I really can't understand the fuss made here about Manorama. To be honest, i am not a big fan of Manorama, and i am being true here. Infact, i hate them for many reasons. But why should i whack it when i myself read it, use it. Touchstone, i feel every media here has its pros and cons.

The same people who targets Manorama each and every time, why the hell do they read it then? Copy their content here? Paste their reports!! Have the balls to ignore it completely!

I think,it is a good step taken by GoK to give the J C Daniel Award to eminent actor JosPrakash. He is in the film field since 1951 . Before that he has proved his acting skill in drama also. He never went to catch the legs of heads of different film authorities. He established his own style in the films.

Most films tell a story through three stages — first, the setting and environment of the story is introduced to the viewer; next, a conflict that forms the central idea of the tale is brought in; and towards the end, the conflict is resolved.

The King and the Commissioner directed by Shaji Kailas and written by Ranji Panikkar, however, dispenses with this structure of storytelling, choosing instead to unveil the whole plot within the first half hour, leaving no doubt as to the real purpose of the film — to subject the viewer to a deluge of tight close-ups of actors Mammooty and Suresh Gopi, which it does faithfully for most of its three hours and twenty minutes.

Thirty minutes into the movie comes the all too familiar shot of a car screeching to a halt and a pair of shiny shoes descending on the dry ground. The camera cuts to a tight close up of Mammootty, as his fans in the theatre break into boisterous applause. There is nothing much to cheer for in the rest of the film, during the length of which the audience is subjected to a series of monologues, smeared with alliterations and expletives.

The King and The Commissioner are films that have a sort of cult status among some fans of Mammootty and Suresh Gopi. The films portrayed them as fearless, albeit similarly verbose, young men of integrity who took on the forces of corruption.

Little logic

In this film, which takes place along the corridors of power in Delhi, Mammootty and Suresh Gopi don the roles of IAS officer Joseph Alex and Bharatchandran IPS respectively. It, however, dispenses with all logic and instead relies solely on the two actors and the nostalgic factor. The film, in its rare moments of insight, touches upon themes like police brutality, media sensationalism and the nexus between politicians, bureaucrats, police, and arms dealers. An excess of dialogues with the National Anthem playing in the background, however, does not make an inspiring film. The makers also seem to have forgotten that the power of film is its ability to show, not tell. What the movie could do with is a pinch of ‘ sense, sensibility and sensitivity.'

As per reliable sources, the producers of a high profile film made last year are in a state of panic. The reason? One of the songs from the film has been a straight copy from a foreign album. It is almost sure by now that the producer will have to cough up some lakhs as compensation.

The foreign company has taken up the issue and there is a great debate happening on who is going to shoulder the responsibility. The music director, when last heard, is living in a state of shock!

But then, most of the tunes that are being presented in Malayalam have inspirations elsewhere. A prominent singer turned composer had shamelessly copied songs from an Egyptian singer’s album, which became some kind of a joke on the various social networking sites.

All these are happening at a time when plagiarism is regarded as something of an accepted trend in Malayalam. Malayali directors are finding inspirations not just from Hollywood as they did earlier, but also from other language films including Chinese and Latin American ones.

The new trend in Malayalam is to copy story ideas from Bollywood. After a prominent Bollywood director’s thriller was copied and made into a horrible Malayalam film recently, another film from the same director is getting a ‘new treatment’ in Malayalam of late. The new film is nearing completion now.

And surprisingly, the makers of these Malayalam films pose themselves as great talents even after all these shameful acts of plagiarism. But the real panic happens for them when the makers of the original seek legal ways against piracy.

Biju Menon is stellar. Kunchacko done well. Asif overacted and hyperventilated into a disaster. The girl sure can model. A Malayalam film song shot entirely under water

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Could an entire song sequence in a movie be shot under water? That too in a Malayalam film?

�Fifth Element Film, a film production house, has created history of sorts by filming the love song ‘Kaatharamaam Mizhi’ under water, which will be one of the attractions of the upcoming Malayalam film ‘Ettekaal Second.’

Karthik and K S Chitra lent their voices to the lyrics written by Rafeek Ahamed and composed by Santhosh-Colin.

The underwater shoot was directed by Vinod Vijay, who has been a post-production director with Cloud Nine Entertainment, Mumbai. ‘’We worked with topnotch equipment dedicated to underwater photography. The entire process was conducted in consultation with experts at the Annenberg Center in Los Angeles. And we have results to show,’’ he said. Padmasurya and Gimi play the lead in this love story. Other faces are Janardanan, Suraj Venjarammood, Vijayaraghavan, Madhu, Urmila Unni and Kollam Thulasi. The film is directed by Kanakaraghavan. “We have approached the Limca Book of Records and the Diving Almanac Book of Records in Canada. We hope to claim the world record for this,’’� Doney Joseph, CEO, Fifth Element, said.

The film has completed its first schedule of shoot and the crew is taking a short break before resuming it in mid-April.

“Everyone told us it would be an impossible feat, considering the huge budgets needed and the sheer difficulty of doing everything, including directing, prompting and lipping underwater. But we were adamant and we found the right people to make this fantasy come true,’’ Pavithra Krishnan of Fifth Element said.

Saw 'Ordinary' yesterday from Q Cinemas, Park Square, Whitefield. Good, watchable film. This is the third week a Malayalam film is running here, which is not usual.

It was my first visit to Q Cinemas, its ok..General seats not reclinable. It seems no seperate Gold Class screen, but just one row Gold Class seats in the hall.

22 Female Kottayam is also running nearby, at Cinemax @ Total Mall, Outer Ring Road with shows at 6.15 pm & 7.30 pm. Yet to go to that multiplex, anyway not today, will be trying some other time.

