VMC is the largest sugar mill in the Province and has done great things but I hope the city also find other means of income kay sugar is not a stable market commodity. :) Damo ko da pariente nga nag-work before so sentimental guid ang VMC sa family ko. :D

Inviting Investments. During the reception for the birthday of the Japanese Emperor at the Ambassador’s official residence, SM Supermalls President Hans Sy (left) confirmed to Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia (right) that he has gone over his latest "SOCA" and has a good picture of the dynamism of the economy in Bacolod. Leonardia personally assured Sy that the local government has cultivated the environment of Bacolod and the economy is very fertile for big investments. Also in the picture is Bacolod First Lady Elsa Leonardia (center).

^^kamo na lang haum-haum kon ano ila gin-storyahan ah. indi man guro about lovelife? i think the presence of madame elsa is a plus-plus factor having served as VP and head of BDO WV loans department for a long time. there's the connection.
I hope, his words will not just be pleasantries and he'll do his magic in Bacólod and even the rest of Negros Occidental. Hopefully, we'd see more in the SM expansion like what was posted threads ago.
I-cross ko guid ang tanan... except sa mata. Budlay na na ya karun kung libat. SM must prove its worth sa atun kag sa pumuluyo sang Negros Occidental, so as @lbee too. Since close sila nga duwa, I just hope @lbee will encourage SM. :)
^^ah-uhmmm. i seal my lips.:lol: but, its already common knowledge and the news reports confirm it that SM city bacolod expansion is already included in their 2012 budget. :)

It may be true that sugar is not that stable. But with the re-opening of the distillery in Manapla somewhat ensures that VMC would not be purely selling sugar. The Manapla distillery by the way is owned and operated by VMC which would provide the alcohol requirement of Tanduay due to the stoppage of the operation of Asian Alcohol in Pulupandan. There was an article posted here several threads ago regarding the plan of Tanduay to expand its plant in Murcia as well as its plans to penetrate the US liquor market. BY CARLA GOMEZ
The $1 million state of the art dredger purchased by the provincial government has arrived and the priority for its use will be flood prone areas of the province, Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday.
He said the dredger was assembled in Sagay City where the people who will operate it are also being trained on its use.
The priority areas for its use will be EB Magalona, San Enrique and Victorias that have flooding problems, he said.

200 MW of Electric Energy @ P7.00
By Gil Alfredo B. Severino
Negrense President of Panay Energy Development Corp. (PEDC) Arthur Aguilar urged active sugar centrals to “retrofit” their high pressure boilers which were operating for the past century and transform Negros into the center of renewable energy exporting some 200 megawatts (MW) he estimated to be at P7.00 per KWH.
Speaking before Negros power sector and industries last December 6 during the year end gathering organized by Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI), Aguilar said, “I am no longer speaking as President of a coal-fired power plant but as a Negrense.”

Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano and the Silay License and Permits Division yesterday said in a press release that there will be new and quicker steps of issuing and renewing of business permits and licenses starting January 1, 2012, as part of its One Stop Shop Program.
Silay License and Permits head Corazon Carado said the giving out of the regulatory clearances is first in the process.
The joint inspection team, consisting of the Silay City Engineer’s Office and the Bureau of Fire, will inspect in advance the businesses of the applicants and after regulatory clearances are issued, they can proceed in processing their business permits, Carado said in the press release.*

^^gina underestimate gid guro nila ang ciudad ta or basi their feasibility study was done a year ago pa until they realize nga they were wrong, that's why pirmi lang may additional floors. hehe
yep since indi regional center ang Bacolod, a general perspective map would always highlight regional cities, so investors would have the notion that investing on regional center is a "safe move" since they are perceived to be "more developed and more advanced" than its components. so Bacolod was always missed by investors from the big city...but things have changed for our favor naman ah...its our time to shine naman
ang sadya pa gid mig indi lang ACCC ang crowning glory of development, we can consider BGC to be one, SM city, ANPCC, rpb and cdip area... and who knows the old airport, eroreco area these are the areas identified as potential growth indi lang concentrated sa isa ka area but distributed in different locations...everybody happy! just like Cebu.
Lapta-lapta gawa ang developments ah....it will benefit a lot as the city would grow in a much "parallel" level

