Negros Occidental to develop culinary tourism

BACOLOD CITY -- Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. said he will push for the development of culinary tourism to further showcase the province’s distinction for good food.

"Because of our expertise in food, we will call our advocacy ‘culinary tourism,’" he said at the opening of the 6th Negros Island Organic Farmers’ Festival last week, which featured a cookfest of Manila-based chefs.

"Negros Occidental is indeed drawing tourists for its culinary attractions because the province is known for its good food and organic produce," he said.

Based on the National Statistics Office’s 2010 Household Survey on Domestic Visitors, Negros Occidental is the most visited province by domestic travelers in the Visayas, followed by Cebu, Iloilo, Leyte and Capiz.

Christine Mansinares, supervising tourism operations officer of Negros Occidental, said in a radio interview that the province’s accessibility plays a major role in attracting tourists, based on a survey conducted by the Provincial Tourism Office.

She also said that Negros Occidental topped the NSO survey because of the quality of its accommodations and attractions, and food.

The province has also made an impact in agri-tourism. In 2010, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) recorded 924 agri-tours and 1,875 direct bookings for agri-tourism destinations, especially to various organic farms and parks in the province.

i didn't know sipalay was used to be a barangay of cauayan...if we are to look at the pattern, those government units that separated from their "mother" towns had went on to become cities and became more progressive than the town where they used to belong...to cite a few:

kabankalan - used to be part of ilog

posted in the BaSIA thread...all systems go na gid!!!

^^ HERE are some of the changes in BSIA that I recently noticed. Interviewed some airport employees I knew and here are some of what they said:

TERMINAL FEE COUNTER now located in the middle of the check-in counters.

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/379880_2163094251701_1676952242_1477847_4310384_n.jpg

The former terminal fee counter before the pre-departure area is now reserved for immigration counters. Terminal fee to be charged is still P200.00, not sure if they'll charge those leaving for international flights with P500.00 or P750.00

NEW Shop(s), beside Gate 1 and 2 near the Expensive Massage.

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/383237_2163096411755_1676952242_1477849_1046679121_n.jpg

Airport terminal will be converted into an international terminal during the hours of 10PM onwards whenever the flight to ICN is on track since it's the only international flight leaving BSIA during those times. Therefore there is no conflict between catering domestic passengers and international passengers. This is according to one CAAP employee I talked to.

Arrival area, will have an Immigration counter as well and a Customs Counter near the tourism information area.

Isa lang mahambal ko, REPAIR the Aircon now. Kaya tani BSIA! Go go go!

To give P1.5M to storm-hit areas
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The Negros Occidental Sangguniang Panlalawigan yesterday allocated P1.5 million as assistance of the provincial government to the typhoon hit areas of Negros Oriental, Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City, Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez said.

Each area will be given P500,000 each to be delivered next week, Board Member Salvador Escalante, SP Finance Committee chairman, said.

This is on top of donations being made by the private sector in Negros Occidental, he said.

The P1.5 million was taken from the provincial government's untouched calamity fund for this year, which totals P88 million, Escalante said.

Institutionalization of NOCHCP, withdrawal from PhilHealth set
BY GILBERTR BAYORAN

The institutionalization of the universal health care program of the Negros Occidental provincial government is inching towards reality after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved yesterday on first reading an ordinance institutionalizing the Negros Occidental Comprehensive Health Care Program.

Instead of contributing about P60 to 70 million to PhilHealth next year, the amount will be instead be given to NOCHCP to cover the health insurance of its members, he said.

That will raise the total amount the provincial government will put into NOCHCP to P100 million, he said.

He said this year the province contributed P70 million to PhilHealth but the Negrenses covered by the amount only availed of P20 million in medical services, while PhilHealth gave the province P20 million back, allowing it to still make a profit, Escalante said.

NOCHP forms part of the Negros First Provincial Executive-Legislative Agenda for 2010 to 2013, which is one the priority programs of Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. that seeks to provide comprehensive health care to indigents in the province.

Exhibitors post P2 million in sales at organic festival

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday called the 6 th Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival that ended Tuesday “very, very successful.”

He said the festival sales totaled P2 million, five times the amount generated last year.

And more importantly, the country's top chefs are impressed with the organic produce of the province and promise to come back next year, he said.

They promised to help sell our organic food in Manila, which is good news for our farmers, he said.

The Organic Restaurant had the highest sale of P635,115, she said.

