HRANO help asked
in boycott of Coke
BY CARLA GOMEZ
The Confederation of Sugar Producers Associations Inc. yesterday asked the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Negros Occidental to boycott Coca-Cola products in support of the sugar industry’s protest against the firm’s importation of sugar premixes and high fructose corn sugar, instead of buying local sugar.
CONFED Negros-Panay Chapter chairman Raymond Montinola in a letter to Pat Cajili, HRANO president, said “The boycott move will be strengthened for sure if members of HRANO commit themselves to stop patronizing Coca-Cola products while it continues to import premix and HFCS, or at least give options to customers for other brands should there be existing commitments for exclusive marketing.”
“We urge you to join us in this boycott move. After all, the survival of the local sugar industry is undeniably interlinked with the interest of hotel and restaurant owners whose business is most likely to be adversely affected by any deterioration in the economic condition of this predominantly sugar-producing province,” Montinola said.
He said HRANO’s support is very critical, and added that Coca-Cola’s importation of sugar premixes is seen a ploy to avoid the payment of the proper tariff duties for imported sugar.
He also said the use of HFCS raises health-related concerns in the light of issues regarding genetically-modified organisms or GMO.
JB Baylon, public affairs and communication director of Coca-Cola and president of the Beverage Industry Association, last week stressed that Coke’s importation of premixes that contain sugar at zero tariff is allowed under Executive Order 850.
Baylon said Coke had to import its sugar premixes from Thailand because prices in the Philippines reached a high of P2,700 per Lkg this crop year that was much higher than rates elsewhere.
However, if prices in the Philippines are not so high that their firm will not lose, there is no question that Coca-Cola will buy locally, he added.
Baylon also debunked claims that HFCS is a health hazard, pointing out that its use is approved by the Philippine Food and Drug Administration, and by similar agencies in other countries.*CPG

i know boycott is not the solution, but i hope matawagan sg attention ang coke kag ang aton mga government officials with this move. i hope this can be solved the soonest.
note: the current millgate price of sugar is p1200. a dramatic drop from 2500 last december. pro look at the price sa supermarkets daw wla mn ghapon ga change. traders lang ga ginansya and not the planters and farmers contrary to popular beliefs.

This is a very sensitive na issue. Pero if you will compare sang ginbulig sang coke compare sa planters its an odd na comparison. Ang mga planters ya nd ang kalolooy sini nga issue kundi ang mga CARP Beneficiaries that is into sugarcane farming man. If you notice, its not the big planters who started this call but rather ang mga magagmay. Nag upod na lang na ya ang mga so called "big groups".
Those big planters can hold there quedan until a favorable price is available while those small planters since wala sila ya sang capital na ipahanonot they would sell it maski barato pa presyo.
As for your statements na Coke adds life diri sa Negros, I beg to disagree, if they continue to buy this premix, this would eventually kill the sugar industry. And would somehow affect the economy of the entire Negros.

I know how you feel migs. That is why if you could still recall, I was the first one who posted this Coke Boycott Campaign in Facebook here sa thread.
Tsakto gid na migs... if ang gina kultibar mo is mga 1 or 2 hectares lang then you better think twice na of continuing to plant your land with sugarcane. May profit pa gid man pero gamay na katama. If sa ordinaryo nga tawo daw nd na gid makabuhi sa ila.
Ako gapati man na Boycott campaign is not the ultimate solution pero but rather a way to let the voices of this small planters be heard by our government. So if Coke is not buying there sugar sa Negros why are we going to buy there product.