Mr. Kalamay December 13th, 2011, 02:09 PM It may be true that sugar is not that stable. This little things would somewhat provide an alternative market for sugarcane.
since maaso gihapon ang simboryo ni VMC buhi buhi gihapon si Victorias.
Early next year will be the installation of 750 mL (long neck) fully automated line in Murcia Plant of Tanduay, right now they're on 90% completion of their storage tank expansion. Also next year hopefully the re opening of Asian Alcohol but of with the same old distilling machines since their newly purchased equipment were diverted to absolute chemicals in Batangas. Asian Alcohol by the way before its closure was in their expansion and modernization kaso lang sa natabo gin pang kakas na lang kag gin padala sa Batangas, a move nga gin punggan pa tani ni pena but wala sya mahimo.:ohno::ohno:

Mr. Kalamay December 13th, 2011, 03:49 PM and this is the reason why VMC and the Manapla Distillery came into the picture. Since Tanduay would want to have a steady supply of alcohol. RepublicaNegrense December 13th, 2011, 04:02 PM yep since indi regional center ang Bacolod, a general perspective map would always highlight regional cities, so investors would have the notion that investing on regional center is a "safe move" since they are perceived to be "more developed and more advanced" than its components. so Bacolod was always missed by investors from the big city...but things have changed for our favor naman ah...its our time to shine naman
The city's growth seems to create a wrong but really sweet impression that we are a regional center when we are actually just a mere provincial capital. Investors are starting to invest outside traditional regional political centers nowadays.

Sorghum biofuel plant mulled
The Department of Agriculture (DA) is in talks with San Carlos Bioenergy Inc. (SCBI) for the construction of a bioethanol processing plant in Negros Occidental to push the development of sweet sorghum in the province.
In a statement, the DA-Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAR) said discussions between the government and SCBI are beginning to shape the prospect of a commercial scale sweet sorghum-based ethanol production in line with the implementation of the Biofuels Act of 2006.

bacolodchamp December 14th, 2011, 06:07 AM Post tariff protection in Sugar Act sought

Wednesday, December 14, 2011
[quote]WHILE the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) expressed support for the Sugar Act proposed in Congress by third district Representative Albee Benitez, the group is asking him to include post tariff protection for the sugar industry in 2016.
In a letter to Benitez, MBCCI presented Potential Strategies for the Sugar Industry which includes the promotion of the Ethanol Program to serve as stabilizer for the sugar industry, restoration of districting to avoid waste in transportation, fuel expenses, repairs and maintenance for the farmers.
The business group also urged fast-tracking of co-generation of electricity that will utilize farm wastes to give additional income to farmers and laborers. Cogeneration will give massive employment and boiler feedstock for year round electricity generation, the group said.
MBCCI likewise pushed for clustering of small farms to achieve economies of scale and maximization of mechanization, as sugarcane is a deep-rooted crop which is not suited for carabao technology.
To be able to have better and improved production, MBCCI also suggested deployment and intensification of inputs and technology, such as introduction of hybrid varieties, fertilization, irrigation and intensified inter-cropping using rice, soybean, peanuts and mungbean.
For the welfare of the sugarcane planters, MBCCI suggested to Benitez that the Sugar Act should incorporate the review of the Social Amelioration Fund that can be utilized for investments to create whole-year-round jobs for farm workers and their dependents.
Income from the investments should be reinvested to create more jobs, jobs create jobs and to create jobs for displaced sugar farm workers due to mechanization, it added.
Benitez has been encouraging the stakeholders in the sugar industry to submit their proposals which will be included in the Sugar Act.

Bacolod City News Danny Dangcalan Negros Business Negros Occidental Philippines
By Danny B. Dangcalan
The bidding for the construction of the Negros First Cyber Center that is estimated to cost P450 million is set December 27, Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said.
The bidding process is expected to be finished in February next year, after which, construction will start immediately, Marañon earlier said. The three-storey Cyber Center will be an IT (Information Technology) that will house commercial spaces on the ground floor, call center on the second floor and dormitory for students on the third floor. The center is expected to provide 9,000 direct jobs, and 27,000 more indirect jobs, the governor also earlier said. Board Member Salvador Escalante, chairman of the Sangguniang Pan-lalawigan Committee on Infrastructure and Committee on Finance, said the loan amounting to P450 million for the Cyber Center has already been approved by the Development Bank of the Philippines.
The P450-million loan includes site development and parking space at the Paglaum Sports Complex, he said.*

^^what do you mean by "not perfected"? the technology is there already @RN. as a matter of fact, these types of products are widely used now. SCBI's ethanol (from sugar) is already earmarked to petron. maybe, what you're trying to say is the government policies which really need to be perfected in support of the program which was the case why SCBI sometime early this year halted the production because there were no clear-cut policies on pricing.:)

