a walk over the brooklyn bridge and a stroll on the brooklyn heights promenade (if the weather is good) is an amazing way to take in both the downtown, midtown and brooklyn skylines. Its a commitment of time (an hour for both), but well worth it.

Yea, that's why we would do Downtown in the morning then Midtown into the afternoon and evening since to get the true Midtown feel, it's around that time anyway.

What do you all think about this tentative plan so far? I didn't include the skyscrapers that we'll see, just sites. If you have anymore suggestions, comments, additions, for this Lower Manhattan portion, feel free to add them. After getting off the Manhattan bridge I figure we could check out the neighborhoods like Chinatown, Soho, etc.

I know next nothing about getting around in the NYC. Need some help!!

If I'm arriving by bus (from B-more) at the NY Port Authority on 8th Ave, what trains/bus do I need to take to get to the Winter Garden(or can anyone point me to a website that can assist me).

I would like to catch the 11:45 pm bus (latest departure) back to B-more on the same day (would stay over night but the hotel rooms are to damn expensive). Will I have time to complete the tour (not sure how long we're going to be meeting) and make it back to the bus station or should I suck it up and pay for a hotel room for one night?

jacksom - I'd take the departing bus that same night but keep in mind you're probably gonna be real tired too. If I was you, I'd stay the night only if I expect to do more in the city the next day.

There is a hospitality convention going on in the NYC on the weekend of Nov. 13. Because I waited until the last minute (damn right I'm a procrastinator), just about all of the hotels in Manhattan are booked. Looks like I’ll be busing it back to B-more that night.

If you really wanna stay the night, don't restrict yourself to hotels in Manhattan, you could look into one of the outer boroughs too. (Forget the Bronx and Staten Island :D)

LeCom - Either way, even with rain, I'm gonna meet up at the Winter Garden and we could chill indoors at places and take the subway around. I'm not worried about a cloudy day (even though it would suck having a dreary gray day but we can't have everything.)

walk over it

after that look for nearest subway to head to ESB or Times Square or Rockefeller center,..

I just noticed that even though I've been to the Garden dozens of times, I never entered through this side. always used the westside entrance.

Alright, I say that we need to visit the main construction sites in the town. we gotta pass 7 WTC (that's easy), possibly 2 Gold and 45 Liberty, if we cross the Bridge we might wanna get some uc stuff in the Heights, and I say that if we take a train to Midtown we go off somewhere in Murray Hill cause there's many highrisers u/c over there that I never been close to or never even heard of. Checking out Hearst would be nice too.
Damn it seems like I'll need all my camera cartridges and some spare batteries.

Time to ad another story of messed up trip to/from the meet:

Had nothin' planned for yesterday except getting to JFK and getting on that Finnair flight to Helsinki (connection back to Stockholm from there). Getting on the J at Bowery - no problem. Getting of the J at Jamaica - no problem. Taking the Airtrain to termainal 8/9 - no problem. Waiting for the check in to open - no problem. Checking in - Flight cancelled!!! :(:(:( Rebooked to SAS direct to Sthlm - full. LOT to Warszawa - oh joy. Finnair to Helsinki - eh. SAS to Sthlm - took some convincing to get Finnair to put us on it (the fact that my brother had to pick up his son from daycare on time finally convinced them we couldn't wait for the next Finnair flight). Missing the buss to our hood/'burb from the aiport by 5 min 'cause we had to wait for our lugage to unload - fun. Next direct bus going 1½ hour later - rotflmfao. Taking the bus downtown instead and thus sitting here at work wthout having been home yet, when I was supposed to have gotten 6 hours of rest/shower/food inbetween - priceless.