22 female kottayam is an excellent movie, much better than SaltnPepper. I would rate this better than traffic and Beautiful. May not be a right movie to watch with small kids , as there are few violent scenes on which kids might panic.

Till Saturday I had known about only about exclusive ‘Gold Class’ screens. The top Multiplex operators like PVR & Fame have this format.

Exclusive Gold Screens are there at most multiplexes, like PVR @ Forum Koramangala, Fame @ Forum Value, Whitefield etc. Gold Screens have separate waiting lounges too. Average Ticket rate would be Rs.500/- which may go up to Rs.1000/- during the release dates of block buster films. Sometimes, some discounted rates would also be given.

I am told that there would be one more luxury level, ‘Signature Class’ coming up at PVR @ ORION, seems to have supply of liquor too.

I was checking out Q cinemas for the first time, it is not up to the standards of PVR or Fame. The seats were not reclinable too. Rate was lesser, at Rs.170/- whereas it is around Rs.210/- in Fame.

Grand Master censored

UTV Motion Pictures` eagerly awaited Grand Master has been censored in Thiruvananthapuram today.

The B Unnikrishnan directed investigative thriller has been given a clean U certificate without any cuts.

The censor board members who saw the film were raving about it and called UTV`s G Dhananjayan and Unnikrishnan to the discussion room and congratulated them for making such a taut thriller.

The Regional Censor Board Officer is said to have mentioned that it is a very good film they have seen after a long time and said that it is entertaining, engaging and emotional.

Grand Master will now release in 130 screens plus worldwide through Max Lab in Kerala and UTV in rest of India and overseas on May 3. The film is sure to take an earth shattering opening.

If there is that much fan following for Bollywood stars then Bollywood movies should be hit in Kerala like Tamil movies. Some dubbed telugu movies collect much better than Hindi movies. Even superhit Bollywood movies run for only a few weeks even in top cities. The story in other towns is still worse. You can easily get ticket for a Bollywood movie for FDFS in most of the releasing centers. Can't think about that for a Tamil super star movie.

There are some young guys in cities who are fan of Bollywood. But the number is not significant from a distributor's point of few.

No. Sharukh Khan, Amir Khan, Salman Khan and Hrithik roshan have a huge fan base in Kerala. In Trivandrum SL complex, during the release of Don 2, flex boards of SRK fans association were all over the complex. And a huge crowd was in the compex on the first day. Same for Ra.One and Bodygaurd. But bollywood movies won't get a long run because family audiences avoid it.

Even Emraan Hashmi has fans association in Kerala.:)

I read a news article about a Bollywood movie (couldn't recollect which movie) couple of days back, in which they have listed each major collection centre in the coutry. Even though the North Indian cities are way ahead, Kochi also contributed to the collection.

And yeah, we have strong fan base for Bollywood movies in Kochi. You just need to see the crowd at Sreedhar, Padma or the multiplexes for that matter.

Went to watch this movie yesterday, as much of the anticipated Malluwood flicks have not released here yet. My one word review!

Terrible!

I loved that song of Malloosingh, both on radio and also the video.

Looks like Unni Mukundan didn't have to act. Just one angry expression on the face. Good going.

New Delhi: If all goes well, Bollywood diva Isha Sharvani will soon make her debut in Malayalam. It is learnt that the gorgeous actor-dancer has been roped in by debutant director Pramod Payyannur to play the role of Suhra in his upcoming movie 'Balyakalasakhi'. Isha will pair up with Mammootty, who will be enacting the role of Majeed in the movie.
According to sources close to the production crew, Isha has already expressed her willingness to do the role of Suhra. "She just wants to do something other than glamorous roles that are being offered to her in other languages," sources said.
The much-waited movie 'Balyakalasakhi' is based on the late Vaikom Mohammed Basheer's famous novel with the same title. Basheer had mentioned several times that 'Balyakalasakhi' has a lot of autobiographical elements in it and that he indeed is Majeed. The movie will begin with a mature Majeed who is now in Kolkata. This is for the second time that Mammootty is giving life to a Basheerian character.
Isha, who made her debut with Subhash Ghai's 'Kisna', is at present doing a special cameo in Surya's 'Maatraan'. The actor will also play the female lead in Vikram's new movie 'David'.

Yeah, me too saw the movie.... Right from the start of murder scene, I was wondering, I have seen this somewhere.... But couldn't recollect excatly..... The sea-side coffee pub run by Alice, the theory of Alice in Wonderland, the cup mug, video clip, the priest etc were quite familar........

Only late in evening, I realized, it was the first story of BW series telecasted some 10/12 years back...... Infact, it was Unnikrishnan's forunte, many viewers of BW itself might have forgotten its original stories......

Perhaps, it might be for the first time in Malayalam history, a Mallu serial remade into movie.... Yeah, 3rd murder and reason for murders were different.....

The climax is almost a straight lift from Seniors movie...... But the whole package was good.... Be it a copy or not, I liked it well........

but i was really shockd with the story...B. unnikrishnan said that it s his own story and this story was in his mind for years..then what went wrong...?

I am not sure... But heard from many other forums that the B.Unnikrishnan was the scriptwriter for Black N White series.....

If its true, surely both serial and movie are really his babies.... I don't think, Viji Thampy is really good to make a series of highly intelligent thriller stories like BW....

I still remember, one murder investigation story of BW, where Sidiquee discovers that the victim died due to heart attack artifically induced to make a murder into natural death, by injecting air bubbles into the body.... These things are not at all common knowledge/domain of public....

So, I expect, a person like Unnikrishnan might be the one who wrote BW series.... Anyway, the story was really interesting........

Read somewhere that the story is loosely based upon "ABC Murders" by Agatha Christie. I'm not sure of the plot but could someone clarify if this is true?
