Sum-ag is too far for a South Terminal. I agree it should be there in CEGASCO area or that area between Tangub and Pahanocoy (vacant lot in front of Grandville)

If the division is to take place before the elections, this would be my likely forecast:

Mayor: Sayson vs Puentevella
Bacolod North: Congressman - Novero vs Golez vs Puentevella vs Batapa-Sigue
Bacolod South: Congressman - Leonardia vs Orola
V-Mayor: Baribar vs Batapa-Sigue vs Distrito

Sum-ag is too far for a South Terminal. I agree it should be there in CEGASCO area or that area between Tangub and Pahanocoy (vacant lot in front of Grandville)

If the division is to take place before the elections, this would be my likely forecast:

Mayor: Sayson vs Puentevella
Bacolod North: Congressman - Novero vs Golez vs Puentevella vs Batapa-Sigue
Bacolod South: Congressman - Leonardia vs Orola
V-Mayor: Baribar vs Batapa-Sigue vs Distrito

Gov’t team studies higher tariff rate for ethanol imports

BACOLOD CITY -- A technical working group is studying the possibility of raising the tariff on imported ethanol, the Agriculture chief said during a visit here last Friday.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala told journalists that he believed there’s a need to reverse Executive Order 449, issued by the past administration in 2005, which reduced the tariff on bioethanol to 1% from 10%, even as the industry had been pushing for a 20% rate.

He said the study group will submit a report to President Benigno S. C. Aquino III, adding that the proposed new rate "should be something that favors the farmers and [one where] the government will not lose." -- NLG

1st flyover in Bacolod finished
By RAYMUND F. ANTONIO
August 8, 2011, 4:29pm

MANILA, Philippines — After months of waiting, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced Monday that the construction of the first flyover in Bacolod City has already been completed and opened to vehicular traffic.

The flyover is located at the junction of Lacson Avenue and Lacson Circumferential Road in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

In an accomplishment report released to media, DPWH said the first flyover project has been completed one month ahead of schedule.

DPWH-President’s Bridge Program Office began the P365.436-million project on March 5. It is funded with a loan from the French government, with materials supplied by French supplier Matiere S.A.S.

The flyover is made of five spans of modular steel and four piers and road approaches of about 145.20 meters wherein DPWH facilitated the acquisition of the road right of way.

DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said the construction of the flyover, the first of its kind in Negros Occidental, will play a significant role in the overall transportation system of Negros residents.

Singson said the flyover will decongest the urban center of Bacolod and links to most of the city’s production and commercial zones and mitigate traffic congestion especially during sugar milling season, where truckloads of sugarcane products frequently pass through this junction.

"It will also lessen the travel time by more than 30 minutes going to and from the Bacolod-Silay Airport as well as Banago Port, thereby improving business and tourism opportunity in the area," the DPWH said.

ALI’s dev’t plan will boost employment opportunities
By: Dolly Yasa

BACOLOD City – The labor sector in the province welcomes the proposed development plan of Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI) on the 7.7-hectare prime property of the provincial government as it will help ease the unemployment situation of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

Winnie Sancho, labor representative to the Regional Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Western Visayas, said they are expecting more than a thousand jobs to be created by ALI in the construction of the structures at the capitol property and during the operation of their businesses afterwards.

"This is a positive movement for the labor sector," Sancho pointed out.

The labor sector made the statement after ALI made a presentation of its development plan at the provincial capitol last week.

ALI will invest more than P6 billion at the capitol's property which they will transform into “Capitol Civic Center”. The plan involves the building of a convention center, hotels, condominiums, retail centers, capitol park and wildlife center, among others.

Sancho said that ALI's project will definitely result to economic development for Bacolod City and the province because once employment is generated the domestic spending will surely improve.

"We can also expect wage increase if there is economic progress that will also result to decent living of the people," Sancho added.

The business sector in the province placed the jobs to be generated by Ayala at about 1,200.

Aside from the labor sector, the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry also issued support to the provincial government in awarding the lease and purchase of the 7.7-hectare prime government property to ALI.

The presentation made by ALI last week was well-applauded by the more than 100 representatives from various sectors.

Capitol receives CA TRO on 7.7-hectare prime lot
By: Dolly Yasa

BACOLOD City – The Office of the Governor as well as the Sangguniang Panlalawigan yesterday confirmed receiving an official copy of the Temporary Restraining Order issued by the Court of Appeals sought by SM Prime Holdings Inc. after the provincial government awarded the lease and purchase of the 7.7-hectare Capitol property to Ayala Land Inc. (ALI).

