^^better known as the owner of costa aguada...ila gali na da? i thought iya gid ka FF...kag i thought ang sa tubang amo na da ang sang mga cojuangco.

Lain man ya ang yan ka Cojuangco, lain man ya ang kay Tony Oppen. It just happend nga utod niya lang si Gretchen Cojuangco. Tony Oppen is a stockholder of First Farmers so dira ila office sang una. :) Tony Oppen supported Gibo so dira man ang Volunteer Center. :D

The closest we can have is Sen. Zubiri pero galing Bukidnon na siya ya gaistar subong pero nevertheless loves his Negrénse-Kabankalanon heritage. Sadly, hindi sa siya Senator pero he'll be back kag no.1 guid na siya in the next election undisputed. :okay:

Had a sudden jolt of thought... basi indi naka-kimono kundi naka-hanbok (Korean National Dress) since mas damo Koreans in Bacólod subong kaysa sa Japanese as far as I know. Anyway, whichever, basta foreign tourists nga makadugang kwarta sa Bacólod. :D

Bacolod gets good housekeeping award

BACOLOD CITY -- Bacolod has been awarded the Seal of Good Housekeeping and chosen, together with two other cities in Western Visayas, to compete for the National Gawad Pamana ng Lahi Award (Gawad).

DILG-Bacolod director Dino Ponsaran said Gawad recognizes local government units with exemplary performance in governance in the areas of administrative governance, social services, economic development and environmental management.

"This is its first year. The LGUs were chosen based on the initial assessment that we conducted," Mr. Ponsaran said. Aside from Bacolod, the cities of Iloilo and San Carlos will represent Western Visayas.

The Seal of Good Housekeeping, meanwhile, is given to local government units with exemplary performance in terms of fiscal management, accountability and transparency.

"Based on the score sheet of the DILG, Bacolod got a perfect score as far as transparency is concerned," said Bacolod Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia.

Meanwhile, Bacolod was also a finalist for the Most Business-Friendly City Award by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It received the award in 2006 and 2007.

"I would like to state that we have consistency in so far as the business climate in Bacolod is concerned. No wonder buildings are sprouting up left and right," Mr. Leonardia said.

He said the squabble between SM and Ayala is flattering for Bacolod.

"If these titans in business are fighting over the opportunity to do business in Bacolod, it shows that there is a goldmine in the city," he added. -- Chrysee G. Samillano

Some people say 5 stories na siya. Basi siguro sa demand pero ang nakita ko pa lang na press release so far is that dungangan siya one storey so that means four stories na. For sure nga there would be four stories na guid pero tani tuod ang HH na five. :D

Hotel rooms have increased from 1,612 rooms in 2004 to 3,678 hotel rooms this year.

“Robinsons Land is also building a hotel and is even adding an additional floor from its original plan. This tells us therefore that the tourism industry is growing and continues to grow,” Leonardia said.

^^well there's one forumer nga may stocks sa ROB, confirmed that it will be 3 storeys but the latest article says that it will add floors to the original plan. so it might be 5 storeys but just to be safe as what @RN mentioned 4 floors na lang para neutral.:)

Hambal sang news an additional floor (w/o "s") man lang so I suppose 1F na dugang pero wala man nahambal sa news kung pila ka floors except nga nakahambal si DG nga 3 floors ini siya. Maayo kung may makapamangkot sa Robinson's Land about sini. :)

The news says September 26, the confirmation i got was last week, and said that its gonna be 3-floors. Siguro same floor sila dapat sang Duma (2 floors) but added 1 floor for Bacolod so naging 3 na sya. :-)

By the way, just woke up from a very shattering (was-ag) state. 6am na ako nakapuli kay super party sa Lacson. This is the first time i did in many years na maabtan sanag sang adlaw para makapuli.lol

Okay man lang a kay daw O-Hotel or Planta Hotel man siya kataas pero mas lapad and since it will cater mostly sa ma-overnight for early morning flights. Mas damo pa man da juicy hotel developments nga maabot for 2012. ;)

Masskara Festival 2011 dinayo ng mga turista

BACOLOD CITY - Dinayo ng libu-libong turista ang isa sa mga highlights ng Masskara Festival 2011 na street and arena dance competition schools category.

Ito ay sa kabila ng pag-urong ng maraming turista sa pagdalo sa kasiyahan dahil na rin sa problema sa mga flight ng Philippine Airlines (PAL) at sa sobrang mahal ng pamasahe papunta sa Bacolod City.