I know there is already a technology there but that technology has not been maximized yet. Negros must focus first and maximize this technology using sugarcane first before integrating sorghum here. Also, damo ta local products that can be extracted for bioethanol like balinghoy and other bean crops. There is no need to introduce a new plant for that yet. boy muscovado December 14th, 2011, 03:45 PM ^^kag wala man na include ang bacolod sa study sang most vulnerable cities to climate change a. so, we need not worry although we must be on a look-out always as no one is spared like flash floods which is a common seen na in almost all places in the world. but, the thing is our local government are working double time to at least minimize damage to life and properties like the recently acquired dredger by the provincial government and the constant clearing of waterways by the city government.:)
Basta ara ta sa Pilipinas we are very vulnerable gid ta sa mga natural disasters. And except for ARMM, SOCCSKARGEN, Davao Region and Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Sur, no part of the Philippines is "typhoon-free". We seldom have typhoons hitting us directly but three of the worst typhoons of the country ravaged our province with a record-toll of death and destruction. Plus the fact that we have an active volcano in our midst and two more dormant nearby. Although we don't have active faults on the mainland, but Negros Trench down south can snap and trigger and earthquake that could be large enough to spawn tsunamis.
Amo na ang nami kun sigehon sang Negros update kag hasa sang mga disaster response teams naton and sige man ang disaster and urban planning authorities. Our city's drainage systems are getting old and clogged, our creeks and rivers are narrowed by developments, catch basins are being filled-up and almost every area is being concreted. With climate changing, these multiple factors would mean higher surface run-off, erosion and siltation. So maka experience na gid ang Bacolod from time to time localized flooding esp. sa coastal and lower areas and mga major flooding in every decade
Then mga old structures ta nga mapuslan pa i-reinforce and demolish those unhabitable. then i-zone sang maayo ang mga medium to high rise constructions should not be on alluvial soil or reclaimed areas.
we need to learn it from Japan and California, Florida (US) where even how sophisticated and how trained and prepared they are, nature could really find way to catch up everyone with surprise.

BACOLOD City – The MassKara Festival has become one of the country’s prime festivals, with more corporate sponsors coming in, confident in the capability of the festival organizers to deliver on their marketing needs.
MassKara festival director Eli F. J. Tajanlangit, in his report titled “MassKara 2011: A Report to the People” delivered before the Sangguniang Panlungsod at the Planta Hotel yesterday, said “The increase (in sponsorship revenues) is a reflection of (our) sponsors’ confidence in our ability to deliver what they need.”
“From P6.6 million in 2004, we were able to raise P8.3 million this year, allowing us to expand the festival and add more major activities.”
Of the amount, P5.9 million came from sponsorships, P1.018 from rentals of booths and alleys, P1.2 million from carnival rights, and the rest from other marketing activities, he said.
He said the festival had P7.5 million in total expenses, or a net savings of P801,846 that will now form the seed money for the 2012 festival.

@dark spirit December 14th, 2011, 07:01 PM FROM Lifestyles Bacolod (http://www.lifestylesbacolod.com/featured-articles/bacolods-new-public-spaces/)
Bacolod’s new public spaces
Finally, we are seeing the rise of public spaces in Bacolod that consider the public’s needs, spaces where we can breathe, perhaps play and run, and see the big blue sky.
http://www.lifestylesbacolod.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/centralwalktemplate.jpg
New public spaces in Bacolod now leave plenty square meters for the public to breath and take in the sun and sky.
Beginning with the Bacolod Government Center with its big parking space and huge, wide plaza where children can tumble and jump and people walk, jog, run or just laze around, we are seeing spaces built by enlightened people who see how they will eventually be used and provided for this accordingly.
There is Art District in Mandalagan, a cluster of structures for commercial use that have eventually become a one-stop restaurant circuit housing an interesting mix of restos serving different types of cooking.
There is also Balay Quince, along Lacson St., which has despite the limited acreage a lawn of green, a patch really, but one that has decidedly defined it as an attraction in a highway built of glass, concrete and asphalt. Something has to be said about how visionary the owners of this place are – to give up a few precious square meters for a garden, along the city’s most expensive street, when others are eating up the road already, speaks not just of respect for design but for the people who will use it. Hopefully, the rest of Lacson St. and other commercial areas in the city can follow suit – there are plenty of dividends to be had when one considers things other than the rental per square meter.
Also in Mandalagan, Robinsons has just opened Central City Walk, what may well be the first open-air mini-mall in the city, with centralized security and a common area where events can be staged. There is a predominance of restos there now, but there are shops as well. There’s a fountain that looks like that one in Universal Studios Singapore people can gawk at – I still have to see someone bathe there as I once did in USS.
