those are two of my faves, too. In fact thanks for the suggestion as I am now listening to Reckless! I think their music freaks out a lot of people but I love it. My
all time favourite song of theirs is Crimewave:

2010 has been a great year for the Canadian music scene. Far better then the mass marketed crap we have to deal with from south of the border. In fact I think it's safe to say that 2010 has been the best year for Canadian music.

My top ten bands from 2010 in no particular order

K-OS
Suuns
Karkwa
Caribou
Arcade Fire
Hooded Fang
Diamond Rings
Said The Whale
The Russian Futurists
Great Lake Swimmers

It's tough to only choose 10.

I do not really have a top 10! However, I definetely have songs that probably will be there. Unfortunately, most of them are not English.

A song when a Tamil boy falls for an English Girl, Set during the British Raj, so shows Urban Chennai during that time (circa 1940)

you don't know robyn? or the drums? most of that stuff is pretty common - i guess it depends what u watch or listen to - almost all of it has been featured on Gossip Girl

I just saw Tron, one of my favorite movies of the year. Shot in Vancouver with the VFX done here in Toronto using Imax Cameras and effects done with Canadian software. We are a tallented bunch.

I tip my hat to all of my Vancouver counterparts that worked on it.

For everyday listening, I certainly prefer the a more 'underground', indie rock genre of music. They don't have the big managers pushing their music to get a shit ton of airplay, and don't receive much in the way of advertising etc. That doesn't necessarily mean their music is any better or any worse than the big labels, but I find indie rock to have its own specific artistic aesthetic, which is appealing to me. :)

This is the first time that I have ever seen disrespecting musicians like her, doing lovely and respectable music. She makes REAL music. All of her songs have deeper meaning.

Or maybe you're listening to screamo, metal, or house, and bash music and lyrics that you don't really understand, like her love songs?

She is incomparable to the one below:

What's not to understand about her music? It's pretty simple predictable stuff. I tend not to listen to easy/soft rock, or todays hits channels unlress stuck in an elevator. But hey to each their own and it was wrong of me to make fun.

One of my favs of the year did a good job of making my area look ghetto but a happy ghetto.

I live in a self designed bubble, but was a little surprised how out of the loop I felt after reading your list. The only mainstream stuff I ever listened to was pre 1990. Now I tend to just listen to the same stuff I listened to back then. I'm not really aware of too many singers/groups that came out after 1990.

I know who the super famous are, but not familiar with their stuff.

No, I don't know who Robyn, the Drums, etc are. I know who Joy Division is though. Gossip Girl? I have no clue what that is. Is it a column in a magazine/online or a television/radio show?

If it's on television, there's a very good chance I've never heard of it. I see ads for television shows on the subway, but beyond that I'd have no way of being introduced to these things. The tv gets turned on for the Colbert Report, the National, TVO, and very little else. Commercial breaks get muted, I have 'picture in picture' on the ready to avoid commercials, or then I leave the room.

I used to watch the Daily Show, but feel that it's less funny than it used to be. Maybe compared to Stephen Colbert everything is a little less funny.
