EDC's Green Core to supply power to Negros coop

MANILA, Philippines - Green Core Geothermal Inc. (GCGI), the power arm of geothermal leader Energy Development Corp. (EDC), will start delivering clean, reliable and affordable power to Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO) this month.

Based on the power sales agreement signed by the two parties, GCGI will supply 10 megawatts of electricity to CENECO from Dec. 26, 2011 to June 25, 2014, and 20 MW beginning June 26, 2014 up to Dec. 25, 2021.

The University has named a major component of the Ecopark in honor of main benefactors- Jose and Claudio Alunan in whose memory of Tess Limjap, Edgar Alunan and Josefa Puentevella have made a generous donation.

The Jose and Claudio Vaugirard Gardens is a spiritual and wellness complex composed of the Meditation Garden, Mary’s Well, the Via Crucis, the Pieta, Bamboo Hall, Café Verde, swimming pools, a fishing lagoon, picnic sheds, picnic and camping grounds and other support facilities-encompassing the main features of the park.

Meanwhile, the Ecopark Center is dedicated to Br. Rolando Dizon FSC in recognition and appreciation of his creative vision and initiatives in acquiring and developing the 50-hectare property in Granada in pursuit of institutional environmental advocacies and future expansion of academic programs.

“The Br. Rolando Dizon Ecopark Center is a fitting tribute to Br. Roly’s vision and unwavering commitment to our University’s academic growth as well as the various initiatives toward environmental preservation and protection,” Vice Chancellor for Mission and Development Geoffrey Bob Bergante said.

Fr. John Cardinal, Executive Director of the Bacolod Boys’ Home Foundation served as the officiating priest during the blessing of the facilities.

In his words of appreciation, President and Chancellor Br. Raymundo Suplido FSC highlighted that the University will forever be thankful for the generosity of the Alunan Family.

Tokens then were given to family representatives Joemarie Limjap, Josefa Puentevella and Edgar Alunan.

Josefa Puentevella gave a short response in behalf of the family.

If both SM expansion kag Ayala Northpoint mall matapos man before the end of 2011,grabe na gid kadamo sang shops.I'll be better shop from the Ayala while sa SM medyo reserve ako because they're too much cautious sa market sang Bacolod.

The next total lunar eclipse will be on 2014 pa so, basi sa next time indi nami ang weather or indi na visible sa Philippines. May meteors pa gani kagab-i as it neared totality. Its nice ah nga those simple things like rainbows and eclipses are there kay para malingaw man ta kag ma-appreciate ang wonders of the natural world. Katalaka abi kun pirmi na lang pollution, mga problema sa gov't and mga things that hinder us to feel good.:banana::banana::banana:

Kanami na guid sang ila facilities a! It all started with small reforestation projects and now, damo na guid trees kag daw resort na guid man siya. Indi na ko magquote pics kay kadamo. Pwede na da ayhan ma-rent for private functions? :cheers:

Nami kay gin amat amat nila ilisan ang gmelina sang endemic species, ang entrance da last time 100 pesos for the whole day including use of the swimming pool, nagaplano man na da sila kuno na matanum sang mga organic herbs and vegetables to be maintained by ICA for their culinary needs sa school, I dunno kon natigayon.

Capitol to preserve NOPJ landmarks

The site of the defunct Negros Occidental Provincial jail owned by the provincial government is up for lease but historical landmarks at the facility will be preserved, Jose Ma. Valencia, chief of staff of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., said yesterday.

He cited the jail arch, and bricks that date back to 1889.

The governor has ordered the preservation of these materials, Valencia said.

Valencia said he will recommend to the governor that the proposal of 888 Chinatown Square to lease the property to construct a three-storey structure, with the third floorserving as a parking area that can accommodate about 250 vehicles, be published.

The publication will trigger a public bidding, he added.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan this week granted the governor authority to decide what to do with the property.*CPG

I asked ngaa may relocation sila sa Dumaguete... the Recruitment Senior Manager (whom I PERSONALLY KNOW since she came from CONVERGY'S Bacolod as Team Lead for Mediacom account) told me that a "certain" new site is not meeting expectations and for almost a year, stagnant daw ila nga status sa recruits (sa ila mismo nga Lugar ha) amo na nga always sila may Job Caravan sa Dumaguete, Bacolod, Cebu and Davao...