Fully-booked ang lahat ng hotel at pension house sa lungsod dahil sa dami ng mga dayuhan, gayundin ng mga nagbabalikbayang mga Bacoleños.

Ganap na alas-3:00 ng hapon nagsimula ang competition, kung saan nakilahok ang pitong elementary school at apat ng mga high school.

Sa pagpapatuloy ng okasyon ngayong Linggo, masasaksihan naman ang barangay category na lalahukan ng 10 barangay sa Bacolod.

Inaabangan naman ang Handog Pasasalamat ng Bombo Radyo at Star Fm Concert sa Masskara Festival 2011 sa araw ng Martes kung saan magpi-perform si Jovit Baldivino at local artists at banda sa Bacolod City.

I had worked with three Filipino-Japanese nurses in the hospital. hehehehehe. Its nice seeing these half-breeds growing up Filipino, specifically Negrosanon. I had a handful Japanese friends a long time ago, some of them I met and befriended in two international jamborees of the boy scouts.I hope that these small Japanese communities would pave way for our first international flight in the not so distant future :lol:

Sakto ka Doc. Since recognized mismo sang Japanese Empress ang OISCA activities diri sa main HQ nila sa Negros, I guess we'd be seeing more of them. Direct flight to Tokyo or Osaka, Japan please para ma cement na guid ang Japan - Negros Friendship. :)

Sa Jupiter St. migo damo na da...dal-i lang ko ah.....yes ga fetch ang 500g nga Kimchi around Php 280. La ko labot kun manimaho ang importante manamit.

I hope along with Japanese restos, Korean restos will stand long enough.

Basi Chinese Cabbage gina mean mo migo...thats the one that I prefer most since radish is much more pungent to the nose and tongue.

Anyway sa ma lagaw-lagaw karon sa Masskara, I can't assure you guys makaupod ko sa inyo kay may "pamugas-bugas" pa ko nga diutay sa SM South Wing until 8PM :D

Exactamente! Chinese cabbage pero ka weird lang galing nga gina-usar nila Chinese cabbage, why not madevelop sila Korean Cabbage? :nuts: Agree guid ko nga mas pungent kag weird ang sabor ka radish pero I learned to carry it. Mas love ko ang cabbage version. :)

BACOLOD CITY - Dinayo ng libu-libong turista ang isa sa mga highlights ng Masskara Festival 2011 na street and arena dance competition schools category.

Ito ay sa kabila ng pag-urong ng maraming turista sa pagdalo sa kasiyahan dahil na rin sa problema sa mga flight ng Philippine Airlines (PAL) at sa sobrang mahal ng pamasahe papunta sa Bacolod City.

Fully-booked ang lahat ng hotel at pension house sa lungsod dahil sa dami ng mga dayuhan, gayundin ng mga nagbabalikbayang mga Bacoleños.

Ganap na alas-3:00 ng hapon nagsimula ang competition, kung saan nakilahok ang pitong elementary school at apat ng mga high school.

Sa pagpapatuloy ng okasyon ngayong Linggo, masasaksihan naman ang barangay category na lalahukan ng 10 barangay sa Bacolod.

Inaabangan naman ang Handog Pasasalamat ng Bombo Radyo at Star Fm Concert sa Masskara Festival 2011 sa araw ng Martes kung saan magpi-perform si Jovit Baldivino at local artists at banda sa Bacolod City.

Mahal bala ang real estate kung ara guid nayun sa baybay. :lol: Unless basurahan ina nga lugar sang una like Palmas Del Mar. Those two buildings can be renovated kag isahun. Ang former Gibo Volunteer Center pwede ang lugar ka retail component. :D

I really hope next year somebody will take some time to broadcast the events over the web, live streaming. Mas nami pa gid na kay ang mga indi kapuli nga Bacolodnon maka lantaw man and at the same time marketing tool man for Bacolod. I suggest the city place HD web cameras all over strategic locations in the city and broadcast events as they unfold.

BACOLOD City —The provincial government plans to make Negros Occidental as a top sports destination in the country through sporting events, particularly football.

Angel Verdeflor, executive assistant to the governor for sports and youth development, revealed this as he said the province will host a one-week exhibition game between the London football club and local football clubs here.

After the several national and international football leagues and tournaments hosted by the province, the sport, dubbed as the “most beautiful game in the world,” has become more popular and widely accepted in the country, Verdeflor said.