SP Secretary Babette Quevenco said that the SP received the CA TRO Friday last week at about 11am.

It was about the same time that the copy was also received by the Office of the Governor, according to Enrique Pinongan, provincial administrator.

But he said there is nothing to restraint anymore as the documents were already forwarded to the COA national office for review after the SP approved the award.

Atty. Mary Ann Lamis , legal officer in-charge of the case, also confirmed the copy received by the provincial government which she said was sent through LBC.

“It is (now) under study,” Lamis said.

Lamis told reporters that she is preparing for the position of the provincial government to be submitted within ten days as stated in the TRO.

She said the 60-day period of the TRO takes effect upon their receipt of an official copy.

She said they are considering submitting a position for the lifting of the TRO.

Negrenses lament that the TRO will surely delay the development of the property. If SM gets an injunction, the case may run all the way to the Supreme Court which, Negrenses fear, might altogether scuttle the project and deprive Negros Occidental of the forecast benefits.

The greater public good (http://www.panaynewsphilippines.com/column1.htm)

MORE than at any other time, it is now that Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. of Negros Occidental deserves the all-out support of Negrenses – and Bacoleños too. Not only is it well within his mandate and authority to choose the better offer between Ayala Land and SM, it is also quite obvious that Ayala’s offer is many times better than SM’s.
Now, the governor is facing a lawsuit that, if he loses it, will result to a much greater loss to the people of Negros Occidental.

And all because he decided the matter on the basis of the greater public good and according to his best lights.

***
SM should have bowed to the decision of the governor in Ayala’s favor. After all, this is what a bidding is all about – for the government to choose the better offer. To compel Marañon to choose SM even if, by general opinion, Ayala’s offer is better would in fact open Marañon to charges of under-the-table deals. For why else would he choose the lesser offer if not for an under-the-table deal?

And because of SM’s lawsuit which could drag for ages, the tremendous benefits to be derived from the project would be put on hold, if not forever.

For why would Ayala lose money on lawsuit costs as well as cost of money when it could invest in other cities and/or provinces where these would be less of a hassle, if any?

SM can afford to do battle in the courts, way up to the highest. After all, its mall at the reclamation area is drawing the buying public like a magnet, in the process emasculating the competition like Lopues and Gaisano to a slow death.

In this legal battle, we, the people, can only emerge as losers. SM’s principal business is rent. Its malls have only a fraction of the entire space for its stores. The much larger part of its malls is rented.

It has practically two million square meters of land nationwide. At P480 per square meter, you can just imagine the billions SM earns from its malls.

So, what does it matter to SM if the seven-hectare land it covets will sleep for decades without number? The better it remains idle there than for a competition to make use of it.
What SM cannot have, it would rather freeze to eternity.

3 More Groups Support Capitol-Ayala Contract
Bacolod City News Danny Dangcalan Negros Business Negros Occidental Philippines
By Danny B. Dangcalan

Three more organizations have come forward to publicly express their support to the decision of the Negros Occidental provincial government in awarding the sale and lease of its more than 7.7 hectares of prime property in Bacolod to Ayala Land Inc.

These are the Negros Panay Alliance of Labor (NPAL), Provincial Agricultural and Fishery Council (PAFC), and the Progressive Alliance of Capitol Employees (PACE).

Earlier, four business groups, namely, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Western Visayas, Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Southern Negros Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Northern Negros Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry have issued their statement of support to the provincial government’s sale of the prime property and its development into a Capitol Civic Center worth P6 billion.

NPAL convenor Winnie Sancho, who is also the labor representative to the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, said the labor sector in the province welcomes the development of Ayala Land of the Capitol property as it will help ease the unemployment situation here.

Sancho said they are expecting more than a thousand jobs to be created by this Ayala project such as in the construction of the structures and during the operations of their businesses afterwards.

"This is a positive movement for the labor sector," Sancho said.

Ayala Land Vice President Joel Luna, in his project presentation at the Provincial Capitol last week, said the Capitol Civic Center "will be an integrated mixed-use civic and commercial district that will combine the center of government with commercial and residential uses, making it the growth center of Metro Bacolod and Negros Occidental."

"The project will have a lifestyle center, encompassing retail, office and hotel, a multi-use convention and events venue, and a residential commercial zone," he said.

"It will put Bacolod City and Negros Occidental towards a higher development. It will be a gathering place of the community and an integral part of the daily culture of the Negrenses," he said.