West Negros University generated P85,930 in sales from its food dehydrator machine and herbal capsule products while Ilog town had a generated sale of P61,934 from its oysters and other sea food products, she also said.

Other top sellers were Masipag-Negros with P51,807 and Humanayan Ministry with P46,170. Both sell organic rice and vermicast fertilizer for Humayan Ministry, she added.

CENECO energizes 2nd Bago substation

The Central Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. launched and energized the second substation of Bago City with a 10 mega voltage ampere capacity in Brgy. Lag-asan yesterday.

Sulpicio Lagarde Jr., general manager of CENECO, said the city will now have a total of 15MVA that will provide electricity to all residents and consumers of Bago, since the 10MVA feeder in Brgy. Calumangan will be replaced with a 5MVA.

The 10MVA feeder will be transferred and used in Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod City, to serve residents of Brgy. Handumanan.

Bago City Vice Mayor Nicolas Yulo said electric power is now evenly distributed to all consumers and if problems occur, they will be isolated.

He also said that the new substation will give them sustainable power and convince more investors to come to Bago City.

Zosimo Briones, Negros head of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, also assured Bago City of their commitment to provide assistance to CENECO and its consumers.

Meanwhile, CENECO will start upgrading some of its substations in Bacolod City and put up a new one in Murcia starting January next year.

Lagarde said the Burgos substation in Bacolod City will be upgraded from 10 mega watts to 30 mega watts while the 10 mega watts from Burgos will be transferred and used in Murcia town for its first substation.

Starting August next year, CENECO will also put a 30MVA substation at the Capitol Civic Center that Ayala Land is set to develop, he said.

The 30MVA will partly relieve the Mt. View substation and will serve the projects of Ayala Land including Robinsons Place, Convergys, and other consumers in the area, he also said.

Lagarde also said that if all these projects are pursued next year, CENECO will have a 185-megawatt installed capacity, making it the biggest electric distributor in the Philippines.

Their franchise area is serving 144,000 consumers from Bacolod City, Silay City, Murcia, Don Salvador Benedicto, and Bago City, he added.*LTG

Ang Sulu Sea is really a very rich fishing ground and damu na da tuna. that's why and Southern Iloilo, guimaras, southern Negros, Palawan (incl. Cagayancillo), Misamis Occ. and Zamboanga del Norte have large catches of mackerel, tuna, sardines, blue marlin, etc.

daw may ara man gani tinagong dagat sa silay

Kadamo bala sang tinagong dagat diri sa Western Visayas. As far as I know amo ini ang mga "tinagong dagat":

Tinagong Dagat, Patag, Silay City - a lagoon at the collapsed crater of Mt.Mandalagan

Tinagong Dagat, Lambunao, Iloilo - a small lake nestled on an elevated mountain shoulder

Tinagong Dagat, Concepcion, Iloilo - An elongated inlet

Tinagong Dagat, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental - a complex system of narrow inlets and coves

Hmmmm,la pa ko ya bi kakadto sa Sipalay. But based on my foreign patients sang una in Boracay nga naga kadto man sa Sipalay, mas nami-an to sila since accessible sya all the way from Bacolod and Dumaguete and they love the coral reefs and dive spots there.

Tani kun nadayun ang airstrip sa McLain, Buenavista may ara na commercial airport ang Guimaras like the one in Caticlan, ma boom na boom pa gid ila tourism from its current status since ma enjoy ang mga tourists road trips and boat rides all over the island. Imagine duwa ang gateway sang Guimaras dayon...via Iloilo and a direct one sa ila airport. Plus mas madasig ang padal-anay mangoes thru air freight.

I'm not sure if na post na ini before...but I think this is just awesome.

A Negros Occidental city is the second most livable city in the world for a population not exceeding 150,000.

During awarding rites held in South Korea on Oct. 31, San Carlos City was cited as the second most livable among cities with a population of 75,000-150,000.

The most livable city with that kind of population was Tongyeong in South Korea, where the awarding rites were held for the UN-backed International Awards for Liveable Communities (LivCom).

The third most livable city in that category was Namown, also in South Korea, according to the LivCom website.

The annual awards recognize cities based on their performance in several criteria, including environmental practices, healthy lifestyle of citizens, community involvement, arts and cultural heritage.

San Carlos was the only Philippine city which won in the “whole city awards.” It also won the “Special Whole City Award.”

The contest for cities has five categories based on their average daytime population of 20,000 to those with over 400,000.