Through the Negros Football League (NFL), the provincial government under Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. plans to conduct a football development program that will ensure the province’s continued hosting and holding of local, national and international football games, he said.

Inviting international football clubs to play in the province, particularly in the Panaad Sports and Recreational Stadium, will improve the level of competition among sports teams and clubs, athletes and enthusiasts in local government units in Negros Occidental, he said.

Physically, mentally and emotionally developing the youth will also be a primordial consideration in the planned sports development program of the province, he said.

Initiating sponsorship and management of football tournaments will also help discover talented football players in the province, Verdeflor said.

Marañon is keen on promoting high-level sports development in Negros Occidental, and holistic development among in-school and out-of-school youths through sports, he stressed.

The friendly games between the London football club and local football clubs under the NFL will be on October 21 to November 5. They will be held at the Panaad stadium./PN

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. confirmed they are fast-tracking the construction of Negros First Cyber Park at the Paglaum Sports Complex, as there are already investors who would like to rent spaces.

Marañon said he was already informed by former Bacolod Councilor Jocelle Segue, his IT consultant, that a company is now waiting to rent space for a call center at the Cyber Park.

The Provincial Government expects to earn P70 million a year from the rentals of the three-storey building.

The Provincial Board has already given Marañon the authority to represent the province and enter into a loan agreement with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) for the P400-million loan to be availed by Capitol for the construction of the cyber park.

Meanwhile, lawyer Jose Maria Valencia, Marañon’s chief of staff, has also confirmed the demolition of the remaining wall of the building formerly occupied by the Negros Occidental Teacher's Federation (NOTF) at the corner of Hernaez and Lacson Streets, as the structure poses danger to the public. It would also give way for the construction of the cyber park.

Marañon stressed that the bidding for the construction of the cyber park will be held soon.

The cyber park will have shopping centers at the ground floor and an IT park at the second, with a dormitory at the third floor. (Teresa Ellera-Dulla)

BARANGAY Banago won this year’s MassKara Festival street dance competition held at the Bacolod City public plaza Sunday.

Banago outsmarted 14 other barangays that competed fairly well, using live and locally composed tropical music.

Banago Administrator Edgar Sarona said their efforts have paid off after bringing home the grand champion award.

“We have succeeded in reaching our objective of becoming the grand winner. This is the first time that Banago was named as the grand champion. We have really prepared for this for three to four months and thank God, we did it. Our barangay captain Arnel Benjamin and the barangay council of Banago has fully supported our contingent and everyone gave their best effort to really win in the competition,” he said.

Barangay 17 was named 1st runner up; Barangay Tangub, 2nd runner up; Barangay 23, 3rd runner up and Barangay Alijis, 4th runner up.

Banago also bagged the special awards for best in Live Rhythm competition and Best in Concept.

Barangay Alijis was awarded Best in Costume and Best in Mask, while Barangay 17 was awarded as Best in Choreography.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said he is grateful of the turnout of the 32nd MassKara Festival. He thanked the organizers and the public for the success of the festival, saying the good weather was a plus in the smooth celebration.

This year’s MassKara is organized by Silver MassKara Festival Organization Inc. led by Eli Francis Tajanlangit.

Meanwhile, the mayor pointed out that the imposition of the temporary gun ban during the span of the festival successfully delivered zero crime incident as of Sunday.

THE Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) inaugurated on Saturday the P3.6-million waterline extension at Kabuguason Relocation Site which is expected to serve a thousand households in the area.

Bacolod City Water District officials led by general manager Julie Ann Carbon and directors Maida Torre, Greg Gasataya, Cecile Henares and Lawrence Villanueva, with Councilors Homer Bais, Catalino Alisbo, Bobby Rojas, Al Victor Espino, El Cid Familiaran, Carl Lopez and Em Ang and executive assistant Sammy Montoyo inaugurated the facility.

Aside from the waterline extension, Baciwa found it necessary to provide Kabuguason Elementary School with free waterline installation for pupils to have access to clean water when they are in school.

Ang said water is a basic need, thus, assured to make sure schoolchildren will have access to safe, potable drinking water in their school.

Familiaran, meanwhile, said he will find ways how to support the monthly water bills of the school through his civic organization.

Villanueva thanked the people of Kabuguason for the opportunity to serve them, pleading to also take responsibility in conserving water.

Engineer Jenelyn Y. Gemora, Baciwa’s Engineering Department manager, said the residents of Kabuguason spend between P800 and P1,200 a month for their water. With this waterline extension project, Gemora said, residents will only be spending between P201 to P600 a month.