In its resolution signed by its chairman Jocelyn Palacpac, PAFC said it supports the decision of the provincial government headed by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. to proceed with the contract with Ayala Land for the said development.

The proceeds of the sale and lease would mean more assistance to all sectors in the province, including the farmers and fisherfolk, the group said.

The PACE, in its resolution signed by its chairman Leo Galvez, said it supports this project which is expected to benefit the Negrenses and it is a move towards economic development.

Sancho added that this project will definitely result to economic development for Bacolod City and the province because once employment is generated the domestic spending will surely improve.

"We can also expect wage increase if there is economic progress that will also result to decent living of the people", Sancho added.

The business sector in the province placed the jobs to be generated by Ayala at about 1,200.

The presentation made by Luna earned a wide applause from a multi-sectoral group that attended it.

TRO

Meanwhile, Assistant Provincial Legal Officer Mary Ann Manayon-Lamis yesterday said they have only received the Notice of Resolution for the temporary restraining order (TRO) on August 3, and the TRO copy itself on August 5.

The Court of Appeals 20th Division in Cebu City has granted the petition of SM Prime Holdings, the other bidder for the said property, seeking to prevent the provincial government from consummating the transaction with Ayala Land.

The TRO was promulgated July 20.

Lamis, who is also a member of the Committee on Awards and Disposal, said as per instruction of the CA, the provincial government should be able to submit their comment within the 10-day period from date of receipt.

"If we based it from August 3, we have until August 13 to submit our comment, but since August 13 is a Saturday, our deadline will be the next working day and that would be Monday, August 15," she said.

So we have until Monday to file whatever pleading or comment we will file in reply to the petition of SM, she said.

She added she cannot comment on the Deed of Sale they submitted to the Commission on Audit, because COA is not party to the case, and the case is "sub judice (under judgment)."

The 60-day TRO will start from August 5 to October 5 unless and until it is lifted sooner, she added.

Marañon said majority of the Negrenses support the decision of the provincial government for the Ayala deal.

"If we will hold a referendum now, I’m sure 90 percent of the people of Bacolod and Negros Occidental will vote for Ayala," the governor said.

"The bidding was transparent. Your provincial government made the right decision in awarding the property to Ayala, it is the rightful winner.

Nobody can question the track record of Ayala," Marañon added.*

Koko promises to help sugar industry, Negros
BY CARA GOMEZ

Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, who is expected to be proclaimed a Senator Thursday, yesterday said he is committed to helping Negros Occidental and its sugar industry.

The Senate Electoral Tribunal on Thursday is expected to proclaim Pimentel the rightful 2007 winner of the 12th slot in the Senate, following the resignation of Juan Miguel Zubiri last week.

Pimentel told the DAILY STAR in a telephone interview he will take his oath as senator in Mati City, the capital of Davao Oriental, on Friday if he is proclaimed the winner by the SET on Thursday.

He chose Mati, Davao Oriental, because he garnered the second highest number of votes among the senatorial candidates in 2007 there despite his not having campaigned in that place, Pimentel said.

Pimentel is married to Bacoleña beauty queen Jewel Mae Lobaton, who was Miss MassKara 1993.

Jewel Mae, a BS Biology graduate of the University of St. La Salle, was the Miss Philippines-Universe 1998 first runner-up who was officially selected as the Philippine representative to the Miss Universe pageant held in Honolulu, Hawaii.

“I married a Negrense, I am committed to helping Negros,” Pimentel said.

He said he will help both the planters and workers in the sugar industry, and the other industries and concerns of Negros Occidental.

On his last visit to Bacolod he saw streamers on the opposition to the importation of premix sugar, Pimentel said. “I need to be briefed on the issues confronting the sugar industry so I can help,” he said.

Pimentel said he was robbed of his four years as a senator of the Philippines “but we cannot bring back time, the law will credit the first four years to me, and I have 24 months left to work as a senator.”

“I am still glad this moment came…It is a gift from God,” he said.

Pimentel said his priorities in the Senate will be electoral reform, the Local Government Code, and concerns of the youth, Overseas Filipino Workers, and of the people of Visayas and Mindanao.

His wife, Jewel Mae, also said she is sure her husband will be committed to the concerns of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

Negrense officials and sugar leaders had earlier said a champion for Negros Occidental and the sugar industry in the Senate had been lost with the resignation of Zubiri.*CPG

Comprehensive Bacolod Development on TAP
Bacolod City News Edgar Cadagat Negros Business Negros Occidental Philippines
By Edgar Cadagat

A top-ranking Bacolod City official outlined what he said were comprehensive projects, mainly infrastructure, which are to be carried out by the city government before Mayor Evelio Leonardia leaves office in 2013, after his nine-year, three terms in office ends.