This year’s awards had 77 finalist cities from 26 countries, the largest so far in the awards’ 15-year history, according to a LivCom statement.

Bacolod Silay to Open International Next Year
December 8, 2011

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines approved the gateway status of Bacolod-Silay Airport as a new International Airport for the Philippines after Kalibo was opened few years ago.

"This is in line with the Open Skies Policy of the Government" says Ramon S. Gutierrez, CAA Director General.

Four more airports are slated for conversion to gateway status before 2015, the deadline set by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as international entry point into the country. The regional group is implementing the second stage of the ASEAN Open Skies Agreement.
The other airports considered for gateway status are Legaspi,Tacloban,Cagayan De Oro and Iloilo

Na highlight na ni diri, two months ago I think.Medyo late na ang Inquirer pero its an achievement for San Carlos that is hard to be replicated.

Send goods, not cash,
NegOr solon appeals
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Rep. George Arnaiz (Neg. Or, 2nd District) yesterday appealed for help from Negros Occidental in goods, not cash, for the thousands who lost their homes when Tropical Storm Sendong hit Negros Oriental.

It won’t be a merry Christmas in Negros Oriental, where many lost almost everything they own and have no houses to go home to, Arnaiz said at a meeting with Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. at the provincial Capitol in Bacolod City.

The Negros Occidental provincial government has allocated P500,000 each to Negros Oriental, Cagayan de Oro and Iligan.

Marañon said the provincial government will use the P500,000 allotted for Negros Oriental to buy rice to be delivered to the Sendong victims.

Bacolod City, through its “Bacolod Cares” project, has raised P1.388 million and a big volume of donations in kind that it will allocate to Dumaguete, Cagayan de Oro and Iligan.

The Silay City Sangguniang Panlungsod yesterday also allotted P100,000 each for Iligan and Cagayan de Oro, Silay Councilor Marijune Castro said.

Silay Mayor Jose Montelibano said they chose to give to Cagayan de Oro and Iligan because of the gravity of the devastation in those areas.

Bago Mayor Ramon Torres said his city is allocating P100,000 for the storm victims.

The Diocese of Bacolod Social Action Center has also raised P100,000 and relief goods, Fr. Aniceto Buenafe said.

The Gawad Kalinga Bacolod is also raising funds for relief assistance, its head Bobby Magalona said.

Bacoleños raise P1.3M
for storm victims
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Bacolod Cares project of the city government has raised P1.388 million as of yesterday, which include the P1.2 million allocation from the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management fund, Bacolod Councilor Em Legaspi-Ang said yesterday.

Ang, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Social Services, yesterday said there is already a big volume of non-cash donations such as water, rice, clothes, blankets, among others, and the biggest donation was from the Fa Tzang Temple that gave 250 boxes of mineral water, 35 sacks of rice, and 1,200 pairs of slippers.

She said they will ship the donated goods through Negros Navigation.

Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said that during the executive-legislative caucus Wednesday, they decided that out of the P1.2 million budget, the city will give P500,000 to Iligan, P500,000 to Cagayan de Oro and P200,000 to Dumaguete.

Ang said they would like to thank all those who responded to their appeal for contributions. The social workers of the city will continue to accept donations at the city’s collection desks at the government center and City Hall, she said.

“I hope, somehow, through this, the typhoon victims will be able to feel the spirit of Christmas inspite of this adversity,” Ang said.

Authored by Councilor El Cid Familiaran, the resolution said the previous and recent calamities that had struck the country had damaged government critical infrastructure projects, agricultural and fisheries production and resulted in loss of livelihood, many lives and wastage of billions of pesos.

The SP also approved another resolution expressing profound sympathy to the people of Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City, Negros Oriental and other cities and provinces who suffered as a consequence of the disaster brought by tropical storm Sendong on December 17, 2011.

The resolution authored by Ang said Tropical Storm Sendong ravaged Mindanao, slamming it with devastating rains and unleashing flash floods and landslides that have left a horrifying trail of destruction.

Media reports said the death toll has reached 653 (1,026, as of Wednesday – ED), there are 245 injured and 807 reported missing. The cities of Cagayan de Oro with 346 deaths and Iligan with 206 deaths were worst hit by Sendong on Friday and Saturday, it said.