Buklodct July 5th, 2011, 09:34 AM ka damu sg naga depend sa sugar industry, never mind the planters, just imagine ang mga mangunguma ta, mga karga tapas, mga manug hilamon, mga manug abono, mga manug arado sa kampo, mga driver kg pahinante sg cane delivery trucks, ultimo kargador sa pier nga naga hakot sg abono, kita tanan nga naga depend sa sugar industry maapektuhan, biskan indi pa kita directly ga trabaho sa mga kampo kg sa mga uma, maapektuhan ghapon kita one way or another. this call for boycott i believe is just temporary, only to call the attention of coke and our government officials. kung indi cla mg buy sg sugar dri sa atun, fine, indi mn ini ya pilitay, ang foul lng galing sg coke kay ga pasulod cla di sa atun sugar in different form just to get away with tariffs. as a result ga baha ang supply, reason para manaug sg husto ang millgate prices, but look, wala mn japon ga benefit ang consumers, amo mn lng japon ang price sg kalamay mg bakal ka sa tiangge. in a way that is also a betrayal not only to us sugar farmers but to all the filipino people as well.
i know boycott is not the solution, but i hope matawagan sg attention ang coke kag ang aton mga government officials with this move. i hope this can be solved the soonest.
note: the current millgate price of sugar is p1200. a dramatic drop from 2500 last december. pro look at the price sa supermarkets daw wla mn ghapon ga change. traders lang ga ginansya and not the planters and farmers contrary to popular beliefs.
ako isa ka sugar farmer kag ang akon bug-os nga pamilya. amu na ang rason ngaa naga batyag gid kami sang tuman.
GOD BLESS US ALL and maayong hapon sa tanan.
hey, diri sa SSC ga promote kita para maka sulod ang bigtime investors. daw indi gid nami kun diri ka kamo ya manawagan na i boycott. what if i repeat, WHAT IF mag close bi ang coke kun sa patunto tunto lang. te? ano i bulig sang mga into na planters sa siudad ta? and i'm sure indi na na ka lab ot sa mga sacadas ang gina fight subong sang mga FLANTERS!!! amo man na gihapon ang kita on nila kun mag daog sila sa ila na kausa. just my 2cents amigo!
kusinero July 5th, 2011, 09:48 AM I know how you feel migs.
Dapat sila ang sukton ta, kay te ang coke negosyante man na sila, we could not count on them to change their ways if may loop hole ang laws and regulations naton. Syempre they always have to look at their bottom line just like everybody else.
For me ang boycott is good for political posturing in the short term, pero ultimately laws have to be set para malikawan ang amo sini nga situation. We also do not want to lose coke kay damo man sang naga benefit sa ila, not just their employees, but the retailers and the city in the form of taxes.
Xeltran July 5th, 2011, 10:15 AM daw indi ko ya mga migo pabor sang panawagan to boycott Coke. ka daku sang gina bulig sang coke sa ciudad ta thru taxes. ang mga planter ya ano na bulig nila? pasikat man lang opisyo nila, wala na guro inugbakal Montero or Land Cruiser.:bash: i boycott ang coke para sa kaayuhan nila, indi kay para sa ciudad. Coke adds life diri sa NEGROS!!!!
Indi man mag-amo na mig. Actually, pagbasa ko sang explanation sang ila pag boycott, may valid points man sila. I'm not sure though if boycotting is the best option for them. Ang mga leftist activities are usually related to Maoist ideology aka NPA, which of course, is linked to communism, which also, of course, is not successful.
Kun tuod man gid nga wala gabayad tax ang Coke by importing premixed sugar, then it's "stealing" not just from Negros but also from the country as well, because gina deprive ta sang tax which could be used to improve social services.
Indi na maubra justification nga Coke provides employment kag kun magsira sila, damo mawad an employment. Afterall, ang ga benefit sang employment from Coke are those from the middle classes naman di ba? Paano naman ang ara sa dalom sang socio economic ladder (mangunguma) nga ahaw na lang gid na guro ang ila income halin sa kalamay. There will always be something good and bad in a decision. Amo na gani nga wala sang isa ka perfect society. Lantawon lang dapat ang compromise nga pwede maubra by weighing in all the options.
My suggestion is to have a formal dialogue with all parties involved. I'm sure that boycott call will not have much effect. Sa Bacolod lang na ang center pero how about the rest of Negros Occidental. Most people are apathetic pa naman sa mga current issues. Mainom man na sila gyapon Coke products. Calling for a boycott is not conducive for business as well. Indi lang gid ko ya pabor sang mga activities that are communist in principle. :)

Tani eh.. pero the sad part is nd amo sina ang nagatabo. Though they would have this congressional inquiry pero the damage has been done sa mga small farmers. Tsakto na tood.. on the perspective ni Coke, business is business. If diin sila maka ginansya dako didto sila.
At the end of the day, its still those small planters ang pyerde. Waeh sang gasakay sa Land Cruiser kag Montero.
coconutbar July 5th, 2011, 10:26 AM hey, diri sa SSC ga promote kita para maka sulod ang bigtime investors. daw indi gid nami kun diri ka kamo ya manawagan na i boycott. what if i repeat, WHAT IF mag close bi ang coke kun sa patunto tunto lang. te? ano i bulig sang mga into na planters sa siudad ta? and i'm sure indi na na ka lab ot sa mga sacadas ang gina fight subong sang mga FLANTERS!!! amo man na gihapon ang kita on nila kun mag daog sila sa ila na kausa. just my 2cents amigo!
ahh ti cge migo ah, that is ur opinion and i respect that..
clarify ko lng migo wala ako di ya naga panawagan sg boycott ha, although i myself don't drink coke anymore for various reasons. ako bilang isa sa mga magagmay ta nga mangunguma naga pautwas lamang, since amu ina ang topic dri.
if you review my post i even said that boycott is not the solution. bt only to call the attention of coke and our government officials to do something to address the issue. i even said nga wala mn ini ya pilitay kng indi cla magbakal sg kalamay ta, the issue however is they bring in sugar in other form to get way with tariffs. and that results to oversupply reason for d significant drop of millgate price of sugar, kag amu ina ang gina agunto namun.
lastly, indi tanan nga planters pareho sg gina pamensar ta permi nga daw si mga tikalon kg pa into2x lng, there's just a select few nga amu sina ang pang gawi. majority sg atun di nga sugar farmers, magagmay lamang and most of them are CARP beneficiary pa, and to those who don't know, indi amu sina ka sulhay ang pangabuhi sini nga mga sugar farmers, contrary to popular belief. i know, because i myself am one of them.
peace and enlightenment to everyone and may GOD BLESS us ALL. :)