Among the projects enumerated by Bacolod Vice-Mayor Thaddy Sayson, were establishments of more call centers, traffic improvement measures such as building of more bus and jeepney terminals, alternative traffic routes which are intended to ease traffic, to include construction of another flyover, more medical facilities to augment already established birthing clinics, flood control measures, operationalization of the relocation center for the city’s urban poor population who may be ejected from their present areas and other measures related to solution of perennial traffic woes.

Sayson who was the guest speaker during the regular gathering of foreign residents or expatriates now living in Bacolod City or the province further said that, the city government could most probably establish bicycle lanes first in the highway going to Murcia or the Murcia Road, rather than in earlier planned areas.

He also said that they will adjust their approach in their campaign against barkers as this pose a continuing problem with drivers still complaining about them.

The second-highest ranking Bacolod City official also discussed the power and electricity problem which he said with possible increases in electricity rates which could make a dent in the subsistence income of many Bacolod residents.

Because it was raining heavily, the number of expatriates attending the activity in Nature’s Village Hotel and Restaurant somewhat was lesser.

NDB writer, Bob Harland said the expatriates composed of several nationalities and who have made Bacolod and the province their home, are composed of Americans, British, Europeans and other nationalities. Among the member of the loose grouping is Fil-Am Theodore "Ted" Vail, a cousin of this writer.

The group usually gets together weekends and invites a speaker, in an effort to be integrated with Filipinos and their community.

On what he said were positive economic, traffic and other developments in the city, Sayson said call centers now employ about 10,000 people each earning from P12,000 to P15,000 monthly or a total of P150-M monthly infused into the local economy. This means P1.8-B yearly, added the Bacolod City vice-mayor. There are 11 call centers now in the city.

The call center have become a hedge to the seasonal sugar industry which effectively employs tens of thousands of Negrenses but only for half of the year at most, Sayson added.

The call centers, he said, could be considered the voice Information Technology of the Industry while in the near future; those working in call centers such as these could use computers or non-voice call centers which would be convenient especially for those who find it difficult to duplicate the American English twang.

But to remedy this difficulty for Filipinos, they increasingly bring to solve this through training of call center agents in a facility in the Paglaum Sports Complex, Sayson added.

Clearly, he said, Bacolod had now become the center of the call industry in the Western Visayas region.

Bacolod City has also become the choice destination of tourists with over 300,000 visiting the city and province for two successive years running.

The biggest number of foreigners who came here were Koreans who numbered 67,091 last year, said Sayson.

On medical facilities, the city government has established a modern, birthing clinic in the compound of the City Health Office and is a 30-bed facility. It is a surprisingly clean and an ideal clinic to give birth in.

On the other hand, the city government eye center is being established in the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH).

In answer to questions from the expatriates about the state of traffic in Bacolod and the noise pollution they have to contend with, Sayson said, among the measures adopted are the construction of the flyover near the Bata Village highway, a P386-M project funded by the French government and dispended through the national government which will be inaugurated at the end of the month. The Bacolod Lone District under Congressman Dr. Anthony Golez has been instrumental in this. Sayson said there could be another flyover which was originally planned to be built in the Magsaysay-Araneta area, but could be now built in the Lopues’s East area after a study showed it could be better serve the purpose there. The traffic in the area is now problematic with bottlenecks occurring.

Another project which could ease traffic is the relocation of the two major bus terminals in the northern and southern portion of the city which could result in thousands of out-of-town buses and vehicles unloading passengers here instead of proceeding to the major terminals in the Shopping Center, Ng Sambok Libertad areas. The passenger vehicles will unload passengers in the terminal now.

Another measure meant to ease congestion in the areas heavily-crowded are the building of alternative routes passing at the back of Robinsons mall and Lopue’s East.

Yet, possibly at the top of economic developments will be the construction of a port, a causeway and the expansion of the regional hospital or CLMMRH through a P400-M funding secured by Bacolod Lone District Congressman Dr. Anthony Golez. The expansion of the Banago Port after it was endorsed to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) by the DENR through a MOA, when the lease of Negros Navigation (NN) expired, could be among the triggers for more essential development soon.

