ 22 สรุปผลการดำเนินงาน ณ วันที่ 8 เม.ย. 51 ดังนี้ แผนงานก่อสร้างที่กำหนดไว้ 84.89% ผลงานก่อสร้างจริง 87.89% ซึ่งเร็วกว่าแผนงานที่วางไว้ 3% (ประมาณ 45 วัน) โดยคาดว่าโครงการก่อสร้างศาลาว่าการกทม.2 ทุกโครงการจะแล้วเสร็จและเปิดใช้งานได้เร็วที่สุดประมาณปี 2555

เมื่อวันที่ 16 ต.ค. นายอภิรักษ์ โกษะโยธิน ผู้ว่าฯกทม. พร้อมคณะผู้บริหาร กทม. เดินทางตรวจความคืบหน้าการก่อสร้างอาคารศาลาว่าการ กทม. 2 ดินแดง เนื้อที่ประมาณ 80 ไร่ นายอภิรักษ์ กล่าวภายหลังว่า อาคารศาลาว่าการ กทม.2 มีชื่ออย่างเป็นทางการว่า Bangkok City Tower ประกอบด้วยอาคารหลักสูง 37 ชั้น อาคารขนาบข้างสูง 27 ชั้น และอาคารที่ประชุมสภา 1 อาคาร ในเบื้องต้นคาดว่าโครงสร้างของอาคารหลัก และอาคารที่ประชุมสภา จะก่อสร้างแล้วเสร็จพร้อมกันในเดือน ก.ย. ปี 2552 ส่วนการตกแต่งภายในต้องจัดสรรงบกลางปี 521,000 ล้านบาท และจะแล้วเสร็จพร้อมย้ายเข้าในช่วงไตรมาสที่ 2 ปี 2553 ส่วนการดำเนินการส่วนที่เหลือ มอบหมายให้สำนักการโยธา เสนอแผนก่อสร้างมาที่ตนภายในสัปดาห์หน้า เพื่อพิจารณาจัดสรรงบประมาณ ทั้งนี้ได้ตั้งเป้าหมายที่จะผลักดันโครงการให้แล้วเสร็จในปี 2555 สำหรับความล่าช้า เนื่องจากได้มีการเปลี่ยนแบบการให้มีความร่วมสมัย อีกทั้งต้องการให้เป็นอาคารประหยัดพลังงานรักษ์สิ่งแวดล้อม

โครงการนี้เริ่มขึ้นในสมัย ร.อ.กฤษฎา อรุณวงษ์ ณ อยุธยา อดีตผู้ว่าฯกทม. เมื่อปี 2536 ซึ่งได้ดำเนินการก่อสร้างมาเป็นระยะ และในสมัยนายสมัคร สุนทรเวช เป็นผู้ว่าฯกทม. ก็ได้มีการปรับแบบก่อสร้างให้มีขนาดใหญ่มากขึ้น เพราะมีวัตถุประสงค์ต้องการรวมทุกสำนักที่สังกัด กทม.มารวมอยู่ในพื้นที่ดังกล่าวทั้งหมด จนล่าสุดในสมัยนายอภิรักษ์ 1 ก็มีการปรับแบบและวัสดุอุปกรณ์อีกครั้ง.

นี่สร้างมา 7 ปีเลยหรอครับเนี่ย แล้วตามแบบมีสามตึก 7ปี พึ่งจะได้ตึกเดียว ว่าแต่ กทม.ต้องใช้ตึกถึง3ตึกเลยหรอเนี่ย

สร้างๆหยุดๆ ค้างคากันมานาน
แต่ก็ดีใจที่เห็นมันสำเร็จ และพอใส่ฟินเข้าไปก็ดูดีขึ้นอีกเยอะเลย

อีกสองตึกคงอีก14ปี