The national and local government officials of the affected local government units are appealing for immediate cash assistance, food, non-food items, services and prayers for the residents in the cities and provinces affected by Typhoon Sendong, the resolution also said.*CGS

CENECO energizes 2nd Bago substation

Their franchise area is serving 144,000 consumers from Bacolod City, Silay City, Murcia, Don Salvador Benedicto, and Bago City, he added.*LTG

the tropical wave at the Philippine Sea east of Davao Oriental is rapidly having deep convection and might be transforming into a low pressure area (LPA) ....please stay tuned and be alert. Expect heavy rains especially over the recently flood-hit areas. All communities in rivers, steep slopes and river valleys are reminded to be vigilant.

if i only knew then i would opted to dropped by at Robs since we came from BATA area, one thing i don't like to esp rush hours is the difficulty of locating a vacant parking area kay mostly occupied gid, all you have to do is to park beside and wait for someboday to evaporate first... very discouraging gid despite the fact that the place itself is quite calling out my name for a check attendance, gani much better na lang to commute esp., if you're alone man lang tipid na relax pa :nuts::ohno: :cheers::cheers:

kc balak ko mag transfer ng Dump Truck from Puerto Princessa to CDO. and the only way out is thru sea transportation. Puearto Princesa to Iloilo then Iloilo to Bacolod then Bacolod to Iligan (by vessel) then land transpo from Iligan to CDO

@boymascuvado... where are you?

migs, From iloilo, you need to travel to dumangas to take the RORO going to Bacolod....Dumangas-Bacolod route at present has 4 – Tristar-Megalink, Millenium, Montenegro and Jomalia Shipping. Dont know the rate though

Hi, i believe meron..from dumangas port to bacolod may barge dyan to carry your car/truck..then there is also the usual fastcraft transpo- supercat, oceanjet, weesam from iloilo to bacolod and vice versa. Mga isang oras na travel yan pero if you will take a barge mga 3-4 hours na travel depende sa panahon. Now, I was thinking about Bacolod to Iligan, siguro you can take the NN or superferry or di kaya dun sa iloilo na lang.

Guys, bacolod forumers, any detailed info?

hello guys. greetings from CDO, may tanong lang ako. hope someone could answer me. how long does it take to travel from ILOILO to BACOLOD? aside sa land travel? does it require traveling by sea like sa barge? if yes. what company/vessel will cater such services and will they also cater automobile transfer aside sa tao? hope someone could answer me. thanks in advance guys

kc balak ko mag transfer ng Dump Truck from Puerto Princessa to CDO. and the only way out is thru sea transportation. Puearto Princesa to Iloilo then Iloilo to Bacolod then Bacolod to Iligan (by vessel) then land transpo from Iligan to CDO

Passenger travel with carry-on baggage could be facilitated by fastcrafts that would take you around 50 minutes to 1 hour and 10 mins ILOILO-BACOLOD. Ferry terminals of Supercat, Ocean Jet, Weesam Express are along Muelle Loney Port near the Iloilo City hall

If dump truck naman ang kargahin mo, you may take the RORO route thru Dumangas. The easiest route will be taking the Iloilo Coastal Road from La, Paz, Iloilo City. That will take you all the way to Naluoyan Port in Dumangas. road signs will direct you. But be wary since some parts of the road are still under renovation. The travel will take you around 30-40 minutes.

from the port you may take Tristar Shipping, Jomalia Shipping, Montenegro Lines and Millenium Shipping. All of these RORO vessels are equipped with a passenger deck but Montenegro and Tristar and Jomalia Shipping are the ones that have big and comfortable passenger decks. The rest are non-aircon decks. The travel would take you around 2 hours to 2 hrs and 30 mins. depending on sea condition and cargo load. The operation of vessels run 24-hours a day

I'm not familiar with the rates but Dumangas is a government port so, I think the rates are considerable. Bacolod (BREDCO) Port is operated privately so you still need to pay a fee upon docking.:ohno:

Bacolod to Iligan?...I think Superferry does that. And the ship docks near the RORO port too. So you wont have a hard time.

The traditional route kasi is Bacolod-Dumaguete then Dumaguete to Dapitan then Dapitan to CDO. Pero damaged pa rin kasi ang ibang bridges papuntang Dumaguete so maybe from Bacolod you may take the NEGROS NAVIGATION direct Bacolod-Cagayan de Oro, or SUPERFERRY na Bacolod-Iligan/Ozamiz-CDO-Nasipit route :):):)

ILOILO-Cagayan de Oro direct thru Superferry or Negros Navigation is also an option for you. The Iloilo Port is at San Pedro just at the edge of Hughes St. and San Pedro Drive