Most nga mga agents nila either came from Manila, Cebu, Dumaguete and Davao... ila mga Team Specialists daw mostly halin pa sa Convergy's Bacolod or Accenture Cebu... Hambal nya, they are still deciding whether or not the certain site will be relocated either Dumaguete or Bacolod, pero hambal nya sa akon, their initial notice is to inform "Qualified" agents for the financial account that the relocation would be in Dumaguete... but disclosed to me that out of the 85 nga i train nila for the positions, 39 are from Bacolod (some were re-deployed from their Office here in Manila para mag-man sang "certain" new site nila...)

Bacolod or Dumaguete... Bisan diin lang sa ila ah... TATAK NEGRENSE na ya!!! :lol::lol::lol::lol:

(unfortunately, wala ko guin accept ang offer nila since OK na OK na guid ko di subong sa bag-o ko nga work... at least FIXED ang schedule and Sat-Sun ang Day off... tawhay pa ka account and WORTH IT guid ang pay... :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:)

THE City Government of Bacolod and the Negros Occidental Cycling Federation (Nocfed) staged the 1st Bacolod Eco-Tour Mountain Bike (MTB) Adventure race at Hda. San Francisco Lake Resort, the newest tourist destination in Barangay Alangilan.

Race chairman Dan Ramirez said bikers and runners from Batangas, Palawan, Manila, Dumaguete, Iloilo, Cebu, Davao and Bacolod competed in the various events.

The event is aimed at attracting foreign and domestic tourists and at helping develop the place as an eco-tourism destination, according to the organizers.

Nocfed also invited Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, former Commission on Elections Commissioner Guyo Larrazabal and Richard and Lucy Gomez.

“We are all happy that this was successfully staged with the help of the City Government and also of Michael Bantug, president of the Bantug Realty Corporation which owns the venue of this sports event. This resort is so beautiful and fitting as a venue of this competition,” said Ramirez.

For his part, Vice Mayor Sayson said, “We have something big here. Alangilan is a potential area to be included in the sports tourism calendar of the Philippines. This is now the CamSur (Camarines Sur) of Bacolod. Alangilan is our secret weapon against Camsur,” he said.

Sugar Act to set ‘floor price’

REPRESENTATIVE Albee Benitez (3rd district, Negros Occidental) assured that the prices of sugar will not drop like what happened this crop year if the Sugar Act that he authors is passed into law.

Benitez, who was at Victorias gym Sunday for his medical mission, said that under his bill, the government through the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) will more efficiently regulate country’s sugar supply and demand and establish a floor price for sugar.

He said the SRA presently faces difficulties in monitoring the sugar supply and demand. Under the Sugar Act, the regulatory body will be given additional powers to set the price and put some safety measures to protect the industry and avoid abuses by those involved in the industry themselves.

And to think of it the CamSur Watersports Complex is not anymore in the jurisdiction of Naga City. Ang Bacolod City ya kumpleto ang terrain: coastal, marshland,brackish water swamp, urban city, suburban residential, wide plains, rolling hills, rivers, springs, mountain slopes and highland trails :banana:
Big advantage guid of Bacólod to include mountainous areas kay in itself, it can serve as a nature destination. :lol: No "plastic surgery" needed to be done just to beautify it. ;)

Sartorio also won two silver medals. Kiefer Piccio also had eight gold medals to emerge second best Filipino performer.

Bacolod City has been identified as a possible target city for the Investment Enabling Environment (INVEST) Project of the United States for International Development, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said Saturday.

The two-year INVEST project that was approved by the USAID in September 2011, envisions developing model cities that can inspire other local government units to seek higher levels of economic performance.

A team from the INVEST Project led by Ofelia Templo, chief of party, met with Leonardia and other officials Thursday to discuss the project and to request for a briefing on the economic developments of Bacolod and the future plans of the city government.

USAID acting mission director Reed Aeschliman, in a letter dated Nov. 10, 2011, had informed Leonardia of the selection of Bacolod City as a possible recipient of the USAID assistance through the INVEST Project.

P100M set for EB Magalona port

The Philippine Ports Authority has allocated P100 million for the development of a port in Brgy. Tuburan, EB Magalona, Negros Occidental, Rep. Alfredo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said yesterday.

Benitez said the design of the Tuburan Port is now completed, and will soon to be presented to Mayor David Albert Lacson.

Earlier, Lacson welcomed the effort of Benitez to push for a budget in the rehabilitation of Tuburan Port, which will be the nearest route from Banate in Iloilo to E.B. Magalona in northern Negros.

The BacoLaodiat Festival, or the Chinese New Year celebration in Bacolod City, set on January 20-23, 2012, will welcome the majestic Year of the Dragon, the 5th animal in the 12 year cycle of the Chinese Zodiac.

USAID eyes Bacolod as target city

Bacolod City has been identified as a possible target city for the Investment Enabling Environment (INVEST) Project of the United States for International Development, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said Saturday.