JuIcYdUdE22 July 5th, 2011, 10:40 AM The Whole point of Boycotting Coke Products have one reason and one reason alone, Fair Trade..
We never discouraged their stay here, or their business.. It is how they do about their business, thats whats hurting Negros, to think they have a plant in the Sugar Capital of the Philippines, that is way too much for an insult, added to that damage has been done..
It is more of teaching a lesson, "Don't do that or else".

If I am not mistaken, this is the largest one in Western Visayas. This certain plant supports the supply chain for Negros Island and so we don't have any connections with the bottling plant across the Guimaras Strait. The Coca-Cola operates by areas so there is no such thing as what we can really call a regional office. If we are to push for the equivalent of a regional office, the Bacolod Plant IS the de-facto "regional office" for Negros Island.

The Professional Regulations Commission regional office is in Bacolod City today and until July 8 to process applications and renewals from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the CoCo Grove, Bacolod Pavillon at the reclamation area.
The “PRC on the Road” is spearheaded by the office of Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez, a press release from his office said.

Senator pushes football exchange program with Spain
Tuesday, July 5, 2011
MANILA -- The Philippines and Spain may have a football exchange program soon, Senator Edgardo Angara said Tuesday.
Angara said he brought up a possible cross-border training program when he met with Spanish officials during the 9th Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day last June 30.
"Spain has one of the best football teams in the world. It would be an incomparable opportunity for the Azkals and other aspiring Filipino football players to train with them," he said.
He said a delegation of football coaches from the Centro de Estudios, Desarollo e Investigación del Fútbol Andaluz (Cedifa) came to the
Philippines to promote football in Baler, Aurora and in Bago, Negros Occidental.
He said Francisco Lopez, head of the Cedifa, found Filipino football players were "fast learners (with) an innate talent for the sport."
Angara said a football exchange program could spot and train Filipino football talent early.
"They will also be given opportunity to train under world-class coaches, such as those from Real Madrid, and in world-class facilities, which will be constructed in several key locations in the country," Angara said. (Jonathan de Santos/Sunnex)

The cable car was primarily built as a mode of transport and trade to both barangays. It just became a tourist attraction when some mountaineers and trekkers noticed it along with their visitors....

PVO starts construction of P5-M livestock infra
The Provincial Veterinary Office in Negros Occidental has started the construction of the P5 million cattle and sheep houses in Brgy. Sta. Rosa, Murcia town, Dr. Renante Decena said yesterday.
Decena said the farm in Brgy. Sta. Rosa is known as the Negros First Ranch of the province where 100 cattle and 100 sheep will be placed after the completion of the buildings.
Farm manager Dr. Ma. Regina Arquiza said the cattle house is 35 percent complete. They have also started the perimeter fence of the area, land preparation, and pasteur development to ready the place for the ranch improvement, she said.
Meanwhile, Decena said the sheep in Sagay farm recently gave birth to 14 lambs. The expansion of the dairy farms and the continuous purchase of farm animals like cattle and sheep are in line with the project of Gov. Alfredo Marañon to sustain food security and livelihood project in the province.
He also said the training of pastor-paraveterinarians has helped them in conducting animal health extension services like deworming, vaccination, treatment, artificial insemination, and monitoring especially in the animal dispersal project.
The province also aims to produce products using fresh milk like manufacturing milk bars, fresh milk products, and milk supplements that will provided to communities where there are most number of malnourished school children, he added.*LTG

Yes, quality water is what is needed the most for their plants especially nga these are liquid beverages pa man nga daan. Mas gasto magbottle drinks sa areas with polluted water kay great deal of filtration and other processes pa ang himuon bag-o pwede mausar for consumption.

I am referring to ordinary tap water. Metro Manila and Metro Cebu has that same problem too. It just happens that Metro Bacolod's water source is luckily very close and in an elevated area so it does not catch as much impurities along the way.

this i agree migo...tap water in some areas of bacolod esp. in alangilan and granada is as good and safe to drink as ones we buy in bottles. let's drink to that.