This is because funding for the port development which would be owned and operated by the local government for the first time could be in billions of pesos, Golez has said in a recent interview.*

"If we will hold a referendum now, I’m sure 90 percent of the people of Bacolod and Negros Occidental will vote for Ayala," the governor said.

I agree 100%. Rather than use his influence for stopping every developments to happen in Bacolod, he should rather focus his efforts in that very airport that needs expansion. 'Dragon Warriors' continue to breathe fire
By ELENA L. ABEN
August 6, 2011, 7:39pm
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Dragon Boat Team continued to breathe fire in the 10th International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) World Dragon Boat Championships in Tampa Bay, Florida.

The Pinoy “Dragon Warriors” captured two more gold medals on the second day of the competition where they are the defending champions.

The team now has collected three golds and one silver, a feat made more remarkable by the fact that it has no funding or official recognition from the government.

The team is ranged against well-funded teams from 17 countries, including US and China.

Maj. Harold Cabunoc, the Philippine Army Public Affairs Office (PAO) deputy chief, is the team’s manager, while Sgt. Usman Anterola is the designated team captain.

Eleven servicemen make up this year’s Philippine Dragon Boat contingent. Seven come from the Army, three from the Air Force and one from the Navy.

The team relies on corporate sponsors for funding. “They love the game and they want to defend their title to show that the Filipinos are among the best athletes in the world,” Cabunoc said.

Saturday, the team was never challenged as they led the pack in the 200-m “premier open mixed event” (small boat category) from start to finish, Cabunoc reported.

“The Pinoy paddlers reached the finish line three times in a row (3 heats) clocking 55 seconds, 56 seconds and 57 seconds respectively. Trinidad and Tobago came in second and Italy, third,” said Cabunoc.

The team also took the gold in the 200-meter men’s event.

The Filipinos won the 1,000-meter premier open men's events on Friday.

The team has set two world records, during the world championships in Sydney, Australia in 2007 and in Prague, Czech Republic in 2009. It claimed another world record when it won its first gold in the 10th IDBF World Dragon Boat championships.

The team members had come into dragon boat racing from other sports disciplines, mainly volleyball and swimming. But according to Cabunoc, most of them were fishermen from Bacolod City.

Sgt. Rodrigo M. Tanauan, Jr, one of the Army’s strongest paddlers, has been training individually in athletics for years before he joined the Army Dragon Boat Team.

The Army Dragon Boat team has won local and international competitions such as the American Tourister International Dragon Boat Festival for two consecutive years, the 1st Cam Sur Dragon Boat Festival, the Ocean Park Dragon Boat Regatta, the Manila Bay Seasports Festival, and the 2nd leg of the Cobra Drink Dragon Boat Regatta.

“Our team has done exceptionally well. We never expected this success to come so soon. When we started this team, it was just a bunch of Army soldiers who came from other fields of sports and who wanted to try something different,” said Anterola, the team captain.

The best option for Monico is tor run for Mayor...once Bacolod will be divided intwo districts, it would be a much tougher game for Monico.

CONFED Welcomes Koko’s Sugar Help

The Confederation of Sugar Producers’ Associations (CONFED) welcomes the pronouncement of Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III that he is committed to helping Negros Occidental and its sugar industry.

"The sugar industry needs all the help and the support we can get," CONFED Negros-Panay Chapter chairman Raymond Montinola yesterday said.

Pimentel, whose wife, Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 1998 Jewel Mae Lobaton is a Negrense, is set to be proclaimed tomorrow by the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) as the 12th winning senator in the 2007 elections.

Pimentel’s eventual proclamation was preceded by the resignation last week of Juan Miguel Zubiri.

"I married a Negrense, I am committed to helping Negros," Pimentel had said.

Montinola said CONFED is very willing to dialog with Pimentel and update him on the situation of the sugar industry.

They will also ask him to find solution to the many problems affecting the sugar industry such as smuggling and the large importation of premix sugar and high fructose corn syrup by industrial users, which results to the low demand for locally produced sugar, Montinola said.

They will also ask him to strengthen the laws that are meant to benefit the sugar industry such as the Bio-fuels Law of 2006 and the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, through its proper implementation, he said.

Zubiri had earlier lamented the government’s slow implementation of these two laws that he authored, saying it could boost the survival of the country’s sugar industry in 2015 when the tariff on imported sugar is lifted.

He said government’s support is needed to ensure the survival of the bio-fuels industry in the country, which uses sugarcane as a raw material.

Zubiri, whose father is from Kabankalan, is a CONFED member and is considered a champion of the sugar industry.