Baciwas also celebrated the Global Hand Washing Day last Saturday. (CNC)

BACOLOD City, Philippines—Negros could become a major source of renewable energy in the Philippines if its sugar mills would be retrofitted to produce electricity from biomass, said Arthur Aguilar, president of Global Business Power Corp.

Aguilar, who spoke on the Visayas Electric Power Situation during the recent 20th Visayas Area Business Conference and Expo in Bacolod City, said that if the sugar mills would be tapped, Negros could export 200 megawatts of clean, renewable energy from biomass.

Negros Island could potentially produce about 310 megawatts of renewable energy using renewable biomass, mini hydro and wind power, he added.

Aguilar also cited other possible sources of power for Negros Occidental such as the province’s seven major river systems.

The seven major river systems could yield between 50 megawatts and 80 megawatts using cascading run-of-the-river mini-hydro technology, he pointed out.

He added that some areas like San Carlos City could yield at least 20 megawatts to 30 megawatts of wind energy.

actually a number of sugar mills are ready for this. But then again the bureaucracy. There would be a lot of permits to process before they are allowed to operate and have this co-generation thing. Some started to process as early as 2 years ago but until now no permit was issued. :bash::bash:

Those closed down sugar mills like Ma-ao Central can be reopened not just for sugar production but energy production. Kung wala lang may gapugong, we might see the resurrection of some closed down mills. I just hope madayun guid ni despite red tape. :D

US Peace Corps volunteer to teach in NegOcc Language Center

A United States Peace Corps Volunteer (PCV) will teach American language and accent to students of the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (NOLITC).

Stacie Self, a PCV volunteer of the Welcome Home Foundation, has chosen the NOLITC to be her secondary project in the Philippines.

She will tutor and train students of NOLITC every week on the actual simulation of the English language with a native speaker.

Self said she wants to teach Filipinos how to speak well in English to make them more feel comfortable in using the language, and have better chances of getting high-earning jobs abroad.

Meanwhile, the language training center, located at the Paglaum Sports Complex, has already started its 100 hours English Language Proficiency (ELP) Training for 40 skilled workers.

This training aims to enhance the English proficiency of skilled workers for them to hurdle the IELTS Exam for possible job outsourcing in Australia and South Korea.

Aside from the ELP the center also offers other competency-based training programs like Finishing Course for Call Center Agents (NCIII) and Contact Center Services (NCII.)*

Envoy impressed with Bacolod fest

Taiwan Ambassador Donald Lee yesterday lauded the MassKara Festival and said it is also popular in Taiwan, and added that he was impressed with the Electric MassKara parade.

He said this is his second visit to Bacolod to witness the MassKara Festival.

Lee, who is the representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, also admired the Bacolod City Government Center and called it the most beautiful city hall in the country.

He paid a call on Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday at the Government Center, with Alex Ting and James Shih, delegates of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, to turn over 25 wheelchairs to the city government for the use of disabled people.

Also present were WBO light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes, and visitors from San Juan Rizal, the Balik Bacolod group led by Al Denila from the United States and the members of the Organization for the Development and Advancement of Negros from Japan led by Eleanor Fukuda.

Leonardia thanked Lee for the donations and for coming for the MassKara Festival, and informed the ambassador of his recent trip to Taiwan with Councilors Em Ang and Caesar Distrito. PATRONS of the institution named La Corona Café must have been disappointed to discover that their favorite hang-out had closed after so many decades. Where else can you get cheap coffee in a non-pretentious place so you can enjoy inexpensive early morning bonding with friends? Out with the old, and in with the new in the form of Kaffe Sadtu.

Located at that post-war wooden building just beside La Corona along Hilado St., Sadtu offers brewed coffee at P15 per cup. And Team Tikim found out for themselves just how good a P15 cup of coffee can be.

Sadtu’s building is located quite some distance away and is nearer the Burgos Public Market but it’s really part of that complex that we know as the Binondo of Bacolod. The 1954 building had undergone many reincarnations and was Aristocrat Bazar, a hardware store, an ice cream house, and battery supply shop in its past lives. What Team Tikim saw during brunch there one Saturday is a quaint, high-ceilinged kapehan that’s the perfect place to let down your hair. Carmen said that I should see the weekday crowd of detailmen, medical representatives, and professionals filling the 32-seater café. I’m happy for her and her two-month-old business.