Juvic favored in ICTSI Bacolod leg

MANILA, Philippines - Juvic Pagunsan hopes to sustain his form coming off a month-long break as he leads the chase for the top P200,000 purse in the ICTSI-Philippine Golf Tour which swings into the Visayas with the staging of the ICTSI Negros Occidental Classic on July 13-15 in Bacolod.
Winner of three of the first four legs of the circuit and runner-up to Thai Thanyakon Khrongpa in the ICTSI-Mt. Malarayat Classic of the ASEAN PGA Tour, Pagunsan looms as the heavy favorite in the upcoming tournament set at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club where he honed his talent and skills in his youth.
The Bacolod native has confirmed his participation in the 54-hole tournament, the sixth leg of a 17-stage tour organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. and sponsored by International Container Terminal Services, Inc.
It also serves as the kickoff tournament for the circuit’s southern swing that includes a stop in Iloilo (July 20-22), Davao (Aug. 10-12), Del Monte (Aug. 17-19) and Cebu (Sept. 1-3).
Out to foil Pagunsan’s bid are Artemio Murakami, Elmer Salvador, Marvin Dumandan, Tony Lascuna, Mars Pucay, Ferdie Aunzo, Jun Bernis, Rufino Bayron, Cassius Casas, Richard Sinfuego, Orlan Sumcad, Gerald Rosales and fellow Bacolod native Robert Pactolerin.
Mhark Fernando, Jhonnel Ababa, Jerson Balasabas, Antonio Asistio II, meanwhile, head the group of young turks in the tournament backed by MJ Carr Golf Management, Inc., Srixon, Callaway, Unilab, Titleist, Sharp, Custom Clubmakers, Mizuno, PinoyGolfer.com, Inquirer Golf, A Round of Golf, Studio 23, Balls, and Dynamic Sports.
Meanwhile, Pagunsan’s hot start in the season put him way ahead of the field in the Order of Merit race as he hit the million-peso mark with P1,097,104 in earnings.
Salvador, who finished behind Pagunsan in the rich ICTSI-Orchard Golf Championship, is in second with P428,744 or more than double behind the runaway leader.
Lascuna moved up to third with P388,144 after finishing third at Mt. Malarayat while Jay Bayron is in fourth with P248,494 followed by Sumcad (P246,000), Angelo Que (P235,500), Miguel Tabuena (P229,994), Dumandan (P192,232), Frankie Miñoza (P187,500) and Ababa (P187,296) in that order.
Bayron, who finished second to American Berry Henson in the recent ICTSI-Philippine Open, will not see action in Bacolod but will join the title hunt in the Iloilo leg of the circuit.

Scrapping of CICT irks senators, ICT groups (http://www.panaynewsphilippines.com/mainnews%209.htm)
BY PRINCE GOLEZ
Senate Reporter
MANILA – Malacañang recently called for the reorganization of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) into the Information and Communication Technology Office (ICTO).
Senate Committee on Science and Technology chair Sen. Edgardo J. Angara, however, maintained that the decision “could imperil the gains made by the information technology (IT) and business process outsourcing industry (BPO),” and could lessen the resources intended for the agency.
The senator said if CICT will be made into a department, it will provide the needs and concerns of the IT and BPO industries, and “could help sustain its growth to bolster the economy.”
ICTO will be managed by an undersecretary and is administered by the Science and Technology department pursuant to Executive Order No. 47 (EO 47) signed by President Benigno Aquino III on June 23.
Angara said the order diverted them away from forming CICT “as an interim measure while Congress has yet to establish a DICT.”
In an appeal to the President to “reconsider and recall the order,” Atty. Jocelle Batapa-Segue, chair of the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines, said EO 47 will interrupt CICT programs and projects, as well as “pending partnerships with the academe, local stakeholders, and industry associations,” that help harness the country’s ICT potential.
The decision to scrap the CICT, she added, “was not consultative and insensitive to the real sentiments of the ICT stakeholders especially in the local areas,” and will have adverse effects on the booming ICT community./PN

Discussion on north terminal after flyover operates -- VM
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO
Bacolod Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said they are waiting for the final date for the flyover to be operational before they discuss the operation of the North Terminal in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City with its operator, Crispin Chua.
Sayson said that according to the Department of Public Works and Highways, the flyover will be operational in August.
If there is a failure on the part of Crispin Chua to comply with all the conditions of their contract with the city, and after he has been given the last extension, they will have no choice but to cancel the contract, he said.
Sayson stressed that the city is not spending a single centavo for the construction of the North Terminal so if the contract is cancelled, the city will not lose anything, he said.
Any decision made to cancel the contract will be subject to a committee conference with the stakeholders, together with the mayor, since the final say will come from the chief executive, he added.
“Rest assured that once the flyover is finally turned over and operational, we will operate the North terminal,” Sayson said.
Chua said the North Terminal is about 75(%) finished and will be operational by the end of July.
Meanwhile, Sayson said Vallacar Transit has no contract with the city so it can operate a makeshift waiting area while it is still building its terminal across the North Terminal.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod had earlier asked the parties under City Ordinance 461 or an Ordinance Providing for the Establishment of the New Northbound Terminal which it had approved on March 26, 2009, to update them on the progress of its construction.*CGS

OPA: More visitors flocking to agri-tour sites in province
The Farmers Information and Technology Services Center of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist has recorded 22 agri-tours to different organic farms in the province, in the first quarter of this year.
The record is based on the scheduled tours that pass through the center as some tourists and visitors go straight to the farms, FITS manager Edna Garde said.
She said that 2010, they recorded 924 agri-tours and 1,875 direct booking to various organic farms and agri-tourism destinations in the province where sustainable agri-tourism is now eyed.
Garde said agri-tourism is good but sustainable agri-tourism is better because it involves the preservation of the environment, local employment, and the practices of organic farming.
There are home-made technologies, organic products, and inventions created and designed by the local farmers on display in the farms, she also said.
“Through these agri-tours, more visitors and investors will come to Negros Occidental bringing in more economic development and local employment to people,” Garde said.
The most visited agri-tourist destination is the organic farm of the Magsasaka Siyentista of Ramon Peñalosa in Victorias City and Manapla town. The farm has probiotics-based swine culture, probiotics-based poultry technology, and plant-water-harvest technology.
The Fresh Start Organics in Silay City also has vast plantation of high valued crops like lettuce, parsley, stevia plant, and tea tree. The farm also holds a learning center, managed and owned by Ramon Uy, Jr.
Other agri-tourist sites are Material Recovery Facility of the Provincial Environment Management Office, RU Foundry, ICAT Demo Farm and Urban Agriculture of OPA, and Humayan Ministry.*LTG

Negros offers to host another Azkals game
Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said the provincial government will lobby with the Philippine Football Federation for the hosting of another game of the Philippine men’s football team, the Azkals, at the Panaad Park and Sports Stadium.
He said four more floodlights from the Paglaum Sports Complex will be set up soon at the Panaad Stadium to improve the lightings and prepare the Stadium for hosting another international football event.
“We are very much willing to host an Azkals match and other international events at the Panaad. Besides, we have better facilities than Rizal Stadium to host an international football tournament,” Marañon said.
He added that the province is gearing up for a series of football tournaments starting next month up to December this year.
The governor said 21 football teams from San Carlos City in the north up to Hinobaan town in the south will be joining this competition.
Meanwhile, Marañon said Negros Occidental will have to wait until 2013 to host the annual Palarong Pambansa.
He said the Department of Education has already assigned next year’s hosting task to provinces in the Luzon area and Negros will bid again in 2013 when it’s the Visayas turn to host the competition.
“It will give us longer time to prepare and hopefully, by 2013, renovation of the Paglaum Sports Complex will be finished by then especially the oval and the football field,” the governor said.
Earlier, Marañon cited the existing sports facilities in Bacolod City and neighboring areas as conducive venues for national competitions.
The success of the Philippine National Games jointly organized by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee, he said, was proof that the province is the next destination for high-caliber tournaments.*NAB

Right...panaad stood out when it comes to football venues, it only needs some improvements like putting up chairs like one in Rizal MS and build another grand stand facing the existing one.

detours July 6th, 2011, 07:34 AM DOT to promote 'train experience' tour
By Mayen Jaymalin (The Philippine Star) Updated July 06, 2011 12:00 AM Comments (4) View comments
MANILA, Philippines - To give foreign and local tourists a different feel of the country’s travel destinations, the local tourism industry will soon promote a so-called “train experience” tour.
Robert Joseph, Tourism Educators and Movers (TEAM) Philippines chairman, said they would be coming out with a tourism package that includes travel using the newly rehabilitated Bicol Express.
“Having the Bicol Express as a complementary mode to visit sites in the south would be a new experience for travelers and tourists,” Joseph said.
He said the return of the Bicol Express is a welcome development for the country’s tourism industry since it gives foreign and domestic travelers an alternative means to reach destinations in the Bicol region.
Attractions like Donsol whale watching, non-stop trips going to the Camsur Watersports Complex and sites near Mayon Volcano in Albay will be given a new perspective as tourists will be riding on world-class sleeper coaches now being offered by the Philippine National Railways (PNR), Joseph explained.
He noted that top destinations in the US, Europe and other Asian countries have first-class train services to encourage local and foreign tourists to explore the wonders of their country.
“I think it’s about time that we rehabilitate and resume operations of the railway in the country,” Joseph said.
Despite delays and other minor hitches, the Bicol Express had a soft opening last week. The Bicol Express used to be a popular mode of transport to the south, but operations were halted for almost six years.
Joseph said the PNR is determined to revive the Manila-Naga City route.
“I believe that PNR’s master plan for the south is to rehabilitate the Legazpi route and build additional tracks connecting it to the province of Sorsogon,” he added.
Joseph said they would promote the train experience through the League of Tourism Students of the Philippines, SKAL International, Rotary Tourism Movement, non-IATA local agencies nationwide, Travel Cooperative of the Philippines, Fair Trade Alliance, Federation of Philippine Industries, 777 and 888 news forums, and the consular and diplomatic community.
SSC Forums wala ma mention ba...daw may thread man gani nga about Trains.
anyway,if it will be possible to revive those long time not working trains plus the railways that were already out of place or destroyed, can the PNR make it also possible for a train to operate even the Bacolod Silay Airport Bacolod City route?tani may mag initiate man sa sini nga project...Calling Golez and Benitez.

Linguine July 6th, 2011, 08:02 AM ‘Build more power plants’
DOE: WE NEED ADD’L POWER TO
AVERT CRITICAL POINT BY 2019
BACOLOD City — Negros Occidental and the whole of Visayas will reach its critical point of having a power shortage come 2019, an official of the Department of Energy (DOE) disclosed.
DOE Visayas Field Office Director Antonio Labios gave an update on the power situation in the region during the 2nd Quarter Regional Development Council (RDC) meet here recently.
There is a need to put up more power plants; otherwise, the supply and demand in 2019, the critical period for power supply in the region, may reach the same level if not negative, Labios told reporters during the meet.
“At least three years before 2019, we need to find an additional power plant since it will take three to four years to build new plants,” he added.
In this case, the Negros Island will not be the only one affected but the whole Visayas since the power grids are interconnected.
For power security, it would be better for the Negros Island to have its own power plant, Labios said.
“Let’s not wait for the critical point; we should be looking for new plants already,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, in a press conference during the RDC meet, Guimaras Gov. Felipe Hilan Nava revealed that TransAsia group has already started the groundwork for the 54-megawatt wind power plant — which is expected to generate power by 2013 — in the island province of Guimaras.

^^i agree with the good gov...between the 2 venues, panaad is more "TV-genic" than rizal memorial stadium.
I also agree migo champ, panaad is way better and I doubt if Rizal stadium is night capable....kon ma renovate pa gid ang Paglaum our city would be capable of holding football games simultaneously, as what often happens to eliminate the chances of game fixing..

That, dear reader, is the scientific name for batuan, the secret agent in the Negrense cook’s souring arsenal that makes his kansi or sinigang so fruity sour, it never fails to impress visitors. It is a sourness that is difficult to pin down, which makes it stand out even just on the national dining table simply because batuan is not used in most parts of the country. In other words, properly promoted, batuan may well be one of our tickets to international gastronomical fame. It seems like it is only in Negros Occidental in fact where there is a robust eating tradition for this fruit that is difficult to propagate. It is used in Panay and some parts of Mindanao, I understand, but not as widespread as hereabouts. What is more encouraging is, we have developed the technology to bottle it as puree; in some parts of the province, folks also bottle it as candied batuan bathed in thin sugar syrup. Batuan puree is made by ECJ Farms in Candelardia, San Enrique. As to batuan candy, I tried this in Cadiz city way, way back and have not tried it again, I wonder if someone still makes them?
Batuan is in season these days and with the rains falling without let up, it is the perfect time for some sweat-inducing sour soup that only batuan can deliver. Interestingly, some people in the farms, I just discovered, do not use batuan solely for soups. Somebody I know makes paksiw without vinegar by using batuan in its stead: she chops the batuan finely, mix it with water and boil the fish in this until all the liquid is nearly gone. The result is a refreshing version of the paksiw: sour, but not too acidic – and surprise! – it removes the fishy smell of fish, what we call langsa in the dialect, which is a perennial problem we have in cooking fish especially the ones we consider ordinary hereabouts. This vinegar-less paksiw should be food for people who cannot take too much vinegar.
There are other who use this fruit as an added flavor to the vinegared paksiw. Still others make soup by boiling it and straining out the peel and seeds. But most just leave these in the dish, it is still added fiber. Interestingly, some friends who have settled in Manila eat batuan raw; they just wash it and dip it in salt, the way they eat green mangoes.
Batuan is a cultural symbol for Negrenses. We may not have given it too much thought, but try bringing Batuan, or the bottled puree abroad and watch your kin’s eyes widen and moisten at the taste of sinigang prepared with batuan. For Negrenses living abroad, batuan is home brought to their soup bowls; each spoonful filled with memories from home, sweet home. Good friend B once became quite a toast among Negrense expats in the United States when he brought with him bottles of the puree and cooked sinigang for their welcome parties for him and his family. The best, he said, was using batuan for tuna belly sinigang topped with mustard greens. His family and friends in the US just could not get enough of the soup, he said. He came home with a new found respect for batuan.
Unknown to many, batuan is a cousin of the purple mangosteen which goes by the scientific monicker garcinia mangustana. They may seem like worlds apart but on closer look, the similarity becomes very apparent. It’s just that aside from the color, the seeds of mangosteen are easily separated; those of batuan are not.
Its affinity to mangosteen, which is now being hailed as yet another super fruit with super medicinal and health properties, should pique more interest in the batuan.
Who knows what vitamins aside from C, what enzymes, what minerals that tiny green fruit holds? Who knows what diseases and medical conditions it may perhaps prevent or mitigate?
Who knows, aside from being simply a cooking secret, batuan just might be also a gold mine of health benefits?

Azkals to play home vs Kuwait at Rizal Memorial Stadium
Tuesday, July 5, 2011
AFTER the huge victory of the Philippine National Football Men’s Team-Azkals over the Sri Lanka Brave Reds on Sunday, the nationals are set to face Kuwait in the 2nd round of the World Cup qualifying on July 23 and July 28 on a home and away game.
Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) chairman and Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Advisory Council member Monico Puentevella said Monday that nationals will be playing their home game on July 28 still at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. (:applause::applause::applause: Moneyko!)
The nationals will be playing their away game in Kuwait at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium on July 23rd.
The Philippine Azkals, which is currently at 159 in FIFA world ranking, will be going uphill against ranked 102 Kuwait.
Meanwhile, Philippine Football Federation media officer Rick Olivares said that the Azkals will leave for Bahrain sometime next week to undergo training for the Middle East conditions.
A win against Kuwait will give the nationals a next round ticket for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. (JSG)

Capitol bidding tomorrow
Wed., July 6, 2011
The bidding for the purchase and lease of the 7.7068 has. property of the Negros Occidental provincial government along Lacson Street in Bacolod City is set at the Provincial Administration Center in Bacolod 10 a.m. tomorrow.
Gov. Alfredo Maranon, Jr. yesterday said the bidding will be the last to be held and that the Provincial Bids and Awards Committee will decide what to do if there are not enough bidders again tomorrow.
The bidding for the property on June 24 failed because only Ayala Land submitted a bid, and under Comission on Audit rules, there must be at least three bidders, the governor said.
If Ayala Land is still the lone bidder on July 7, the provincial government under COA rules can then negotiate the sale of the property with it, the governor said on June 24.
Meanwhile, the bidding for the construction of a provincial government-funded building at the Paglaum Sports Complex along Lacson and Hernaez streets in Bacolod is expected to take place in August, he added.
Construction will then start in September, he added.
The first floor of the building will be leased to commercial establishments, the second floor to a call center and third floor will be used as a dormitory for rout of town students.
Plans for the building are now being prepared, he said.*CPG

JAKARA, Indonesia — PLDT-ABAP’s Ian Clark Bautista, a diminutive, soft-spoken 16-year-old from Himamaylan, Negros Occidental, is proving to be the revelation in the 21st President's Cup here.
After debuting on the international stage with flair a few days ago by beating an opponent from Myanmar who is four years older, 16-8, Bautista slew a dragon from Russia who no less is a European Cup champion.
Alexander Somoilov, six years older, heavier built and carrying a menacing demeanor, was reduced to a patsy as Bautista, who displayed speed, studied aggression and crisp delivery, beat the bewildered Russian, 13-5.
Riding on Bautista's giant-slaying feat, the inspired Filipino boxing crew, backed by ABAP chairman Manny V. Pangilinan and president Ricky P. Vargas, won four of their five assignments on Day 2 of the tournament which attracted 28 teams from various parts of the world. Overall, they have chalked up nine wins against three losses.
Nesthy Petecio, 19, outclassed Mongolia's Shinetsetseg Davaasuren, 32-4, while team captain Charly Suarez bucked a tentative start to eventually stamp his class on slick Kenji Fujita of Japan, 14-6.
The evening session started with the disappointing loss of Nico Magliquian to Vietnamese Nguyen Van Hai, 9-19 but was capped by a close win by Nathaniel Montealto at the expense of hometown boy Vinky Montolu, 11-8.
The Montealto-Montolu fight was on even terms the first two rounds at 4-4 then 7-7 until Montealto carried the final round on the judges' scorecards.
Bautista, Petecio and Montealto are assured of bronze medals, while Josie Gabuco, Analisa Cruz, and Suarez attempt to join them as they take on separate rivals in the quarterfinal round Wednesday.

True that.
I actually read this article before in Azkals.com and I agree with their reasons. We can't always have it our way. The Azkals are the Phil. National football team afterall, indi kay iya lang sang Western Visayas. Finances and logistics are valid reasons why Rizal was chosen to host the game.
With Panaad (or even Rizal) at par with other stadia used in FIFA, hmm, I can't quite agree with that.
Wala pa gid ta sang facilities sa bilog nga pungsod nga makahambal ta nga at par with that of Japan, Korea, or even Germany or Italy. Ours is such a poor country nga dapat man gid unahon ang mga basic social services before non-advancing stuff like sports. Of course, pride ta na as Pinoys kun magdaog ta sa sports, pero anhun mo ang mga medalya kun gutom man ang population. Sometimes we just have to think objectively. :)

dason si Monico: ...It’s time to bring the Azkals to Manila,” said Puentevella after the inspection also witnessed by the PFF’s Jojo Rodriguez.