The two-year INVEST project that was approved by the USAID in September 2011, envisions developing model cities that can inspire other local government units to seek higher levels of economic performance.

A team from the INVEST Project led by Ofelia Templo, chief of party, met with Leonardia and other officials Thursday to discuss the project and to request for a briefing on the economic developments of Bacolod and the future plans of the city government.

USAID acting mission director Reed Aeschliman, in a letter dated Nov. 10, 2011, had informed Leonardia of the selection of Bacolod City as a possible recipient of the USAID assistance through the INVEST Project.

Bacolod's ATLAS gets slot in KaSaMa

BACOLOD CITY, December 9 (PIA) -– A Bacolod based initiative was one of the 14 programs chosen from 147 entries in this year’s “Karapatan sa Malikhaing Paraan: the Search for Innovative Philippine Human Rights Initiatives” or KaSaMa, a press release from the group said.

In the 2011 awarding ceremony of the group held recently in Quezon City, Arnel Sigue represented the Anti-Trafficking Legal Advocates Society (ATLAS), a network of lawyers, paralegal and volunteers specializing in cases of and designed to combat trafficking in persons.

ATLAS was chosen for its proposed private prosecutor fund and training project covering Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

The grant for ATLAS is sponsored by the Australian Embassy. The search was adjudged based on the criteria of innovation and creativity, potential impact and value-added results, cost effectiveness and organizational capacity.*(CAD/JCM/PIA6/KaSaMa)

^^i can see the coliseum so i presume this is just beside it. kanmi kay its along the national hi-way lang gid.:) ga was-was man ang victorias. mayo gid ang tandem sang mayor kag congressman. progress can be felt and seen.:) mahilig gid ang taga negros sa tubig because of the presence of these waterparks across the island. maybe because we have an abundant source, that's why.

I think this is for the free movie viewing sa Victorias City Plaza area. Star Movies ang gagwa sa screen... cable ni gali. :lol:

^^i can see the coliseum so i presume this is just beside it. kanmi kay its along the national hi-way lang gid.:) ga was-was man ang victorias. mayo gid ang tandem sang mayor kag congressman. progress can be felt and seen.:) mahilig gid ang taga negros sa tubig because of the presence of these waterparks across the island. maybe because we have an abundant source, that's why.

yes mego it's just right beside the coliseum, and ara lng sa national highway, may ara olympic size pool with mini stadium for sporting events...

Tingala ko man nga ka-afford sila cable kay sila na mismo tag-iya ka cable company. :lol: Much has changed with Victorias na guid. :D

Sila na naman gani nga tatlo liwat pero in the Gokongwei hometown pa mismo a. :lol: Hopefully, more of RLC projects in our city man. :D

^^kulang na lang sang RLC sa bacolod is their residential component, both vertical and horizontal. they already have a mall, cybergate and hotel. hopefully sa condo-type naman nga development and also sa high-end hotel brands.:cheers::banana::banana::banana:

I saw a College building under construction in Victorias months ago... 4 floors bala mo.. Tapos and operational na ni migs ...? :)

Negrense President of Panay Energy Development Corp. (PEDC) Arthur Aguilar urged active sugar centrals to “retrofit” their high pressure boilers which were operating for the past century and transform Negros into the center of renewable energy exporting some 200 megawatts (MW) he estimated to be at P7.00 per KWH.

According to Aguilar, these mills could double the amount of electricity they produce for the same ton of bagasse and added, “Commercial technology now exists to enable present sugar mills in Negros to export approximately 200MW on the same bagasse supply.

Speaking before Negros power sector and industries last December 6 during the year end gathering organized by Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI), Aguilar said, “I am no longer speaking as President of a coal-fired power plant but as a Negrense.”

Counting the capacity of sugar centrals biomass, wind and hydro power, he explained “Negros could potentially produce approximately 310MW of renewable energy”; which is EVAT-free and cheap because consumers do not need to pay high transmission and line rentals.

This solves the problem of Negros which is suffering from 64 MW deficit right now and is projected to shoot up to 93 MW given an annual growth rate of 4.86 percent but which stands to be readjusted as population apparently is uncontrolled and assuming no additional capacity.

Likewise, with biomass technology available in every sugar central, price per kilowatt could lower to P7.00 estimate.

With 310 MW renewable energy resources, biomass, wind and hydro, enjoyed by the Island but remained untapped for the past century, the province could become “The Saudi Arabia of Renewable Energy” transforming itself into a net exporter rather than dependent on energy sources found in other provinces which may not be available in times of need, Aguilar also explained.