Capitol to Answer TRO this Week

Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr. yesterday said they have received the official copy of the temporary restraining order (TRO) from the Court of Appeals last Friday and the Provincial Legal Office will answer it this week.

"Our lawyers will study the TRO. Definitely, before Friday we will answer (it)," he said.

Assistant Provincial Legal Officer Mary Ann Manayon-Lamis said although the TRO was promulgated on July 20 yet, they have only received the Notice of Resolution for the temporary restraining order (TRO) on August 3, and the TRO copy itself on August 5.

The Court of Appeals 20th Division in Cebu City has granted the petition of SM Prime Holdings, the other bidder for the said property, seeking to prevent the provincial government from consummating the transaction with Ayala Land.

The 60-day TRO will start from August 5 until October 5 unless and until it is lifted sooner, she added.

Faster BREDCO Takeover Seen
Bacolod City News Danny Dangcalan Negros Business Negros Occidental Philippines
By Danny B. Dangcalan

Mayor Evelio Leonardia believes that the city government will hasten its takeover of the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (BREDCO) port operations with the awarding of the land titles where it is located.

The Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) has granted the Bacolod city government 29 lot titles comprising 19.1 hectares of land in the reclamation area, including the property occupied by the BRDECO port covering 4.2 hectares.

In its Deed of Conveyance, the PRA declared that the transfer of the titles to the city government is under the tripartite agreement among the PRA, City Government, and BREDCO signed in May 2000.

"These titles are now being transferred to the City of Bacolod. What is significant here, aside from the titles themselves, is that these include the port area, where the actual port is—4.2 hectares and 25 meters in depth," Leonardia said yesterday.

The mayor added the decision of the PRA to award these particular land titles to the city government could have a favorable effect to its efforts to take over the operations of the BREDCO port.

"We believe this has an impact on the case of the City involving the takeover ordinance. This will strengthen the position of the city because the title (to the port) now belongs to the city," he said.

City Legal Officer Joselito Bayatan, for his part, said that of the 19.1 hectares that will be transferred to the City, 15 hectares will include roads going to the port.

"Aside from getting about 15 hectares composed of roads, four hectares of that will be the total area of the port. Actually, it really belongs to the city," he said.

Leonardia said he will forward the Deed of Conveyance to the Sangguniang Panlungsod for approval.

"We’d like to appeal to Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson and the committees concerned to expedite this. We have waited for this for so long, we don’t want to delay this any further," the mayor said.*

^^eco-tourism center of bacolod complete with all the amenities of wellness and health. damo na farms sa area nga naga practice organic farming...buro-buro owned by torre-henares is one good example. melba's farm if i'm not mistaken is also in the area. with this, bacolod will no longer be just a transit point but a destination as well.

Faster BREDCO Takeover Seen
Bacolod City News Danny Dangcalan Negros Business Negros Occidental Philippines
By Danny B. Dangcalan

The Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) has granted the Bacolod city government 29 lot titles comprising 19.1 hectares of land in the reclamation area, including the property occupied by the BRDECO port covering 4.2 hectares.

"Aside from getting about 15 hectares composed of roads, four hectares of that will be the total area of the port. Actually, it really belongs to the city," he said.

^^mayor bing, unaha anay please lang ang airport before you plunge into the deep waters of bredco. the airport has laid idle for quite sometime already. :ohno:

maayong aga bacolod kag negros occidental:)

^^ Bag-o ko lang nadiparahan a. ^^

I agree though that it should be developed ASAP samtang gainit kag gabukal pa ang race for real estate grabs in the city. :)

IN BACOLOD CITY
SM eyes other areas, too

ShoeMart is looking for other areas for its expansion in Bacolod City, aside from the 7.7-hectare property of the Negros Occidental provincial government, Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Frank Carbon said yesterday.

Carbon said ShoeMart, aside from planning to expand in the area where it is located, and possibly offering to buy city government owned adjacent property, is also looking at other areas in Bacolod.

He said, a ShoeMart official informed him that they may even bid for the lease of the Paglaum Sports Complex property in Bacolod City.

Governor Alfredo Marañon had earlier said the provincial government will put part of the sports complex property up for lease and that Robinsons Land Corp has expressed interest in it, too.

Meanwhile, the governor said the provincial government will submit its answer to the Court of Appeals before Friday on the Temporary Restraining Order it issued in connection with the Capitol’s approved sale and lease of its 7.7-hectare property to AyalaLand.

The TRO had been sought by SM Prime Holdings Inc.*CPG