He said holding the match in Manila, instead of Bacolod, which hosted the Azkals’ AFF Challenge Cup match against Mongolia, will also help the hosts save on logistics.
“This way, we don’t need to fly the Sri Lankans to Bacolod and then back to Manila. It will also be easier for our players coming in from Europe and the US Logistics wise, it’s better to stage it here in Manila,” said Palami.
pila kita sang PFF sang ginheld sa Bacolod ang Phil-Mongolia match? 11 million?

The more pressing issue is that we still don't have a stadium that matches the highest standards of FIFA. Only Panaad Stadium so far passes at least the above-minimum standards. In my opinion, the government should let the private sector initiate building a Word Class Football Stadium in the Philippines. Maybe give them incentives if they build one and give another incentive of they let the government use it, that kind of setting.

4threich July 6th, 2011, 07:39 PM There are many factors when looking into this but I am not thoroughly convinced since your presented facts can also have solutions whilst having it in Bacolod would still be profitable. I have been to Rizal Stadium many times, in fact once a month even since I watch some games there when there is chance. I was a representative at a meeting with Gibo's team for the Miting de Avance which was held at Rizal Stadium and that was the time I was able to check the venue at a closer look. Panaad just have a better facility than Rizal and security-wise, more secured. It is just a balance of expenses but as far as I know, there are more important matters to discuss here than just those things. Don't get me wrong, I respect your opinion too but its just that I have to look at both sides of the coin and see which is best.
On the other side of the coin, there are more people in Manila and every provincial airports service flights to Manila and so if its held in Manila, there are many more actual on-site audience. Kung sa kun lang, mas advantage sa akun personally kung diri sa Manila kay diri na ko gaistar. The more pressing issue is that we still don't have a stadium that matches the highest standards of FIFA. Only Panaad Stadium so far passes at least the above-minimum standards. Have you read the articles I attached? I think it's summarizes the issue at hand as well as giving us the personalities whom influenced the decision why it went the Rizal way.
Could you elaborate your other factors pls, I'm open to discussions.
Sponsorships?
Tri media coverage?
Manila based fans?
Im not here to convince anybody and its not my facts, It's a news report.
But if you want I can contact Mr.Araneta thru some folks for clarifications, Im pretty quite sure there is a reasonable excuse why they held the games in Manila.
Don't get me wrong too, just putting the issue on the right perspective and
it's not me that is speculating.

Read my edited post above. ^^^^ I actually read and re-read extra. This issue of some sorts are just touching the tip of the iceberg. The real problem is this, we still don't have a World Class stadium that can truly be called the home of our National Football Team. I guess there must be a public - private partnership of some sorts to finally realize our dream of a full-standard FIFA stadium in the Philippines. These issues would end if that finally comes into fruition. Spilled milk is spilled milk, nothing much can be done. :)

I believe it will come, but it has a long way to go.
Even basketball(PBA), which is a much popular sport and has long established corporate sponsorships, have put on hold building their own stadium because of financial uncertainties.
What more building an exclusive football stadium?
In order for the investor to recoup his expenses, games should be held there regulary, our future Professional league, some invitational Cups, as well as friendly's with other foreign clubs.
and it will definitely located in Mega Manila and the main reason would still be logistics wise not some shallow conspiracy theories.
And I'm thinking, with our grassroots program slowly taking place, and if those fil-foreigners will be gone. Would casual fans of the sport still go to the games?

That depends though if we can be successful in ingraining a football culture here in the country. I am sure enough that the popularity of basketball here started with some half-bloods playing for basketball teams. I guess, those half-bloods will always be there playing football. Anyway, have you heard of that proposal of SM to build a coliseum that will even be bigger than Araneta Coliseum? By that look and the purposes that football stadiums can have other than football games, I guess it can be possible. We don't need to build numerous FIFA standard football stadiums anyway, just one. :)

SM usually builds their projects for multi purpose functions, It will not be solely because of football primarily and it will have strings attached. and FIFA funds given to PFF has conditions too. Remember when someone popular offered his lot for the proposed Home of the Azkals?
But, If it will be initiated by the Private sector why not? Never rely on Gov't to do things. so long as it will benefit the sport.
Regarding the mestizos, time will come homegrown talent will dominate the squad, hope those screaming fans will not change.

Having two airports for one air traffic control tower to handle would be a big headache and a ticking time bomb for disaster. Daw nami duklon si Mayor Bing para madula sa damgo niya na pwede pa mabalik ang airport to operation, not unless diri niya gusto ibutang ang HQ sang Air Force sa Region VI instead sa BSA kay pwede guid na like the case of Rajah Buayan Air Base that was GenSan's Old Airport. Pero IMO, useless na para magpush sini. The better thing is develop it to a commercial and business center that will certainly benefit the poorer southern half of Bacolod.

Yes, I remembered that. Though it should be studied further, that's a good sign that the private sector is seeing the potential of this sport for us mostly diminutive Filipinos. I have the same hope with you. Sa akun lang ya, the more important thing is for Azkals to win their succeeding games to give as a shot in FIFA. I'll be happy if they will be able to join FIFA World Cup regardless if they win or not.