Dane assures that he uses native coffee beans. “Native” means grown in Negros. The secret to good coffee is in the brewing. I took a peek into the kitchenette. No, Sadtu doesn’t filter its coffee through a sock but gossip is still free.

Let’s go for bigger share of BPO industry – MBCCI

Negros Occidental and Bacolod City still have a huge share of the business process outsourcing industry to tap, we have to go back to the drawing board to map out plans to attract more investors, Frank Carbon, Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce Industry president, said yesterday.

At the 37th Philippines Business Conference at the Manila Hotel last week, Carbon said it was stressed that the BPO industry continues to be growing very fast with the more high paying non-voice BPO work yet to be tapped.

Bacolod City’s BPO industry currently has more than 8,000 employees but nationwide the industry now has about 600,000 so we only have a small portion of this growing market, he said.

President Benigno Aquino last week said the BPO industry has grown by leaps and bounds with 540,000 employees last year, and is forecast to grow to 640,000 this year.

That is why we have to work at getting a bigger share of the pie, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. is right in aiming to construct a building along Lacson and Hernaez streets at the Paglaum Sports Complex site to house BPO firms to create more jobs, Carbon said.

“We have to work in tandem with the academe in Negros to prepare skilled BPO workers for this fast growing industry,” he added.*CPG

None of you I’m sure has missed the sight of those environmentally-unsound plastic sheets that were plastered in many, many public spaces of Bacolod, especially during the last few days when the MassKara Festival was in full swing.

They were merchandizing materials of Smart Communications Inc. promoting their latest campaign. They were placed there in an unauthorized but efficient and systematic manner you couldn’t remove them. I did, and failed. I deployed two teams in an effort to clean those public walls last Saturday and I failed. Before I realized it, the Smart group had a follow-through crew, so that within an hour that those sheets were taken down, up went another set. Depende gid na migs sa imo location. For us ya (somewhere is Lizares Street) ok gid ang tubod. Maka shower pa ko ya using sang Baciwa.

Pero sa parents house ko sa Bata may instance nga hinay gid at times wala na gid.

Nami ang tubig sang Bacólod kay halin sa tuburan, indi sa deep well. Damo pa areas sa Bacólod na potable pa ang tap water for drinking. I just hope indi guid ma compromise ang atun water quality dira. :D

Except siguro sa medyo mataas nga locations like Bata. I remember nga gahina ang pressure sang Baciwa before, esp mga 9 AM-3 PM. I don't know lang kun up to now, amo man gihapon.

Sa Banago naman ya, kusog ang BACIWA,24/7 since nubo ang location.

Spectacular and fabulous gid ya ang presentations ka mga schools and barangays during the MassKara weekend. Our festival has indeed become so BIG. So big, in fact, that IMHO, the MassKara has seriously outgrown the public plaza, that maybe, it is time to look for a BIGGER venue. Daw ka budlay lang na galing kay bal-an ta nga for the last 32 years, ang plaza ang home kag sentro ka MassKara celebrations. Kunsabagay, amo gid na pirmi ang challenge: accommodating progress versus preserving tradition. Yesterday, alas kwatro nagperform ang una nga barangay pero alas dose pa lang puno na ang mga bleachers! The police had to refuse entry to countless others (including tourists!!), kay indi na gid kaigo. Kanugon kay bal-an ta ini nga mga turista kalayo sang ila gintravel tapos kadamo sa ila nga wala nawitness ang centerpiece sg MassKara celebrations. Kapin pa kay grabe gid ya ang creativity sang aton mga choreographers kag mask and costume designers. For example, Brgy 17’s female dancers had multiple wardrobe changes during their performance! The last wardrobe change made them look like flying giant orange butterflies while they ran over a raised catwalk which suddenly materialized in the middle of the arena. BTW, may naglupok nga transformer sa plaza kagapon and one barangay had to perform under low light, pero KUDOS sa mga taga-CENECO, narestore dayon ang mga lights.

what was more delighting is the street sweepers at the end of the parade... most of you did not notice them but they were more important than the dancers because they kept the streets clean after the dancers and the floats have passed. kudos to them...:applause::applause::applause: that is why after all the celebrations and after all the drunks have left the plaza in the morning our streets are clean...

Ay, yes, migo. Most of them were of senior age, but they were quick and efficient. They were also there at the public plaza, sweeping the arena clean at the end of each presentation. :okay::okay::okay:
